One hint. A 13/16 socket might replace a 22mm socket, and I just checked that it fits on this vehicle. A 7/8 definitely will. My oddball 12 volt impact driver set came with a 13/16 impact socket. Otherwise, I have put away (just recently) all of my SAE (inch) tool except for the square drives (1/4 & 3/8). Generally, with the larger sizes, there are always adequate equivalents between metric and SAE, if you have your old tools. Smaller sizes, generally not. But 8mm and 5/16 are equivalent. If you have a collection of SAE tools, what is most important to get is smaller size combination wrenches, sockets and allen wrenches. You can spend a lot or a little on these. If you do work only rarely, the stuff from that national discount tool chain will be adequate. If you intend to do a lot of work, you might need the better stuff. This video was very helpful for me and I was able to replace mine with very little help. I found that an impact driver was very helpful and probably cut my work time in half.
Did my front struts on my 2001 Toyota Camry. This was pain because the sway bar bolts was rusty! A 2 hour job turned into a 6 hour. I ended up cutting the sway bar off and purchasing a new pair.
I did this on my 1997 camry when it was still alive. I was wondering how different this was for a 2001, and it doesn't seem so different. Mind as well bulk it and replace the tie rod ends, and the boots on the steering rack, AND go get a well needed alignment. I don't even bother with the inner tie rods.
Does procedure knock the camber adjustment out of alignment any on this car? I've seen some videos that indicate the need to install new "camber bolts" after installing new struts on "some cars". Thanks!
Hey 1A Auto. Do you happen to remember what size (in inches) your vise grip is? I need to buy a smaller pair so the jaw will actually fit on the sway bar. Thank you :)
+Estes Lakes Usually, you would be able to drive to get an alignment after the parts are installed. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Do you know if coilovers would provide more body height for a 99 Camry 2.2L? I have a steep angle at the end of my driveway that even with new strut assemblies all around, it still scrapes the bottom of my car slightly, so I just need an extra 1/4" of body height.

May be a dumb question for some but I'm a first timer in replacing struts....question is when doing the struts...when knowing left or right..do you go by standing in front of the car as left or right...or do you go by sitting in the car?
@@1AAuto thanks for response...I have one more question to ask....ive put on my struts but the only thing is the rear brakeline wont reach back into the groove of the new strut for screwing in...and im afraid if I force it that it will break....my question is does the brake line have the ability to stretch and extend without it breaking so I can screw it in with the 12mm?
I'm thinking of doing this on my Camry eventually, I just did it on my 2008 Lexus ES350 (Toyota Camry based). I'm surprised at the suspension similarities, it pretty much looks like the exact procedure on the Lexus ☺️
I have a question. After one of my friend replaced timing belt on my 1996 Toyota Celica, the steering wheel can't easily turn like before. So I didn't drive it for about a year. Now it's harder to turn. Do you have any idea what cause this problem? How to fix iit? Any video somewhere I can check it out.
+DejLiab DejNtsuab Those symptoms could be caused by numerous things. We recommend you get the vehicle looked at by a reputable mechanic if you cannot diagnose the issue yourself.
when putting the new sway bar link on and you notice the sway bar is LONGER where it attaches on the STRUT and it doesnt align into the hole in the strut what can you do in that situation to cover the extra space to align the link with the strut. do you push the wheel hub towards the ground?
+Keep It Cryptid You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your vehicle. Here is a link to the replacement shocks and struts that we carry for your application. goo.gl/6MgUHX
I wanted to ask i need new shocks for my toyota celica gts 2003 but i notice would i need new strut mounts and springs or just the shocks themselves because i checked out the kit yall have the 4 piece for front and back shocks and struts but they dont come with the mounts and springs and it says it will fail sometimes because of manufactured?

Would the torque settings (59 ft/lbs, 156 ft/lbs, and 29 ft/lbs respectively) be different for a 2000 Solara with a V6? Everything else appears identical, mechanically.
In my case the end links were oem toyotas and did not have. Nut type rear for a visegrip to properly clamp on. Please give a warning to dyi people that have lower mileage camrys with original struts and / or oem style parts that have possibly seized
Hello, I replaced the first front strut. Great parts and video, but newbie me messed something up. Bolts were tough, was tough to install the new strut(lining up bolts etc), both my issues. However once I got it on the car makes skreetching noises when put into drive or reverse and will not engage wheel. Anyone out there know what I broke? Which video should I watch next to trouble shoot it?
Couldn’t get the bolts off that hold the Strut and spindle together had to soak it and get a different breaker bar that worked but problem was once you take the link off and the strut drops you gone catch hell getting it back on so make sure you have a good breaker bar to get the spindle nuts off
I got my front struts in with no issue, but now I'm hearing banging noises when I hit bumps from my front driver's side wheel. I didn't torque the bolts to spec too meticulously, could this be the issue?
+James Blansett Yes, those are snow tires. With these light cars up here in New England it is really nice to have a set! If anybody is interested in purchasing these struts please click the link: www.1aauto.com/toyota-camry-solara-strut-monroe-171678/i/mnsts00019?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&UG0vuPM
Great video! But just a word of warning about the stabilizer bar link - often it will not come off so easily and you will have to cut it off. So you might want to have extra links on hand in that event. This is usually the case in places where there is a lot of road salt that caused corrosion.
Their Video’s are great their struts are horrible. To begin with the car sits 3-5 inches higher. Everyone but the A1Auto teams sees the issue. After 6 months of driving with rattling squeaking. They told me sorry see no issues. I’ve sent videos pictures audio noises when driving the car. I will need to ship back the parts at my cost. Use their video but be weary of using their parts.
It could be a number of things. Check the lower ball joint, the sway bar link, the lower control arm, the control arm bushing, and the inner/outer tire rod. It sounds like a lot, but it can be done in a few minutes. Just use a pry bar and make sure the rubber boots on the ball joints are not cracked.
hello I've got a 99 camry that has had suspension noises since i've gotten it, they're most notable on brick roads since they're so bumpy it sounds like metal on metal (it happens when going straight and turning, doesnt matter) and when going over large bumps the car throws me around quite a bit and the steering somewhat disappears for a split second, I changed the rear sway bar bushings and that dampened it some, when i jack the car nothing seems to be loose using the age old tug on various components test, ive tried every component related to suspension front and back none seem to be loose or banging around, the previous owner told me the car would need struts, hes no mechanic but he 'knows his cars', so, I already purchased rear struts and got the new one in the drivers side and soon will come the passenger side, from what i've listed has anyone got a best bet? (Also no play in the front or back wheels when tugged at 6 and 12 or 3 and 9) Thanks!

@1a when I do rear struts I don’t tighten the nuts in the mount until I lower the car
Why is it different for the front ?
These videos could be improved by eliminating the crappy background music. Otherwise, great!
May be a dumb question for some but I'm a first timer in replacing struts....question is when doing the struts...when knowing left or right..do you go by standing in front of the car as left or right...or do you go by sitting in the car?
+jay dee Thanks for checking us out! Left and right would be determined by the view while you are sitting in the vehicle. Hope this helps you out!
9:23 the noise mean the screw is firm enough?
Yeah it's a torque wrench.
Yes, he's using a click type torque wrench which clicks loudly when you reach the correct tightness
I would say check the power steering and power steering pump, it might need some fluids
when putting the new sway bar link on and you notice the sway bar is LONGER where it attaches on the STRUT and it doesnt align into the hole in the strut what can you do in that situation to cover the extra space to align the link with the strut. do you push the wheel hub towards the ground?
Would the process be similar for a 1994 Toyota Camry V6 XLE?
+Keep It Cryptid You may be able to apply some of the basic steps shown in this video to your vehicle. Here is a link to the replacement shocks and struts that we carry for your application. goo.gl/6MgUHX
I wanted to ask i need new shocks for my toyota celica gts 2003 but i notice would i need new strut mounts and springs or just the shocks themselves because i checked out the kit yall have the 4 piece for front and back shocks and struts but they dont come with the mounts and springs and it says it will fail sometimes because of manufactured?
If yall could give me more info that will really help
+Larry Lopez Thanks for watching! Yes, we do carry a set of 4 struts cartridges for your 2003 Celica, but you will have to purchase new upper mounts separately. We carry them, so if you want to give us call one of our representatives can help get a shopping cart together for you! 888-844-3393 - 1aauto.com

In order to replace the front Struts, do I need to lift all four side of the car. Can I only lift the front tire where I am changing the Struts and leave other three tire on the ground. Thank you.
You should be able to do one side at a time. Hope this helps out. 1aauto.com
Is it the same for the rear?
What size are the bolts that have the 22mm nuts?
+cjohns024 It would be the bottom strut bolts. If any of our viewers needs to replace their struts we carry the ones shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to them. goo.gl/ZfA2RV
i have a question im replacing the front struts on a 99 toyota camry people are telling me i need to take them to a machine shop i was wondering if that is necesary or can i get by with a spring compressor
+Daniel Concepcion You can rent a spring compressor. We carry the loaded struts shown in this video on our website. Here is a link to them goo.gl/e9bxjg
+James McDonnell You may need to take it out and re-clock the strut aligning it. Thanks for watching.
1A Auto Parts I replaced the cv axle and it worked, thanks for the videos
+James McDonnell Thanks for checking us out!
Is the 07 Toyota Camry done the same way ?
+ron sylvia The steps may be similar, however, we have a video for that application at this link: ua-cam.com/video/wLUDRfXic8A/v-deo.html

You NEED to torque the wheel nuts to spec
What does it mean when I did this to my friends car but when I beep the horn the hood opens now
Those tires are for snow right? def. not normal street tires
+James Blansett Yes, those are snow tires. With these light cars up here in New England it is really nice to have a set! If anybody is interested in purchasing these struts please click the link: www.1aauto.com/toyota-camry-solara-strut-monroe-171678/i/mnsts00019?UA-cam&CTA+Comment&UG0vuPM

anything different with V6 model ?
Thanks for checking us out! No, the procedure should be the same for both the 4 Cylinder and V6. Hope this helps you out! +daniel cote
What size torque wrench do I need for this
is it the same for a 1995 Toyota Avalon. ??
Nice video 👍👍👍
my stablizer bar remained in tension? Had to pry it down to release and reinstall
how much would i save if I do it vs one of my car friend do it for $700?
Fantastic explanation.Thanks
We're glad the video helped you out. Thanks for watching. 1aauto.com?UA-cam&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
Great video! But just a word of warning about the stabilizer bar link - often it will not come off so easily and you will have to cut it off. So you might want to have extra links on hand in that event. This is usually the case in places where there is a lot of road salt that caused corrosion.
+Michael Sakowski Thanks for the feedback!
Great work.
+Donnie Gill Thanks for checking us out! 1AAuto.com

I have a 99 Toyota Camry if my tire hits a pothole it sounds like loose change in a metal cup is that part of the same thing as this video
Does the spring need to be changed as well? I bought the shock but it came with no spring from orielys. Appreciate the help I can get.
+Erik Nieto You would either need to purchase a new spring or reuse the spring from the old strut. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Great job appreciate it thank you so much
+Wayne Taber Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
great video, thanks for the help.
disapointing. how do you switch the springs???
why do you have to use four jackstands like that? I don't understand why you can't just do one on the corner you're replacing.
hello I've got a 99 camry that has had suspension noises since
i've gotten it, they're most notable on brick roads since they're so
bumpy it sounds like metal on metal (it happens when going straight and
turning, doesnt matter) and when going over large bumps the car throws
me around quite a bit and the steering somewhat disappears for a split
second, I changed the rear sway bar bushings and that dampened it some,
when i jack the car nothing seems to be loose using the age old tug on
various components test, ive tried every component related to suspension
front and back none seem to be loose or banging around, the previous
owner told me the car would need struts, hes no mechanic but he 'knows
his cars', so, I already purchased rear struts and got the new one in
the drivers side and soon will come the passenger side, from what i've
listed has anyone got a best bet? (Also no play in the front or back
wheels when tugged at 6 and 12 or 3 and 9) Thanks!
+Sam Lyons Thank you for checking us out. The struts are the more common solution to what you are explaining. 1aauto.com
