I really wish you could get the rs5 with the s5 seats. Diamond stitching is so much sexier then that ugly ass honeycomb stitching and I want all red leather seats not black with red stitching. I really want the rs5 but the seats are. Big deal breaker for me. Seriously making me contemplate an S5 with a tune instead but then I won’t have the twin turbo setup ugh. If only you could get the s5 seats in the rs5 then it would be perfect
I have an S5 and, given the choice again, I would still opt for the S5 over the RS5. Primarily because the significant difference in price is simply not justified by the spec differences between the cars. I also feel that the S5 is an easier car to live with day to day, being a bit less hardcore. That said, my S5 on 20 inch rims and 30 series tyres corners like a bloody go-kart. The engine specs may be important if you are playing Top Trumps or for bragging rights at the bar, but in the real world the S5, with 354bhp, is a very quick car in its own right. The additional 100bph of the RS5 is almost unusable except on a race track. Any car boasting 300bhp+ combined with all wheel drive is going to be a very fast road car. I think back to my teens in the 80s and recall that even the most exotic of then supercars boasted,. maybe, 300bhp. Today we pack vastly more power in a 2+2 coupe and debate if we need 650 + instead!
That is very well said, i remember my parents saved for years and bought a BMW 535i back in 1990 with 235hp and at that time it was huge power! The M5 had 300hp i believe. Its amazing how far we have come. Thanks for your comment!

I have similar opinions, although RS is just cool on its own, the S5 could easily be at where the Rs is with some simple modifications, and 354 is way more than enough for me as a daily. Once we are talking RS5 money, there are way more options other than the RS5, in other words, "temptations"(C63, M4, Porsche and etc) . The S5 is such a good package with good value, it isn't as fancy or as hardcore as Mercedes and BMW, but it gives you everything you need. However, I must admit, knowing that S5 s got a big brother on the road now, it does make me feel less superior :P (comparing to the time when RS5 hasn't been delivered to its owners lol).

I owned S5...now an RS5. The RS5 is light years better. S5 was sloppy and slow compared to the RS5. You need to own an RS5 and then go back to an S5 to understand
Just picked up my S5 Sportback and honestly I don't think the RS5 was worth waiting for. Audi styling has always been pretty conservative so the differences between S and RS models at least visually have been minimal, and in this generation the only real difference is an extra turbo. Plus IMO the S exhaust actually sounds better than the RS tone.
I installed an ABT piggyback, K&N air performance filter, awe downpipes and honeycomb rs grill. It now has about 470hp and waiting on awe track edition exhaust to be delivered and installed soon. I firmly believe that it does 0-60 in about 3.5/3.8 seconds as of now.

Can't decide. I own an old shape S5 now and I love it. The new S5 looks like an A5, and looks worse than the old models. I would get the S5. It's not the performance, it's the styling. They corrected it on the 2020 S5. Looks amazing now, but the 2017 S5 looks like a company rep car. Would have to enhance it with black grill and other bits. Don't want to go too far with that, pretending it's an RS5 is not cool
Nice video. I have same difficulty to choose between these 2. I just tried RS5 this afternoon but feel backseat doesn’t have enough height. S5 is already good enough on day to day city driving. I’m asking myself how often I can use that extra speed and power that RS5 produce? So if we consider RS5 is a PGA golfer level, then S5 is about 3-5 handicap excellent golfer. Great enough for daily drive. I’m driving BMW more often, so maybe consider BMW 540i. But S5 and RS5 are still attractive , the power, performance and stylish looking. BMW 540i is very comfortable.
now if only i can find out how to turn on the seat ventilation / cooling. I drive manual shift porsches for 17 years, basic rides. The S5 is overwhelming in its array of features.
totally can, on the 2018 S5 it is to the left underneath the heated seats button, on the left lower side of of the aluminum HVAC control that displays the interior temp. There is the exact same thing on the passenger side of the HVAC controls
I couldn't figure it out, so i called Beverly Hills Audi. The Audi guru who sold me the car, Farhad Douroudian, had the answer. The seat ventilation doesn't come with the napa leather seats on the Prestige S5's like mine. Kudos to him: Farhad knows EVERYTHING about Audis. He is THE man here in LA.
I love my new S5 coupe. For the price point, it’s great, but for the RS5 pricepoint, I feel there are other things I would look at instead. For my area, I rarely see if any other new S5’s (saw one black one 2 months ago), so it surely stands out. I also think having it in white makes it pop, I’m not a fan of that dark gray, though I love the Nardo gray. Also, oddly enough when he revved the S5, you didn’t hear any popping. Typically when the car is fully warmed up however, you do get some nice popping from the exhaust like you heard on the RS5. Overall though, I think Audi should have implemented a better stock exhaust for both. I’ve seen some videos with aftermarket exhausts and they sound great.
Yes, that is true..it was freezing that day and couldnt get the temps past 75 as opposed to the normal 90 degrees. The S5 does pop under load, thats for sure.
Here's what you should do... buy an S5, tune it to the same or more hp as the RS5 ($1,000), swap the grill to an RS one, get carbon splitters, side skirts, rear diffuser, etc, ($1,500-2,000). Bang, a car that's exactly the same as the RS5 for 10-25 grand less.
I have the S5 ABT 425 PS as a daylie car and a Jaguar Ftype as my fun car. As a every day car is the S5 more then good. I mean it gives you a lot of sport and conformtability. On some sort i would say, the S5 gives you mutch more for the money instead of the rs5.
My Tuned S5 Sportback makes same power as RS5 and saves me $15k. No brainer. The RS5 extras can't even be utilized on normal streets. I also prefer the quad exhaust tips over the 2 oval tips.
Agreed! it all depends on situations, but the S5 is a great all around car that you can leave in a public space overnight. The RS5, i would be worried.. The Rs5 is designed to be more exclusive, and it does exactly that.
If the s5 had black optic and nardo the diff in looks wouldn't be as drastic. Overall I still like the looks of rs5 more but I gotta say I used to be a big fan of rs/honeycomb grill but these days I kinda starting to like the straight s5 grill more (when it's not chrome...)
Honestly I’d rather take the RS3 over an S5. Probably similar money but you still get that exclusivity and a mean sounding 5 cylinder. I just wish they’d bring us North Americans the Sportbacks!

Im sure that will come, RS5 have limited numbers in Canada. So selection will be scarce in terms of lots of choices. As the S5 gets older, its going to get more fun pieces...to keep it more relevant.

This is exactly the issue I have right now! I have a 17 daytona grey S5 with every possible optional extra (ex-demo). I just test drove an identical 68 nardo grey RS5 to the one in the video (except right hand drive obs). Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic car, but it will cost me £38k to upgrade. I'm struggling to justify it for what is essentially going to be a car with power I can't realistically use versus a car that is to all intents and purposes almost as fast BUT can also pretty much drive and park itself if needs be. Can anyone convince me otherwise?
The difference between the rs5 and s5 from the 2017 models and up are minimal. In fact I absolutely hate the new design of the A5 range. They've taken a classic German look and turned it into a fancy looking Korean car. The 2016 s5s and before had that muscular yet classy German class which has unfortunately gone away from these models

The b8.5 is a sweet ride, and it is more "timeless" than a new one for sure. They are probably trying to get you into one because they can use loyalty rates..and can only go back 6 years..2012? maybe..who knows..
could be I think its because I got low kms but if I was to trade I would get a older rs7 or the new rs3 really like those and the fact you can get those to 670 awhp with a big turbo setup is very tempting
the b9 s5 sportback is so nice and the interior shits all over the b8.5's. I will say the b8's have a way cleaner look, but thats were it stops. Just because the look is timeless doesnt mean its better. The current one looks amazing and has more power+a new world interior.
well once they have the black optics option for s5 itll look nearly as good, once all the chrome is gone....dont think the price difference justifies the power difference
yes, that should be here very soon, possibly end of current model year. They usually add a "special" package such as an "exclusive" or "competition" pack to the S models. However since they added Nano grey to an A4 Comp. pack, they may leave it for 2019. There is a lot of value in an S5.
Or you can get the chrome wrapped. I’m doing that to my 2018 S5 in matte black. Doing a paint wrap in 3M. They can even wrap the grille...which is my least favorite part of the car. Other than that, super happy with my baby.
i agree, just a little cheaper if it was offered as a packag instead of getting the grill, side mirrors, side badge, emblems, rear diffuser, and rear decklip done in black at a 3rd party place
Those Audi fans who cream over nardo gray are kind of stupid. Do you realize you’re paying 3400 bucks extra for a color that basically based on a primer? And as for s5 vs rs5? S5 with a chip tuning will push you up to 430bhp easy
Thanks for your email, Nardo grey in Canada is not a $3400 charge... that charge is on specialty individual colours like purple, green etc. Nardo is actually free! However it is “shiny” primer lol
I LOVE the appearance of the RS5, but the engine is a deal BREAKER for me as it is for millions of others. It's sad that Audi got it wrong with the 2.9 V6. This car will be a FLOP. RIP RS5
what motor did you want in there? hopefully one day you can get a 4.0L in there..if they could fit a 4.2 they can fit a 4.0L There must be somthing there with the displacement tax in some countries.
At the very least drop the S7 motor in there. The price wouldn't change much. If you matched the RS7, I understand this would top $100K and make it unreasonable. I think a twin turbo 4.0 V8 with a 7 speed dual clutch or ZF8 transmission would keep pace with the BMW M4 sales.

I recently picked up a mint 2015 rs5 for about 15k less than the price of a new s5. Let the dummys take the hard depreciation hit in the first 2 to 3 years than pull the trigger. Plus I would never buy that v6 over the beautiful sounding 4.2 lt v8 is my rs5, and in my opinion my 15' is just better looking. But to each there own
Prices have also gone up, the 2015s pretty loaded were upper 80's (CAD) and the 2018 RS5's are low 100's. So i think at this point, anyone that bought it new back in 2015 or yourself buying its say for 30-35% for mid 50's...both win IMO. That V8 does sound badass for sure and the design in Blue or White looks sick! I will say that the sound of the V6 actually is tuned to sound better than the V8 S5's. I found them too quiet as you go through the range, at idle its throaty...your's sounds good throughout as its tuned different. Enjoy your car!
That's exactly what i drive, Ara blue with Black optics, carbon trim, red brakes, sport exhaust (which is basically just black) and 19' Anthracite wheels. Tbh Audi RS5 is not worth the price compared to Mercedes AMG or BMW M4 series. At least externally it doesn't look that appealing as these cars except for Audi TT. Even Audi TT design looks faded these days.

Has anyone had the s5 and rs5 on a dyno yet to see if audi have under estimated the hp as usual.. with the ttrs most of them seem to pull over 400 bhp easily
The 5 Cyl are in low production cars, and that motor is a monster! The EPA just sent up a posting reducing the HP by 6HP so i dont think these go over posted ratings..
TTRS would beat it by just over a car lenght. The Rs3 and Rs5 would be tight. Thats why they dont make a V8 R8 anymore because these cars would be faster!

Great looking cars. Like RS5's Nardo Gray. Not sure about wheels. Wish Black Pack RS5 and Sport Pack S5 had straight spoke wheels at same price/size.
Im sure that will come, RS5 have limited numbers in Canada. So selection will be scarce in terms of lots of choices. As the S5 gets older, its going to get more fun pieces...to keep it more relevant.
Are the cars brand new? I didn’t see “demo” showing there lol. I don’t think the buyers from the future will be happy to see someone rev the “new” car at the dealership

This is exactly the issue I have right now! I have a 17 daytona grey S5 with every possible optional extra (ex-demo). I just test drove an identical 68 nardo grey RS5 to the one in the video (except right hand drive obs). Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic car, but it will cost me £38k to upgrade.
I'm struggling to justify it for what is essentially going to be a car with power I can't realistically use versus a car that is to all intents and purposes almost as fast BUT can also pretty much drive and park itself if needs be.
Can anyone convince me otherwise?

The difference between the rs5 and s5 from the 2017 models and up are minimal. In fact I absolutely hate the new design of the A5 range. They've taken a classic German look and turned it into a fancy looking Korean car. The 2016 s5s and before had that muscular yet classy German class which has unfortunately gone away from these models

personally I would keep my b8.5 s5. that look is timeless to me and shits all over the new b9s imo, tho audi been trying to convince me to trade in for a new one.
The b8.5 is a sweet ride, and it is more "timeless" than a new one for sure. They are probably trying to get you into one because they can use loyalty rates..and can only go back 6 years..2012? maybe..who knows..
could be I think its because I got low kms but if I was to trade I would get a older rs7 or the new rs3 really like those and the fact you can get those to 670 awhp with a big turbo setup is very tempting
TTRS Modded are a tough daily, your car is alwasy be classy...and it works for all stages of life.
the b9 s5 sportback is so nice and the interior shits all over the b8.5's.
I will say the b8's have a way cleaner look, but thats were it stops. Just because the look is timeless doesnt mean its better. The current one looks amazing and has more power+a new world interior.
I have deep pockets and I bought the S5 - i just would have liked the alcantara steering wheel - but i'm not paying $30k for that

yes, that should be here very soon, possibly end of current model year. They usually add a "special" package such as an "exclusive" or "competition" pack to the S models. However since they added Nano grey to an A4 Comp. pack, they may leave it for 2019. There is a lot of value in an S5.
Or you can get the chrome wrapped. I’m doing that to my 2018 S5 in matte black. Doing a paint wrap in 3M. They can even wrap the grille...which is my least favorite part of the car. Other than that, super happy with my baby.
i agree, just a little cheaper if it was offered as a packag instead of getting the grill, side mirrors, side badge, emblems, rear diffuser, and rear decklip done in black at a 3rd party place

And as for s5 vs rs5? S5 with a chip tuning will push you up to 430bhp easy

I LOVE the appearance of the RS5, but the engine is a deal BREAKER for me as it is for millions of others. It's sad that Audi got it wrong with the 2.9 V6. This car will be a FLOP. RIP RS5
what motor did you want in there? hopefully one day you can get a 4.0L in there..if they could fit a 4.2 they can fit a 4.0L
There must be somthing there with the displacement tax in some countries.
At the very least drop the S7 motor in there. The price wouldn't change much. If you matched the RS7, I understand this would top $100K and make it unreasonable. I think a twin turbo 4.0 V8 with a 7 speed dual clutch or ZF8 transmission would keep pace with the BMW M4 sales.

Why does the engine compartment sound like shit when idling? That ticking noise makes it not worth.
I recently picked up a mint 2015 rs5 for about 15k less than the price of a new s5. Let the dummys take the hard depreciation hit in the first 2 to 3 years than pull the trigger. Plus I would never buy that v6 over the beautiful sounding 4.2 lt v8 is my rs5, and in my opinion my 15' is just better looking. But to each there own
Prices have also gone up, the 2015s pretty loaded were upper 80's (CAD) and the 2018 RS5's are low 100's. So i think at this point, anyone that bought it new back in 2015 or yourself buying its say for 30-35% for mid 50's...both win IMO.
That V8 does sound badass for sure and the design in Blue or White looks sick! I will say that the sound of the V6 actually is tuned to sound better than the V8 S5's. I found them too quiet as you go through the range, at idle its throaty...your's sounds good throughout as its tuned different. Enjoy your car!

Tbh Audi RS5 is not worth the price compared to Mercedes AMG or BMW M4 series. At least externally it doesn't look that appealing as these cars except for Audi TT. Even Audi TT design looks faded these days.

I really wish you could get the rs5 with the s5 seats. Diamond stitching is so much sexier then that ugly ass honeycomb stitching and I want all red leather seats not black with red stitching. I really want the rs5 but the seats are. Big deal breaker for me. Seriously making me contemplate an S5 with a tune instead but then I won’t have the twin turbo setup ugh. If only you could get the s5 seats in the rs5 then it would be perfect

Has anyone had the s5 and rs5 on a dyno yet to see if audi have under estimated the hp as usual.. with the ttrs most of them seem to pull over 400 bhp easily
The 5 Cyl are in low production cars, and that motor is a monster! The EPA just sent up a posting reducing the HP by 6HP so i dont think these go over posted ratings..
