I played high stakes on computer and I loved the modes cars I eventually began downloading and integrating into the gameplay. A very special game indeed need for speed high stakes.
for me the last tournament with either using the CLK or McClaren. I tried using the CLK so many times but the handling was off even after upgrades. What won me the tournament was with McClaren with little to no upgrades lol
You can't upgrade the MCLaren F1 GTR or the Mercedes CLK-GTR. Upgrades for them were never implemented into the game (In order to make the last tournament difficult, they did not allow you to upgrade those cars) This means you must have modded the game or had a remodeled newer version, which means it is no longer really NFS High Stakes. It is a REMAKE of NFS High Stakes. Just sayin
hahahah, there ARE the upgraded versions of the F1 and CLK-GTR in game, they are just hidden, probably for the reason uve stated, so you can access them only with external commands (I used psx emulation cheater)
Can you do this in the PC version? I'd like to see my 20-yr-old Pentium 200MMX squeal at this, and my 14-yr-old Pentium 4 take all this incredbile power.
You can do much better things with PC version. thanks to mods you can have hundreds of tracks and thousands of new cars too. And on PC the cars can be upside down after a flip. This apparently isnt possible at this console version lol..
To anybody out there I just got the PS2 specifically so I can play this game and I would love to explore everything without sitting in front of it too long if somebody can help out with like in definitive way of getting all the cash all these modifications and just something where I can punch it in and get it all because I got a baby right now and I kind of want to focus more on my son but when I do play the game I want to have a lot of fun.. yeah so....... help thank you

I think you can upgrade them via GameShark or PSX Cheat emulator
He's using multiple hacks at once. The GT cars couldn't be upgraded.

y ofc, u need to apply the cheat only once and the cars will stay upgraded in your garage and u can use them in any race
