If an artist wants to convey something about God, he or she is free to do so. I am glad popular artists are doing this. We all will stand before the King to give an account of our life. We all sin, but we need to repent and ask His forgiveness. God is who He says he is. Why not be part of the solution? You never know what great things are waiting for you!
I am Dutch and I only discovered this song last year via UA-cam. My parents gave me an album for in the car and then I got curious about more of his music. I love his album getaway from 1982, my birth year. I saw that he is giving a concert in Dortmund in October, but a 2 hour drive for me. Of course it is already sold out...
I live close to his family home. See him sometimes. My dad went to school with him. He was a massive fan and I quickly followed suit. From a young boy to now. His songs bring me back to my youth everytime and times I spent with family.
When I listen to this song very time, it takes me back to my child hood in 80`s and to compere that time by today`s world of chaos and pain. and I wish I could go back to that time once more and never get back here.
+Mohsen Pacdoust , Hello Mohsen, Erik Vanderpoel here in Australia, I so love what you have written from your heart, We , My Margaret & I feel the same, We are the chosen ones in this life, We have been richer than all, Now we all live in fear, May god bless us all

When I ,as a non-English person, heard of this song on a tape ( I was 15 or so) feel his words, sense his words I can tell 1 thing about this song: Simply the best!
The problem with not aging and living way beyond what you should isn't the many people you will know and outlive. It's your initial family that you will forget more and more as time passes, to the point you won't remember anything even what they looked like unless you see a picture.
I grew up with this song (and a handful of other Chris de Burgh's) when I was in high school and early college age. What a great reminder, thanks to CdeB and to you Steve for the upload.
We often wonder why people are so oblivious to Chris de Burgh's amazing talent. Music as amazing as his deafens the ignorant. Simple enough theory. Forever will Chris be my one of my favourite artists and forever will his songs remain in my heart
The last time I cried, I was sitting home, And it was deep in the night, Staring at the shadows and the flickering lights, Giving all that I had, to take them away, Giving all that I had, to make them pay; The last time I cried, I could see the people, Long ago in the rain, Waiting as the soldiers put them all on a train, And the hands on the bars, the eyes full of tears, And the word is the same, for a thousand years, Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me, Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me; The last time I cried, I could not believe it, When I held on a face, Staring at a soldier with his gun in the rain, It was the face of a child, my child here asleep, And the soldier who smiled, the man was me, Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me, Eli Eli Lama, oh why, have you forsaken me? Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me, The last time I cried, the last time I cried, The last time I cried, the last time I cried, The last time I cried, the last time I cried, The last time I cried, the last time I cried, The last time.
Simply brilliant!!!!!! The last time I heard anything new from Chris was around '86. I was a huge fan of the man back in the '70's and early '80's. But WOW!!!! his voice is as crystal, and powerful as it ever was. That is impressive for one of his age. Obviously he hasn't done damage to his vocal instrument, like so many other's from his period. Thanx for the terrific post!!!!!!!!
one of the greatest singers of the modern era he is so genuine...come on Israel get a grip leave the Palestinians alone .. You complained about the Nazis do not be them
Exactly Martyn. Ask anyone to name a song by Chris and they come up with Lady in Red. I have converted many people to liking him by playing Spanish Train and Crusader albums.
Sometimes the answer is NO. We just don't like that answer. I have had the same problem. Then one of the people I pray for replied, "I am in pain, therefore alive, I have trouble at the moment on the business front, I therefore have a job, One of my teenage children is being a bit of a pain at the moment, I therefore have children." I continue to pray to our God through our Lord Jesus.
Jesus and his teaching was not about fighting, on the contrary , it was about peace The only think that you can expect when you declaring war against other relegions is fanaticism, and then another circle of blood begins...
Arion argo What a ... I WROTE first shame .. now I rewrite ...not shame ... I don't know ... I am sorry that we have different opinions ! u are Greek !!! My ancestors were the same !!! Now we think different !!! This is our world now ! S'agapo !!! My grandgrand parents left Greece because of the muslims !!!!!!!!!! This the reason that after 300 years I speak little Greek ! A joke : O MBOUTSOS TROHETE OMOS / DYONISOS SOLOMOS !!! Long LIVE ELLAS ... WHEREVER WE ARE ON THIS PLANET !!!!!!!!!!!!
george hull it doesn't matter if you don't speak greek, as long as you carry the greece inside you! for example, Alexander the Great, did respected the relegions of the terittorires he conquered, he accepted their customs, he even took wife from one of those territories, Roxana, or Aristophanes, one of the greatest satirical writers ever, he was making fun of the people or institutions, and his scripts are still relative to the present. I think that most possibly your grandgrand parents left, because of the Turks, which are muslims, but just to remember to you, Christians has also took over Greece (Byzantium), during the Crusades(4th), which led to the fall of Byzantium, by the Turks.(among other reasons) As for the present(not only), religions(all) are used to manipulate people by those with power and money, just to get more(power and money)... that simple all great religions, and to be more specific, Christianity and Islam, DO NOT accept violence take care and have a nice day, wherever you are!
Great song. Brilliant use of echo. One of the few singers who uses not just the (fabulous) music but also the impact of the words to get over the message. Very probably because he is one of very few singers who sings well enough for the listener to understand him.
Proud owner of Spanish train original LP and life long fan of CDB , seen him live in Belfast kings hall; 1981 ish far as I can remember, still have the ticket stub somewhere 🤔
So good music is still being made who knew? this should be heard on the radio, I miss the days when music with a message and a heart was common. Now its non existent.
When I was a kid I never understood the lyrics. Today as an grown man and reborn Christian I understand the lyrics very well and the rejection of the messiah by the jews and the aftermath of that.

Chris de Burgh was born in Argentina, of Irish descent...so not British.
The first ever English song I remember from memory.... My father had it on a cassette...
This is the first time I, an American, hear this song. It was recommended by a German to a French friend of mine who just told me about it.
I am Dutch and I only discovered this song last year via UA-cam. My parents gave me an album for in the car and then I got curious about more of his music. +Mohsen Pacdoust There was big time chaos in 80's also. Its just we are better connected today. Respect your passion though.
The world was actually more violent in the 80s than it was today, we just didn't hear about what was going on. :/
Nice song I like
BritonDev yup

Of all the about 350 great songs Chris de Burgh has written in the last 50 years this is one of my favourites. Deep meaning and powerful rhythm.
I agree! I think this IS my favourite. The melody and words are just *Chef's Kiss*. You can feel the emotion and urgency ❤
We often wonder why people are so oblivious to Chris de Burgh's amazing talent.

The last time I cried, I was sitting home,
And it was deep in the night,
Staring at the shadows and the flickering lights,
Giving all that I had, to take them away,
Giving all that I had, to make them pay;
The last time I cried, I could see the people,
Long ago in the rain,
Waiting as the soldiers put them all on a train,
And the hands on the bars, the eyes full of tears,
And the word is the same, for a thousand years,
Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me,
Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me;
The last time I cried, I could not believe it,
When I held on a face,
Staring at a soldier with his gun in the rain,
It was the face of a child, my child here asleep,
And the soldier who smiled, the man was me,
Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me,
Eli Eli Lama, oh why, have you forsaken me?
Eli Eli Lama, oh Lord, you have forsaken me,
The last time I cried, the last time I cried,
The last time I cried, the last time I cried,
The last time I cried, the last time I cried,
The last time I cried, the last time I cried,
The last time.

Largely thanks to UA-cam, I am discovering the great music of Chris de Burgh. Awesome writing and delivering.
I love that God has given Chris this beautiful voice. Love from a tuneless woman x
How is here 2024/7
Es por lejos el mejor tema de Chris por su contenido, como su interpretacion.

Salute Chris de Burgh....Best of all time
