I roofed for like 10 years. 3 different places. Not 1 of the owners of these 3 knew to not place nails in keyways. I cannot get over how people cannot find the DO NOT nail zone. And you are correct probably across the whole field area.
Home owners will love this video.
I also agree also about about the double stepping Yeah that area could’ve used it and it might’ve made it a little bit uglier. Unless you trimmed all the metal back a bunch when you double stepped it. But yeah that would’ve really probably kept the water out better also.
    Great video.

Brian - want to thank you so much for these videos. I started watching you a couple of years ago. I didn't need a roof or anything, but I do like to stay knowledgeable since I'm a big DIY guy. Fast forward to 6 weeks ago and I had a huge tree fall on my house. And one place it hit punctured through the OSB because the OSB was rotten! Uh oh. My roof was also 20 years old and it was starting to lose granules. Some of my ridge had no granules left at all, though that was definitely the worst of it. I couldn't see that from the ground though and it's not easy to get up there (12/12, 2 story house). I ended up having my entire roof replaced from the tree incident and I knew exactly what to look for. After the job I did my best to spot inspect nail placement and keyway alignment. Everything looked great so thanks again for spreading this great knowledge.

good job - correct - keyways - joints - water line - mostly around kansas i find the nail too high. one we had to travel fairly far to renail every shingle b/c they were too high (40-5 sq. roof), inspectors or farmer, bossman said go do it, lol. everything else seem alright and yes the shingles shed and do not proof water. i learned w/hand-driving crews, who does that anymore. 66 yrs of age, staring at around 20 got me a lot of experience. well done, sir. i like the dog, just sayin.

You've probably told us this a dozen times, so now I'll ask and pay attention but... If you were going to to put asphalt shingles on your own house tomorrow, what brand and style would you use?

@@GrandRoofingInc Is that partly because of their sure nail technology?
Would you do a video on those shingles?

Can you use “208R Rubberized Wet Patch Black Roof Leak Repair Sealant” to seal the nail?
