He probably means because of Linkin Park's fanbase including literally everyone and their parents. Musically, Poppy does positively crush LP at this point.
If it was just based on the music, I can see your point but considering the context of Linkin Park's return and history. On a societal level, LP is a part of the cultural zeitgeist, and once you're at that level, it's just so much bigger than the music. LP dropping a solid album in this context, makes it pretty hard to overshadow. That being said, I think Poppy dropped a really great album and I am thoroughly enjoying it. With all respect to the Linkin Park new album, cause it's also great and surprisingly fresh and not just the nu metal nostalgia thing, but the Poppy album is a masterpiece because with all the ambitious experimentation (in 2024 predictable) that she's done an all her work before, she managed to make a record that is actually the opposite of the wild experimentation, but at the same time still experimental in the modern metalcore realm. And maybe she doesn't want to be "wierd" anymore (at least with her music). She's going to be 30 in January. Maybe she feels it's time to mature? I do agree with nik, some more technical instrumentation would have been welcome. Stevis is a great Djenty rhythm guitarist (and a solid lyricist), but poppy's prior collaborator, Chris Greatti is a fucking beast on guitar. Alas, he's Titanic Sinclair's buddy. So yeah I agree.
