The Center's Falling Out is the release single, actually, but I have the exact same favorites, I'll include Halo, and Negative Spaces the song is so satisfyingly grunge meets emo!!!
This and I Disagree are by far her best work. Not to discredit her other albums; they did their thing, but they just don’t compare to those two. Her Eat EP is also worth checking out, it’s entirely self produced and her heaviest work prior to Negative Spaces.
33:00 you're thinking of "Celebrity Skin" from Hole! Thats the first thing I heard when I listed to Negative Spaces! Also - "Nothing" is giving straight "Everybody's Fool" from Evanescence! Glad to see so many inspirations within this album.
I think this surpassed I disagree it’s literally so good I’ve been listening to it on loop over and over and over especially surviving on defiance and the centers falling out those two songs go so hard I relate so hard to surviving on defiance it’s soooo gooooodddd man I couldn’t be happier I can’t stop listening
Discovered your channel and loved this album, for me album of the year and best artwork from Poppy. All her albums are good and have a direction. This is a 10/10.
I Disagree (more) is perfect for a reaction! you should check it out. although i gotta say "Flux" is probably my personal favorite, it has this 80s shoegaze/alt-rock/grunge vibe which i find so addictive!
My only critiques of the album are that choruses are muddy on her vocals and structures of singles seem simplified by he specifically. Many have impressions of that kind of Ali Payami with Zig. I'm excited for what her next producer will bring to her horizon.
32:48 I’m getting Wake Me Up When September Ends - Green Day. You can literally sing it right on top of the chorus. This album is great but your analysis is what really made it shine for me! This is my new favorite way to discover albums, can’t wait for your top 15 of 2024
I love your Poppy reactions! I hope you do a deep dive and react to all of her albums. She is a really interesting artist, even her pop. One recommendation for listening to I Disagree, listen to the original 10-song album on its own, then the deluxe (more) songs as an EP. It's just too perfect an album on its own. Negative Spaces is my very favorite though. So satisfying.
It's a sin that Zig was overlooked, because even if it isn't the cohesive album which most want it to be, Church Outfit, Motorbike, or Hard are outstanding enough to have been nominated.
@@facundsrodrixxx, it can be argued that a few of the nominees in the Pop categories aren't new, and Poppy did it better in a genre which doesn't prioritise lyrics.
I agree with the title this album literally is PERFECT💜 I think this is her best work, however "Zig" was also a no skip album for me even though it's more pop. Her previous albums I really like too but for me they're not as flawless as "Negative spaces" and "Zig" And I took a day off work yesterday just to listen to this and new LP album☠️
I loved this reaction! Halo is in my top 5 favorite Poppy songs. Possibly top 3. and i love how you were saying the album felt nostalgic and 2010s style bc that’s EXACTLY what i was thinking
Personally Negative Spaces is def poppy best album ever. I remember listening to it for the first time and Halo made me cry and i just sat there crying for like a good minute lol 💀. But yeah i really like the album and Halo is a great ending track it's a track that really makes you look back on how far you've come!!
I'd cried five times through the album. Yesterday, Vital, Surviving On Defiance, Tomorrow, and Halo all hit so emotionally, and a few of my favorite Poppy songs are Sick of the Sun, Flux, Hard Feelings, Her, EAT, Stagger, Altar, and Don't Ask, which are all deeply personal songs. It's beautiful how she's pulled back on her improbably poppy blonde Illuminati android persona and is giving us a lot of Moriah and allowing us to really understand her. She'd said in her BUILD interview that it's what she writes music for, and she's really doing it, now. I love Flux and Negative Spaces so much, more than I Disagree, which is Titanic-involved enough to not be as authentic to her as it could be, and what she's doing with her songwriting now is so genuinely breathtaking. I hope that this becomes the hit album which it seems to be, because so many people could relate with it and learn from it and feel less alone, which is everything Poppy could ever hope for short of doing it for everyone in the world.
I'm also really down with Everybody Wants to Be Poppy, Let's Make A Video, Aristocrat, Chic Chick, 3.14, and Motorbike, so sonically, this is the best of both sides of her in many ways. She'd really thought out this album, as much input as Jordan and Stevis seem to have. She's about to be the top of the ladder in alternative, with any justice in the world.
"surviving on defiance" is my favourite. Reminds me of like "blessthefall/Lights - Open Water" and "Get Scared - The Blackout" mixed with some Spiritbox.
You'd probably really like zig. It's lowkey my most listened to album of hers and the first I bought on vinyl. People were frustrated that she went back to pop and never gave it a chance. The writing, the lyrics, the vibe, all top tier. Just like this one.
i love Poppy so much!!! ive been watching her and a fan since the bubblebath days and seeing her grow has been so fun!!! last year i was 0.0005 of her top listeners… 😅🤍🖤 love ya Poppy
While many are saying it’s Poppy’s best work so far, for fans it’s often a constant battle what people consider their favorites lol. I know I Disagree and Flux is up there for peoples’ favorite. I also know many said for this one “really good! Probably best sounding work, but I Disagree is still my favorite!” So yeah I think her other works are good to look into, you might find a different favorite- if not it’s just fun to listen to her experiment and play with sounds. :)

It's the combination of the reverb saturation and low vocal mix, for me. The pitch correction is lovely, though not as much over what could be a clearer sound which makes it easier to distinguish lyrics. J Fish is in his own mode, rather than Poppy's.
As other people said, I Disagree, Flux, and the Eat EP are probably the best releases to check out by her next. Zig was a dark industrial pop kinda experimental thing. A vibe but you gotta be the in mood for it.
This is by far her most true heavy album, but her other albums are good too and they give all kinds of different sounds. She also has a cover of Spit! and All The Things She Said If you haven’t heard those

Negative Spaces reminds me of a cross between AFI’s Girls Not Grey song and Hole’s Celebrity Skin. I think Hole is who you were thinking of during that song.
You have no idea how badly I wantes you to react to the album lol I knew you were gonna love it. BY FAR her best. I love Poppy but I do have to say her music can be hit or miss so you may get dissappointed by her other albums cause none of them sound like this. Surviving On Defiance reminds me on Deftones' "Koi No Yokan" phase, the beginning has some vibes from that album`s song "Entombed"

oh yeaaaa Hole. I was also thinking it was kinda Avril Lavigne-like (not sure what song, just the rythm and sound).
The chorus is pretty much Girls Not Grey by AFI too which is pretty sweet.

Yesterday and crystallized work so well together. This album is seriously good. Can’t wait to see poppy next year

Flux is also my personal favourite from her… dare I say Never Find My Place is her best song.
@energyismygame that's so valid, "as strange as it seems" is the best poppy song imo.
thankkkk you! I still can’t get over nothing!❤
The bring me influence from Jordan Fish on this album is so incredible. There’s so many parts where I can just imagine Oli singing on it.
