Rik Mayall was absolutely brilliant and such an amazing performer he always brought so much energy and charisma to everything he did and he steals every scene hes in, every time R.I.P “A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long” - Dr. Eldon Tyrell
No-one in the history of comedy has got slapstick violence so perfect as ade Edmondson and Rik mayall. Dangerous brothers The young ones Filthy rich and catflap Bottom All so over the top with the violence but they made that their own style. R.i.p Rik mayall
Mate you need to watch "the young ones" It's Rik mayall and ade edmundsons first tv series, it's just as chaotic and wacky as bottom. Also stars the guy that plays Dave hedgehog. I'm sure you would love it
I actually wouldn't recommend it. It's more important than it is funny, nowadays. (Doubt he'd laugh much. Too many references to things that he wouldn't have heard of. Even more so than Bottom.)
Yeah, The Young Ones was actually very topical and routed in early 80s political humour and pop culture, specifically British. I think a lot of the humour would be lost tbh. Typical of Ben Elton's work back then. I grew up on it so I adore it.
The Young ones was very important for modern British comedy just like Monty Python was. They inspired so many and changed the British comedy scene. They were part of the British alternative comedy scene back in the early 80's which included Ben Elton, French and Saunders and the brilliant Alexei Sayle as well as Rik Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Nigel Planner and Christopher Ryan (the Young ones).
It's crazy Josh , but so eccentric and brilliant. Glad you are enjoying it. I'm in my 40s so grew up with this as a teenager. Watched with my Mum. We share the same language ( almost, but for a few different words and expressions here and there ) . Great you Americans are interested in our little island's comedy ! !
“I think we’re in Kuwait” sadly im old enough to get that reference… this is one of the better episodes even though it was mostly fart and shit jokes but what do expect ! 😅
In 95 I was 15 living in a boarding house and saw the young ones by chance and fell in love with these 2. Young ones bottom and the new statesman are 3 of my favourite shows still today
@@yolandajones4990 I remember it was The Brittas Empire; The High Life; The Day Today (repeats); and Bottom. from 8pm til 10:30 Fridays in Jan 1995 were great nights in.
The Bottom Live shows (5 in total) are such a blast! You so need to react to those. But please react to the Bottom movie, Guest House Paradiso. So ridiculously funny. As most Brits my age, I grew up with these guys. They're just hilarious, so insanely funny. Rik Mayall was so funny with how animated and camp he could be, not to mention his facial expressions. Great reaction mate.
@@roronoataylor5689 Yes, sorry. 😂 I only discovered last year that Jennifer Saunders character Edina Monsoon in Ab Fab is based on Adrian Edmondson's nickname at school.
Try and catch the three Bottom Live stage shows on UA-cam. I caught 'Bottom Three: Hooligan's Island' at the Liverpool Empire in January 1998, it was amazing.
So I don't know if it is still a thing in news papers, but the joke at the start is referring to a thing they used to do with a picture from a football game with the ball edited out and people had to try and work out where it was. I am sure in this day and age and outside of the UK it made very little sense! XD
preceding this show was the Young Ones. A great (even better, in my opinion) show of 4 ridiculous students sharing a flat. Rick Mayall, Adrian Edmondson and two others.
Ey bruv, luv ur reactions, and damn you do alot of them! Was wonderng if you ever watched the Swil episodes of Michael Dapaah (all episodes are on his channel). Really funny but also really english, a real London hero. :D
I know you watched this a while ago but I always feel the weird Ferris wheel scene is a throwback to the Young Ones, in that it's so random. Shame it doesn't have much love on patreon votes :(

Bottom is timeless. Young ones is very much of it's time.

Rik, Ade and Chris Ryan (Dave Hedgehog) were 75% of The Young Ones...
The other 25% had a hole in his shoe
Or 60% if you count Alexi Sale
@@reinforcedpenisstem you have to include alexi. At 15 years old I didn't like him. Thought he was so unfunny. Today I find him amazing
