I'm glad these two seem to have expanded into the UK and other English speaking countries with their Karl Pilkington and Co. vids. As an American, it's nice to see such a worldly audience on a channel I'm a fan of.
“Stephen Hawking would be well happy.” the first time I heard him say it damn near killed me. I swear Karl nearly induced me into a seizure from laughing so hard.

There's no Muppet Schindler's List, but there is Art Speigelman's MAUS graphic novel which features a cast of rats, cats and pigs recounting his father's Holocaust story. And oh yes, it is unquestionably ART.
@@jimparis5073 Yeah, they wanted to provide a disclaimer on the cover mentioning the "controversial themes" and possibly even stop using it in education. Terrible.
Such a great read. There's a lot of subtext that can be hard to understand so I'd recommend looking something up to go along with it as you read. We discussed it in a course I took in college and even in my class, which had like 14 Jews in it, we all missed a lot that our teacher had to explain to us.
Thank you so much guys. I've been listening to those podcast for 2 years now. But it's so refreshing to look and listen to them again with you. It feels like I'm with two friends having a super laugh. It feels so good. You've put a smile on my face for 20min. And btw Karl is a f*ckin legend!
Ngl it’s quite uncommon for Americans to understand the dry humour and sarcasm. Absolutely love the fact your enjoying these and guarantee you could have great banter if you came over here on a holiday 🤣❤️
This is the best one yet of Karl, for me. I have to turn it down cause of Rickys laugh, then turn it up to hear what the guys have to say at the end. Top episode.
This is hilarious because in my town, literally in the middle of the square center, there is a HUGE stone pillar that looks like a penis (we called it the penis, always have) and birds shit on the top so there is always white shit running down from the top. This is Sweden though and nobody really cares. But I've never thought about it like it might be offensive or indecent.
There's a controversial, evil looking, scrap metal, baby statue in my city *Bradford* called *Baby of the North.* I like it as at least it looks like something, unlike some of the other modern art statues/sculptures in the city which look like nothing. For example there's... One which is basically just *a large, twisted, metal ruler* and is titled *Questor.* One which consists of *9 panels of glass* and is titled *Camera Lucida.* One which is basically *a large stone egg on its side, with a dint in the top.* One which is basically *some carved stones thrown on top of each other.* Two random twisted cones, with wire looking things on top, made out of *crazy paving, and old railway tracks,* which is titled *Fibres.* We also have a random statues of things like a *Armchair and a Grandfather Clock* made of stone titled *Grandad's Clock and Chair,* a *Leaf* made of metal titled *Homage to Delius,* a *Needle* made of metal titled *Connecting The City,* and a *Lightbulb* made of metal and concrete titled *Buried Light Bulb.*
@@ezekielx7536 There most likely is some, but I couldn't care less whether there is or isn't, as they're remembered for the good things they did. There's statues of *Queen Victoria, JB Priestley, Joseph Priestley, Samuel Lister, Titus Salt, Richard Cobden, Richard Oastler, William Edward Forster, Abraham Balme, Robert Peel* etc plus *35 Kings and Queens around City Hall* itself, and no doubt many more well known names across the 141 square mile city.
I may be consumed with luddite tendencies, but i tend to agree with Karl on modern art. What it lacks is real talent, something that real painters and sculpters don't lack.
I agree. I went to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and some of the stuff in there is total crap. One piece was a white square with one paintbrush stroke across it! Real art is things like the Mona Lisa and sculpture of David etc.
This excerpt came from the Ricky Gervais Guide To series podcast where each episode was a different topic…this episode being Art. These came out around 2007-2008 if I recall correctly
Karl's right about Sharks not making you an artist. People are amazed because it's a fricking Shark. Just like people are amazed at Dinosaurs. If that makes you an artist, tons of people could go catching lions or gorillas. That's not being an artist. That's owning a zoo. They're impressive, but it doesn't make someone an artist. Mother nature would be the artist. And of course not everyone could do it. But anyone can easily think of anything that could top it. A whale.
I actually think Karl is probably right about sculptors accidently knocking off limbs when creating statues. Ricky disregards it saying "that's what the artist saw". But you never see portrait paintings where the artist decided to not bother painting the limbs of a subject. I imagine it would be incredibly easy to accidently knock off an arm while sculpting brittle parts like that.
Karl was right. Duchamp was trolling the art world. Ironically he kicked off a trend of urine and poop art that continues to this day. This post modern art is literally shit.
The thing about conceptual art is that anyone can do it. You just need the set of instructions eg. put a shark in a tank. That's why it's called conceptual art. You are just showing a concept. This makes it different to most art, where you need technical skill to paint etc.
