    -------
    About Subnautica:
    Subnautica is an open world, underwater exploration and adventure game currently under construction at Unknown Worlds. The game is in advanced stage of Early Access development, with substantial content available for play. Performance/frame-rates, stability, and polish are not yet up to the standards of a finished game.
    Dive Into a Vast Underwater World
    You have crash-landed on alien ocean world, and the only way to go is down. Subnautica's oceans range from sun drenched shallow coral reefs to treacherous deep-sea trenches, lava fields, and bio-luminescent underwater rivers. Manage your oxygen supply as you explore kelp forests, plateaus, reefs, and winding cave systems. The water teems with life: Some of it helpful, much of it harmful.
    Scavenge, Craft, and Survive
    After crash landing in your Life Pod, the clock is ticking to find water, food, and to develop the equipment you need to explore. Collect resources from the ocean around you. Craft knives, lights, diving gear, and personal water craft. Venture deeper and further form to find rarer resources, allowing you to craft more advanced items.
    Construct Underwater Habitats
    Build bases on the sea floor. Choose layouts and components, and manage hull-integrity as depth and pressure increase. Use your base to store resources, park vehicles, and replenish oxygen supplies as you explore the vast ocean.
    Unravel the Mystery
    What happened to this planet? Signs abound that something is not right. What caused you to crash? What is infecting the sea life? Who built the mysterious structures scattered around the ocean? Can you find a way to make it off the planet alive?
    Disrupt the Food Chain
    The ocean teems with life: Use the ecosystem to help you. Lure and distract a threatening creature with a fresh fish, or simply swim as fast as you can to avoid gnashing jaws of roaming predators.
    Handle the Pressure
    Build a Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit, or PRAWN Suit, and explore extreme depth and heat. Modify the suit with mining drills, torpedo launchers, propulsion cannons, grappling hooks and more.
    Fear the Night
    As the sun goes down, the predators come out. The ocean is unforgiving of those caught unprepared in the darkness. Areas that are safe to explore during the day become treacherous at night, but also reveal a beauty that those who hide from the darkness will never see.
    Dive Below the Ocean Floor
    Cave systems wind below the sea bed, from dark claustrophobic passages to caverns lit by bio-luminescent life and burning-hot lava flows. Explore the world below the ocean floor, but watch your oxygen levels, and take care to avoid the threats lurking in the darkness.

    Early in the game fire extinguishers are cheap and easy to get. Getting chased? Just point it at the fish attacking you and you will be propelled away from them very quickly. Easy way to get away from the blast zone of those damn crash fish. They also push you to the surface far faster than the air bladder.

    One thing I wish I'd realized sooner: The gel sacs are plants, you can grow them in outdoor grow beds. You can also harvest the red blood pod things and plant them to grow more blood pod vines.
    Also, build a base as soon as you get the base builder. You don't need any of the actual rooms, you can just build the + shaped tunnel with a hatch. Then put a bunch of storage lockers in it. This will let you keep all the resources you harvest, as you will need them later.

      Also note that gel sacks are (practically speaking) the best fuel for bioreactors; a single gel sack can fully recharge a power cell and then some. I slept on the bioreactor at first because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of refueling when solar panels and thermal plants don't have that issue, but a bioreactor full of gel sacks will last a long time, and of course they are renewable (they grow fast too). The bioreactor is great because its build requirements are modest and you can use it to power a base anywhere, any time.

    Three beginner tips from me. First, get a base going in the red grass biome, specifically over some caves that you'll find later in the story. The location is fairly good with the second tip for collecting necessary resources. Second tip, find a scanner room and build 1+. A scanner room plus the HUD chip will allow you to find all of the resources you need, really easily. And don't be afraid to build more than one. Just might need to space them out some. Last tip, red grass biome is good for salt, use the salt to make bleach and the water from that bleach. It is WAY better than the other water you find from fish. It isn't the BEST water overall, but with a good supply of salt, it will help with early game.

    Biggest tips I can offer the noobs:
    1. Get the compass.
    2. Cook fish when you're gonna eat it immediately, keep 2 cured peepers on you during long trips, make bleach in advance, convert to disinfected water as you need it (bleach takes up less storage space)
    3.Earliest base should be little more than a storage facility.
    4. hang on to crash fish eggs, they make for great propulsion cannon ammo (seriously, I've made reapers, and ghost leviathans promptly bugger off).
    5. Solar power is useless when deeper than 100m.
    6. Don't approach the Aurora (the crashed ship, you were on) without a seamoth.
    7. When you first find The Jellyshroom Caves, grab as much magnetite as you can.
    8. Scanner rooms are your friend, get them asap, and the hud upgrade (built at the scanner room's fabricator).
    9. In early game, silver is easiest to find in The Grassy Plateau biome, and is most common at a depth around 100m.

    I forget what it's called exactly, but once you can build the modification station the survival knife heat blade upgrade is invaluable, it allows you to instantly cook edible fish when you cut them with it, this saves you from having to carry cured food on long journeys as you can simply kill and cook nearby fish when you get hungry. I still recommend carrying one piece of non spoiling food though, just in case you're exploring somewhere without a nearby food source available.

    If you’re having trouble finding the islands, a pro tip is to stand on your life pod and use the PDA while looking at the horizon. The normal clouds will be normal, but the obscuring island fog will glow, a dead giveaway that something is hidden.
    I’m not certain if this is a bug or if the developers intended it to be this way, but I guarantee you it works because they haven’t removed it after all these years, so it’s probably intentional, but it’s not well known.

    I don't know what is different now, but my tips for food/water are: Nutrient blocks are only emergency food, if you're far from your lifepod. Gather a lot of bladderfishes and make water, never cook them. You only need salt and cured food if you go far, but then you need even more water (I haven't used cured food). Don't forget that raw fishes can also be stored, so you can cook them anytime when you go home.

  • @trapscancreate5760

    I actually recommend that you play hardcore, it makes the deaths you endure feel like they actually mean anything. As well build an air tank and repair tool and fins first as getting your radio up is the best thing you can do. Do not swim more that 100 meters without a seglide and do not swim more than 200 without a seamoth and a re breather. Always check big debris felids, like places that look like sides of the Aurora, as they tend to hold room blueprints and will also have cargo crates with blueprints for the seaglide and seamoth. The biggest thing you want to avoid is caving. Unless you have a pathfinder caving will kill you. The exits to caves tend to black out and blend in with walls and if you run into the sulfur fish you will get disorientated really quick.

    • @RTukka
      @RTukka Рік тому +1

      Subnautica is one of the few games where I do recommend playing on hardcore, even for a beginner or a relatively casual player. The game is very fair and not very mechanically challenging. A reasonable amount of attentiveness, caution and preparedness will generally keep you safe. Getting lost/disoriented in certain caves and wrecks are the main danger points and as you say, the pathfinder tool can help with that a lot.
      You're most vulnerable in the early game before you have a bunch of equipment that make damage/suffocation less of a hazard, and the environments really don't get that much deadlier as you progress, as long as you're not going deeper than your vehicles can support. If you do die early on at least you don't have to replay a lot to get back where you were. If you die 8 hours into the game then you probably did something reckless.

    • @BoginTheOrange
      @BoginTheOrange Рік тому +2

      I mean nice advice I guess, but am going to try to play classic once or twice to familiarise myself with the game more then try hardcore. • @Tyris1013
    @Tyris1013 5 років тому +9

    Another good tip is that you can 'reuse' flares when you're done with exploring the area. I usually bring 2 flares to 'mark' the area when I'm 'crap, my inventory is full. I'll come back later' - till you have the beacon that is.
    You can pick the flares back up and drop them again somewhere, for some reason they last a very long time, haven't seen one expire yet. And they're hard to miss when you're exploring.

    My tips for beginners!!!
    1. Best time to get fish and Quartz is at night, the fish don't run away as fast, and the Quartz is easier to see especially in the Grassy Plateaus.
    2. When going into biomes to harvest materials with violent Fauna or to just kill leviathans, build a small yet tall square shaped base that you can hide and protect your Seamoth at, in the center at the bottom, that you can swim back to, when you need air.
    3. SAVE YOUR GAME CONSTANTLY!!! My game has frozen on me lots of times. Nothing's worse than playing for 3-4 hours, just for your game to freeze and you lose everything you just did. Shit sucks!!!

    Using salt on the fish is the worst idea, unless you're going on a long journey and need to keep the food from rotting. Firstly, the cured fish makes you more thirsty where plain cooked fish tops up your water as well as food. Second, you can use the salt deposits instead to make bleach which you can use to make water. So yeah, salting fish instead of cooking it is great if you want to die of thirst.

    You do not repair the radio, you repair the lifepod, the area next to the fabricator that is sparking, repair that.
    Silver is also available on the backs of the Reefbacks. Smash the barnacles. Some Reefies have Tiger plants on them who spill darts at you so be careful of those and, they move so as you are smashing they will be moving too.
    And I have never built a seaglide, never needed one.
    Beacons are a good idea, collect copper, make copper wire, craft beacons then whenever you find something you might want to go back to later, drop a beacon, name it. In the PDA there is a beacon management system where you can highlight beacons and other markers (Like radio location markers and later, vehicles) and change their colours.

      You don't need to go too far, look for the red grass biome and then check the cliff walls. You'll find some there, but it's not abundant anywhere unfortunately.

    here's some beginner tips.... (WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD !!)
    1... scan AND READ the living crap out of everything you come across (rocks, plants, fish, yourself.... EVERYTHING). Why would you do that? For 2 equally important reasons: 1) the developers have worked really hard to create this masterpiece of a game, and if you don't participate in the lore it means that you take a shit on the devs, and it's not cool... 2) reading your PDA on the things you scan will allow you to progress into the story, or finish the game. There's a few things that you scan which will clue you in on how to finish the game, and - as much as we hate finishing this masterpiece of a game - at some point we have to. And we can only do this if we actually read on the things we scan, so take this advice to heart and follow it religiously if you wish to get the best experience out of this game;
    2) whenever you can't find a certain resource that you need to craft whatever you want to craft go deeper. Always go deeper in Subnautica if you need stuff (blueprints, fragments, resources, whatever).
    3) some blueprints will require an item that you may already be carrying along with you (for example O2 tanks). I have seen so many retards playing this game create new O2 tanks in order to upgrade their existing O2 tanks that it's painful to watch anyone else doing the same shit again. Whenever you wish to upgrade the stuff you already have (knife, fins, O2 tank, whatever) simply unequip that item and use it to craft the improved version of it, then place it back on your character's doll;
    4) air pumps and pipes are useless. Do NOT bother with those, no matter how cool they look, or how useful they seem in the beginning of the game. You're gonna use them only once (out of curiosity) and after that you will completely ignore them because you'll soon find better options for your oxygen needs. Seriously, do not bother with air pumps and pipes!
    5) the inventory you see when you start the game is all of the inventory space you'll have throughout your entire playthrough of Subnautica. Which means... only carry the absolute must (1-2 bottles of water, 1-2 CURED - not cooked - fish, and the tools you're gonna need to explore, and that's about it!) ... Keep your inventory as free as possible, cause it's all you get, and when you explore new biomes you're gonna need that inventory space to pick up various things that you'll need when you explore stuff;
    6) waterproof lockers.... USELESS. Do not bother with those, either! If you play the game right (by scanning, reading, and crafting everything you need to progress into the game) you will have enough storage pretty soon in order not to bother with the waterproof lockers
    7) there's better fish than peepers. In the beginning peeper might seem like the most filling food (it actually is), but... if you scan and read what you scan you will find out that there's better fish than the peepers. Not gonna say which fish, but if you scan all fish that you encounter you will find out on your own
    8) your health is slowly regenerating over time if you keep yourself well fed and hydrated. I'm not sure what the exact percentages are cause I've last played Subnautica 1.5 years ago, but.... it's one of these: food and water at least at 85%, or.... food at least 75% an water at least 90%.... Again, I don't remember the exact values of food and water for which your HPs slowly regenerate over time, but the main idea is that if you stay fully fed and hydrated all the time you're not gonna need a single med kit the entire game... if you play carefully, that is :)
    9) old / rotten / decomposed plants... they are (obviously) not good for eating anymore, BUT they are good for planting. As soon as you craft the growbeds you can plant any old / rotten / decomposed (bad, in general) plant into the growbeds / pots without any issue, and you will obtain a fully grown, healthy, and nutritious plant.
    10) aquariums are NOT for breeding fish. And yes, you can actually breed fish in Subnautica, just not in aquariums. If you wish to breed fish use alien containment units, which you would find out about on your own anyway if you actually read the databank entries for these items. That's why it's important to read on what you scan
    11) energy consumption... your base draws energy from the sources it has access to which have been built properly, and it's drawing energy in the order you've built them.
    12) the scanner room..... it's mind boggling how many idiots (myself included, sadly) who play this game whine about not finding the resources they need, even though they can build a scanner room to help them locate the said resources. The scanner room is cheap as fuck to build, and it's so useful that I can't even.... well, whatever :) .... The point is: just build the scanner room and use it. You'll thank me later!
    13) beacons... carry 2-3 beacons with you at ALL TIMES. No, seriously! You're gonna find so many cool points of interest in your journeys that are not marked on the map, that you'll want to smash your computer to the wall for not being able to mark them somehow so you know where they are. Well, beacons can take care of this situation for you, and they are cheap to craft, as well. Craft some 4-5 beacons, put 2 of them in your inventory (remember tip #5 above?) so you won't fill up your space with unnecessary stuff, and then go explore freely.
    14) foundations... Base foundations are pretty useless, despite of seeming like the most important piece of your base. You can build bases entirely on the ground (or in mid-air if you wish) without using a single foundation ever! I use foundations only as support for the growbeds, and that's about it. For strengthening the integrity of your base always use hull reinforcements. They are so much better!
    15) the best organic matter for your bioreactor (if you'll ever use one, which you should because bioreactors are so freaking cool) is.... the oculus. Find oculi, breed them, and them fill your bioreactor with them, while letting 2-3 of them in the alien containment unit to breed further.
    16) if, after playing Subnautica for 3-4 hours you notice that you like this game too much (you will like it, I guarantee), then take your time to explore, craft, and build everything you can because once the story is finished you will feel sorry that it ends. Unfortunately, the story in Subnautica is pretty short (you can finish the game in less than 20 real time hours if you rush through it) and you can finish it pretty fast. But, on the other side, the good thing about the story is that it progresses along with you, and if you feel like exploring every inch of the map first, scanning everything that can be scanned, reading all of the entries in the PDA's databank, listening to all of the voicelogs, crafting all of the things that can be crafted and using them at least once, building multiple fully-working bases at different depths, and in different biomes... if you do all these things and mindlessly explore and play the game without focusing on the story... well, that's when you will begin to love Subnautica, and when the time you put into this amazing game will pay off. Like I said, Subnautica can be finished within 10-20 hours if you rush through it, but it would be a pity to simply finish it without playing the game like the developers have intended for it to be played.
    17) the thermometer... you can't craft it, so don't bother with it. You will find the blueprint for the thermometer in your PDA's blueprints but there's only the icon in there, because in reality the thermometer has been removed from your fabricator's craftable items, so ignore that item completely.
    18) if you visit the back of the Aurora you will come across a big ol' fish in there. Pet it and you'll finish the game faster :)
