"Death by Boredom" is legit one of the most underrated Kenny death gags. That whole live action sequence was a total fever dream.

Bro the ziplining episode hit me hard. While I didn't identify with the ziplining aspect, the idea of being corralled and trapped in a boring activity with family or friends that you initially were on board for definitely hits. That was me the only time I went to Disney World.

I agree, when I originally saw it, I didn’t know it was parodying a particular show, just the over the top “survivalist” show genre. Like, all of them have stuff like the narration, interviews, shaky cam, etc, it’s not like it’s hard to get what they’re satirizing

I'm an outdoor instructor. I loved the episode because of how accurately they made fun of of us which they hadn't really done before, apart from the Aspen episode which doesn't count because I can't ski XD. But the bit where the guide says, "we don't really have much time but who would like to learn about the biology of this tree?" was so on point, I showed it to all my colleagues because that is almost word for word what happens. -cheers from the UK.
A fun fact about this episode is that the boat the live actors were on belonged to Trey's dad, Randy Parker, whom Stan's dad is based on.

There’s something about it, man. This episode is a lot of peoples favorite, and it’s most definitely mine too. I have no idea why, it’s a normal episode, but it’s just so charming and funny.

The live action reenactment is my favorite bit, the actors are perfect parodies. I have to stop everything and watch it. Then when Kyle says "How many ipod nanos is friendship worth? I guess one." Kills me every time. I freaking love this episode, I get excited every time it cycles through my endless loop of South Park
then stan crying saying "the worst part of it is you can't take it back!...I mean, it was a 5th generation so you can't trade it in anywhere" dude still feels worse abt the ipod nano turning out to be lame than the fact he betrayed his friends lol just adds to the hilarity

I never went ziplining or saw I Shouldn't Be Alive, but I still love this episode. I just like the juxtaposition of a generally relatable "boring trip" with an over-dramatic framing. The live action segment is what really puts it over the top to a classic.
This, i never saw the show they parody nor have i went zipling because that doesn't exist here, but i still loved the episode because i can still believe how absolutely boring it must be. I can imagine the pain of being stuck in that boring situation with people you despise but have to be nice to. And for them to then turn it into a documentary acting like they're in severe danger of death is funny. Simple as.
The live action was a bit weird but nothing too bad.

Pretty much sums up what I came up say.
There's enough context clues in the episode to understand why you should agree with it's themes IF you find those things tiresome or boring. Thus making it funny to you that the boys are acting so hyperbolic about it.
Sure you might get a slight increase in your amusement if your empathic to them as a shared survivor of this 'traumatic experience' 😅 but got didn't need it.

Until watching this video I had no idea that they were referencing a specific show, I just thought that it was combining multiple reality shows that involved survivors combined with the overall relativity of going on a tour only to think that it sucked, not specifically ziplining and that worked for me
As someone who actually worked as a "zip line hooker upper/naturalist", the episode was incredibly accurate and HILARIOUS. My job was to literally walk people around and tell them about trees and stuff before finally sending them down the zipline. Live action at the end kind of went off the rails for me, though.

I can't say I can technically relate to the boys in this episode. But I LOVE when south park does the "making a mountain out of a molehill" thing where just small inconveniences or threats are taken super seriously. This episode is a classic if you ask me. I like the episodes where you can tell it's directly inspired by something Matt or Trey experienced irl anyways
Best live action sequence in the show is the VR episode. That was also my introduction to South park when my dad was watching it, and the ending always gets me.

I wached he discovery show, so i go he joke insantly, its what made the episode most funny o me, he sheer accuracy and details how hey recreated the shows format and pacing jusctaposed by the mundaine situation made it a great parody.

And this episode just stood out in terms of how much it made me laugh.
I loved "I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining".
"if I take a crap in the woods the blood will attract beavers" is still one of the funniest isolated three seconds in the show. It's also just incredibly accurate to going on tours and stuff like that

me and my sister were on a trip a few years ago and my parents wanted to be alone for a little bit so they made us zip line for hours. we were so excited, until we saw how long it took, how many people, and how boring it was. i find this episode very relatable and will forever defend it.

Zip lining is fun imo, but I can imagine it getting quite boring on a guided tour group. Like I'd rather wait in a line to do it once than with the same group lol.

Yea this episode by trey parker really captures just how boring and tedious ziplining is, by making this 20 minute episode feel like 12 hours and never having an enjoyable moment throughout the whole experience.

This episode captures the experience of so many group tours, not just ziplining. Reminded me of kayaking/biking/hiking tours ive been on. Definitely one of my favorites and im shocked people dont find it more relatable.
It also reminded me of horse riding before they even got to the horse riding. I think many kids have experienced excitement over going horse riding, imagining running free with the wind in your hair, only to have some woman slowly walk you around on a lethargic pony.
That's what I was thinking too, there are tons of experiences I've had that are similar to this. Another thing is that even though it's not parodying the most popular show in the world, there are tons of shows that are very similar.
so true, even in National parks...I went to Yosamite and there was more people there than all the surrounding cities combines. Had to stand in line, like it was a zoo and not a park. Turn the corner, take a picture of this tree and rock...but be nice to the 100 people in front and behind you.
it was the worst excuse for a "Park" I had ever seen. I will never go to any popular national park again. If I am gonna do something, I will do it alone and not with a group of random people...no cruises either :(

The "to make a long story short" always kills me💀
This episode has always been one of my favorites, when I was younger my family would tend to go out on tours or simply explore areas you don’t normally go to. So that being the case, you can imagine how bored I was on said tours, having experienced what was shown in the episode, I can say with absolute certainty that it accurately represents the experience. Though the only inaccuracy is that it doesn’t go the entire way with it, the escape before they really experience it, after all they didn’t leave when it was already pretty late into the night.
This episode more than most of the others is really memorable. Sometimes it just pops into my head without even thinking about it, and sometimes I wish Hanky would just show up and save me from the tedium I’m experiencing at the time.
I remember watching this episode and not remembering the live action stuff at the end (this was a couple years after I watched the entire series) and I was blown away. I've never seen "I shouldn't be alive", but I'm familiar with other shows in that dramatized genre. Still though, I think this episode is pretty damn funny. The humor is spot on (now knowing the series it parodies) and adds that classic SP style we all know and love

I’ve never gone ziplining before and I’ve never seen the show that is getting parodied, but I still think it’s hilarious. I think anyone can relate to the idea of boredom or making a decision that you regret. Which is exactly what happens in the episode. I feel like that’s a simple enough reason to call it relatable. Expecting Matt and Trey to cater all their episodes to our liking is expecting a bit too much in my opinion. I thought the episode did a fine job entertaining people. Even though it’s not one of the best episodes, its definitely not one of the worst

Me and my friends loved this episode. But we were both big fans of “I shouldn’t be alive” and had recently gone zip lining when the episode came out. At the time it was so coincidental it was creepy.

Just had a watch. I loved it. Feels like the writers just got together to talk about trips they instantly regretted.
I went ziplining at Gatorland a couple months ago. It was awesome. I wish I had signed up earlier to do the tour.
This episode was really funny and one of my favorites. The creativity with it being a survival styled episode was hilarious, but when they cut to the live action reenactment I just lost it.
What i'm wondering is how people can't associate Zip lining with any other boring group activity. Surely they've been on some kind of outdoors thing that took way too long and made you talk with people you found really annoying. I've never been zip lining but i still found the feeling of being stuck in a long boring situation relatable and funny.
I mean if they never been ziplining I’m sure camping was boring to them.
Some people dont have life experiences... Their existence is brought up to work, work and die. Thats their entire 40-95 years average on this planet.
Its a humbling and scary thing to know. People arent equal. Our intelligence and self awareness divide us infinitely.
I think you may find a lot of people haven't experienced such trips.

This episode isn't the normal laugh out loud funny, but if you know this show(or this documentary format) and can relate to being stuck in a terrible event with a dull tour group it becomes so much better and funnier.
This episode resonates with me because it reminds me of when I went White Water rafting. What I expected to be a fun trip ended up just being 3 1/2 hours of fighting to not get flung out of a boat and land on rocks
I’ve heard apparently this episode was also inspired by a traumatic experience that Matt and Trey actually had to go through. They decided to one day go zip lining with their wives and they found it really boring. A lot of the things that happened in the episode (i.e. people asking redundant questions and making the trip go longer) actually happened to them.
But I just really love how this episode seems to parody a lot of those survival reality shows that follow the same sort of formula. Actors reenacting experiences that some survivors had to go through while the actual survivors talk about their experience behind the scenes. And what these boys had to go through is actually so trivial seeing it be over exaggerated like this was so hilarious in my opinion.
don’t call it a traumatic experience lol. That phrase has been completely diluted to mean a mild inconvenience which gets in the way of people who actually have been through trauma

This episode was insanely relatable to me. I went on a Washington D.C. tour once and it was pretty boring. They woukdnt let us go to the places we wanted us to go (i wanted to go to the holocaust museum) but the tour guide wouldn't really let us do anything but show us the same marble buildings. I liked the buildings and all, but jeez i was so insanely bored on that tour. I wanna go back to D.C, but im gonna go alone or with my family. Not on a tour
Besides the tour guide needing to keep things logistically feasible and avoid possibly infringing on the rules of certain attractions, that museum in particular costs money and operates on reservations so it wouldn't have worked anyway. If you come back I recommend researching some places you want to go ahead of time. Most of the tourist stuff is very close together, either around downtown or along the national mall just south of it, so in between those you've got easy opportunities to free roam. A lot of the other popular stuff is easy to get to on the metro, which costs just a couple dollars per trip on average. All the biggest museums are completely free
@ninu yeah. All the stuff I wanted to look at (the Holocaust museum and the MLK memorial) weren't in our time slot, so we kinda had to rush around so we could see what the tour guide was required to show us. That was the last day on the tour, sadly. So the next morning, we had to pack up and leave.
Yeah, don’t go to DC on a tour like that unless you can find tours specifically in the museums you wanna see. You’re better off wandering on your own or going with someone you trust that knows DC well

I loved this episode, I had just gone ziplining for the first time in Colorado and I thought it was boring as hell, I could go downhill faster on a bicycle. Then a few months later this episode came out and I just knew Trey Parker & Matt Stone must have also just gone ziplining in Colorado and thought the same thing when they created this episode.
I went to a zip lining trip that had like a 1 minute video or something and then we went zip lining through a lot of locations there, it was basically no wait and overall fun for me to do it. It was at the Predator movie set place, tbh at the time I had no idea what that movie was at all, still not sure. But ngl the boredom and situation when thinking about it, is still enjoyable to me as it still feels relatable on boredom and doing something you thought was fun and regretted
I'm a german kid who was raised by south park.. i didn't knew about the parody and never went ziplining but i LOVED this episode and it'll be forever one of the best episodes

Never heard of that show but I still got most of the references since these are tropes used in a 100 different reality shows. Interviews and narrators repeating everything is used everywhere. x-rays remind me of Sport Science and live reenactments with bad actors are used in crime shows
I have been watching these videos back to back. I have never seen an episode of South Park in full. I do not know why I am so engrossed with content but I appreciate it anyway
The live action part was surprising and yet so funny. And actor who played Kyle deserved an award he really put his whole actussy into being Kyle for 10 minutes. The intensity of his performance was on another level.

I've been Ziplining once and I found it fun, such a rush. But I still found this episode enjoyable to watch

The commentary on this episode makes it so much funnier.
Going ziplining or rock climbing or anything like that can be great, but only in a small group. Once you cram 40 people on a walking path where it only moves as fast as the slowest person, you're gonna have a bad time.
I think that kind of trips are better when you want a moment away to think about your life or something.
Or when you get to set up at least a couple things instead of waiting for others to do everything.
And lastly, going to that kind of trip with someone you want to know better may be pretty cool, as everything becomes new when you are with someone that gives a new perspective.
Reminds me a bit of the gag in smiling friends when they sit at the airport.

Like, it has this perfect balance between good and bad comedy, and i cant tell if its intentional or not considering what it contains(Like that oldman that tells really long short stories). Though the live action segment is hilarious.
It reminded me of shows similar to this nature but not the exact source material it's parodying, I understood what it was about based off of similar shows of this type.

I don't see how anyone 5yrs below to over my age (29) couldn't at least recognize the styling of this episode is parodying a TV show, even if they may not know which one. Its surprising that this formatting of a Discovery/History Channel-esque show isnt immediately recognizable to someone.
From across the pond, I hadn't seen the parodied show but was familiar enough with the format from having seen other US docudrama/docutainment shows.
I honestly tend to use this episode as an intro to the series. It gives a really good look at every boy’s personality so well it’s a good launching pad

I watched this episode while tripping on acid and years later I can say without a doubt it is the absolute hardest I have ever laughed in my life. It took close to 2 hours to watch it from how much we were pausing and laughing, and my abs were sore for 3 days after purely from how hard I was laughing.

There's so much stupid shit going on that you really don't know what's coming next, and it gets dumber and dumber, but it's still serious in its presentation. Especially the end with the live action I find so funny for exactly that reason, the actors stay serious although it's really the stupidest thing I've ever seen

So for 3 years in my 20s I lived in a house with 2 of my buddies. We always had people coming & going. The TV was pretty much always on & tuned to Comedy Central. Every time an episode of South Park came on, which was a lot, I’d say “ Hell yeah this is the best one”. It became a running thing in the house every South Park episode is the best one.
The fact is that I didn't even know it was referencing to a show, but it was still one of my favorite episode and i laughed A LOT
Yeah, Bloom completely missed what made the episode funny in the first place... If he didn't even understand what made this funny his sense of humor is so wack that I don't even want to know what he finds funny
You do'nt even have to have seen the "I shouldn't be alive" show to love this ep. All those dramatic re-enactment/'based on a true story" TV shows of the 2000s followed the same format. That said, I loved this episode. I was shocked to hear so many people didn't like it, but this video does a good job explaining why.

I didn't even know it was an 1on1 parody till now but I remember this episode being one of my favourites😂.
Truth be told, I never had the references, nor the relatable aspect, but the way the narration conveyed it in such a way that it held the episode together somewhat nicely (when I saw that in the first place, I was unaware of the "survival" genre of shows (whether it being reenactment with actors, or actual people doing said survival), and It peaked my curiosity into watching more, like Naked & Afraid
As for "Death by Boredom", while not as iconic as "dead by laughter", that one struck me solid, High School boredom level, which made it funny, yet underrated🤣🤣🤣
This is easily one of south parks best episodes. Not sure how anyone could not like it. It’s hilarious and it’s a classic parody of another show. This episode is perfect.

IDK man the pip episodes were awful, terrance and phillip are low tier cringe shit these days. I'll say they hit more than they miss but there is still the occasional episode where it just drags along.

I honestly relate to this episode so hard cause my family used to go on trips like these all the time and as a kid. I had a attention span of a housefly, it was really boring and painful
I should have never gone ziplining is how i got my mom hooked to south park, she just thought it was some dumb adult cartoon for stoners, but after i was watching it on tv while visiting home a couple years back she thought it was one of the funniest things she ever watched. To us it was relatable because we went on a trip to Honduras a couple years back and we went ziplining and it is boring as hell, the most exciting part was riding in the back of a truck on a dirt road with a cliff on one side, everything else was pretty boring about it. So while I do not think it's the best episode i have nostalgia for it because it got my mom into the show.
How could you forget the BEAVERS joke? It was quite literally the most fire joke in the episode and it didn't even get a message. Cartman literally explains away the reason he can't simply shit in the woods because of beavers which is seemingly viewed as ludicrous by the others, but in the live action segment, when we get that beautiful depiction of Cartman shitting over the edge of boat in live action, we get the pay off as Kenny screams out BEAVERS!
It was built up to and executed well. Quite literally the peak of the episode is that moment Cartman attracts Beavers with his diarrhea.
This is one of the most memorable South Park episodes I’ve watched, and I can confirm zip lining is only fun if you just do it once and if it’s over a pool over water that you can skim across
I loved this episode as a kid, i remember recording it on my dvr and watching it secretly when my mother wasnt around it was more like a movie to me lol
You don't need to know the exact show this was parodying. There are a bajillion shows with a similar format. And who tf hasn't been to an annoying group activity before. They are almost unavoidable if you have family and/or went to school.
As someone who has never been ziplining, I still felt the pain of the experience. It genuinely looked like a horrific experience so I still very much enjoyed the episode

I worked at a post house that produced unscripted TV when I saw this episode. I couldn't stop laughing at how accurate this episode is to the reality formula.
The interview, the transitions, the sfx, the recreations were just amazing.
imo this is easily a top 10 episode of the show, absolutely love it
I LOVE that episode. Kyle's forced smile was very relatable. The live action bit was funny for a while but it dragged on a bit too long and the brunette Kenny is unforgivable. We blondes deserve proper representation DAMNIT!

For someone who just went zip lining before this came out, grew up watching discovery channel and grew up in marina del ray where the boat scenes were shot this is a top tier episode and definitely one of the funniest and most quoted episode between my dad and I.
I think I liked this episode so much cause I went on a zip line tour JUST like this and it’s so relatable and funny

my ziplining experience was great, it was in kauai hawaii and it was super windy and super rainy over huge mountains, it was terrifying and super thrilling
This episode brought back all my trauma of going on boring guided tours with my parents, so I love it.
