I believe the product is as you describe as you know a lot about groupsets. The double geared electric hub is in its infancy and will only get better as you describe. Question is...do you want to be an early adopter? I have been riding with and without a front derailleur for more than 4 decades. Most still prefer a front derailleur to a single ring in front for road racing with standard rear hub but...a two geared rear hub changes the game.
For many as in most things, it will come down to cost. Front derailleurs, mechanical shifting are cheap. This hub setup whatever its paired with, will be expensive.
Depends what you want to spend. I am good at setting up mechanical groupsets so a front derailleur isn't a monstrosity to me, so until the price comes down, I wouldn't consider this option. Also, reliability and maintenance are still any unknown. No stopping progress and will watch together.
    Thanks for your review.

So, it works in the same way as Shimano di2 synchro shift, but using the Classified hub in place of the front derailleur and double chainrings?

No one needs this but the bike industry will continue to convince us that we do.

    TPR? what

What efficiency gains? This setup has the bad chainline of a 1by drivetrain plus a few extra gears in the hub meshing and loosing watts. Plus more rotational mass in the rear wheel.
    Pure bullshit marketing.

Many pros run big small up the climbs, there's no worse chainline than that and this will not be as bad.

In other news, is just like the front but more complicated and with more complicated maintenance. I pass.

I disagree - REAR derailleurs suck more, because they're so large & exposed, and prone to damage.

I want this for tt. If they make tt shifters and the hubs are compatible with Aerocoach’s rims, I’m buying it instantly.

    1. TRP partnering with Classified is a very good match. TRP has the manufacturing hutzpa to consistently make it happen. (If FSA didn't have WE, they would have been an even better match.) 2. Once someone wins a big race with this groupset (Gravel, Tri, Road), there will be lots of sales after that, though price might have to come down a bit. I'd like to see a women's team be sponsored and get the notariety.

Looking forward to trying this but I do like the redundancy of a conventional 2X system. The advantage is that it allows you to spread the wear of the cassette over several cogs, so as to get more use out of the entire cassette. That advantage is maintained here, even with one chain ring. If they can get the price comparable to a good 2X system, I think it will be good for gravel bikes where it is an advantage to get rid of the front derailleur in order to make more space for a larger rear tire.

looking forward to see more out in the world testing on this, and yes thishould find a place (niche or otherwise) in the wider market. Classified still feels like a premium product but this may actually work better at the more everyday/basic end of the market - i see too many inexperienced people on bikes not using gears properly, especially with front mechs...so having something where a click makes it easier would be great.

If it was a “game changer” - SRAM would have bought out Classified. And planetary transmissions are not new tech by any means.

How do you know what price Classified put on their IP? And that SRAM can afford it?
