The intro sequence also explains the basic plot of aliens from Nemesis attacking Earth by dropping asteroids and using newalone particules to power themselves. Humanity stood no chance.
After a long ""truce"" that isn't really letting humanity rebuild itself, one fed up soldier stole the Black Fly in order to rebel and fight back. This ship is able to use the newalone too and its use was prohibited as a condition for peace. Things get weirder from there on.
