I started selling Magic cards a couple of months ago and you really put things into perspective for me when selling bulk. I was feeling a bit doubtful about selling bulk but after watching this it’s made me feel a lot better about doing it. $137 for 2+ hours worth of work is a lot more than what I’m getting paid for 2 hours at my regular job and I work hard. Why not work hard for myself for a couple of hours a day and make quadruple the amount I get in a full days worth of work at a job that can replace me in a second.
Now, obviously each day is going to be different and the TCG market is very volatile but can’t beat working for yourself. It’s all about mindset and how much work you’re willing to put into yourself.
Thank you for this video.
Great video! Just got my level 3 on TCG Player. 5,000 listed with two monster boxes to go. Pulling for sales is the fun part of selling on TCG Player. Keep it up!
That's Awesome - CONGRATS!!!
Grats! I'm maxing my lv2 inventory now 😂😂
Impressive you were able to pick all those cards in 49 mins. I only sell ultra rare or better and have two BCW card sorting trays, if you have a good organization system it can literally take seconds to fill orders. For me all the work is done up front with the initial sort. Great content as always.
Organization is definitely the biggest thing when it comes to selling in volume! Spending that time up-front to get everything organized properly saves SO MUCH time in the long-run when actually pulling orders!
Using a jumbo card to see what card to pull next on the spreadsheet = Genius
That's about the only thing Jumbo Cards are useful for! LOL 🤣
@@OldSkoolPokemon hey, my jumbo card binder does a great job of being a bookend for my other binders
Really appreciate you sharing the process Nick!
Thanks for this! Great seeing the profit on the time invested. What pricing are you using on TCGPlayer? Low, Market, something else? Do you have a minimum price set?
This is an extremely informative video, thank you for making this.
Good video! Alot of new sellers don't realize how much work goes into it and how valuable the prep work is.
We need to get more of those Nick time lapse videos
Great seeing your process! Need to get some higher tables, might save your back in the long-run! Great video
Definitely need to do something with those tables to prop them up a bit; or, invest in one of those small stools like you see in Doctor's Offices. I feel like being able to sit while pulling cards would really slow-down productivity though 😆
I was falling asleep listening to this, I swear I thought I was listening to Ernie on Sesame Street!
great video! would be great to also see a similar video for the hit cards half of the work -- what time/organization it takes to open, list, and ship the non-bulk and total time overall when handling a new set release
I’m planning to do a similar type of video when Silver Tempest comes out talking about time involved with opening, sorting, and listing everything! I’ll get into pricing of Hits / Codes and how Bulk turns into Free Inventory when I do that video!
Appreciate the shout. I think "pokenomics patreon" was said 5 times in 50 seconds 😆 thanks again for coming on and great presentation as well as great video here
I just mailed you guys my bill for coming on as your special guest and all the shout-outs I gave you in this video! Haha 😂
@@OldSkoolPokemon 😬
whoa what production on the timelapse haha great video!
wow first taking all the cards from all orders combined and then separating the cards for the orders is a really great tip. I have a store with 200,000 cards and I only process 120-150 per hour. I'll try it immediately starting this week.
Dividers in top loaders is so genius...thank you for saving my sanity going forward!!!!
Always wondered about this! Appreciate the insight of a successful seller
Sweeeet, daily uploads starting today?
Great video
Ufff, I don't know about Daily Uploads! Haha 😆
Any advice on getting approved for direct? The $600 per week requirement is what’s getting me rejected when I apply? I find it hard to reach right now with bulk without actually being in the direct program to get the volume.
Hey old skool I bought 3 neo genesis holo starters off you on EBay and I’ve also bought from your whatnot stream. You are one of the best big sellers in the hobby 🙏🏻
THANKS for the Business & Kind Words - Appreciate That!!!
I have a similar amount of bulk, and afraid to list them in fear of getting eaten alive by TCGplayer fees + cost of shipping materials. What's your pricing strategy (card price and shipping price)?
Also, why do you only sell bulk on TCGplayer? Why not list everything there?
Old school BABY!!!
I said this before but daaaaaaaaaaaamn I would never want to do this kinda thing, even leaving aside the fact that it'll probably take me hours and hours, props!
That said I'd be down for a full real time 3 hours video, seems intresting to put on the second monitor while I play a game or something on the primary one haha
I completely understand; this definitely isn't for everyone!!! There's a substantial amount of time and effort that goes into selling Modern Bulk! And, there's definitely easier ways to start a side-business around Pokemon! You've got to be a special kind of crazy to actually enjoy this type of work LOL 🤣
I hadn't thought of doing something like this as a livestream; however, I definitely want to get into more of these "day in the life" type videos and kind of vlog what I'm doing everyday - kind of like what Z&G was doing in his older videos.
@@OldSkoolPokemon Will be looking forward to them for sure
Great video, keep up the grind
Pretty good. I dont know why people talk down about selling bulk.
It takes a lot of time and effort when selling Individual Bulk; but, if you have the time and are willing to put in the work required; there's nothing that comes close to % Profit! The actual dollar-amount of Profit is obviously a lot smaller; but, as a secondary source on income added onto existing business; it's GREAT!
I would definitely invest in a electric desk to raise it up. Your back is going to thank you down the line. IKEA
Definitely need to do something with those tables to prop them up a bit; or, invest in one of those small stools like you see in Doctor's Offices. I feel like being able to sit while pulling cards would really slow-down productivity though 😆
Such a sick video.
What were those cards that you sold 100 of? That’s crazy!
I forget the exact cards; probably one of the Lost Origin C. / Un. Cards. Surprisingly, that's actually not a one-off occurrence; that probably happens to me at-least every other week or so where someone purchases 50-100 Copies of the same C. / Un. for $0.05 - $0.10 Ea. I have no idea why you'd purchase that many of the same Bulk Card 🤷♂ I'll take it though! 😂
And I don’t think I’ve ever seen a cleaner or more organized workspace when it comes to this kind of volume
I'm going to have to give an "office" tour now that I'm FINALLY in a decently-sized room! My set-up before this was BAD - that's why I never did videos like this beforehand! Haha 😆
But Yeah, that's one of my biggest strengths (and weaknesses); I am extremely OCD when it comes to organization and cleanliness when it comes to my office. The rest of the house; not so much... LOL
❤
Why do you print out shipping labels instead of printing shipping on the envelopes, that would save an extra step and a penny an order.
Great info!
Solid content ty
👀 might have to hit you up for that DP/plat era stuff then!
There's a link to my TCGPlayer Store in Video Description if you want to take a look at what I currently have available. There's not a ton of D&P - Platinum Era Stuff; but, I still have a bit from that huge EX - Platinum Bulk Purchase I made a few years ago.
curious what's the lowest you price a bulk card? .01? .010? .20?
Not looking forward to this I own a lgs in port Huron and we have been saving our bulk for 5+ years and just putting it in the back room and we just got a roka sorter so this will be fun
still need to calculate the time to store the cards into your inventory and cost to buy the cards you sold?? This is completely inaccurate
This video was more-so just covering pulling, packing, and shipping my TCGPlayer Orders after EVO announced that that were cutting-back number of people involved with EVO Program - I was curious as to how long that process was taking me as that's the majority of time and effort that I'm putting into TCGPlayer.
Inventory is only updated 5 Times / Year with each new Set and my cost-basis is more-or-less 0 on the vast majority of what I sell on TCGPlayer as my cost-basis is covered selling Hits on eBay and bulking-out Code Cards to Bulk Buyer. I'm planning to do a video going more in-depth into those aspects with Silver Tempest Opening.
When shipping bulk in PWE how many cards can you typically ship with one stamp? I just started selling on TCG and have gotten a couple orders for like 10-15 cards and wasn't sure if I need 1 or 2 stamps.
It depends on if you’re sleeving each card or not. I’ll do 4/6 (Sleeved/Un-Sleeved) with a Forever Stamp and then 12/15 with Forever Stamp and Additional Postage Stamp.
How long did it take you to organize by set, and then alphabetically within the set? Guessing that is a mountain of work just to get to startup mode. Not sure you are accounting for that in your per hour profit costs ....
I didn't account for any of that within this video - this was more-so to see how long it was taking me to actually Pull / Package Orders after having that initial "infrastructure" set-up. I was curious about that myself after TnT EVO announced their drastic changes. I did go much further in-depth for Patreon Discussion and calculated timing for opening, sorting, listing... newest Modern Sets. I spend roughly 20 Hrs. to 25 Hrs. opening, sorting, and listing the newest Pokemon Sets (Opening 30x Booster Boxes). So, there's definitely a substantial amount of additional time that goes into this business-model outside what I mentioned here. I'm planning to go further in-depth on those aspects when the next Pokemon Set comes out!
@@OldSkoolPokemon I am truly impressed by your work ethic!
Why is Kermit selling Pokémon cards?
Hello, I have a quick question. How can I profit off of bulk if I get large orders? For example, I sell 150 bulk (SWSH ERA) for $0.01-$0.02 each. That’s about $1.50-$3.00. But, the cost of postage and materials would make me lose money. How do I solve this issue?
You Can’t… 😢 You need to set a “floor price” for Bulk C./Un. - I wouldn’t sell anything for $0.01-$0.02 because at that point, you’re better off just bulking-out to a bulk buyer for $0.01-$0.02 Ea. I used to use a floor price of $0.05 and was still getting a lot of sales despite not being lowest list. But, even then, I ran into those transactions where someone would buy 100+ $0.05 Cards and I’d lose money after Fees / Shipping. That’s the biggest downside to Bulk Sales, you’re always going to have those types of orders. But, you’re going to have more orders that you’re actually making money than losing money! You just need to take the losses with the wins on TCGPlayer.
Saved to watch later
This video might convince you to finally get on TCGPlayer!
@@OldSkoolPokemon I've been looking into it for sure. Want to know exactly what I'm getting into before I make my decision
@@OldSkoolPokemon that's really good profit for some bulk cards. About double what I make on average from eBay bulk modern. Awesome video. Thanks for that foreal!!!
@@JRayPoke TCGPlayer is definitely the way to go for Modern Bulk IMO! Individual Sale Prices are a lot lower than eBay's $0.99 Minimum; but, you typically make-up for that with QTY of Cards within each Order. Single-Card Orders are fewer on TCGPlayer than they were for me on eBay.
@@OldSkoolPokemon I see that. I still get more single card orders than I'd like to. It's aggravating. I've got a few people who come in 2 or 3 times a week and order only one card lol
How many cards can you put in pwe? Looked like you had 10+ in that sleeve.
On TCGPlayer, I'll do 1-5 Cards with a Forever Stamp; 5-15 Cards with a Forever Stamp + Additional Ounce Stamp; and 16-35 Cards with a Forever Stamp + 2x Additional Ounce Stamps. Anything over 35 Cards goes into First Class Package. One of these days, I'll make an updated Shipping Video talking about how I package majority of my orders.
@@OldSkoolPokemon good to know. I recieved a package with 2 top loaders taped together with 2 or 3 cards in one with only a forever stamp. I was under the assumption that 4 cards in a toploader is more than a forever stamp alone would cover. Almost positive it was 5 cards in 2 top loaders taped and wrapped in a piece of paper.
Where can I get those cardboard storage boxes you have???
Those are BCW Super Monster Boxes (5000 CT). I purchase from my Distributor; but, you could also purchase on eBay or through BCW Supplies (www.bcwsupplies.com)
@@OldSkoolPokemon ok thanks
How much time does it take you to list a single card?
On TCGPlayer, it’s simple to list new cards because all you’re doing is entering a QTY and Price. So, only takes a couple of seconds per card; maybe 20-30 Seconds / Card if you’re listing a lot of cards from different sets.
@@OldSkoolPokemon Thank you for replying! I've been looking into it a little bit, but haven't gotten too far into the process yet. I think I'm a bit intimidated by the shipping settings as they feel a bit confusing to me 🤷♂
@@joshpotts4328 TBH, TCGPlayer's back-end for seller's is AWFUL when compared to eBay. However, it's really not that bad; just need to spend a bit of time learning it and it'll quickly become second nature. My first couple of days shipping orders were a bit rough; but, after that, it's not bad!
@@OldSkoolPokemon Thanks for the encouragement!
