The bird knew freedom, the orca has a sad life. Let's just let it be an orca doing orca stuff for once

Evolution in the making
And one of em is like "look free food"
Reminds me a bit of Finding Nemo. He hopped down screaming “MINE. MINE. MINE. MINE. MI………..”

The craziest thing is that Orkid was born in captivity. She was never taught how to hunt anything. And here she is making up her own hunting technique to eat something besides fish.
That’s in their nature. This is the same reason humans can subconsciously tell when someone is looking at us. They are made to hunt. It is their stimulation. Orcas are not meant to be hand-fed tiny dead fish.

@Buddy Guyerson I can't stop laughing!! 🙉
The fact that the orca deliberately thought "I will sacrifice my meal for a chance to catch a bigger one" is genuinely amazing to see. Delayed gratification and risk vs. reward. Incredible.
I don't if it's true, but I read that orcas sometimes put young seals to safety to make them grow up and reproduce. All in order to have a better meal in the future. Basically what humans do with cows and pigs.
And the way it retreated to entice the bird to approach closer.

The level of intelligence this took was scary to think about.
1. The orca knew the bird liked fish
2. The orca understands the concept of bait
3. It had to understand that the bird would be intimidated if it was to close
4. It analyzed the birds response based on how close the it was and made changes
5. The scariest thing is the orca had forethought and INTENT to grab the bird
wtf...
It really isn’t scary, the problem with humans is that we underestimate other animals and think of them as inferior, which tends to make a lot of people uncomfortable whenever that idea is challenged
Don't forget that the orca saved the fish to use as bait in the first place. It sacrificed the immediate gratification of eating the fish for the chance of catching a bigger prize later. That ability to plan for the future is what makes it really smart!
It's a mammal

DreamScape Octopus routinely do just that to the point zoos have to retro fit the cages to prevent escape, yet I wouldn’t call them as intelligent as human in the sense of what a *human* considers Intelligent

When you think about the number of cognitive tasks that took place in order for this orca to catch the bird, you really have to be impressed. These animals are amazingly intelligent.
Whats more, the orca is probably doing this for fun as much as for food. Orcas have been known to play with their food in the wild.
@Falcorianism Not common. Yes, most animals are smart, but they all rely on their own body to hunt. Very few make use of tools to aid them, and that is where animals like the Orca, Octopus and certain Primates shine. These are a notch above others.
When parents ground their children in the house but still allow them to develop and sharpen their skills 👍👍

I've watched a few documentaries about orcas, and multiple people involved with outfits like SeaWorld and whatnot stopped working in that field primarily because they realized how substantial their intellect was, including mourning the capture of young orcas almost like a funeral. They wouldn't leave the area and were emitting disturbing sounds for hours on end. The fisherman in the documentary realized he wasn't dealing with normal fish intelligence from watching how they reacted and couldn't do it anymore.

I dont blame her. She wanted herself some juicy chicken instead of boring fish fingers every day
If you're curious about them and see this, look up how orcas essentially have cultures: they travel in tribes and various tribes develop their own variation of language and different hunting strategies, which they don't just use because it comes naturally, but they teach to their young and so on.
You even see much smaller tribes made up of outcasts or other types which, as a result of being disconnected, use far more basic language and signaling.
