  • I did a comparison about the quality dropping on yellowjacket refrigerant coupling fittings so I purchased these master, cool fittings and found out the same thing quality of our companies. Refrigerant fittings is definitely degrading like cheap Ebay or Timu or Alibaba Chinese knock off garbage tools.
Apparently, yellow jacket and Master cool wants to copy what everybody else is doing

I just paid good chunk of money for CPS ones - same thing. Especially high side one is really crunchy.
You can’t get good stuff these days, even if you pay more money.
Actually my Harbor Freight ones are the best set out of 4.
Yes they are wobbly - but at least the move smoothly.

Yeah i had mastercool low side leak under vacuum only. Under + pressure it would push away from the fitting and be okay.

I threw my mastercools in the core bin after I chased a "leak" on a problem car already, gauges were leaking. I really like the HF gauges, like another already said.

I’ve noticed this a while ago with Yellow Jacket. Since then I just buy the cheap ones and keep a few extras on hand. If I’m feeling it I’ll swap a o ring.

I have an Imperial manifold with manual couplers from some time in 2000s and a CPS unit from 2023. Got the CPS because it comes with a tee in the middle and all three hoses have shut-offs, so with an extra hose it functions as a 4-valve. Anyway, the couplers on the Imperial feel smoother AND are better designed. Namely, they are made so the pin pushing on the valve core does not rotate as you turn the wheel.

@@xandervk2371 yes I had to CPS. I know what you’re talking about. All the bell valves on their hoses started leaking.
One of the hoses itself started leaking after a few months
The internal gasket for stopping refrigerant flow started bypassing between refrigerant and vacuum in the gauge manifold . On analog gauge stuck in one position, kept getting stuck.

everything is going to "garbage" quality now since the covid crisis...I am shocked at how some of these parts make it past the quality inspectors...we just got in a brand new OEM AC Delco $700 alternator with the pulley pressed on crooked and bent the shaft.. I mean how did they not see this? Tubes of windshield glue are coming in 1/2 full, some 75% full, some 100% full.... so so so many bad parts right out of the box... total garbage and a gamble with new...I'd rather go used OEM 2019 parts and older bx they were made much better...

That's a shame that the quality is getting so bad with what was once trusted names in the industry. Most of these American companies are getting their products made in China or elsewhere in Asia. I just bought a Robinair vacuum pump knowing that they built their reputation on vacuum pumps primarily and to find out it's made in China. It looks of good quality and definitely does the job but I was really disappointed to learn it was made in China. I should have investigated that before buying, but as far as I know, all brands are probably being made there nowadays.

@@SkillSavvyDIY A decade back I was in China at an air conditioning products sourcing that is geared towards distributors and exporters to other countries. so this means you were purchasing everything by the shipping container load.
Those air vacuum pumps are $35 .
And depending what country you’re from and what company you own, you have the Chinese supplier put your label and color scheme on your pump and claim that it is yours and sell it in your country .
Analog refrigerant manifolds were $3.95 then shipped over to the United States and sold anywhere from $65-$100
Remember the old original digital gauges with individual digital gauge heads like the Robinair?
Those were $18. Do you have your companies corporations color scheme and label thrown onto them shipped to your country and sold them for a few hundred dollars . 💸
I visited a couple of the tables with the manufactures of pressure switches. They made pressure switches for air-conditioning temperature sensors for coolant and AC and when speaking to them about pricing. .
They gave me a reference like a Porsche that would sell for anywhere from $90-$230
But all their switches and pressure temperature sensors or anywhere from $.25 they’re most expensive was $2.30. He told me that would be sold and marked a few thousand times when it got to United States. .

Yellow jacket or Parker Hanafin preferred.. Mastercool overseas has only a small range and does not service there products very well at all . Many of these smaller companies are imported by the large part companies like NAPA overseas operations . Napa is only interested in profit and can really destroy a brands reputation . @@myshots101 look for the leaks first you have to locate Why it lost the refrigerant in the first place
Miata’s were pretty common for having leaks at the condenser
If you do find you have a leaking condenser upgrade, the condenser to a newer style, parallel, flow, micro channel
This will give you a better retrofit option when you switch over to 134 refrigerant
Change the receiver dryer that has the material for keeping the system clean and dry
Our 12 is still available. You just have to be willing to pay the price and hope that it is real.
There was a lot of fake knock off, pretend our 12 cans that were filled with 134 refrigerant or propane or other gas
I cannot remember if that vehicle had a fluid driven thermal fan clutch on the front of the engine
At that age, if it does have a mechanical fan attached to the engine replace the fan clutch this will give you 100% factory airflow movement because they go out of calibration over the years and mileage do not flow as much air and go as they did when they were brand new
Your condenser needs all the airflow when you stopped at a light or in very slow moving traffic
