Just curious how you sleep and if you rely solely on the AIS alerting you to ships (and what about all the boats without is transmitters)? thanks. great video!
pgreenx Thanks for your interest. I set a 30 minute timer to sleep and try to get 4-6 hours total sleep time every 24 hours. This race was very windy and it was harder to sleep this time. I rely on AIS as all commercial ships have AIS transponders. I did not encounter any ships during the trip other than close to shore (30 nm). I have radar as well but did not use it during this trip.
Dirk Husselman what do they allow for steering ? I remember tying the sheet for the blade staysail to the tiller when I was on watch and falling asleep at the helm so if it started to round up if i dozed the luff would release the tiller and i could grab it before it rounded up too high
Yes I used an under deck Raymarine X10 autopilot with linear drive. I also had a spare on board. The autopilot can steer compass course, wind angle, or track based on waypoint.
Very nice sailing. Thanks for sharing.
Nicely done!
bro i cant believe how you smoked past Merlin while reefing the main there man, most impressive, respect, aloha
I just bumped into your video. Nicely done and great camera. Was that a go pro or something more exotic.

Did you use any self-steering? An autopilot?
