ok...I am a architectural photographer who recently relocated to New England. Since arriving here I have fallen in love with quilts and decided to turn to UA-cam to try to learn some good basics because I have zero background with sewing. I became a little discouraged watching one video after the other with quilters using elaborate hi-tech specialty sewing machines costing several thousand dollars and then...hallelujah! Here is a video with Gwen using a simple antique machine to produce the exact style and technique I was searching for to learn! Her work was amazing and her teaching style was so easy to understand. I am sad to hear she has passed but what a great legacy she left behind! Thank you for posting this tutorial on binding. I am going to go over to my little $200 Singer and have at it!
I really hope quilting brings you the joy it’s bought me, when we are able to be more out and about you will make great quilt friends so please join a group they make the greatest friends happy quilting I have Gwens machine born the same years as me lol best wishes Chris xx

@@Serenitees hi my lovely little singer is a featherweight 222 or 221 you can still get them second hand I think it’s the 221 that has the sewing bed that comes off which is desirable but harder to find. they have little to go wrong on them and are great when we can go to class again because they are easier to carry and everyone goes oh they are so cute. they only do a straight stitch, no zigzag, if I didn’t have much money I would always go with a second hand machine from a reliable shop. Mickey's work is just fantastic! What a true PIONEER artist! Her personality was so friendly patient kind and sharing! A great legacy she left. I love her comment that "Art makes people happy." It shows how her spirit was as a people pleaser and in that way she had a helpful healing component instead of a self centered type of person with her art.
So grateful for the influence that Gwen has on the industry. She will be missed.

Thank you for posting this as a free show. I'm a member but it is so special to see Gwen Marston again. I'm digging out my Gwen Marston books and enjoying her work today. Rest in peace, Gwen.

That is exactly how my Grandma taught me....doing the amish binding technique and I still do it still today...

just after 39 minutes is the intro to Gwen; her binding instructios are helpful and I love her quilts - but surprisingly, i liked the painted fabric better than I thought I would. both artists are great!

Beautiful fabrics! Since this isn't rubable does that mean it's more for wall quilts than bed quilts? I wouldn't want the paint to come off from laying on the bed.

Love this fabric paint. Tried yrs ago using Dye-na-Flow unsuccessfully but anxious to try again. Your instructions are excellent. Do you use the transparent or opaque Pebeo? Is the contact paper added on top of the foam board or is that the actual coating that foam board has?

Are you using cotton fabric? It did not sound like cotton when you painted it.
