- Charcoal Canister Replacement: 10 to 30 minutes
In trying to clear the P1443 error code I replaced the evaporator system charcoal canister in a 2001 Subaru Outback. Very easy process. At the end of the video I cut one open so you could see what is inside. Did not clear the code and not 100% sure it was bad. - Авто та транспорт
Great video! Helped out a lot in diagnosing the check-engine light problem with my 2006 Impreza 2.5i. Turned out I'd smashed the charcoal canister on a rock at some point this fall. Thanks!
BigMtnForever Good to read.
Thanks for the video. Fixed my CEL and fueling issue on my 05 STi with a new canister.
SquashPile Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
+SquashPile can you please expand on fueling issue? 99 legacy, swapped out rusted filler neck and shut valve, now car only takes about a half gallon before pump shuts off, and then must be "spoon fed" fuel.
Rob, this was a great and informative video brother. Thank you!
You are welcome.
I had a P1449 engine code on my 2018 Outback 3.6R Limited and it was actually the vapor canister filter, not the vapor canister that was the issue. Located above the rear differential, $30 from the dealer parts store. It was full of water from driving through a flooded road.
Yikes
You have to drive 100 miles before some codes will reset.
ok
Ever think of using a scan tool and clearing the code that is stored in the ECU? After you replaced the canister and before you took the car for a test drive with the new canister in the car. Then see if the cel light came back on with the same code.
Wow!
So what did you do to determine the cause of it not working agter nrw valve and canaster were replaced?
🤷🏾♂️ I don't remember
great video. just curious to know what the new canister weighs in at and did you clear the codes?
I don't remember
Yup my friend took his impreza over with the same code and we suspect its the valve and possibly the canister too.
ouch
I've got an 06 OBXT limited 5spd and my fuel economy is terrible (280-300 miles per tank vs 340-350) after replacing the fuel filter & fuel level sending unit, plugs filter, etc. Could a contaminated evap canister be the cause of my issue?

Thank you sir. Cheers from Roswell
Nice, you are welcome.
I have a 2010 subaru impreza and can not find the charcoal canister. Do you know where it is on my car? its not out in the open under the car in this location. Please advise. thank you
Could be on top of the tank. You should Google it.
You can also find a parts diagram to see where it is.
Thank you sir. I was curious my self what’s inside that canister. God bless.
I was laughing too.
Thanks for watching
Did you weigh the new canister...would have been curios to know if it actually weighed lighter?
i don't remember
Thank you!
You're welcome!
While I was fixing my Subaru it rolled over my femur and shattered it. I'm currently fading in and out of consciousness. Should this be a cause for concern?
Yes, please call 911.
Oh come on man ...just walk it off
1200 mg Ibuprofen and drink water
So what was the main problem at the end of this and did the code go away
No, it still has the code. If it were mine, I would have replaced the purge valve, even though the code points to other issues.
Robert DIY Ok so I have a 2004 outback subaru and it has the code and I've replaced all things you replaced and code is still on and also when pumping gas it spits it back out could you help
You replaced the canister?
I have a 99 vw jetta 2.8 and when i plug in the hose on the back of the upper intake manifold that goes to the leak detection pump the car just stalls out for some reason?
mikeyd19841 Do you have a CEL? There is likely some other issue that is causing the car to fail to adjust to proper vacuum.
No cel at all! I got the car like 2 onths ago and i am trying t figure out why when i plug that vacuum hose in the car stalls out! I noticed it was not connected when i got the vehicle. I am having other weird issues like the cel does not illuminate at all not matter what and the abs light dont work and cruise light dont work at all. I tested fuse 43 and i get like 14 volts and i dont know if that is too high or not! I think the ecu might be bad and i have a spare but i dont have VAGCOM to switch the ecu! I have no clue what is going on. I took the catalytic converter off and the engine is not shaking like it was so that was bad also. I have a 99 vw jetta vr6 2.8 AFP
Have you scanned the OBD2 SYSTEM to see if any codes are in there?
Great video!
Thanks for watching.
Nice video.
Thanks!
Very 👍 good job I enjoyed this video
Thank you very much!
Kyle likes 50 cents
really?
I can't seem to find the canister anywhere
Ouch
nice job!
Thanks!
Mine is the exact car but codes p0113 and p0442
Ouch
@@RobertDIY have you had those codes before?
Whats inside is Activated carbon. Thats Charcoal. If you can get it out you can bake it and reactivate it. Then Put it back in and seal it up? How? I dont know but thats not worth a $100 and better for the environment to not have the carbon foot print of a new unit.
Interesting.
I'd be very concerned about the fumes baked off the canister! Do not do this in your oven. Safer way is to blow hot air thru it to dry it out if it's soaked. BTW, these canisters are several hundred dollars now. $100 was a bargain, especially from a dealer parts counter.
107$
Ok
