This theme is more beautiful than schindlers list main theme as it has stuck with me for 20 years. Absolutely no words describe the masterpiece this score represents. This is #1 on my top themes list for a reason.
Although it evokes a different emotion, the only one I think compares is the theme to Anne of Green Gables, but you're right, this is an unmatched masterpiece, such sorrow, such melancholy...
I was a teenager when i read the book and my Daddy took me to the movie at the theater. I cried so hard that Daddy had to hold and lead me to the car and let my rest on the back bumper and cry my heart out. Many people stopped and asked if i was ok.. I was not for quite a few minutes. Finally my Daddy took me home and the story behind the movie has stayed with me until this day, i'm 59 now and it will stay with me until i die. I still cry every time i hear this music or watch the movies. I don't know how many of you know the Elton John song "Sorry seems to be the hardest word" but it reminds me of this theme music from the movie. Listen and decide yourself.. The worst thing about all of this is that it is 100% true. We will never know all the horrible things that happened because even today, people deny this ever happened at all. A lot of documents and other evidence of this horrible time in history have been destroyed. Diary of Anne Franke is another true example of what happened there so many years ago. I cried reading the book and watching that movie too. . Thank you for posting this and God Bless you ALL
I can't stop listening to it, it enchanted me with it's sadness, melancholy, a theme from a movie about the darkest time in history... each time brings tears to my eyes with it's sad beauty
***** It is very beautiful and melancholy. There are slight variations from the soundtrack that I can post, but this is the most complete version of this song. You can visit video2mp3.net to turn this video into an mp3 and have it on your mp3 device. I can post the other two variations if you like but they are short and not as emotive as this one.
Christopher Johnson Thank you so much for your reply... I thought maybe there is a version that doesn't stop so abruptly... it is such a rare recording, all I could find was a vinyl record of it. I will try to download the MP3, music like this gives me the goosebumps, have to see you your posts, maybe you have more of similar beauty..
I talked to Tedd Smith about this score several years ago. It was supposed to be up for an Oscar, but another studio pressured the committee to include a score from one of THEIR films rather than this independent film. So, no Oscar for Tedd. This was a great score. The scene where everyone is running to hide from the Nazis is a great pizzicato string cue!
Wow, this is very interesting background that I didn't know. I wonder how it couldn't have been nominated for an oscar, but there's always politics involved and this was kind of an independent film even for its time. It's okay though, it's cherished by those who remember. I had to rip this from the vinyl record in order to get a digital copy of it, I couldn't find it anywere on itunes or amazon or even on CD I don't think.
Yeah, I had to actually buy the vinyl record of this, then have someone that specializes in digitizing analogue music convert the vinyl to mp3 format and then upload it here. That was the only way I could find it!
+kurt Valentin Rodriguez My pleasure! Yes, the soundtrack and music stands alone as a masterpiece. Paired with the melancholy and beauty of the Hiding Place story, it's nearly unbearable.
Christopher Johnson Thank you Christopher, I already have the film in favorites and will watch it tonight, that is where I heard this music for the first time, it left me breathless...
Yeah, have the kleenex ready! I couldn't find this music anywhere (iTunes, google, amazon, etc.) but I was able to find a record of it. I ordered the record and had it digitally recorded and uploaded it for the world :) Glad you enjoy!
Christopher Johnson There is music sometimes that just makes the heart skip a beat and the soul get deeper every time we hear it... are you familiar with music of Zbigniew Preisner or Wojciech Kilar? Some of it makes me feel this way, they both compose/composed for the films (B. Stoker's Drakula, Portrait of a Lady, When a man loves a woman, 3 Colors, Double Life of Veronigue, The Leper and so much more).... I enjoy it more than you know... it's not music for the masses but for those who appreciate it it's a treasure...
Christopher, I am currently preparing to record this theme & upload it to my channel. Just thought I would let you know if you were interested in a piano version of the song.
Well I don't own it, so carry on. It's so beautiful it should be shared with as many as possible. It wasn't available in any digital format I could find, not mp3, not itunes, not even a cd existed. I had to order the original soundtrack record and have recorded into digital format then I uploaded it. There's a nice young lady that plays a solo version on the violin on youtube that you should check out as well, it might help in playing it by ear. Plus the entire movie is posted here on youtube, and you should watch that as well to get the whole feel of the piece as well as the various versions that appear in the film. There's actually a much darker stripped down version as well, but this is the main theme.
Well done man, don't worry about the mistakes, I envy your initiative and ability. The piano is my favorite instrument due to its genre versatility, and you really did the mood of this piece justice!
I’m not sure whether there are any living direct descendants of Casper and his wife. But I do know this.. after her release, corrie never worked on another watch in Tenboom Watches again
I'm sure you can use it, but it is probably copyrighted, although I could not find any modern digital music retailer that had it, nor could I find it on CD, I had to convert it from a record from the 70s.

I saw this movie in middle school and it changed my life forever

True Christians who stood by God's people when other "Christians" chose to " submit to authority "...
God, bless the Dutch nation for their sake.
Watched the movie last year in my 9th grade English class, it was a great movie.
Only God the true Lord can comfort us
Amen!
Never forget 😔
If anyone knows where to find written sheet music for this I would love to hear from them. I have been looking for it for years

Edward Russell "Tedd" Smith the composer was the pianist of the Billy Graham crusades for nearly 5 years.
Sadly I can’t find this masterpiece on spotify!!! 😢

@@cmjcj2ktn Unfortunately this magnificent composer is not so known 😪
Wow insane you were searching for this on Spotify as I just now was and ended up here lol
@@kevinshull7637 Well I'm glad people are able to find this here at least, that's why I posted it!
+kurt Valentin Rodriguez thanks for uploading!

thanx for sharing this
Corrie was a huge Bach and Beethoven fan. Could this have been one of their songs ?
I just heard this on BBN Radio and I knew it was from the Hiding Place. Does this piece have a name?
Hannah Townsend I don't believe so, I think it is just the theme from the film, but I could be wrong.

Beautiful music describing how God's people saved God's people during the nazi reign of terror. Thank You Lord Jesus!
Do you have a full, longer complete version?
***** Also, I believe the full movie is on youtube if you want to watch it.
Christopher Johnson Thank you Christopher, I already have the film in favorites and will watch it tonight, that is where I heard this music for the first time, it left me breathless...

I haven't heard of those, but I'll try them out. I love melancholy, emotional music, and soundtracks are often very good at that!
What is the name of this song?
Christopher, I am currently preparing to record this theme & upload it to my channel. Just thought I would let you know if you were interested in a piano version of the song.
Like your own version or this version?
This version. I'm using it as my source for learning it by ear on piano.

Is there any Ten Boom descendants?
A few... many of them died of sickness and in death camps... I can't remember off of the top of my head
I’m not sure whether there are any living direct descendants of Casper and his wife. But I do know this.. after her release, corrie never worked on another watch in Tenboom Watches again
lol im doin this for school
Is this copyrighted? could i use this in a project?
I'm sure you can use it, but it is probably copyrighted, although I could not find any modern digital music retailer that had it, nor could I find it on CD, I had to convert it from a record from the 70s.
thank you!
Did you ever find the copyright on the music? I would love to use it for a program that I use when I portray Corrie Ten Boom as an 85 year old woman
