Homer writing the letter to Lisa right before putting the Crayon back in his Brain. The whole episode where Grandpa's girlfriend dies and he feels alone without her. The first episode where Homer finds out his mom is alive and then she has to go on the run.. Maggie's First Word. The birth of Maggie and finding out why there aren't any pictures of Maggie around.
for me the saddest part was when lisa found out that marge was a straight A student but ended up as a housewife after she met homer-the pain in marges eyes when she found out that her own daughter wants to be nothing like her broke my heart
The saddest part was when Ned was sitting at his chair (wearing a black armband), thinking of Edna when Nelson appears at his window "Ha - ha.......(sadly)I miss her too".
I am just wondering what does the black armband mean? Or does it mean anything im sorry i dont know... I wasnt told and i never really thought about it before... Can someone please explain. Thanks!
That episode is one of the most emotional because it has one of the most ugly cry moments (Bea's death) as well as one of the most happy cry moments (Grampa spending his money)
This contained one of the first guest star appearances in the series with the girlfriend being played by Audrey Meadows of THE HONEYMOONERS fame! 🇵🇷🇺🇸😎
@@storm9685 I thought the ending of that episode was beautiful, because Grampa gets the cartoon channel and the old people are laughing, he gets the restaurant called the Beatrice Simmons dining hall, I just found it heartbreaking and I cried.
Honorary Mention for me: Bart the Mother. When Bart tries to flee with his lizards that the whole town wants to kill. He is confronted by Marge and Bart breaks down and says "Everyone thinks they are monsters, but I raised them and I love them. I know it's hard to understand..." And Marge replies "Not as hard as you think." And she lets him flee, but he returns and kisses her before he finally runs off. I thought that was so sweet. It is an easy parallel to Bart. Everyone sees him as a lost cause, but Marge sees with a mother's heart. It makes me tear up every time lol
I might be so bold to say this but Bart is misunderstood, he is a good boy with bad ideas and very stupid but he has done a lot of good things too, plus Millhouse is actually a bad influence on him, it said that on the website.
As stupid as Homer is and for all his failings in life, he remains a loving husband and devoted family man. That it his redeeming quality. He never cheats on Marge and he's always willing to make sacrifices for his kids.
@Eli Hauser be honest, many parents would choke their kids if they could get away with it and there where no laws against it. It's really not much different than spanking your child. It's physical abuse.
For me, the episode "Bart gets an 'F'" gets a spot. As a high school repeat student myself, I could relate to how Bart felt when he cried that he tried giving his everything during his final exam but still end up failing. To late bloomers like myself, we learn how to be more resilient than others
yes. absolutely love this episode. Especially relatable to those with loving siblings whom we have had disagreements with from time to time. We get upset but are able to remember no matter what how much we truly care for them.
One episode that (surprisingly) packed an emotional wallop for me was the one in which Homer's bartender, Moe, started a romantic relationship with a "little person." She broke up with him because she felt he was insensitive about her height. The sad irony was, he was VERY sensitive about her height, and had gone out of his way to avoid hurting her feelings even slightly. When SHE started making fun of her height, he naturally felt the ice had been broken. Then he planned to salvage his relationship with her by undergoing surgery to become a little person himself, but this offended her even more. In the end, Moe is supposed to feel grateful that he got the chance to temporarily have a girlfriend at all...as if that's supposed to ease the pain of breaking up with someone you love.
I don't think that's the point. The point was that Moe needed to look past his girlfriend's physical attributes and love her for who she was, and that if he had he'd be loved for himself in turn.
Some honorable mentions that come to mind: “Like Father Like Clown” - the episode where Krusty meets his father. “Marge Be Not Proud” - Bart steals the video game Bonestorm around Christmas time. The scene where he’s trying to surprise the family with a photograph he had taken on his own is the best part! “Summer of 4” - the Simpsons rent a summer beach house and vacation there. Bart tries to embarrass Lisa in front of her new friends, feels guilty, and makes it up to her in a great way. “Home Sweet Homediddly-Dum-Doodily” - Bart, Lisa, and Maggie get adopted by the Flanders. Love reading the other comments and remembering old Simpsons episodes!
“Your my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when sky’s are grey, but you don’t know dear how munch I love you. Please don’t take my sunshine away”- Marge Simpson
The one where Marge buys herself a really nice dress and then changes it up to fit in with the fancy moms. The last time when she was adjusting it she got upset at Lisa and then ended up ruining the dress. Then when they were all going to the party she saw how sad the rest of her family was and then ended up not going because her family's happiness was more important. I never understood this episode until I became a mom but it hits me so hard.
For me it's when Homer and Lisa go in sensory deprivation tanks and Lisa sees things from her dad's perspective, and how much he was trying to connect with her. That episode helped me reevaluate my relationship with my own dad, who I often struggled to understand or bond with as a child.
One Simpsons episode I think is massively overlooked is the season 3 episode Separate Vocations in which Bart and Lisa take the school’s personality test to see which career path is best suited for them and the results basically have them in reversed roles for the episode. Now while it is great to see Bart find his way to potentially becoming a Police Officer with a possible future, it is devastating to see Lisa give in to apathy and self destruction after she’s told that she would only function as a homemaker, rendering all her talent, intellect and nonconformity meaningless. I’m not gonna say what Bart does for Lisa at the end of that episode, but I’ll just say it truly leaves me baffled that this episode doesn’t get talked about more
When Lisa needed a new reed for her saxophone for a school public presentation. Homer was resonsible of getting it and instead of going and get it immediately he chooses to go for a beer at Moe's...when he finally gets to the school Lisa is playing a broken sax that sounds horrible and Skinner tries to get her off the stage as fast as possible (actually that whole episde is sad, Homer buying Lisa's love with a horse and working a second job to keep the horse and Lisa giving up the horse before the two jobs kill Homer)
I remember watching the episode "And Maggie Makes Three" and crying while staring at the plaque with pictures of Maggie covering up the message "don't forget you're here forever" and making it say "do it for her". I could never comprehend what it must feel like to go back to a job you hate to support a child that wasn't planned. It is so unfortunate for Homer to be in that situation but to see that message "do it for her" shows that he does but his kids before himself. He's just misunderstood because of his unstable childhood.
Two of the very first times I cried to television, in general, are missing: These are: 1) The reminiscing of Lisa and Bart's love for each other over the years as brother and sister at the end of the hockey game in "Lisa on Ice"
No "Old Money"??? Why??? That episode truly hit me hard. Bea's death was devastating and also ends in such a beautiful way with a dining hall in her memorial for the elders so they have at least a proper treatment in their last days.
MAUD: Congratulations on your new job, Homer. HOMER: New job?? Marge is pregnant!! *girlish shrill* *gaah!* *runs up stairs*. BART(present): Geez! Homer, you took that news like a little girl. Haha!! I loved that reaction.
Holy cow I just looked at that list homer made in the blowfish episode - seeing the 'make a video tape for Maggie' absolutely crushed me, as well as 'make peace with dad'. Homer has so much heart.
It's hard to say what the saddest is because there are so many moments of The Simpsons, but one that always kind of struck me was when Homer wrote Lisa a letter stating how he had the best time with her being smart and reading books and how much he will always love her when he had to put the crayon back in his brain to make him stupid again because being smart was costing him. And it was for the best for him but he knew it would devastate Lisa.
The episode where Lisa loves her teacher always gets me going. I'll always watch that episode and I'll always wipe away the tears at the end. That's what I consider a great Simpsons episode
All things considered, it was really nice of Mr. Burns to let Homer have his job back. Sure, he put that plaque up, but Homer assaulted him, humiliated him, AND destroyed company property (literally burning a bridge). If he really wanted Homer to suffer, he would've shooed him away.
Lisa on ice. When Bart and Lisa play hockey against each other and they have flashbacks of when they were young. They suddenly stopped playing and skated on the ice together.
the most touching moment to me is from Lisa on ice when Bart and Lisa remember something sweet that the other one did for each other when they were younger and then they hug each other. while it might not be the most sad moment it's still touching to see
Scenes from the class struggle in Springfield... the part when the sewing machine ruins Marge's dress... saddest moment for me. The hopelessness and dejection in her voice and on her face was so heartbreaking.
Man, the voice acting was fantastic. Marge's voice when she finds Homer slumped over in the couch (blowfish episode), and all she can sadly and weakly say is "Homer, Homer". 😢
One of my favorites is titled, "Old Money." Grandpa Simpson's friend Bea passes away leaving him her fortune. Despite spending some of the money on himself, he doesn't find any fulfillment, so he decides to use it to help others. He goes gambling and increases the fortune, but then sees his fellow residents at the retirement home living miserably. So he spends the money renovating the home, culminating in a lovely dining hall named in Bea's memory. It concludes when Grandpa opens the doors, inviting the residents in saying, "C'mon in! Dignity's on me, friends!"
Bart: "So why no pictures?" Homer: "Oh there are pictures, I keep them where I need the most cheering up." (Maggie Makes Three) I love that scene, definitely one of the best endings along with, Maggies first word Mona leaving in the van
Fun Fact: IN the episode "Smart and Smarter" Marge writes on a piece of paper "You are Lisa Simpson" when Lisa is upset that Maggie has a higher IQ than Lisa but then Lisa goes on to say she already has one of those showing a frame with a note with the same words on it and a picture of Mr.BurgStrom so basically Lisa never forgot about Mr.BurgStrom
The moment that always gets me is the Valentines episode where they show Ralph giving everyone in his class a valentine, they all shake out their bags producing dozens of valentines, then you see Ralph, shaking his bag, then sadly looking in it to the realization that no one has given him even one valentine. Even a friend Valentine! He starts to cry and buries his head to hide his tears at being the only one singled out so harshly. Lisa erases her name from one of her cards and gives it to Ralph. Unfortunately he reacts by falling desperately for her. Ralph is more then a little dim, it's true, but he is a sweet kid who never hurt anyone, and it makes me cry when he cries in this episode
My lachrymose moments of "The Simpsons": 1. The death of Maude Flanders. 2. Bea Simmons passes at the senior center. 3. Lisa's sub,Mr. Bergstrom leaves Springfield. 4. Milhouse Van Houten's romance to Samantha Stankey broken up. (Bart was responsible.) 5. Bart breaking up with Greta Wolfcastle. 6. Bart decapitating the statue of Jebediah Springfield. 7. Marge kicking Homer out of the house after he was seen in a picture of him dancing with Princess Kashmir. (Bart took the picture.) 8. Milhouse's parents choosing to divorce without telling him about it (they subsequently remarried). 9. Homer's mom is alive, yet she was gone for a long time. (She subsequently died) 10. The first time Homer was fired from SNPP, and it ironically happened when Bart was on a field trip.
How comes that nobody mention that bart is a chemie genius, but he is mistreated from his father und ignort by his family? Actually the whole family is a tragedy: Homer is a genius but he has a pen in his brain Bart is a chemistry genius Lisa is an all round genius Magie... she can comunicate with animals if only half of Homers grandpas stories are true than he is a war hero and an explorer like indiana johns Homers grandmother was something too... And Marge was an all round genius like lisa but tosed it away for homer... That is truly sad
The saddest moment in The Simpsons was in the episode 'Hom-r' when it turns out the only reason Homer is an idiot is because there's a crayon in his brain. He has the crayon removed and becomes much smarter and hangs out more with his daughter, Lisa. After realizing he's too smart for everyone around him, he has the crayon put back in after writing Lisa a letter about how becoming smart made him realize how great she was. That episode always gets me
"remember, you have a mother and she's truly proud of you" as she runs off only days after reuniting with her son and finally giving him something he has been missing his entire life... if that doesn't draw at least half a tear out, i don't know what will
Those final "goodbyes" from One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish is just... it means something else if you've gone through the pain of losing someone close. Life is finite, you only have a certain amount of time on this planet, and to see something like the end of that time represented is scary and saddening, even in a cartoon. If you've gone through those goodbyes with someone else, then you'll cry near instantly.
#7 is me and my wife, so this did hit home for me. At the moments when I feel at my lowest and have no more confidence in myself, she's there to comfort and strengthen me amid my vulnerability, instead of deride me or think lesser of me.

Even the treehouse of horror episodes aren't that good anymore
Peter Barron The Mrs.K one is from a newer season and not all the new seasons suck.
I am still a fan of "The Simpsons". Never stopped watching.
Peter Barron the pie one was amazing
There was a newer episode where a whale ends up on Springfield beach and despite Lisa’s best effort, the whale passes away. It’s very sad
The saddest part was when Ned was sitting at his chair (wearing a black armband), thinking of Edna when Nelson appears at his window "Ha - ha.......(sadly)I miss her too".
I agree 😭😔
Yeah R. I. P. Marcia (aka. Edna Krabbappel) we miss you... 😔 😢
I am just wondering what does the black armband mean? Or does it mean anything im sorry i dont know... I wasnt told and i never really thought about it before... Can someone please explain. Thanks!
When Grandpa Simpson's girlfriend died....that hit hard.
That episode is one of the most emotional because it has one of the most ugly cry moments (Bea's death) as well as one of the most happy cry moments (Grampa spending his money)
I think the most powerful scene is when grandpa's girlfriend dies and he looks at his hands that scene breaks me!
@@lusyhognaston3777 ........................and the cherry on top is when he says "Hospitality's on me" (or something like that).
I remember that episode a tear jerker for sure😢😢
What made that episode sadder is that it was Phil Hartman's final appearance.
As stupid as Homer is and for all his failings in life, he remains a loving husband and devoted family man. That it his redeeming quality. He never cheats on Marge and he's always willing to make sacrifices for his kids.
In the early seasons, yes. Homer Jr is one example of how he’s a bad father now.
Homer did cheat tho with Mindy at the end he pretended it was Marge.
ROOM 237, he never cheated with Mindy.
@@hm3drake99 watch that episode he's picturing Marge
@Eli Hauser be honest, many parents would choke their kids if they could get away with it and there where no laws against it.
It's really not much different than spanking your child. It's physical abuse.
When Homer says "Goodnight my little porkchop" to Maggie
Maggie's first word is even more heart wrenching when you learn that Homer wanted to be called Daddy, but none of the other kids called him that.
i love Simpsons especially when they predict stuff.
Wanna punch that guy with the glasses when I watch this video
well matt groening is from the future so hes already lived through it.
that or they arent predicting but rather MAKING the future
I love that they predicted Donald Trump would be president
Like there prediction of Disney merging with Fox.
When Bart sold his soul to Millhouse. When Lisa bought it back for him. I cry every time
That and (in my opinion)
Millhouse in that episode was a douchecanoe
sure you do
@@Matsu_Suzuki16 I agree. He totally was
@@jalliboy yeah. I do.
@@rororan0730 yep
For me, the episode "Bart gets an 'F'" gets a spot. As a high school repeat student myself, I could relate to how Bart felt when he cried that he tried giving his everything during his final exam but still end up failing. To late bloomers like myself, we learn how to be more resilient than others
Flanders: "Sure do miss that laugh"
Nelson: "Ha-Ha...I miss her too"
“Move over Jasper, I’ve got a date with an angel”.
“...Damn right you are, Abe”.
what about the ice hockey match between lisa and bart, when they reminisce at the count down of the final score point
And then hug on the ice
First time I cried to television, man. A good, long overdue cry, that was.
That was in my opinion the most heart-touching episode of whole series
yes. absolutely love this episode. Especially relatable to those with loving siblings whom we have had disagreements with from time to time. We get upset but are able to remember no matter what how much we truly care for them.
Moment of silence for all the yellow fellows that passed on
F
What about Apu
F for Homers hair
Jk I feel bad.
Some honorable mentions that come to mind:
“Like Father Like Clown” - the episode where Krusty meets his father.
"Like Father Like Clown" jacks me up every 👏 single 👏 time! 👏
That episode where the kids were adopted by the Flanders, I cry when Maggie goes back to Marge and she said "Oh Maggie, you're a Simpson again"
Lisa's Wedding. "They're my family, I LOVE them! And I don't think you understand that."
I’m not gonna say what Bart does for Lisa at the end of that episode, but I’ll just say it truly leaves me baffled that this episode doesn’t get talked about more
Yeah, I love it when Bart takes the fall so Lisa plays the sax for him during detention.
When Lisa needed a new reed for her saxophone for a school public presentation. Homer was resonsible of getting it and instead of going and get it immediately he chooses to go for a beer at Moe's...when he finally gets to the school Lisa is playing a broken sax that sounds horrible and Skinner tries to get her off the stage as fast as possible
(actually that whole episde is sad, Homer buying Lisa's love with a horse and working a second job to keep the horse and Lisa giving up the horse before the two jobs kill Homer)
I agree.
Aww Man U ruined the episode for me I was just watching 😕
- When Homer's mom leaves the first time
- Maggie's first word
- Homer's letter to Lisa after the crayon operation
I remember watching the episode "And Maggie Makes Three" and crying while staring at the plaque with pictures of Maggie covering up the message "don't forget you're here forever" and making it say "do it for her". I could never comprehend what it must feel like to go back to a job you hate to support a child that wasn't planned. It is so unfortunate for Homer to be in that situation but to see that message "do it for her" shows that he does but his kids before himself. He's just misunderstood because of his unstable childhood.
Two of the very first times I cried to television, in general, are missing: These are:
1) The reminiscing of Lisa and Bart's love for each other over the years as brother and sister at the end of the hockey game in "Lisa on Ice"
No "Old Money"??? Why??? That episode truly hit me hard. Bea's death was devastating and also ends in such a beautiful way with a dining hall in her memorial for the elders so they have at least a proper treatment in their last days.
Lol
When
:(((
that scene broke my heart too, poor Homer
MAUD: Congratulations on your new job, Homer. HOMER: New job?? Marge is pregnant!! *girlish shrill* *gaah!* *runs up stairs*. BART(present): Geez! Homer, you took that news like a little girl. Haha!! I loved that reaction.
Holy cow I just looked at that list homer made in the blowfish episode - seeing the 'make a video tape for Maggie' absolutely crushed me, as well as 'make peace with dad'. Homer has so much heart.
When Homer’s mother left it broke me because I don’t know what I would do without my mum
WAIT A MINUTE! Wheres bongo?! This is one of the most emotional episodes with the song "me and my arrow"!
In before someone quips that their saddest Simpsons moment is when the show stopped being funny at [x] season....

The one where lisa thinks bart doesnt love her anymore and he end up showing the mural in his bike garage
Homer's mom leaving made me cry so much. I lost my mom almost 10 years ago and that episode hit me really bad.
the most touching moment to me is from Lisa on ice when Bart and Lisa remember something sweet that the other one did for each other when they were younger and then they hug each other. while it might not be the most sad moment it's still touching to see
I cried in the episode where Bart cries because he fails his test
Scenes from the class struggle in Springfield... the part when the sewing machine ruins Marge's dress... saddest moment for me. The hopelessness and dejection in her voice and on her face was so heartbreaking.
Man, the voice acting was fantastic. Marge's voice when she finds Homer slumped over in the couch (blowfish episode), and all she can sadly and weakly say is "Homer, Homer". 😢
Do it for her 😭 , RIP mrs k 😔, Santa’s little helper 😢
*Do It For Her* always hits me 😥😭
when lisa see her friend whale die the next morning (this one broke my heart)
One of my favorites is titled, "Old Money." Grandpa Simpson's friend Bea passes away leaving him her fortune. Despite spending some of the money on himself, he doesn't find any fulfillment, so he decides to use it to help others. He goes gambling and increases the fortune, but then sees his fellow residents at the retirement home living miserably. So he spends the money renovating the home, culminating in a lovely dining hall named in Bea's memory. It concludes when Grandpa opens the doors, inviting the residents in saying, "C'mon in! Dignity's on me, friends!"
Okay, the bit where Homer and his mom say goodbye to each other, I started tearing up. And now I want to call my mom.
Bart: "So why no pictures?"
Homer: "Oh there are pictures, I keep them where I need the most cheering up."
(Maggie Makes Three)
I love that scene, definitely one of the best endings along with,
Maggies first word
Mona leaving in the van
Fun Fact: IN the episode "Smart and Smarter" Marge writes on a piece of paper "You are Lisa Simpson" when Lisa is upset that Maggie has a higher IQ than Lisa but then Lisa goes on to say she already has one of those showing a frame with a note with the same words on it and a picture of Mr.BurgStrom so basically Lisa never forgot about Mr.BurgStrom
To Cur With Love. The picture of Homer's childhood dog Bingo laying on his Itchy and Scratchy sweatshirt I lost it.
Bongo not bingo
The saddest episode was when Mr. Bernstrong left on the train and have Lisa the note that read, "You are Lisa Simpson"!!
Homer putting back the pencil in his nose to remain stupid because he feels bad for being smart and leaving a note to Lisa was pretty intense too...
My first episode was when bleeding gums Murphy past away. My next was lisa's substitute.
The ending of Mother Simpson was really sad and so was Lisa's Substitute especially when Lisa says goodbye to Mr. Bergstrom.
the bleeding gums one always got me, absolutely crippling scene D ' :
I still love the older episodes of the Simpsons
My lachrymose moments of "The Simpsons":
1. The death of Maude Flanders.
2. Bea Simmons passes at the senior center.
3. Lisa's sub,Mr. Bergstrom leaves Springfield.
4. Milhouse Van Houten's romance to Samantha Stankey broken up.
(Bart was responsible.)
5. Bart breaking up with Greta Wolfcastle.
6. Bart decapitating the statue of Jebediah Springfield.
7. Marge kicking Homer out of the house after he was
seen in a picture of him dancing with Princess Kashmir.
(Bart took the picture.)
8. Milhouse's parents choosing to divorce without telling him
about it (they subsequently remarried).
9. Homer's mom is alive, yet she was gone for a long time.
(She subsequently died)
10. The first time Homer was fired from SNPP, and it ironically happened when Bart was on a field trip.
How comes that nobody mention that bart is a chemie genius, but he is mistreated from his father und ignort by his family?
Actually the whole family is a tragedy:
Homer is a genius but he has a pen in his brain
Bart is a chemistry genius
Lisa is an all round genius
Magie... she can comunicate with animals
if only half of Homers grandpas stories are true than he is a war hero and an explorer like indiana johns
Homers grandmother was something too...
That episode always gets me
The moment bart tells lisa how everyone died was sad.
I got tissues if you need it
When Homer’s mother died I sped a tear.
“Mama, are you sleeping? Your sleeping with your eyes open? Mama?

Just found this channel. Great stuff. The episode that always hits me the hardest (besides do it for her, I mean c'mon that unbeatable.) Is Barthood. Like that shit messed me up. Maybe its just because I relate to hard. Bart and grandpa simpsons relationship is great, showing that homer wants to connect with bart but doesn't know how, Bart's resentment, the emotional resolution with lisa and bart at the end. Love it
When Homer finds his mother passed away, sitting on the chair next to fireplace. And he did not have a chance to say her "I FORGIVE YOU MUM". 😢
I remember as a kid thinking about how sad the Maggie speaks scene was but I didnt understand why it made me feel like that. Now as an adult, I understand it more and it honestly makes me tear up. Its a beautiful sadness that hits hard
Lets be honest homer's mother was the most saddest based on the last goodbye
Oh that's true so sad btw
It breaks our heart 🥺
Don't talk about Lisa's substitute, don't talk about Lisa's substitute teacher, don't talk about Lisa's- *talks about the teacher and the message he gave her* I'm not crying, you are. That message he gave her helped me realize who I am, and that I'm something.
The 2nd appearance by Homer's mom, that was more heart breaking.
The third was the saddest because she actually dies
Lisa’s sub made me cry. In 6th grade I was bullied and my teacher stood up for me. I loved her. She was the best sub I ever had. She cared about us and was proud of us. She was my senior year teacher and I nearly balled my eyes out when I saw her. She was there for me during my ED and bullying. She always made me smile and laugh. I never got to say goodbye my senior year because of COVID. I wanted t thank her so bad for caring about me and being there for me. I love her dearly and I wish she got to see me graduate
The saddest moment is when Bart sees how everyone dies
What really sucks about “One Fish Two Fish Blowfish Blue Fish” is that tetrodotoxin kills you in minutes which means Homer would’ve died before even arriving at the hospital. There is also no antidote and people who suffer tetrodotoxin poisoning are cursed to “Watch themselves die” because while it does paralyze them, it does not knock them unconscious which means they’re aware that they’re dying
