APRIL 2023 FIRMWARE UPDATE - the new firmware has made only a very minor change to SDR brightness, so our recommendations for SDR mode and brightness settings remain basically the same. For HDR, Gamer 2 mode has now been changed to be much cooler (~8900K) in an effort to cheat a higher peak brightness (~880 nits). Our recommendation for HDR has therefore changed - stick to HDR Gamer 1 mode for the better white point ~6500K, unless you specifically like a cooler image
@@tftcentral the only way I can seem to get the panel to work at 240hz on resolutions below native is to set scaling on gpu can you test to see if it increases input lag once you do this ?
That’s for the HDMI input. You’d normally leave it on v2.1 unless you had very specific problems with older HDMI devices like a dvd player or something that might require you to switch over to the other mode
Very helpful. Should be the standard video after testing panels, I always find it such a hit and miss method when doing it myself. This is a nice general direction you are pointing. Thanks.
@tftcentral , I just followed every settings on this video and it fixed the issues I was having !!! You’re a legend , It was user error on my end by only changing half of them 2 days ago . Thank you so much
just got this model a day ago and i must say, its well and good! i dont get the dim brightness that people are getting even in hdr with 100% brightness and game mode fps, its still bright enough for my eyes to see dark spots when playing games with dark portions. clarity and smoothness in fps games are also great and i don think its lacking at all.
Thank you guys for this. I just got this monitor last week I love it. I do have a few questions. What Nvidia desktop color settings are you using? Also what Windows HDR settings are you using?
I hope LG is sponsoring you @tftcentral !! Haha , Just spent 30 min reading comments & replies from you regarding this monitor . You have way more patience than I do . I feel bad for asking you the same Q’s everyone else was while you answered the corrected actions thousand times . thank you bro, You’re my HERO right now 🐐😎🤘🏼🍿
Appreciate this a whole lot. Im a complete noob so i have to ask. Would you advice using theese settings aswell if the primarly use is for daily work and movies on youtube aswell? And which one of the two would be the best for this use? Gamer1 or sRGB?
Yes these settings are suitable for all uses. Whether you use gamer 1 or sRGB mode really depends on how accurate you want it to be and your preference. SRGB would be more accurate as the content like that would be mastered in that colour space. But some people prefer the more vivid and saturated look of gamer 1, and aren’t necessarily doing anything colour critical etc. try them both and see what you prefer
@@tftcentral Hello again, i actually decided that i wanted this monitor. But now i found out that it have a fan and that it can be heard. I sit in a super quiet room and is very sensitive with any noise, do you know if the fan become silent if you lower than brightness as suggested in the video perhaps? I know thats the case with their 32" 4k ips i was looking at aswell. Thanks a lot!! :-)
The fan is very very quiet on these but I don’t believe it’s speed changes in any situation, at least not in my usage and testing. It just stays the same quiet level all the time
@@tftcentral Thanks a lot really appreciate your replies, maybe i should just try it out and if i find it annoying i can always return it. I actually found out the Asus PG27AQDM 27" Oled have a built in heatsink with makes it fanless and should have some other benefits aswell. Do you plan to make a similar video for this monitor at one point or do you think the settings would pretty much be the same besides brightness? 🙂 Really going back and forth between theese two monitors.
LG is coming out with a firmware update this month to “maximize the panel brightness during gaming”. Will do you a video on this when that happens and give updated settings if necessary? Another question. Lets say 150 nits at 60 contrast is 95 brightness. Then 150 nits at 70 contrast is 87 brightness. What would be the difference between these two visually and when it comes to burn in.
Thanks for this! Are there any specific Windows settings that need changing to get the best out of this? Also, I wish we had a better timeframe from Overclockers than just 'around April'. I am dying with anticipation for my pre-order! I want to believe before end of March is still a possability haha!
Hi Josh. Apart from ensuring correct res, colour depth and refresh in Windows, no real need to change anything. I prefer to make the changes to the monitor OSD if anything needs tweaking. You could also try our calibrated ICC profile for colour aware applications too :)
It depends if the game is really mastered in SDR gamut (sRGB) and you want accuracy, then the sRGB preset would be the best option. But I expect the more vivid colours from Gamer 1 would prob be preferable for many and look better. Try both though and see what you prefer. Some of the games, while not supporting HDR, may also be mastered for wider gamut colour space too
Opinion on the "vivid" preset? I feel it looks really good and haven't tried what you are doing in this video, I usually watch videos and game mainly, so would I benefit more from doing what you're doing in the video over the vivid preset overall?
Gamer 1 mode and sRGB mode are separate. But the manual modes are just additional preset modes. It’s easier to get to the target white point just using the custom mode and the RGB values provided. Might vary a little by unit sample but that worked nicely to correct the cool default setup. Note the blue channel is 44 in Gamer 1 and 48 in sRGB mode
If you leave Brightness at 100, don't turn Black Stabilizer up to 60. The highest you can go is 55 if you want true black. Not sure if this is just a panel deviation on my end, but you can test it yourself in a dark room - switch between 55 and 60 on a black image , it's not very noticeable but the blacks brighten up a tiny bit. You want the LEDs to stay off!
This must vary by panel or perhaps linked to other settings. On my sample there was no visible black difference all the way up to 60 black stabiliser, but an obvious jump to dark grey at 65. But that’s why we suggested checking yourself and ideally using the linked shadow detail tests in the description 😀
@@tftcentral On LG's LCDs if you're using the correct Full Range RGB signal then '50' is the correct neutral point and raising it higher will usually increase the black point. Might be different on their OLEDs, or the increase is so slight it's more difficult or impossible to spot (and potentially measure) and therefore of no consequence if there's only a slight increase to 'Black Stabilizer'. The brightness setting could potentially have an effect, even if that's just making the slightly raised black depth easier to spot. If you made your observations at your preferred brightness and Aesop at full brightness, that could explain the difference perhaps?
I've just re-tested it including at different brightness settings. From a normal viewing position, and even in a dark room, there was no perceivable difference between Black Stabilizer 50, 55 and 60 that I could see - including at 100% brightness. The black depth was still below the measurement limits of even our most capable black measurement device ( 60 that makes the most noticeable improvement to near black shadow detail, and assuming other panels are the same, i still think that's likely to be preferable to many. But as said, def one to test yourself and hone in on the best setting for your panel, eyes, lighting, preference etc

Man, I never thought replacing a monitor would be as challenging as it has been. I’m coming off an LG Ultragear 27L850-B that was purchased 2 years ago. I wanted something much better even though I found no fault with that monitor. First Picked up the Alienware AW3821DW. It’s a massive screen and I loved every bit of the size. However, it wasn’t as good as my $300 LG that I was giving up. Picture quality when watching UA-cam wasn’t as crisp. I then picked up the LG Ultragear 27GR95QE and was instantly displeased. The size for one was an instant let down given that I would be giving up a 38” wide monitor. That aside, the screen brightness was extremely dull. I knew this would be a thing, but boy, it’s hard to keep a $1k monitor and have to strain to see the image even in a dark room. That’s being returned today (06/23) Given the 38” Alienware ruined 27” monitors for me, I’m now awaiting shipment of the Alienware AW3423DWF. 34” is still wide enough and based on the various reviews (even though the other 2 monitors I purchased were also based on countless reviews), this Alienware AW3423DWF seems to be most people’s cream of the crop. We shall see come tomorrow. If there’s no difference between that and the Alienware Alienware AW3821DW, I will just keep the 38” as “Size DOES matter 😅”.
Question, just out of curiosity: Why did u turn screen move off? Isn't this supposed to shift the screen occasionally just 1-2 pixels around, which u wouldn't notice anyways? Seems to be useful thing to prevent potential burn-in...
Great video and very helpful, thanks. Just yesterday LG launched a program update that allows you to update the monitor firmware (OSC version 9.23) who knows if it will update the firmware again and with what results.
@TFTCentral nice Video! i got this monitor just 4 weeks ago, i use only PS5. What do you reccomend to use for best performance on Warzone? I also can't see good in dark area, because the dark area still remain dark also if i put 100 Black Stabilizer. I play with HDR off, and VRR off. Last thing to ask you: I notice a huge difference in one option that seems important, but nobody talked about it, this option is the "BLACK LEVEL", you can choose to put it high or low, what is the default one? and which one is better to use? High or Low? Please reply to my answers, thanks a lot.

Hi, excellent video congratulations, as soon as I have some free time I will change the monitor settings. at the moment the only thing that bothered me about the screen is the small writing that can't be read well, it looks blurry and three-dimensional... and I can't read well. absurd. I hope they fix it with an update because after spending all this money I feel cheated.
Best real settings: use sRGB mode for SDR, and make sure windows color management > advanced > device profile is set to sRGB 2.1 profile, and use windows color calibration to set the gamma with Lagom LCD site and set that ICC profile as default in color management > devices. Gamer 1 for HDR. Don't need to fiddle with any other settings, anything else isn't color accurate or gamma accurate. You need the windows 11 HDR calibration tool to make a color management profile for HDR, which you have to add after creating, to the color management > devices, then set the one under the "advanced" list to default after enabling HDR. You use winkey+alt+b to toggled HDR on and off. After that everything is perfectly calibrated for SDR and HDR and you only need to use the hotkey to enable or disable HDR, and it will automatically switch between the color management profiles for SDR and HDR. If you don't follow these steps, your display simply isn't going to be at its best out of the box. Not setting the sRGB 2.1 profile to default under the color management advanced tab for example, will not give you proper sRGB.

@@tftcentral oh that’s a bummer, thanks for answering! Hard to find any good advice for the newer Modell, tried some of your settings and looks quite good but would love to see some in depth settings video for that Modell since from my understanding has a newer slightly better panel.
So if I understood this video correctly, run "SRGB mode" for regular content day to day .. when gaming in HDR, enable HDR via Windows and then in the game and switch to "Game Mode 1"?
Disable HDR mode in windows and run in SDR mode. You can choose between running sRGB or wide gamut if you prefer the more saturated and vivid colour appearance
Hi ! I see that you answer to all comments even after 6 month after uploading the video :) I just have one question, i'm planning to buy a new PC and this screen particularly, and just wanted to know which cable should I use : HDMI or Displayport, and why ? I will buy a Sapphire NITRO+ 7900XTX, want to have the maximum capability of this screen and maybe use VRR. Thanks !
Sorry I am no longer answering questions on old videos. Just kidding 🤣 you could use either connection, both will support the native 1440p at 240Hz with VRR etc. personally I find it easier to use displayport, as there’s a suitable cable included in the box, and that leaves the HDMI inputs free for external devices, games consoles etc if needed
@@tftcentral Thanks for your answer 😁 Have you experienced fringing with the subpixel or screen flickering on this monitor ? I find this screen incredible, even if it should be glossy but not matte, but there are so many problems with the new OLED screens that I prefer to ask before buying.
@Victor_LG text fringing is quite noticeable on WOLED panels due to the sub pixel structure for office work but will be hard to notice in gaming and dynamic content. No issues with screen flickering although in some darker content with VRR on, OLED panels can show some flickering. Resolved easily by disabling VRR if it’s a problem
@@tftcentral Is there some solutions to solve text fringing ? Maybe step back from the screen, turn backgrounds black ? Or maybe future solution implemented directly in Windows like ClearType ?
@Victor_LG it’s harder to see from a more distant viewing position certainly. Maybe MS will address non standard layouts in a future clear type dev, but not heard anything official yet
Great video. Im currently using these settings for the lg 45gr95qe. Would it be similar? And by any chance would you good folks be able to run through the best settings for the LG 45gr95qe?
We don’t have any plans to review that screen I’m afraid so won’t be able to do a best settings guide sadly. Some of the general principles should be the same but the settings will be different so may not look right on that screen. Try them by all means but they’re designed for a different model here
On 50s you suggest to enable under Display Specific settings "Enable settings for the selected display model". This is causing flickering on a games (example Ghost Recon Breakpoint) at least for me
VRR/Gsync/Freesync isn't activated in games if you don't "check" that. You can confirm this w/ g-sync demo etc. Not every game is going to be perfect w/ it. Sea of Thieves is another game w/ a lot of flickering, especially at night.
I bought this monitor 3 months ago and had some interesting bugs. I turned it on one morning and noticed a bunch of horizontal lines going from black to grey running along the top third of the screen. Nothing i could do was fixing it and I was about to get it repaired, that is, until i did pixel and image cleaning 3 times in a row and upon the final one, the lines were gone! i'm not sure if this is a common issue but if it happens to any of you guys, just try to spam image/ pixel cleaning and hope for the best!
It will depend then if the benefit of increasing the near black detail is worth it or not. If black is still very deep and it’s barely noticeable you might find it’s worth it to improve shadow detail 😀
well I can help u guys :) switch hdr off ( not all games work well with hdr on) secondly - rgb range - set it to limited - huge difference Thank me later
What settings would you recommend for productivity? Working on web pages, text, spreadsheets, etc? Seems tab by tab the brightness varies, I just want it bright and clear like my G9, nothing to do with gaming at all. I bought it for the screen size, seriously considering returning it.
LG must have changed the brightness behaviour. Look for an option for uniform brightness or something like that. What you’re experiencing is likely the ABL. although I couldn’t really recommend an OLED screen like this for your uses tbh
Hi, I am not very good with technology, I purchased the oled monitor yesterday and I only play ps5 on it, I am struggling to figure out how to change it from 60hz to 120hz? There is no option for me to change it on the monitor? Can someone please help?
You don’t need to change anything on the monitor, you’d need to configure that on the console. You should be able to set it to 1440p resolution and 120Hz there
@@tftcentral Do you think it will only be the brightness that i might need to adjust after the update? Asking as im waiting for delivery of this screen. :-)
You might not even need to alter that as I think it might only be the HDR tone mapping and peak brightness in HDR mode that’s being tweaked. I’m going to try and confirm and will pin a comment here if there’s any change. For brightness setting I would just go with whatever you find comfortable anyway :)
Hi, I'm a bit new to messing with picture settings - why do you lower the brightness in the non-hdr modes? Edit: is it just to be more comfortable on the eyes while using Excel? I followed what you said but increased the brightness to 100% for Gamer1 in SDR because pictures and games look better bright, so then the uses will be: 1. General desktop work/browsing: SDR sRGB 2. Non-HDR games, watching videos/looking at pictures: SDR Gamer 1 (100% brightness) 3. HDR games: HDR Gamer1 Is that what you are recommending?
I have 50 B 60 C on the Monitor Gamma 3 What I did though is take the Nvidia sliders and turned gamma down to .81 that really makes stuff pop if stuff is too dark in games I just turn up the gamma in game. Any other settings are just too bright and will mess with you. I did buy a Vesa stand for this monitor I feel the LG stand didn't go low enough so I purchased a stand for 29.00 on Amazon that goes all the way down it's a pole design but was able to lower the monitor about 3 inches more like I wanted. Other wise you are looking up at it and it blinds you.
Xbox Series X user - is it best to use the SDR or HDR settings? I play FPS - specifically Cod/Warzone. My LG 27GR95QE-B arrives tomorrow, hope I'm not underwhelmed :) Cheers.
Best to set up both modes and the screen will switch between them depending on which input mode it detects from the console. I’d suggest also running the Xbox HDR calibration tool after you’ve adjusted the monitor. Personally I don’t like to use the “auto HDR” mode on the console but if you do, that will prob mean the screen ends up running in HDR most of the time anyway
I prefer gamer 1 myself for hdr and went with that. Come to find out Vincent in hdtvtest says it is far more accurate than gamer 2 as well. You can always switch back and forth obviously and go with whichever you prefer. I thought both gamer 1 and gamer 2 were far too blue on my unit and dialed the blues back via nvidia control panel. Supposedly, however, the d65 white point of gamer 1 was very accurate per Vincent. Will have another look see tonite.
No major difference in our testing between HDR Gamer 1 and 2 other than slightly brighter mid grey in 2 which we expect some people will prob prefer. White point and colour accuracy basically the same in both. You’d probably be better turning blue channel down a bit on the monitor as per this video guide than adjusting at the graphics card level as it will help maintain tonal values and avoid any banding issues. Our review also linked in the description for testing of thr HDR modes
Any recommendations for the GS version refresh? The image in gamer 1 feels very yellowish compared to my calibrated ips panel. Like its too "warm". Saturation is a bit too much but thats not as distracting
You should record at 1440p or at least upload in 1440p so UA-cam encoded the video in the higher quality VP9 codec, because honestly windows stuff is pretty small and you pair that with UA-cam compression it can be hard to read the small text or icons at times
Is there any middleware out there allow you to change OSD profile on the fly depending on the content. I dont see myself working on Lightroom and switching everytime from one mode to another while I go back to my gaming mode. Can you through windows and not via OSD change the profile and make it pop very quickly ?
thanks for your hard work amazing and informative is it possible to do best settings for LG 32 OLED Dual Mode 4K UHD 240Hz or FHD 480Hz because i heard that it needs more color optimization in the settings
I use the pixel shift mode 1, and I even had mode 4 for a few months. I am not even sure if mode 1 or 4 is the most frequent one with biggest shift, apparently from searching online it's the mode 1 that is shifting the most and more often but I could never tell, I never noticed the shift unless I really focus on the screen like when writing something for example, like for example this comment, I didn't notice it shift, maybe I blinked lol. It's sad there's no decisive official information on these modes.
the settings you save with hdr off will actually carry over to hdr mode once you turn it on... for me it looks like. so the greyed out options are available just finicky to use
I don’t think they actually do anything though. They might look like they’re set at different things (although I don’t recall seeing this) but I don’t think in reality they would be. HDR mode is pre defined largely as with many monitors
Hi bro! ty for your vid and so many info! I have a quetions, i planning to buy 2 k oled and i think i ll choose asus oled 2k 27, what you can say about lg and asus ones and about future coming corsair, acer, aoc, does after a time of use it all still great and you no plan to switch on other oled monitors of corsair/acer/aoc? Or better to calmly wait them and choose best? Or asus already must be one of best And what means hdmi 2.0 not good for consoles, how that work? i plan in future buy ps5 and xbox x and thinking how bad it will be if i stay asus for play on thme games like apex legends Asus 2k oled will take from me around 1600$ with delivery to my place What you can say in total it very good buy? i currently on 240 hz dyac + benq 2546k It will be big changes in screen and shooting for me on oled? I play apex legends/Dayz and plan to play other games single/survival/shooting. Oled of Asus will be very good for apex/dayz and others vs my TN 240 benq? I want be able to see more clear screen to see enemy pixels on distance/green/bushes/ pick from top of building or like very little part of head Will be so thankful for your reply!
It’s quite hard to know at this stage with the screens from Acer, Corsair etc not released but the two models from Lg and Asus so far have been impressive. I prefer the Asus overall personally The only console drawback in using HDMI 2.0 is that you can’t run 4k (virtual) and 120Hz at the same time. Actually for gaming there’s no need to run that anyway as you would be better running native 1440p and that will allow you to drive refresh rate up to 120Hz better. The only gap is that on the Xbox you can’t use HDR mode at 1440p, so you’d therefore be stuck with 4k 60Hz if you want HDR. The PS5 doesn’t have this problem though
@@tftcentral thank you so much for great reply i got you! Now understand about hdmi 2.0, i think for me absolutely no problem since for gaming i mostly will use ps5 and atm anyway even have no console and prefer pc For pc hdmi 2.0 and hdmi 2.1 with future 4080ti no difference will be? do you think there any serious reasons to wait other 2 k oleds, or buy asus and be happy is good way? Also about upgrade from benq dyac+ to oked 2 k asus will be good overall? For competitive feel (I mostly have problem to see enemie in green/range dayz and to shoot in small part of head/enemie picks in apex I think clear and more pixel oled will help with it
For pc you’d want to use display port for sure as HDMI 2.0 will be limited there to 1440p at 120Hz. But DP is fine to use In terms of upgrading your BenQ, you should notice some improvements in black depth, contrast and viewing angles certainly. I do wonder though if you’d be better trying to get a high pixel density screen with 4K if you’re primarily interested in improving image detail and distance viewing? There will be an upgrade going from 1080p to 1440p still which will be decent, but 4k could offer even more. But you won’t find that in the gaming OLED monitor space at the moment sadly. I expect all things considered it will be a very nice upgrade :)
@@tftcentral Thank you so much bro! ye i defenetly will go oled 2 k and see my gameplay with it Only question to wait any other oleds or take asus and that already almost maximum good?
Do you have to change settings in SDR and then change to HDR "Game Mode 1"? to get the effect? becuase i feel like my hdr colors are a little bit too grey. What settings do you use in HDR mode? And do you turn off HDR in Windows 11?
@@tftcentral I have the monitor and I'm not so happy with it. It's a little not good to have hadr disable and renable every time i need for a game. It will be better an auto transition. Also the gsync doen't work so good as the other samsung that i have. Here the hz of the monitor displayed with the fps counter aren't exactly as the fps in game....some times peaks double and then goes down... al random. Everything is updateted...
What should I have my black level set to? Low or high? Low has darker blacks which I prefer but I lose a lot of detail in the brights which really bugs me
That should only be changed for HDMI inputs with a limited range signal. Not applicable for Pc. You should leave it at default otherwise you’re clipping blacks and whites (as you see when blacks get raised) which you don’t want!
@@tftcentral I’m using an HDMI 2.1 cable and I’m assuming 2.1 doesn’t have a limited range signal right? Nvidia control panel settings are set to 0-255, full, 12 bit, etc Edit: Oh you said it’s not applicable! Sorry! Thanks!
Yeah it’s the input device that would be limited range, like a blu ray player or tv box. Not applicable for a pc as long as you have it set up correctly (which you do)
Only run HDR in windows when viewing HDR content, but you can set desktop brightness slider to whatever is comfortable. It won’t impact actual HDR mode performance anyway.
@@tftcentral thank your for your answer! another question is , windows tells me this monitor has only 600 nits but LG says it has 1000 should i set it to 1000 then or not?
See our review for actual HDR measurements. It doesn’t get anywhere near 1000 nits. I’d set it relative to what’s actually achieved tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/lg-27gr95qe-oled
I received my LG 27GR95QE-B today and you said to turn off SMART ENERGY SAVING, but no matter what I do, this mode is grayed out and I can't select it. Does this mean my LG will always automatically adjust the brightness, etc.? Or can I bypass it somehow, or should I return it?
Is it greyed out and locked as on, or off? Does the brightness of the screen change when using the brightness slider and reach pretty high levels at max?
The brightness is on 100% and doesn't change, I think. And since I can't select the Smart Energy Saving, I can't see if it's turned on or off because it just jumps to the next selection which is deep sleep mode. I even phoned LG support today, but they couldn't help me. They said it's because I use DisplayPort and I should optimize it in GeForce Experience @tftcentral and also i feel like nvidia g sync and hdr does make look everything way worse idk what i did wrong. Your set up looks great but if I enable Gsync I get flickering in menus and load screens in games. I think Freesync Pro is already running and they are trying to run at the same time.
Something people should know about this model: It's not 10 bit, it's 8 bit + FRC, so it basically emulates 10 bit with some trickery. This is probably one of the biggest spec mis directions that puts this panel behind others, because even other WOLED panels released around the same time are the full 10 bit without FRC. So even though everyone thinks all the other WOLED panels released around the same time are the same panel, they're actually not the same panel, LG cheaped out but quietly pretended like they didn't. Essentially, it uses dithering to fake 10 bit. Anyone susceptible to flickering could have an issue, and dithering itself could cause issues with gradients. This also messes with response times, which is likely why TFTcentral saw some issues on their UFO test. While the response time is fast, it uses up that response time to apply the FRC, which would explain why it lagged behind on the UFO test. Essentially, you're not getting a true stop and hold on the pixels, you're getting that FRC flicker that keeps it from a steady stop and hold, which can cause motion smearing. This is also probably some of the source of brightness issues with the monitor, since the dithering by FRC requires constant pixel brightness and color changes to emulate 10 bit, changes that happen faster than the refresh rate, as the pixels need to dither by transitioning X number of times between 240hz refreshes, which overall averages out to a dimmer brightness due to the color changes needed to do FRC dithering. This is also clearly why it has a 12 bit option, as it is not slated to support Dolbyvision HDR, which is a 12 bit format. So it has a 12 bit option because it's 8 bit + 4 bit from FRC. So in essence all the 12 bit option is telling you is that because the OLED is fast enough, it can just do more FRC dithering to emulate those extra bits. If it was a true 10 bit display, it wouldn't even have a 12 bit option. In some ways 8 bits + FRC can be meaningless, especially for SDR. But its biggest impact would be on darker gradients, which could lead to clipping and mosquito noise. It would also exasperate VRR flicker. And from a technical standpoint, it means that it's not actually generating the real color gamut, it's just faking it. This is also probably why it does soo poorly compared to other OLED's on the color gamut tests, because the physical testing equipment gets faked out (but not completely) by the FRC dithering, which creates some inconsistencies that shouldn't exist on an OLED. Even at $599, all other issues aside like brightness, the biggest problem with this panel is it's 8 bit + FRC. That immediately puts it well below other panels. That makes it really a no go in this era, and makes it more like trying to sell a 2015 monitor in 2024. FRC is simply something you don't want on a new monitor in this day and age, and certainly not on an OLED, especially when every other OLED out there is native 10 bit. LG really pulled a stealth bait and switch on this one, by making people think this is a true 10 bit panel. All that FRC on pixels that are notoriously affected by changes (i.e. burn in), really can't be good on an OLED, because it causes the pixels to do even more work, 10 times the work even, as they're forced to change much more often than even the refresh rate itself. So this model could basically be called the TN panel of OLED's. So it seems what LG did was give all the other brands the real 10 bit panel, and slipped in their inferior 8 bit + FRC panel under their brand, and made everyone think they're the same panel, and charging the same prices as everyone else, allowing them to sell an inferior panel for higher prices equal to the superior panels. FRC doesn't just make the 8 bit panel inferior, it also means it need more overhead in order to emulate those colors, which is probably why despite its brightness limitations, it uses a fan, which is not meant to cool the panel, but rather, the board parts, and that cooling is probably largely required because all the processing overhead required for FRC. What this all means is that for those who own the monitor already, setting it to 12 bits will at least be better than setting it to 10 bits, because you'll get a smoother FRC experience that can better iron out the issues of 8 bits + 2 bits FRC.
Hi I just bought thise monitor and I can’t understand what is the best gaming mode for example should I use hdr on all the time ? Or should I have it of? and when I have it of why it has hdr effect ?
FPS mode is just another preset mode with different colour and sharpness configuration. You can use that mode if you like, but it doesn’t offer any gaming benefits as such. Or use the recommended settings here which will be a more accurate appearance. Or you can switch to FPS mode for when you game
it has flicker if u get around 55 to 60 fps .... so unless u can be always above 70 u will get flicker. also u might get flicker on static HUD elements and static menus .... so be carefull if u are sensitive to flicker . this monitor is gsync compatible and not gsync certified
Mate, if you read this please reply, Is it worth getting the monitor if primary usecase is coding and ocasional media consumption. This is the only reasonable option in my country and I really really want to try out an oled moitor.
It’s hard to recommend an OLED for those kind of uses to be honest due to burn in risk and the pixel layout/text problems. If there’s not many options available and you are keen to try one out is there somewhere you can buy from that will support a return if you don’t like it?
@@tftcentral Return policy is horrendous in my country. And I am not really bothered about burn in as I will be using the monitor for max 6-8 months. Is the text clarity that bad? I will be watching the screen from a reasonable distance. I am leaning towards oled because it has zero backlight bleed and thus will provide minimal eye strain compared to an ips. I will be using dark mode in my code editor. Am I wrong in my assertion? Thanks for your detailed reply man. Really appreciate it.
It’s not great for text clarity but I can’t really offer much more advice than that to be honest. Maybe you’d be ok, but ideally you’d want to use one before committing
I would really love to go for the ASUS OLED monitor, with its heatsink and higher brightness. However the lack of HDMI 2.1 ( which is needed for VRR) for PS5 is a killer. However the LG my worry is that it is not going to be bright enough..
@@almighty151986 that is really comforting to hear. As the Asus OLED is around 360 USD$ more expensive in my country. To have that difference is absurd and makes me lean toward the LG.
Hey boss I bought this exact oled open box excellent from Best Buy for $611 with tax. The monitor is great is fantastic for gaming but for some reason I can’t get the remote to connect to the monitor. I think maybe that’s why it was returned. I have an lg nano cell tv so my magic remote works but I can’t get oled care to pop up with my magic remote. Someone said I had to use the freaking remote that came with the monitor but it won’t work! You think I should return it or keep it?! It’s super expensive and I don’t want burn in!
That’s a fairly common issue on OLED for some reason with dark content. There’s no real solution to it other than disabling VRR and using fixed refresh rate and Vsync if necessary
Some people saying gamer mode 2 is better for hdr, and some gamer 1 because gamer 2 is over saturated. I personaly use hdr all the time on in windows settings with britghtness for sdr content at 65 and its just great for me, gamer 1 seems washed. Am i losing something if i use this settings? @@tftcentral I'm in gamer 2, so no strange mode. I have HDR enabled in windows, should I not have it enabled? How would I use HDR if I don't enable it in windows?
Hi bro, I need your HELP I have that same monitor and it looks amazing, but when I play games like VALORANT it appears in 4k resolution (3840x2160) and then the refresh rate drops to 120 hz I check this using the LG controller and going to general in the Information section. I have a GTX 1660 Super and I can't find a solution to this problem.
@@tftcentral YES, the guy was right it is fixed by deleting the 4k resolution with cru, now when I put full screen in valorant it doesn't change me to 4k anymore, But LG won't fix it??? in case I ever want to play at 4k . Or is it not worth playing at 4k on this monitor because it is designed for 2k? And if they fix the bug it fixes itself or you have to update somehow?
I found that CPC enable set off and LEA refreash enable set to OFF in service menu is crucial settins for this monitor. Can you make another video about these settings and hopefully LG will include these settings in menu for next firmware. Thanks!
Hi, they offer uniform and brighter picture. CPC (Convex Power Control) which is also found on various LG OLED TVs. This causes the screen to dim towards the edges, mainly near the corners, to reduce power consumption at the expense of uniformity. LEA Refresh Enable (ON/OFF, Default: ON) Turning it off causes static bright sections of the scene to be slightly brighter, while dark areas or areas in motion do not change in brightness. It seems to act like a faster, though much less agressive ASBL.
@alabama1974 interesting. Thanks for the info. I’ve got a service remote but sadly don’t have access to the screen any more to try these out. Will try and remember for as and when we test the new LG OLEDs later in the year!
There isn’t any real difference sadly. Only real change is that gamer 2 HDR mode has now been changed to be a lot cooler, helping to increase the peak brightness but at the cost of a cool and blue image which is less accurate. No change to gamer 1 mode which is the more accurate
I also bought an open box and had to call LG they were able to give me a part number and you have to order it straight from them. Price is 59.99 and I can confirm it works.
Something I've noticed is everyone labels this monitor as 10 bit but microcenter labels it as 8 bit + FRC. Would that matter or create a different then playing at 8 bit vs 10 bit?

APRIL 2023 FIRMWARE UPDATE - the new firmware has made only a very minor change to SDR brightness, so our recommendations for SDR mode and brightness settings remain basically the same. For HDR, Gamer 2 mode has now been changed to be much cooler (~8900K) in an effort to cheat a higher peak brightness (~880 nits). Our recommendation for HDR has therefore changed - stick to HDR Gamer 1 mode for the better white point ~6500K, unless you specifically like a cooler image
so the update came out march 31 is this the april firmware they were talking about or do they have plans on giving us a firmware for april ?
It’s the same one

Hello, could you explain what 'input compatibility version 2.1' (pc) and (av) are and how to choose?
That’s for the HDMI input. You’d normally leave it on v2.1 unless you had very specific problems with older HDMI devices like a dvd player or something that might require you to switch over to the other mode
Can’t wait for the new 27GS95QE review and preferred settings!
Very helpful. Should be the standard video after testing panels, I always find it such a hit and miss method when doing it myself. This is a nice general direction you are pointing. Thanks.

Thank you guys for this. I just got this monitor last week I love it. I do have a few questions.
What Nvidia desktop color settings are you using?
Also what Windows HDR settings are you using?
No changes from default on the graphics card side in those areas. Apart from stuff at start of the video
I hope LG is sponsoring you @tftcentral !! Haha , Just spent 30 min reading comments & replies from you regarding this monitor . You have way more patience than I do .
@@tftcentral Thank you so much, much appreciated!
Question: Do you also recommend using Windows 11's HDR Calibration program on top of these settings?
Worth running through that as well I expect yes
So if I'm correct, Gamer 1 for HDR content, and SRGB for SDR content? Thanks for the great vid.
I get This Monitor next week and i only use it for Gaming. Should i set it to Gamer1 or sRGB Mode in your opinion?
Gamer 1 where you will get the wider gamut coverage needed for HDR titles, and for more vivid colours generally even in SDR gaming
@@tftcentral so Gamer1 for SDR Gaming?
Depends if you value accuracy or prefer accentuated and vivid colours. Down to preference really but try both and see what you prefer for your usage
@@tftcentral What would you pick for gaming
Personally I’d rather accuracy or to use one of the other modes but in wide gamut mode. I’ve never been a fan of “vivid” modes on screens
I vastly prefer the "RTS" preset for HDR over the other ones. It's the only one that looks warm without being too saturated like Gamer 2.
On SRGB Mode with Gamer1, would you rather set the Blue to 48 for the best white Color, or go to the Color-Temp Settings and use the „Manual C1“ Mode?
Gamer 1 mode and sRGB mode are separate. But the manual modes are just additional preset modes. It’s easier to get to the target white point just using the custom mode and the RGB values provided. Might vary a little by unit sample but that worked nicely to correct the cool default setup. Note the blue channel is 44 in Gamer 1 and 48 in sRGB mode
@@tftcentral sorry i mean SDR Mode.
SDR with Gamer one. Should i usw the Blue at 44 or The C1 Mode for the best white?
Custom mode, blue at 44 :)
@@tftcentral Thank you very much!

That’s being returned today (06/23)
Given the 38” Alienware ruined 27” monitors for me, I’m now awaiting shipment of the Alienware AW3423DWF.
It’s useful for burn in prevention potentially but it’s noticeable during desktop use I find

@@tftcentralWill do. Im trying out some new colour settings. Thanks anyway!
Thank you so much! Amazing settings.
I bought this monitor 3 months ago and had some interesting bugs. I turned it on one morning and noticed a bunch of horizontal lines going from black to grey running along the top third of the screen. Ive noticed this too this monitor honestly sucks for the price i regret buying it everyday
On my panel, a black stabilizer value of 60 does increase the black level. It's extremely subtle, but definitely non-zero.
It will depend then if the benefit of increasing the near black detail is worth it or not. If black is still very deep and it’s barely noticeable you might find it’s worth it to improve shadow detail 😀

Hi, I'm a bit new to messing with picture settings - why do you lower the brightness in the non-hdr modes?
Edit: is it just to be more comfortable on the eyes while using Excel?
I followed what you said but increased the brightness to 100% for Gamer1 in SDR because pictures and games look better bright, so then the uses will be:
1. General desktop work/browsing: SDR sRGB
2. Non-HDR games, watching videos/looking at pictures: SDR Gamer 1 (100% brightness)
3. HDR games: HDR Gamer1
Is that what you are recommending?
That would be fine, if you want a higher brightness for gaming and movies in SDR mode but want it lower for desktop and office work 😀
Thanks man, I wouldn't have been confident touching gamma or RGB levels before your video.@@tftcentral
Incredible video. Made such a difference setting up my monitor. Didn't want to leave a like though since you were already at 420
Thanks for leaving a comment and feedback, glad it was useful 😀
When or will you have settings available for LG27GS95QE? I can't even find an icc profile online for it yet
No plans at the moment to review that model I’m afraid
@@tftcentral I didn’t think you could adjust color settings in hdr on the monitor. Will give it another look. Thanks.
No you can’t in HDR mode, I was talking about SDR modes :)
Not that I’ve seen but their provided software can make it pretty quick to switch between modes if you need
thanks for your hard work
amazing and informative

because i heard that it needs more color optimization in the settings
Yes as and when we’ve reviewed that model
@@tftcentral great news 🫶
Or asus already must be one of best
And what means hdmi 2.0 not good for consoles, how that work? i plan in future buy ps5 and xbox x and thinking how bad it will be if i stay asus for play on thme games like apex legends
Asus 2k oled will take from me around 1600$ with delivery to my place
What you can say in total it very good buy? i currently on 240 hz dyac + benq 2546k
It will be big changes in screen and shooting for me on oled? I play apex legends/Dayz and plan to play other games single/survival/shooting. Oled of Asus will be very good for apex/dayz and others vs my TN 240 benq? I want be able to see more clear screen to see enemy pixels on distance/green/bushes/ pick from top of building or like very little part of head
Will be so thankful for your reply!
It’s quite hard to know at this stage with the screens from Acer, Corsair etc not released but the two models from Lg and Asus so far have been impressive. I prefer the Asus overall personally
The only console drawback in using HDMI 2.0 is that you can’t run 4k (virtual) and 120Hz at the same time.
Now understand about hdmi 2.0, i think for me absolutely no problem since for gaming i mostly will use ps5 and atm anyway even have no console and prefer pc
For pc hdmi 2.0 and hdmi 2.1 with future 4080ti no difference will be?
do you think there any serious reasons to wait other 2 k oleds, or buy asus and be happy is good way?
Also about upgrade from benq dyac+ to oked 2 k asus will be good overall? For competitive feel
(I mostly have problem to see enemie in green/range dayz and to shoot in small part of head/enemie picks in apex
I think clear and more pixel oled will help with it
For pc you’d want to use display port for sure as HDMI 2.0 will be limited there to 1440p at 120Hz. But DP is fine to use
In terms of upgrading your BenQ, you should notice some improvements in black depth, contrast and viewing angles certainly.
@@tftcentral Thank you so much bro! ye i defenetly will go oled 2 k and see my gameplay with it
Only question to wait any other oleds or take asus and that already almost maximum good?
Really hard to answer at this stage but I’d say the Asus is a good bet tbh
These types of videos are great. Hope you make the same for the pg32ucdm when it comes out. It will be popular

Color settings do you recommend?
Just default
Yours is a lot brighter than mine. Looking at your OSD settings on my LG OLED monitor, it's brighter than the OSD on the monitor itself!
There’s a specific button at the bottom of the remote for that menu
Do you have to change settings in SDR and then change to HDR "Game Mode 1"? to get the effect? becuase i feel like my hdr colors are a little bit too grey. What settings do you use in HDR mode? And do you turn off HDR in Windows 11?
Only enable HDR mode when you’re viewing actual HDR content. Otherwise leave it disabled and use the SDR mode settings on the monitor
@@tftcentral I have the monitor and I'm not so happy with it. It's a little not good to have hadr disable and renable every time i need for a game. It will be better an auto transition. Here the hz of the monitor displayed with the fps counter aren't exactly as the fps in game....some times peaks double and then goes down... al random. Everything is updateted...
Does enabling hdr on windows cause any input delay or lag?
It shouldn’t do. But I would recommend only enabling it when you are viewing HDR content, don’t leave it enabled all the time
@@tftcentral Are they playing a game with HDR, running this option in the win?
What should I have my black level set to? Low or high? Low has darker blacks which I prefer but I lose a lot of detail in the brights which really bugs me
That should only be changed for HDMI inputs with a limited range signal. Not applicable for Pc. You should leave it at default otherwise you’re clipping blacks and whites (as you see when blacks get raised) which you don’t want!

Yeah it’s the input device that would be limited range, like a blu ray player or tv box. Not applicable for a pc as long as you have it set up correctly (which you do)

Hi how do you update the monitor? i just ordered mine and its coming soon, or u think its updated already out the box? thanks
If i use this monitor with HDR what should i set for auto hdr in windows 11 ? And what peak brightness should i set in the HDR calibration app
So should I use 8 bits to have the best response time?
Hi I just bought thise monitor and I can’t understand what is the best gaming mode for example should I use hdr on all the time ? Or should I have it of? and when I have it of why it has hdr effect ?
Hey how has your experience been with it? I just bought it

FPS mode is just another preset mode with different colour and sharpness configuration. You can use that mode if you like, but it doesn’t offer any gaming benefits as such. Or use the recommended settings here which will be a more accurate appearance. Or you can switch to FPS mode for when you game

I found that CPC enable set off and LEA refreash enable set to OFF in service menu is crucial settins for this monitor. Can you make another video about these settings and hopefully LG will include these settings in menu for next firmware. Thanks!
What’s the background to changing those settings please and what benefits do they offer?
If only Lg include these options in menu, so we could save them. Asus PG27AQDM can turn off CPC by disabling screen saver in menu.
