    I love how they pulled the cap off to show it had pressure, very thoughtful

      @Got2Learn  6 років тому

      Yeah, I thought it would be a good idea as some would be skeptical about if there really was pressure in it, thanks ;)

    This is very firm joint and it can also be used for fast repair of leaking solder joints on T pieces for example when you don't have ability to properly re solder same T piece (pipes are fixes and non movable). I would do like this: clean and roughen the copper surface with lets say 100 grit, flux it, pre-tinning whole pipe area, flux it again, wrapp the wire, flux it on top and than solder... Now you have ugly, messy looking but working thingy. Lot of solder can fix leaking situation and if you don't see it (somewhere in basement) you don't really need to replace or undo it... This is permanent solution and even if you are master of this with every possible tool in your box don't underestimate this solution cause you never know where and when you may need it. Thanks.

    Never use 50/50 solder on a domestic water line.. Ever! ..otherwise, nice tip. I will add that if you use stranded wire, like from a power cord or speaker wire ..or an old string of xmas lights, etc. There will be no need for the 50/50 solder. But like you said. The flux will cook off fast, so heat pipe first when wire is hot enough for solder, dab a little more flux on before applying solder. Also, it would be a tremendous help if you dipped solder into flux before applying solder to wire. A better solution would be to braze the joint with some sil phos 15. In which case, go back to using that solid 14 gage romex. That joint wouldn't meet code either but it would stand the test of time regardless.

    I'm in an emergency situation......it's a record breaking snow storm here in Arkansas and we burst a pipe today....,.just need to fix it temporarily as the plumbers are not available till the weekend.....hope it works.....also all I have is an industrial grade soldering iron heat gun combo....no torch do....so will it hold for 4 days? We shall see. But this seems to be my best option at this hour.

    • @jvon3885

      So it took me about 4 hours to seal the split pipe. I had around 2' of space behind the water heater to work with. So far so good. I was also unable to use copper wire to wrap around the pipe. All I know is the land Lord is going to be pissed when they see the torn out wall. But shit it was spraying right into the 220 dryer outlet and they have nothing labeled in the fuse panel. Thanks for this video though it's kept my family with water. Here in Little Rock Arkansas they are used to maybe a bit of ice for a week or so. We are at around 8" with 10" more possible coming today and tomorrow. I lived in the mountains so I know what to do how to drive and what have you. I'll be damned if a bit of snow is going to stop me. Lol. Thanks again and this is going I'm my bag of tricks.

    You can use copper pipe (only if you dont hsve a coupler ) you need to cut it in half and make sure is cover the burst pipe ( sorry my english is not to good )

    neat trick but if this happens in a building, where you need to shut the whole building off to repair this, the person you call had better have the right tools to fix this. Even if its a shark bite fitting and a section of pipe until a permanent repair can be made. If your a home owner, just shut the whole house off. Im trying to figure out the chances that someone would have 2 ft of 10/2 lying around, a torch, sand paper, flux, and solder, vs possibly having a hand full of couplings as well.

    Better yet, buy a couple of fittings for each size pipe you have and then you are ready to fix it right rather than doing this kludgy repair. It really isn’t that hard to plan ahead just a little and be prepared.
