  • DON'T BUY ACDelco!!!!!!
My ACDelco water pump suffered a catastrophic failure after 2 1/2 years, 12k miles. THE HUB SEPARATED FROM THE SHAFT!!!! I don't care how many miles you have on a water pump, this should never happen. When I made this video I thought I had bought a quality pump.
Thank god it didn't happen on the highway.
WELL, MY HIGH QUALITY GATES WATER PUMP (MADE IN CHINA) FAILED ONE YEAR TO THE DAY (SCREW YOU GATES, I'M NEVER BUYING YOUR PRODUCTS AGAIN) AND I HAVE TO DO THIS PAIN IN THE A** JOB AGAIN. I PLANNED ON RETURNING THE OLD PUMP, BUT ROCK AUTO ONLY WOULD ALLOW AN EXCHANGE FOR ANOTHER GATES. WHAT , SO I CAN DO IT AGAIN IN A YEAR? I THREW IT IN THE TRASH AND GOT AN AC DELCO ON AMAZON.
PLEASE TAKE ALL THE NORMAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS. CHOCK THE WHEELS, PARKING BRAKE ON, USE JACK STANDS. (THOUGH I HAVE DONE THIS JOB WITH ALL FOUR WHEELS ON THE GROUND)
SORRY FOR THE VIDEO QUALITY. I DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THIS TIME BUT I HAD TO USE STABILIZING SOFTWARE TO FIX IT.

Water pump hasn't failed on my 06 T & C (yet) but I'm so glad to find this, I went through hell with a Caravan I had a few years ago with broken bolts on the pump. So now I'm prepared!! You were there for my front brake pad install I just wrapped up this morning 😊😊😊👍👍👍

This is the most thorough video. Great tips on the bolts and using anti seize. I was watching for future reference but with close to 60k miles on my 2004 caravan it looks like I may need to monitor the pump more closely! I’ll make sure to get the Delco pump with the steel impeller. It’s difficult to find parts made in the US anymore. I just replaced the tensioner with a Litens tensioner made in Canada.

Wow, low mileage for 16+ years. If that is the original water pump, BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID! If you haven't already, watch my other caravan water pump videos and handle those bolts slowly and with caution!

It’s been a garage queen for most of its life - never been out in the snow until this winter, so corrosion should be nil, but, I’ll be sure to change out the bolts(and use the anti-seize on them). I found the Delco on Rockauto, seems like they have different grades at Delco. The gold professional series and a cheaper line. I’ll put a order in for a new pump and thermostat while I’m at it. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Thanks to your video and 5 others like it, I just replaced the water pump in my 2006 T&C. (May 2023) My new Carquest water pump is made in Mexico, NOT China. However, it has a plastic impeller. In 2 years, ask me if it lasted, and I'll be glad to tell you.

You said you did it before but you didn't lose some the pulley bolts. Before the serpentine belts

Well even after all of my efforts, I had 2 bolts snapped. The 2 on the rear of the pump. Now I'm stuck. Looking at having to pull the mounting bracket. Only 118k miles on the van, bought the 2 belt tensioners as well as the belt to replace them.

That is the timing cover and no easy task to remove. I would have someone mig weld nuts onto the broken bolts and take them out. The heat and electricity from the mig welder seems to break them loose. If you haven't watched my other videos, this one is clamping it, and yes it can be a permanent fix: ua-cam.com/video/L3J4iJN6WYc/v-deo.html And this one is me drilling the broken bolts out: ua-cam.com/video/13qECg-wpxE/v-deo.html (watch that one first) If you drill it out, Lowe's now has a low profile 90 degree battery drill that wasn't available when I made the video.

Most all those pumps come in different flavors from the SAME Chinese factory.

Drop the engine no good, still wont get pulley off. Pull the engine toward driver with a ratchet strap and get the room.
