Even though I can see how the “magic trick” was done, it doesn’t lose any of its appeal to me...I think it actually gives me a greater appreciation for what the cast and crew did to bring the show to life. As always, thank you for sharing.

I still watch too. Everyday at lunchtime , I get to go home through the show and feel those around me that have passed on through watching The Walton's. My Daddy, mama , and oldest sister are no longer with us but when I watch , were all here together in my heart. It brings the same feelings as the good days of our family all together. I hope that you and the rest of the cast never take lightly what you have brought to our hearts and homes through Mr. Earl Hamner's vision of his beloved family.

I'm sorry for your loss but so glad we have The Waltons that can take us right back there to our home (our old family home has been torn down) and seats that each one sat in to watch. In the words of my mama when she was struggling with alzhiemers, "they can tear down the home but they can never take my memories". In her heart she wanted to be back in her childhood home with her parents and brothers. Even though she raised 10 children, at that time, her mind went back to those days. So thankful for the memories Judy!!! We should never take them for granted.😥😘

When I was in first grade, I was in a Christmas play at school. I was an elf. I was forced to wear green tights. I was dreading the night the curtain would open. I remembered my one line and got through it. But my mean older brother said, “Everyone could see your underwear through those green tights. I was mortified with embarrassment and it it ended my acting career.
But I secretly wanted to be a Walton.
The Waltons and crew did a great job of making us viewers believe we were experiencing life in a bygone era, in the scenic mountains of West Virginia. It is my favorite show of all time!

The first play I was in, [ summer camp], I had been on TV a couple times [ Mom worked at the TV station] - I was having a time at school, and was made fun of, so my self esteem was not very high. They chose me to be Charlie Brown - said I was “perfect “ for it. So I just left. [ and I mean I left❗️]
I was so upset I started walking home from the camp, which was a considerable hike through the city [St.Louis County - I’m guessing 20 miles or so, but a pretty straight route for most of it]. I made it several miles before they found me. I ended up playing Linus, which was still a great part, and I enjoyed it. The production was pretty simple, “ Your AGood Man Charlie Brown “, and it went over very well.

Thank you, Judy for sharing all of these videos. I watched the series as a child in the 70s, and now I'm watching it again, from a different perspective. When I was young, of course I identified with the kids. (I am about the same age as Kami.) I really appreciate the wholeness and values presented in the show.

Judy, in 1981, I was 11 years old. My friend's dad was a script supervisor at WB (or the Burbank Studios). One day in the summer I went to work with him and his dad. One of the things we did that day was cruise around the lot in a golf cart. One of the places we stopped was the Walton house!! So, I actually played in the front yard as a kid of the Walton house! Also, I was confused to see there was nothing inside of the house!! haha It's so odd to think that the time period from the show to when I was a kid, is the same amount of time that's passed between when I was a kid and now! About 40 years.
You and the cast, along with the crew and writers did a great job giving that 40's feel. There will never be a time like that again. People truly sacrificing and suffering through a REAL crisis, the depression; and families mattered.
    God bless.

Thanks so much, Judy, for showing a Walton's map and explaining how the set was. Film is so different from live theater sets. No matter how much you reveal, The Walton's still looks to me as though it is located on a Blue Ridge Mountain somewhere in Virginia. Whereas, it's very apparent a theater stage is - well - staged! It's so nice you've continued The Walton's and treated us fans to listening to and talking with Mary Ellen/Judy! Have a wonderful week! Bless Walton's everywhere!

@3:27 regarding Will Geer and his vegetable garden. I noticed that in a few of his scenes throughout the series, his lines include detailed info about plants (species name, etc). I know that he was a botanist in real life, but I wonder if he ad-libbed these “plant fact” lines or did he work with the writers to include these plant facts.

Judy you didn't mention the small row of houses. There weren't too many of them so those houses had to be used again and again. Mrs. Brimmer's house, the house where Ron Howard's family lived (THE GIFT) and on and on. And then there were the times art director Ed Graves performed real magic like in the final scene of THE PONY CART -- the scene when Ben and Martha Corinne take the first ride in the pony cart, where Martha Corinne saw a field of daisies. Ben let her off of the cart, he left, she went into the field to collect daisies, had a heart attack and died. We spent a day up at Frazier Park for that episode (and I have to include a sidebar episode that occurred.) Ed and I spent a day scouting Frazier Park during my prep. As we were driving thru the area Ed spotted a rattle snake in the middle of the road. He ran over it and then did a back a forth a couple times to be sure he had killed it. We reported it to the Park authorities and they thanked us. Now to return to what i was discussing. The park wold have been an ideal place to film, but with all the other work that day,, there wasn't the time. So Graves found a place on the back lot, a fork in the dirt road where the road separated and went in 2 directions. That part of the road that went in the right direction he turned into a patch.of daisies; the road in the left direction was where Ben drove off in the cart. To add: Actually the houses weren't in a row. They wouldn't have been. They were separated as the Walton House was.

I just ran across your channel. I love the Waltons and always have. I’m 55 and for the past several years I took care of my grandmother who passed away last year at age 96. She was born in 1923 and in these last years of her life we often talked of her childhood and the Waltons gave me a reference to her childhood. She was the youngest like Elizabeth and I can imagine her being much like her. She had two older sisters and one brother who was as special as the character of John Boy. They were poor but always had plenty. They lived in a large house and she recalls when her sister’s employer give her their old victrola and exciting that was. They did not have a phone so they had to take the buggy to the store to use the phone. My great grandfather and grandmother (who I knew well) never drove only the three oldest kids. Even my maternal great grandfather lived with them and I understand he was a character and a half. So longer story short, when I watch the Waltons, it helps me recall her stories, and it helps me recall my childhood sitting with the family watching the show. Hearing you talk about the behind the scenes of the show, also helps me recall my youth; especially since my family have all passed away and I’m really all that is left. Thank you and I hope you can sometime do some episodes and bring a guest cast member on to interview/chat with while we eavesdrop on your recollections and remembrances.

Judy, I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see and learn about all of the sets and the production crews involved in making this lovely and one-of-a-kind show. It is amazing how realistic it all comes together. For me seeing this does not take anything away from the show. In some ways it adds to the show by explaining all of the hard work and techniques involved in making the series. I will admit that as I am now watching the DVD's I think about what is happening behind the cameras and what is out of sight and the angles needed to make the scenes. You explain it so perfectly that I can imagine myself with the crew in addition to the realistic scenes with you guys. That is awesome. It actually makes me appreciate the show even more knowing how it was made. It is too bad someone did not go around with a video camera of the time and just film the sets and lots as they were. In my imagination I always wished I could have been in one of the shows. Anyway, thank you for all the information about the actors, the stories and all of the behind the scenes information.
