I feel like I lost low end torque. So…. 2022 trail boss 6.2L with this intake. I pull a small a-frame pop up and atv. From a stop fully loaded I feel like I lost a tiny bit of low end torque. Between 0-2000 rpm. I also feel like the only power gain is after 3500 rpm. I have been a mechanic for a long time and in my opinion the only real benefit is the growl you get from the induction noise! That being said, the induction noise on this is worth the price for me!!! I do not regret the decision and would still recommend.
You sir inspire me to also do some mods on my at4...but like you said.."I'm on a budget". I just save your vids cuz I know one day I'll start the Mods. Thank you bro.

Don, you are the reason I bought this intake, I’m looking at it in the floor right now. Love the look of this thing. I know recently you had some dash lights come on and I don’t believe any of that will effect me as I live in Texas compared to Canada. I got so anxious I already pre installed everything for install tomorrow! Kit looks amazing so far!

You have to disable the air filter in the dash settings.
I just installed mine on my 6.2L AT4 and holy crap does it growl. Big difference and just what this truck needed in my opinion

Finally ordered mine it was finally in stock came to watch this video again for about the 5th time since Friday lol I'm exited for it mine is a 5.3 GMC Sierra I have a buddy said his mileage went up about 1 gallon but the truck is already good on fuel
You’ll love it! I have seen a tiny bit better mileage too. Not why I bought it, but a bit of a perk.
@@Donslife sounds awesome yeah I think an exhaust is next that way it flows better I hear alot of good and bad things some people don't like to put an exhaust due to it going to the V4 mode but that doesn't bother me at all

Hey Don I don’t have an AT4 but I do have a 2020 Midnight edition Trail Boss 6.2. Still enjoy your channel and what you’ve done to your AT4, really good looking truck. I know you’ve had both the S&B and the Cold Air Inductions CAI on your truck. My original plan was to get the GM performance package after I bought my truck (I did not do a factory build) only part of that equation was able to happen so far. I got the exhaust and it’s installed, sounds great. The GM CAI is on backorder and from what I’ve heard/read it will never be available for purchase
If you are wondering which would be closest to the GM performance intake, I would be inclined to think the Cold Air Inductions one would be.
@@Donslife I agree with you on that, just not sure on the oiled filter with Cold Air Inductions CAI. Trying to avoid any potential issues with MAF sensor.
@@a.bohcar5096 nothing wrong with going dry to be avoid an issue. I didn’t find mine was over oiled like some K&N drop in filters
Hey Don great videos. I just bought a 2021 AT4 6.2L and have this same CAI ordered. I also have the Borla exhaust on it's way too but I stuck with the Touring because I really don't want it loud just a little lower pitch and slightly louder than stock.
Still solid choices!
I bought the exact same intake for my 2019 5.3 Sierra and I can’t hear it at all I was a bit disappointed

Don, was inspired by your video and just finished installing the same intake on my 2019 High Country, love it! One thing that I have noticed was a popping noise when I turn the engine off. It only happens when I turn it off, not while driving. Did you experience that after your install or had any similar feedback from other viewers? Apologies if you have already addressed this in previous comments. Thanks.

Just picked up my at4 last week along with the oiled version of this CAI. I saw you went with the Borla s type.. Like many others I’m completely torn between that and the atak. What swayed you to go s type? I prefer the deep tone of the s type but worry it won’t be quite as loud (noticeable) in cab as I would prefer. You seem to make well informed and thought out decisions so your opinion is valued! Loving the content man! ✌🏼
Thanks Uncle! I do my research for sure. I chose the S-Type but only had reviews and online audio clips to reference. You may be interested to know that the ATAK has a Polyphonic Harmonizer behind the muffler you can replace with muffler 60679 to attain the "S-Type" sound level. Not sure if you looked at my latest video (UA-cam short) but the S-Type with quad black tips is sitting at home now waiting to be installed!!! ✌🏼 Part of the reason I do my research is it takes forever to get upgraded car parts here. 4 months for this exhaust 😞

Disconnect first, perform install, makes sure 2 hours has passed before starting up with the new intake.

I have watched the install of the Cold Air Induction system and I just watched the installation of the S&B CAI. I'm curious which system you really prefer and why? I'm torn...
Both are great. S&B is louder and more aggressive overall. I use the CAI branded one in my wife’s Escalade now. Can’t go wrong with either for performance
What is the significance of leaving battery unplugged for 2 hrs? Is that sonit will tune itself after?
Partially, it is more so the sensor doesn’t see a drastic change in data comparing the before and after. Unplugging will make the computer forget the data from before.
Any sound coming from the ccv quick connect to the engine, like air, like a ppfff, when shutting off the truck?

No. You can get a tune now that the ECU has been unlocked.
Would be great to have a timed 0-100 test before and after or something a little more definite
Honestly I thought about, but I didn’t have any testing equipment at the time that would measure it as precisely as we’d need. I think it would take a tune and exhaust to change 0-100 times by any noticeable amounts. This is my 3rd intake I have installed on a 6.2L and all of them have shown small improvements in mpg, a louder intake noise and improved throttle response. Above all, it is fun in my opinion
Hey Don, thanks for the install videos they're awesome. I recently got a 2021 at4 6.2 and am looking at an exhaust/cold air but I'm curious about warranty policies as this is my first brand new truck? Does this affect the warranty policy at all?
Very common question. It is highly unlikely that a intake and/or catback exhaust will void your manufacturer warranty. Consumers are protected by The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Basically the vehicle manufacturer would have to show the aftermarket part contributed to the failure of the warrantied OEM parts
Did you install the bottom plug or leave that open for better air flow? I live in the Saint Louis, Missouri area so I’m not worried about extreme heat or dusty conditions but I thought I’d ask your opinion. Thanks for all the great videos! Hey Samuel, I left the plug in to cut down on the extra dust exposure.
This is identical to the filter for the 3.0 duramax. I run the plug out in the winter and plug in during the summer as recommended. Not sure about protecting from dirt because the inlets at the top of the housing are massive. Not to mention the filter is massive. I just cleaned and oiled mine after 12k miles, after doing it, I probably could have waited 24k.
Nice! Do you consider painting you’re plastic wheel flare trims to white ? Just curious. I have the same truck and want the white to blend in with the rest of the truck.

Can you show more how you re routed the mass air flow sensor cable to the original. Seems like there are a few o=options but it appears yours is the best.

Hey, I'm fairly new to your channel, but I absolutely love it. I have a question about this install though. Why is 2 hours the "magic" number to keep the battery disconnected? I imagine it has something to do with the MAS, but why not 4 hours or 30 minutes? What is significant about 2 hours? Also, don't you have to take the truck in to get the MAS recalibrated? Hi Jeb! Thanks for watching! Two hours is just a safe amount of time to ensure that all of the relevant systems have been depleted of any electrical charge. This will allow the systems to adjust for the new intake and not think there is a fault with the stock one. 30 mins might be enough, but 2 hours is for sure enough 😊

Hey Don. I just installed an S&B intake on my 2021 AT4 with the 5.3 and I’m hearing a random loud click when decelerating and sometimes accelerating after stopping. Has anyone else heard of or experienced this?
Not sure what noise you are hearing. Maybe someone else will comment. I would check you connections again and the MAF extension cable

My truck is 21 6.2 and since the install it is sluggish at around 2k rpm's. I have checked everything twice! I really need to sort this out before I install my exhaust. Please help me!!!!

Why did you have to wait 2 hours to reconnect the battery?
To ensure all data related to the previous configuration is purged from the electronics so you don’t throw a check engine light when you restart the truck. The air filter monitor needs to be turned off too immediately upon start up or prior to the installation
Thanks for the video! Just installed this on my Sierra! Only questions I had was if the maf sensor is easier to come off now? It doesn't feel like it locks too tight on new filter wire extension. Also did u wait 2 full hours after the install? Or overall 2 hrs including the install? Thanks in advance!

@@felipealvarez5148 I just posted the new video video of another intake. I like them both pretty much the same. The S&B seems louder but I think it will dirty faster in dusty conditions with the exposed outlet. They both rock and I like them better than the K&N design we have on our Escalade. Also forgot to answer your question. 1-2 hours total battery disconnect time.
What kind of exhaust are you going to put on it ? I ordered the same truck with the 6.2 . I’m having the factory put in the cat back exhaust. Hopefully it sounds as good as the Borla S type exhaust but we will see..

Hi Don Revisited this video.. do you have to do the tune from GM to get the 15 horsepower that they claim when you do the air filter upgrade and the borla exhaust? Or.. does leaving the battery cable off for a couple hours automatically do it?..thanks..
No tune required according to S&B. Make sure to turn off the air filter monitor in the menu of your truck since this new filter has a different flow rate. I haven’t had any issues and feel a positive difference. I have not taken it to a dyno either.

i installed this exact intake today. but when i turn the truck off, there is like a "pop" or a "wet air" noise. release of air or some sort. it might have always been there with the OEM intake, just with all the muffling it has, i never noticed it. but its only when i turn it off. not when i turn it on

@@Donslife i love the intake, how it looks and feels also. its just that strange "pop" imy truck started makeking. its hard to describe it. im searching and searching and i cant find anybody going thru the same. so it is probably just me. id have to start from zero again and see where i went wrong or something
@@eethiq I had the pop noise you're mentioning as well. I have it with the stock box too you just don't hear it hardly at all because of the extra dampening material. With an aftermarket box and the dampening not there the same way you hear it more.

What was your reasoning for going with the dry vs the oiled filter? New to this but I figured the cleanable one would be ideal
Funny story. I ordered the cleanable one, it took forever to arrive and when it did, it was the wrong one. I didn’t want to wait another 6 weeks, so I kept it. I may just order a cleanable filter once this one gets dirty….maybe

Still too early to change out filter BUT did you decide if going to replace with another dry filter or switch to oiled version. I’m thinking of going only dry path due to not wanting to void warranty because I over oiled cloth filter.
Funny you ask. Probably dry with this one. It is getting dirty pretty fast
I may have no choice in Canada but to get the oiled one. Nobody seems to sell the dry one here, not even the place I bought the kit from
I saw that S&B sells them from their website. After watching your videos I will getting getting it installed on my Elevation 5.3L. I’ve also seen several installs of the CAI and every one states install is easy, BUT I will be paying a shop $100 to have it installed. After that, I will have the Putco 60” blade installed.
Why disconnect the battery?
IMPORTANT: Failure to disconnect the battery for a minimum of 2 hours may cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate upon completion of the installation or subsequent operation.

What happen to the cold air inductions
I moved it to my wife’s 2022 Escalade. Same setup. The S&B started out on my AT4. I removed it to do a review for Cold Air Inductions. Both are top notch. Both are solid choices. CAI is quieter and a tidy install. The S&B is giant, louder and in your face. I am happy to have both

I left the plug in (for now). I have an exhaust coming (on back order) that I want to install first before deciding about removing the extra plug

Don, do you know if it will void any warranty if install?
I get this question often. In the US and Canada, the simple answer is ‘No’. Assuming it was installed properly and isn’t proven to be a contributing factor to a warrantied part/system failing. Some dealerships may choose to deny service or show resistance in providing service and blame it on the accessory. But according to some consumer laws, they shouldn’t be. It might be good to ask your preferred dealership how they feel about the mod first

No it didn’t. You need to disconnect the battery for 2 hours so the truck can ‘relearn’ with the increased airflow. Lovin’ it so far. Exhaust coming soon too
@@Donslife Do you mean before or after installing the cai? are you saying that after you installed the CAI, you left the battery disconnected?
@@AngloLover You disconnect the battery before taking the original intake out. Then perform the install of the new Intake. Make sure 2 hrs has passed before reconnecting the battery. The install might only take you an hour, but you’ll be want to be sure to wait the 2 hrs. This will ensure that any memory of the old parameters is cleared and when you reconnect the battery and start the engine, it will adjust to the new intakes characteristics without throwing a check engine light.

Question why did you have to wait 2 hours before reconnecting the battery?
This is to ensure that the trucks computer is completely discharged of power and will be forced to relearn the new parameters the intake creates. This way no check engine light will be generated either. 1 hour is probably enough, but 2 is a safe bet.

@@Vespawood1 I can’t remember 100% but I think all the infotainment and vehicle settings stayed intact.
Why do you have to turn off the filter notification on your dash?
My guess would be because the sensor is calibrated for the original filter elements lifespan and airflow rate

Have you noticed any change in mileage since installing it?
Hi Josh, maybe 1mpg. Not my main reason for purchasing it though. Once my exhaust comes in too, it may help a tiny bit too. The 6.2 is a beast so fuel efficiency is tough to claim, however the most range I got on 1 tank is about 400 miles or 650 km. The tank is smaller than my 2013 Sierra Denali short box too and that only gave me 340 miles or 550 km per tank.
@@Donslife I’ve got the Duramax so not apples to apples but I’m waiting for the S&B to come back in stock and doing some research on it.

I didn’t notice anything but more sound. Unless you get a tune these seem to be a waste of money, and you may be risking a warranty issue with your dealer, IMHO. No knock on this video at all just my experience

Hi Ryan, the answer is your warranty is fine, but I will also share this right from S&B's website:
Installing an S&B Intake Kit or Filter will not void your vehicle's warranty as long as you properly install and maintain your intake/filter.
It is illegal for a dealership to void your warranty based solely on the fact that you have installed an aftermarket product. Your rights are protected by the Consumer Product Warranties Law, often referred to as the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
If a dealer threatens to void your warranty, S&B will step in to assist you. "S&B commits that our customers will not be charged for a repair due to the manufacturer denying their warranty claim because of the presence of an S&B intake kit or OE replacement filter. We warrant that using an S&B intake kit or OE filter will not result in the denial of your vehicle’s warranty."

I noticed that on the S&B install video they left it off, they say it offers more performance.

I left mine on. I suspected I would dirty my filter much quicker due to the environment I live in. - Dusty
Oily filter contaminated the mass sensor in my opinion
The filter on my S&B intake is the dry type. No oil

I chose it after reading all of the reviews. I couldn’t find anyone who regretted it. I will be testing another intake though hopefully soon.

No tune necessary, that’s why the battery had to be disconnected for a minimum of 2 hours. This lets the truck figure out the right air to fuel ratios. Lovin’ mine

Hi Ryan, I researched this for quite sometime and chose the S&B. I couldn’t find one bad or mediocre review. Everyone seems to love theirs. The reviews were all for the 6.2L too

@@21Stevenp I did it for my wheels. You just order it to the UPS store’s address with your name on it. They hold it for a couple weeks and charge $10 for box that size.

Why did you have to wait 2 hours before reconnecting the battery?

No because part of the install with these trucks is to turn of air filter monitoring

You have time to go turn it off in the settings when you first turn the truck back on after reconnecting the battery. Did you disconnect the battery for a couple hours before restarting the truck? It is best that it relearns and adapts to the new airflow parameters.
Do you worry about the warranty loss with mods,like I do
I used to when I bought my first new vehicle. I waited until it was out of basic warranty before I did anything. I don’t worry so much anymore since they have to prove if your mod caused the failure.

Both are probably similar in results except the factory one requires a tune from the dealer (so I have read).
I agree both are good but if u want one that doesn’t require a tune go with s&b
Don't get it from s and b they have no customer service and will send you the wrong part

@@Donslife these cold air intakes always messed my cars performance up I stick to the way the OEM
@@steves9600 that’s too bad, I have ran aftermarket intakes on the following vehicles : 1996 Ranger, 2005 RX8 GT, 2012 Yukon Denali, 2013 Sierra Denali, 2016 Escalade and now a 2021 Sierra AT4. Sound and Throttle response has always been the biggest gain. Power and torque perhaps a little but not astonishing.
Cold air intakes on non tuned engines are laughable.
I am happy with my extra intake noise, throttle response and minuscule performance increases. Thank you for watching the video
So do you think that you gain nothing by simply installing one with no tune?
@@z28tinman in my opinion there are various gains across the board. A tune of the ECU would help get the absolute most out of an add on like this, but the design was meant to make improvements without a tune and without a Check Engine Light. I like mine.
