  • What do we say to the god of death? NOT TODAY!
Addie had a full spiritual journey with this episode
As one normally does the first time watching it
    From the choreography
    To the sets and effects
To the small quieter moments between beloved characters
To that INCREDIBLE score from Ramin Djawadi ( I know it kills me I couldn't use it too)
This episode isn't just one of the most impressive episodes of thrones, but one of the most impressive episodes in television ever!
    The absolute pinnacle!
And now we only have three more to go!
but so much for Addie to still see!

I always thought I never cared as much for Theon as others did. Until I found myself feeling a knot in the stomach during that Jon Theon "You're a Stark" scene, that hug Theon and Sansa share last episode and all the way to the long night where I realize how much I actually grew attached to the character.

@@macdaddy1376 You realize both Theon and Jaime's suffering tropes are from the books, those award winning books, right? Oh woops you didn't know that? You thought the show wrote that in and you tried to do a generic "muh bad writing"? Maybe just maybe you have the emotional intelligence of a toddler to understand what good or bad writing is. And made no sense? Judging the intent of characters is probably beyond your scope, so don't strain the braincells. You should focus on things that's more down your alley...like grievance about not getting that Jon Snow vs invincible all powerful ice demon 1v1 anime lightsaber sword fight for 8 episodes like Goku vs Frieza.

That camera cut from Sansa and Tyrion behind the wall to Jon coming out of hiding with his sword raised as the Ramin Djawadi score starts playing is pure cinematic gold. The darkness of this episode is obviously very frustrating but those last few shots during the climax scene are straight eye porn as someone who has a bit of a camera operating experience.

I'm not much of a battle aficionado. Don't really care for the strategies and tactics of medieval siege battles and all the technical stuff that could've been done better. Particularly in a battle with zombies. Plus I'm certainly very mindful of plotholes or theories that weren't paid off, like the Azor Ahoi Lightbringer angle, which was a gaffe. But from a purely sentimental perspective this episode had me line and sinker. I'm more than lenient towards technical errors when a journey can get me this impassioned. Hats off to Alfie Allen, the range of acting he showed playing Theon is unbelievable. The music is enchanting. Ramin Djawadi's score is chef's kiss. The ambience of "the Night King slow walking through the wintery forest with the red hue of the Weirwood tree contrasting the blue hour twilight sky" is everything I had always imagined and some more.

Melisandre talked the entire time about saving the world from the darkness. That was ALWAYS her purpose here. And yes she was misguided with Stannis and she made a huge mistake. But think about this. The show told us only death can pay for life. Bran woke up from a coma because Ned sacrificed Lady. Dany got her three dragons because she gave three lives. Her child, her husband, and the witch. Without Mel sacrificing the princess she would not have been able to bring Jon back. And the way she went out knowing her purpose was as served was so beautiful and heartbreaking. I’m sorry but Melisandre was a hero all along. 👩🏻‍🦰💪🏻👑🔥

It's funny how later you realize - Arya had pretty much been training for that very moment most of the series. All that stuff she learned from the faceless man in Bravos, all the lessons she gained or picked up along the way from the Hound... from way back in the first season with her dancing master and chasing cats...
It was mentioned a few times how she could sneak around, and in the scene where she finally meets back up with Jon he even says: "How did you sneak up on me?" She'd do that same trick later vs. the Night King.
So, in a way she was meant for that moment, as much as many people wanted/expected/hoped it would be Jon.

See what a great mix of emotions and excitement this episode brought out from you? That's pretty much every reactor ever. That sensation you get all through this is what matters the most and no amount of uncharitable purist cyncism can undo that. GoT only really mentioned Lightbringer once. During Stannis' introduction. It was never mentioned again in the present tense. I'm sure that's what will happen in the book but the show itself never hinted anything even in the ballpark of only Lightbringer killing Night King. Arya changes her face. I'm not gonna waste brain cells pretending to be baffled by how she got there. How did Jaqen kill all those Lannister guards? If anything I applaud the restraint they show by ending her revenge tour right here when they could've gone with the easiest disney fanservice afterwards. But of course everyone get furious about that too. It was said Drogo had forty thousand riders in his Khalesar. Even assuming that's exaggerated & included women & children, every Dothraki Khalesar put together would easily have close to a hundred thousand riders if not more. No wonder they were still around later. Cersei purchased twenty thousand Golden Company sellswords. The Lannisters armies were depleted by now. Together they wouldn't amount to half of Dany's army. Dany could afford to lose a lot and still field a greater number. I always cared about the throne more than the Walkers. I'm just glad that Night King got taken out as the last thing I wanted was that "Night King in 5" meta blackpill ending.

i watched a channel react to this episode just recently and that person had an even more passionate reaction than you had. they were in full breakdown mode and shit. this hits all the right emotional keys darkness notwithstanding. the tragedy of game of thrones is that its own so called "real fandom" decided the show was a failure and then backfilled everything to fit that narrative. the fact that it is the most watched live action tv show of all time with 60 emmys didn't matter because they had already stubbornly decided the author wanted something different. even tho one actually knows if that was true or if the major plot points were exactly what he had envisioned originally. if you're sufficiently uncharitable you can pick flaws in anything. i can sit here and pick apart the best season of Breaking Bad or Sopranos. but the difference is their own "real fans" didn't doom the show out of pure spite by ignoring all the good. When I watch reactions like yours and everytime they say how awesome this is, it infuriates me to no end thinking that shows who don't even deserve to be in the same stratosphere as Got are revered as masterpieces while Got is treated as the red headed stepchild. The ASOIAF cult is worse than Synder groupies and Star Wars elitists combined honestly.

as someone who was pretty freaking upset at how the last couple seasons went, last episode was my favorite of the season but this one was good also. The cinematography and music were just *chefs kiss*. My only complaints were that I did expect more main characters to die after the buildup so there was definitely some plot armor going on. Also, I didn't feel like Cersei should have been the final boss. I would have preferred her being dealt with first and then everything ending up North at Winterfell. I also didn't love that Arya killed the NK because it felt like it was Jon's destiny to be that Azor Ahai. However, I also didn't hate that it was Arya and I could buy it. What they did with Bran though ever since The Door episode was just rage inducing and stupid. Anyway, I think while there are valid complaints about this episode, there are plenty of redemptive qualities as well. Now the last three episodes.....

I enjoyed The Long Night. The moments with Theon and Jorah, Mellisandre and Arya, Sansa and Tyrion?? Man!! When Bran tells him "you're a good man" I lowkey tear up ngl. The first half is too dark with irritatingly shaky and rapid camera movements, but the second half is a lot less chaotic as the action settles down. The ending sequence is a whole mood! Theon's last stand, Bran and Night King staring face to face as the "The Night King" theme plays?! That stuff had me twisting in the winds. Naturally there's things that I would've done differently but overall I enjoyed the episode. The next episode is usually considered the weakest one. For good reason as it has that terrible second half. But honestly not only do I not hate the last two episodes, I kinda love em?!
