Being Prepared at a Busy Class Bravo

- Make sure you are prepared when you go into a busy airport and make sure you bring you’re "A" game. This made things a whole lot easier when we found ourselves flying into Dulles International Airport (IAD) on a busy Monday Afternoon.
We landed on 01R and due us being a Cessna 177 and parked at Signature Flight Support we were expecting ground to clear us to runway 01R and launch us from there, but,… ground had other plans.
I had never flown into to Dulles International before. I had the chart in front of me. It was a good thing too,… ground taxied us clear to the other side of the airfield for a departure on runway 30.
And just when you think everything is going well you need to be prepared for anything. A couple of things happened on this one. We had a HOT mag on the run up- which we made the decision to take off with and we had one of the strangest take off clearance I have ever had… so stick around to the end of the program to see how they cleared us - I think you’ll find this one pretty interesting… Enjoy!
Yes! I bought an airplane! This program has some initial numbers and breaks down the monthly expenses. Owning an airplane can be affordable... but the upgrades.... That is what will get me. Watch this program to find out what ownership costs.
Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for? - Навчання та стиль
Give way to the Cardinal….
Unreal taxi instructions, great job!!!
"Give way to the.. uhh.. Cardinal".... That was Epic!!! Awesome video. Can't wait to try that, but my closest Class B is ATL... Ugh.
Hi Ted! 70 y.o. student pilot here. Been flying a Piper Archer (30 hrs.) until today. My instructor (CFI and Nashville country singer Aaron Tippin) just got a ‘68 Cardinal. I had so much fun flying it. Much easier to get trimmed and she flies all by herself. Back up in the air tomorrow morning. Can’t wait. I’ll solo once I can consistently land the Cardinal. Thanks for all the support you give us old guys!
Absolutely!!! That is awesome!!! Congratulations!!! Thanks for watching!
That was super-fun to watch. Thanks for sharing!!!
"Give way to the Cardinal"...lol....such respect! Wow! Nice video! Handled it like a pro!
Glad you liked it!
That's the best road trip video I have seen in ages 🤣🤣.
LOL “well, they're not burning 8 gallons per hour”, true, but i am secretly jelious though 😉
Glad you enjoyed it
Very entartaining. Good job handling all this.
Great job!!
So great to watch you as a pilot. I would fly with you anytime and I don't say that lightly as I've had enough odd experiences in airplanes to make me warry of flying in small aircraft.
Thanks !!! We will go flying when you come down here !
That was entertaining to say the least. Thanks for sharing. Saludos !!!
Wow!
Nice one! You handled that great, particularly not getting too stressed or rushed. I really liked when you asked where Q4 was.
Thanks for the vid!
6:43 The best part of this video! 👍👍
Those “Mobile Lounge” vehicles are unique to Dulles. At least I haven’t seen them anywhere else.
Do you fly with an iPad and Foreflight or some other app? They would have really helped you find your way around the airport while taxiing. They geo-reference your plane on the ground. Once you get your taxi instructions, you can draw your route on the iPad and just follow the line.
Yes - I have ForeFlight and e airport diagram right on the left hand side … it was all pulled up - thanks for watching!
So, what happened when you got back to FL? Did you have that mag checked? Didn't you just have them both replaced not too long ago 🤔?
I had it checked out immediately when I landed back in Maryland and it turned out to be a loose grounding wire just a little bug to be shaken off after a complete engine overhaul and thank goodness it was not anything more than that! Thanks for watching!
Do all GA planes fly into Signature flight services? Looking to fly into DC in the spring.
Pretty much - At Dulles there’s only one FBO that you can go to another airports there are several different outfits available but at Dulles there’s only one. Just check the airport information diagram before you leave and know where you’re going to go. Also feel free to give them a call because they’re very helpful and will walk you through the process from everything from aircraft handling to fuel costs and services they have available. Thanks for watching!
