Yeah I still have VHS tapes of that run. It was like 1989 until sometime in the 90s. I was watching Batman and the pilot ep of H&M came on after. I saw the Coyote and was immediately curious. I soon fell in love with it and loved the show ever since. The Coyote got me interested in cars. The DVDs have scenes that were cut from those syndicated Family channel eps
It's on DVD. I have all 3 seasons and the book that someone put out about the series. All are somewhat rare though. The DVDs were made by VEI. I just checked and there's a box set of the entire series for $180 on ebay. I paid ~ $30 per season for the individual sets back in 2006.
This is the first time I've ever heard the full version of this song. My favorite TV Show theme just slightly ahead of The Fall Guy. Who'd be up for a Sammy Hagar remake of this?
I love this song! One of the best. Although, it needs a second verse. The first verse describes Hardcastle. So, a second verse should describe McCormick. Then add an instrumental bridge followed by the repeating chorus a half chord higher than the previous chorus.
Somewhere, right now... there's a person cranking this as they push some type "road-legal" sports machine to it's limits along an empty stretch of highway.😎
Who actually performed this song? I would guess Mike Post, Pete Carpenter and maybe a couple of session musicians played the instruments, but who sang?
This is a copy/paste of my recent comment; Mike Post and Stephen Geyer wrote the song and recorded by studio musicians rather than hiring Bachman Turner Overdrive (Takin' Care of Business, You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet) like Mike wanted to do because the band wanted a huge payday, like a million bucks or something, David Morgan was the singer, this was his only hit song, he and the other unknown musicians were paid their regular studio hourly wages.

I think it is a mix between a stereo cover and the only original recording that is circulating about the song; but that is unfortunately monaural. If you listen well, some parts are monaural, especially the chorus at the end of the song, and it is precisely that last chorus where that guttural and gritty voice is heard.
This is like the one used in the pilot, but with the sound mix as noted by others. They didn't use the time will tell part of the song except in the pilot and like one or two eps. And the way he sings the first half was only sang that way at the end of the pilot

Sad when TV theme songs from the 80s are better than most pop songs of 2024.
