@@madisongracedeluise you're short-sighted and superficial. Because they're both timeless pieces of art, and Tangled is just a modern child's entertainment, that's why. PS I LOVE Tangled, but it's nowhere near close to Sleeping Beauty and Bambi. Sorry.
@@noname76141 How? The main character in Sleeping Beauty only had 18 lines? Also, in Tangled the characters are more mature and less child like? I can agree that the animation is more original and creative in Dumbo and Sleeping Beauty, but the stories and characters don’t even compare to Tangled’s characters.
@@madisongracedeluise that's the point. This guy definitely knew what he did when he put Sleeping Beauty in 7th place. It's a masterpiece, in every aspect and it's my personal favorite since forever, for many many reasons. It has a brilliant story-telling and it's sad some people sleep on it. It's the movie where "lead" character falls into coma in the middle of the movie, and "side" characters and animation speak for themselves. That's not easy to make, and they made it brilliantly. Have you seen Hitchcock's Psycho? The lead character is killed in the beginning, the rest of the movie is brutally good! Same goes with this one. That's some good film-making. For me personally, Maleficent (as a character) alone overshadows Tangled by miles. I don't think in Tangled are characters less child-like, absolutely opposite. I would never compare these two, because I love both, they are from two different eras, they are made differently, they feel differently... And come on, Sleeping Beauty is made by Walt Disney himself. When it comes to Disney, I love and appreciate movies HE MADE. That's just my opinion! :) Tangled is my favourite 3d animated movie, so in the conclusion, it would be pretty high on my list too, but Sleeping Beauty is something untouchable
@@soggy8536 Honestly, I’m okay with Moana being high on the list because it is pretty damn good, albeit not one of Disney Animation’s best films because the Renaissance Era Disney films exist.
I've always liked the theory that Robin Hood is a movie in the Zootopia universe. And that the "actors" who played Robin Hood and Marian are his parents.
Couldn't Disagree more with Wreck It Ralph. A movie shouldn't be brought down just because it doesn't feel 'Disney' If that were the case, Disney would never be able to take risks and make change.
But the thing is, I’m ranking Disney movies against Disney movies. I’m ranking them AS Disney movies and nothing else, so there’s a list of core fundamentals that need to be covered and assessed. It’s great to take risks, and most of these movies do that - though there’s a way to do that while still staying within the realms of what makes something so inherently “Disney.” In my _personal opinon_ Ralph did not do that
@@DaveLeeDownUnder I'd put Ralph No.1 above No.2 but they are similar in quality overall and you only listed them next to each other which suggests you found them very, very close.
Brother Bear, The Fox and the Hound, Robin Hood, The Aristocats, Bolt, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Lilo & Stitch are all super underrated and need to be talked about more.
To be honest, I love this guy’s content, editing and his work, but he is one of the ranking you tubers I probably agree the least with. I think you put some movies that are actually very good way too low and some movies that are mediocre too high up

I respectfully disagree with the spot “Fox and the Hound” got. I feel that just because the animation wasn’t spot on doesn’t mean it is flawed. The story and character development wasn’t awkward or feel like it was forced, unlike many cliche disney movies. It knew when to make the audience cry, or to feel joy. And it taught a very wise lesson.
I watched the original “Fantasia” for the first time in 2014 (at 27) and was simply _blown away_ by the pure artistry of 1940 Disney. The movie is a grandiose experiment in showing the world what animation is capable of, blending all Disney had done before and cranking everything to a new level. It’s beautiful, sweeping, terrifying, hilarious, soothing, ferocious. It’s true cinematic art. Even though not paleontologically correct anymore, the “Rite of Spring” segment (with the dinosaurs) is still good. It’s an example of how animated realism could be achieved. Walt Disney’s mandate for the segment was not to anthropomorphize the dinosaurs, not to make them cute. Yet, they still manage to be expressive with great subtlety. This only underscores how a simple cartoon producer managed to do realism far better, with a prehistoric 2D animation, than a world-renowned moviemaker with all the latest and the best of CGI and VR moviemaking (I’m looking at you, Jon Favreau). Since this work, there has never been a better piece of dinosaur media on film.¹ I could go on forever about “Fantasia”; it’s really one of my favorite things made by Disney.² While not perfect, the movie is a masterpiece in my eyes.³ I urge any art fans to buy this incredibly-important, criminally-underseen piece of work, if only for the art.⁴ ___________________________________ ¹: What I like the most about the dinosaur sequence is that, due to a flub in knowledge, the Tyrannosaurus Rex had three fingers and fought a Stegosaurus (which is more impossible than a T. Rex encountering a human). Retroactively, this makes it an Allosaurus fighting a Stegosaurus, thus correct. ²: I still can’t believe this movie’s animated effects work so well for being 80 years ago. The lava and volcano scenes just really stuck out to me for so long. I think we, as a culture, have taken Disney animation for granted, but Walt Disney was definitely the Medici of the 20th century. At least as visual arts go. ³: I won’t lie, “Fantasia” has its longueurs-I’ve never cared much for the pastoral section-but at its best, it’s one of the impactful movies ever made. ⁴: I can’t imagine, though, how this project was green-lit in 1940. Even specifying (via the introductions to each segment, often cut) that the demon is Satan, and that the “Rite of Spring” segment is based on scientific fact-must have annoyed the ultra-Christian groups? *Update:* Edited because my “U” key is sticking!
The Enchiladdy - Haha! 😄 More like they have left the chat. The first “Jurassic Park” will always remain the best one in the series’ three-movie franchise. It’s a classic, and I love that the whole movie isn’t CGI. The others weren’t bad; they just didn’t captivate me like the authenticity of the original. That being said, “Rite of Spring” still takes the cake, for me. The art design of that particular segment was really stylish, with angular, almost industrial shapes for the dinos. Even in a post-“Jurassic” world, they hold up pretty well. 1988’s “Land Before Time” is a decent picture, too, but not as good as everyone has been saying, in my opinion. “Rite of Spring”-which came out 47 years earlier-had better animation, and it did dinosaurs better, overall. (Tyrannosaurus Rex vs. Stegosaurus is still one of the most underrated epic battles in animated movie. Steggy’s wild, terrified eyes, tail aloft, as he fruitlessly tries to fight off the T-Rex is the most horrifying sight. Just blind animal fear.) I won’t comment, though, on the 13 direct-to-video sequels and the short-lived TV series, as they exist only to pay the studio’s bills. (Funny thing is, both of these properties are owned by Universal.)
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi You do realize that America was predominately Christian, and that Christian ideology permeated every corner of American life, right? U.S. fundamentalist Christians tend to reject evolution and be conservative in political ideology. In short, they tend to be opposed to “tax on me” and taxonomy. Would you prefer if I used the term “creationist groups”? As if that would make any difference?
@@Geblawi Fantasia couldn’t even get the number of fingers on the T. rex right, while Land Before Time got the posture of the T. rex to occasionally be more accurate even before Jurassic Park did.
It always annoys me when people say that Alice in Wonderland's narrative is messy. Have any of them ever read the original book? That's exactly how the narrative is. Messy and wacko, which is what makes it so charming!!!

I don't think I can rank the entire Disney Animated Canon, so I'll just list my favorites of each era: Golden Age: Dumbo Package/Wartime Age: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad Silver Age: Peter Pan Dark/Bronze Age: Great Mouse Detective Renaissance: Beauty and the Beast (hard to choose between that, Lion King, and Aladdin) Experimental Era: Lilo & Stitch (with Emperor's New Groove as a very close second) Revival Era: Zootopia And as a bonus, here's my least favorite and only hated film of the DAC: Chicken Little
I audibly gasped when Treasure Planet came up so early. But I appreciate that Lilo & Stitch and Bambi are so high on the list. I feel like many people miss the nuance in those. In rankings of Disney films it becomes difficult to balance the artistry of the form versus the writing of the narrative. Although I ultimately agree with your number one. Taken as a whole, Fantasia's sequences were the only time Disney entirely embraced an amoral universe.
Yess Lilo and Stitch has soo much nuance!! Lilo literally has depression she lost her parents recently and her sister is doing everything she can to provide for her and not lose custody of her all the while stitch is on his own self discovery it’s actually really good??
I like when you mention that a movie doesn't have "that Disney feel" because I get what you mean and agree most of the time! I know that the formula is engineered in some way but I can't help but feel like I can tell when the animators/writers/storytellers were really caring for the project and that it meant something to them, which translates to the real Disney feel.
My favorites of each era. Golden Age: Fantasia. Unbeatable to in terms of how large of a spectacle it is. Defines "Disney Magic". Silver Age: Peter Pan. The second "boy's adventure" film and is very exciting. Has my favorite Disney villain. Dark Age: Winnie the Pooh. I enjoy the simplicity of it. It's truly important for everything it is. Renaissance Era: Aladdin. While Hunchback is a personal favorite of mine, Aladdin has a better story, amazing animation, and a larger heart. Post-Renaissance Era: The Emperor's New Groove. This film has one of the most iconic senses of humor any other Disney film has. Revival Era: Tangled. It was originally Big Hero 6. But I have a much greater appreciation for this film from its concept art to it's animation and story. And I think it has my favorite love story of all the Disney films.
Sad Mermaid wasn’t higher on your list as it has endured as my favourite animated film of all time. But as you always say, no two rankings will ever be the same. Was very surprised Fantasia is your personal favourite and happy to see Sleeping Beauty included in your top ten. Overall I enjoyed your thoughts on all the classic films. Thank you for taking the time to rank them 😊
Fantasia is also my all time fave and people usually look at me weird when I say that or say “oh you’re just trying to be different.” Nope. Been my favorite since I was 5 years old. 🤷🏻♂️
I think Sword and the Stone should be a bit higher. I think the humor was a bit more sly than other Disney movies of the period, and Merlin and Arthur have a well-developed relationship. A good cult classic.
Yeah it sounds like this guy is a common millennial. Like most millennials he can’t appreciate the older stories and considers emotional music with good values as boring. Shame on him because he obviously doesn’t know crap about good music or movies.
Even if it’s not that bad, Sword in the Stone is still the worst Silver Age film just because of how many of the 50s and 60s Disney movies are classics.
Good list, though personally, I like "Treasure Planet" and "Oliver & Company", "Meet the Robinsons" and a few others higher than yourself, I think. But I'd find it really hard to rank the movies overall as a lot of the Disney movies have a solid to great quality through the board. Can definitely see why "Chicken Little" is nearly the worst. I hate most of the characters in that one. XD One of my personal favorites is possibly "Aladdin". Always love coming back to it. Probably my typical joy for the Arabian Nights theme , the songs, humor, all simply my jam.

Some of the comments are being so rude when it is just his opinion. Proof humans have no respect and it’s so weird and embarrassing when they get mad at people for OPINIONS. Be a good respectful person and respect someone’s opinion when they dislike something you like or like something you dislike. People can like and dislike whatever they want and not everyone has to agree with them, just respect their opinion. So stop being so rude to him in the comments. I LOVE the fox and the hound so much and I love brother bear and I’m not even mad or rude at all that he ranked them so low so why are some people so angry over his opinion? It’s easy to not be angry over someone’s opinion and to be a good person. Who cares if someone doesn’t like something you like. Just like what you wanna like and don’t let others opinions affect you (you as in towards the people in the comments/anyone who gets angry at people’s opinions)

@@DaveLeeDownUnder Most people didn't, but not the point. I guess besides my love of the style, direction, characters and music-- the story really connected me with Jim in a way that I'm sure it did with all kids who only had one parent growing up. I didn't know my father at all, so I couldn't miss him or mourn his absence, but he did choose to not be in my life and ignore my existence. That's sadly a pretty common thing that leaves many kids in an odd place growing up. Of course it is all personal...but Black Cauldron should have been dead last. Sword and the Stone deserved a higher mark and Frozen should be top 20 at least.

I KNOW! HOW TF DOES DUMBO, BAMBI, AND SLEEPING BEAUTY SURPASS TANGLED???
SLEEPING BEAUTY LITERALLY HAS BARELY ANY PLOT
The majority of these movies were childhood classics for large amounts of people. It’s really hard to rank them because of that
@@madisongracedeluise you're short-sighted and superficial.
Treasure Planet deserved so much better😔

MOVIE THEORY:
Is Robin Hood An ancestor of Nick Wilde?
I've always liked the theory that Robin Hood is a movie in the Zootopia universe. And that the "actors" who played Robin Hood and Marian are his parents.
Tyler I thought Nick Wilde was Robin Hood
They said that he is and that Lion mayor is Simba's great great son and elephant in ice cream is Dumbo's
DISNEY THEORY:
Are Robin Hood, Chicken Little and Zootopia connected?
What about the fox from Pinocchio?
Couldn't Disagree more with Wreck It Ralph. A movie shouldn't be brought down just because it doesn't feel 'Disney' If that were the case, Disney would never be able to take risks and make change.
But the thing is, I’m ranking Disney movies against Disney movies. I’m ranking them AS Disney movies and nothing else, so there’s a list of core fundamentals that need to be covered and assessed.
It’s great to take risks, and most of these movies do that - though there’s a way to do that while still staying within the realms of what makes something so inherently “Disney.” In my _personal opinon_ Ralph did not do that
Dave Lee Down Under fair enough
@@DaveLeeDownUnder Eh, it still doesn't make sense. Are you ranking them as corporate products or as quality films?

I respectfully disagree with the spot “Fox and the Hound” got. I feel that just because the animation wasn’t spot on doesn’t mean it is flawed. The story and character development wasn’t awkward or feel like it was forced, unlike many cliche disney movies. It knew when to make the audience cry, or to feel joy. And it taught a very wise lesson.

It's my favourite movie and will forever be!!!
@@marthacordingley3336 SAAAAME!
That is one of my favourite
I Love 101 Dalmations.😍
YES IT IS
I watched the original “Fantasia” for the first time in 2014 (at 27) and was simply _blown away_ by the pure artistry of 1940 Disney.
Since this work, there has never been a better piece of dinosaur media on film.¹
I could go on forever about “Fantasia”; it’s really one of my favorite things made by Disney.² While not perfect, the movie is a masterpiece in my eyes.³
I urge any art fans to buy this incredibly-important, criminally-underseen piece of work, if only for the art.⁴
___________________________________
¹: What I like the most about the dinosaur sequence is that, due to a flub in knowledge, the Tyrannosaurus Rex had three fingers and fought a Stegosaurus (which is more impossible than a T.
"There has never been a better piece of dinosaur media on film"
*Jurassic Park and Land Before Time have entered the chat*
“Ultra Christian” what happened to respect all religions? What’s wrong with Christians disagreeing? They’re not of this world
@@BigSmoke-xh5hi You do realize that America was predominately Christian, and that Christian ideology permeated every corner of American life, right? U.S. fundamentalist Christians tend to reject evolution and be conservative in political ideology.

I don't think I can rank the entire Disney Animated Canon, so I'll just list my favorites of each era:
Golden Age: Dumbo
Package/Wartime Age: The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
Silver Age: Peter Pan
Dark/Bronze Age: Great Mouse Detective
Renaissance: Beauty and the Beast (hard to choose between that, Lion King, and Aladdin)
Experimental Era: Lilo & Stitch (with Emperor's New Groove as a very close second)
Revival Era: Zootopia
And as a bonus, here's my least favorite and only hated film of the DAC: Chicken Little
I audibly gasped when Treasure Planet came up so early.
Yesss I love Bambi and Treasure Planet and nobody ever talks about either of them
Yess Lilo and Stitch has soo much nuance!!
And I think it has my favorite love story of all the Disney films.
winnie the pooh is a revival era film. i think you mean the many adventures of winnie the pooh.
Thank you for taking the time to rank them 😊
Fantasia is also my all time fave and people usually look at me weird when I say that or say “oh you’re just trying to be different.”
Nope. Been my favorite since I was 5 years old. 🤷🏻♂️
The little mermaid is my fav of al time too
I think Sword and the Stone should be a bit higher.
@@aspieangel1988 Me and my brother are millennial and we wore out the the tape for Sword in the Stone. We won't be the only ones.
XD
One of my personal favorites is possibly "Aladdin". Always love coming back to it. Probably my typical joy for the Arabian Nights theme , the songs, humor, all simply my jam.
Here's my favourite films made by Walt Disney Animation Studios:
Golden Era: Pinocchio, Dumbo and Bambi
Wartime Era: Fun And Fancy Free
Sliver Era: Alice In Wonderland, Peter Pan and The Jungle Book
Browse Era: The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh and The Great Mouse Detective
Renaissance Era: The Little Mermaid, Bueaty And The Beast, Aladdin and The Lion King
Post Renaissance Era: The Emperor's New Groove and Lilo And Stitch
Modern Era: Tangled, Frozen and Moana
Also Dave can you rank every Pixar movie from each era in different video please?
@CyDragonGM Bro, no, just no.
Finally someone that really appreciates Snow White and Pinocchio, those films now days are really underrated and there's people that hate them, thank you for this amazing top Q-Q
Golden Age: Pinocchio
Wartime Era: The Three Caballeros
Silver Age: Peter Pan
Dark Age: Aristocats
Renaissance Era: Beauty and the Beast

JCL Kaytwo, and I also learned Princess and the frog is somehow better than Wreck it Ralph, Zootopia, Moana, Tangled, Frozen 2, Big Hero 6 and Frozen 1
Well that applies to me not you
@@joeyjerry1586 princess and the frog is definitely plausible, even if it isn't the best in my opinion. chicken little is just a bad movie.

Thank you!
If I had a dollar for every time you used the word “muddled” to describe your reasoning for disliking a movie...
Just did a word-search on my script. I used the word "muddled" a total of 4 times. So, you'd have $4, probably enough for a cup of coffee.
Also, I don't "dislike" any of these movies (except, perhaps the bottom two.)
Dave Lee Down Under yep, despite what everyone says chicken little is a mean spirited mess.

Tarzan, Treasure Planet, and Atlantis are some of my favorite movies from the second dark age and renaissance era. I've always LOVED Hunchback of Notre Dame. I screamed when Beuaty and the Beast made the top 5! Belle was that one princess I'd dress up as in my childhood. Though it lacks historical accuracy, Pocahontas has such stunning artwork and beautiful character design not to love. And Frozen II was amazing, from astounding songs to advance anumation and clothing. I'm glad you picked Fantasia as no. 1 Dave, since it was a time when animation was still young and growing. I can't believe Disney has made 58 animated features in the past 81 years. I'm excited to see what else they'll make.

"Treasure Planet: It's an exciting, visually stunning adventure full of great heart, fantastic characters and a terrific cast!"
So, why did it rank # 47?
Because I liked 46 other movies better than it??
Not that difficult to comprehend. I like pretty much every single one of these movies. Just because it’s lower on the list doesn’t mean I don’t like it, it just means I like the movies above it _more_ .
Last night I saw treasure planet and now I see you talking about it so cool!
It’s weird that it was so much lower than Atlantis: The Lost Empire, because most consider Treasure Planet to be superior.
Wow David that must have taken a lot of Dedication to rank all 58 animated films.
Even it's hard to rank all 58 of them since I prefer ranking them from the Time Era.
What's the time era
Good job for all your hard work, Dave!
Why Zootopia so low. HOW THE HELL IS RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET OVER FUCKING ZOOTOPIA
Strangely Sword in the Stone is near the top for me. My wife and I are going through them all... we just watched Aristocats, so yeah we’re in the Dark Age... also, I tend to put most of the wartime era films at the bottom... as well as Alice and Wonderland... love certain aspects of the film but overall it’s just hard to watch.
A like from Dan! Woo hoo!
I'm curious if you think that all of the outdated 90s cultural references in Hercules will hold it back from being timeless as time goes on just like Ralph Breaks the Internet.

Golden Era: 101 Dalmatians
Dark Era: The rescuers
Renaissance: Beauty and the beast

@@DaveLeeDownUnder
Most people didn't, but not the point.
This film was a pat on the shoulder that said 'I understand, but don't let that hold you back or define your story'. I really needed that growing up.
Obviously this is a list of your own personal ratings for these Disney films, so I don't expect you to have the same circumstances or ties to it that I do. I just found it funny when the main reason it seemed ranked so low for you is because of a lack of the exact thing that first made me love it. Seems that connection is a monumental reason for the cult following this film still has today when it was otherwise overlooked originally and forgotten by most that don't share that connection.

Yesss 101 Dalmations top 3 😍😍😍
to me... Pinnochio is a REALLY EFFED UP movie.... the villains get what they want in the end and there are no repercussions... including one of the most insidious disney villains ever created... the coachman... (he is so evil you dont even know his name! HECK THE DEVIL FROM FANTASIA WAS NAMED CHERNABOG!!!!)
Dinosaur is 10 / 10
@@bxbo7624 plot wise it wasnt good... visual wise for something in the early 2000's with cgi dinosaurs in a real world landscape (definitely is south america like argentina or chile where those places were filmed) even if it has not aged well... it was mind blowing for the time.
I’m glad you gave Black Cauldron (my favorite one) at least a 48th place!
Of course it is all personal...but Black Cauldron should have been dead last. Sword and the Stone deserved a higher mark and Frozen should be top 20 at least.
i didn't like the Black cauldron either, it's like a souless movie with bland characthers and a world of plot holes.
Disney is Disney. I don’t care how the film performs at the box office, good or bad...I’ll still enjoy it because I appreciate the work and effort put into these movies. My all time favourite is without a doubt the hunchback of Notre dame. Best Disney soundtrack in my humble opinion.
He and I have very different lists lol 😳 To each his own 🤷🏻♀️ Man half of his top 10 aren’t even in my like top 20.
Alice in Wonderland and The Little Mermaid are my all time favs! Love the rides at Disneyland and California Adventure too
I just went through watching all of these in chronological order. It’s super hard to rate movies from different eras, so I commend you. I ended up with a very different list, but at least we both hate Chicken Little.
