TaLisha Grzyb, 28, from Delaware was born with congenital muscular dystrophy, but she has never let her condition slow her down. She's a college graduate, mother to three kids and was crowned 2020’s Miss Wheelchair Delaware. But TaLisha didn’t have an easy start to life. “At first, I was not expected to live past three days, then three months”, TaLisha told Truly. “It’s caused me to be wheelchair-bound, basically since birth.” TaLisha wants to be known as a ‘disability influencer’ and has her own UA-cam channel called, ‘Rolling Through Life With TaLisha’.

I won a fake small trophy for winning mostly all of the wheelchair races back in summer school in 2008, my old wheelchair was very fast and this only goes very fast at night, but in the morning goes not too fast or not too slow. People should never give up on anything, anything is possible just turn your negative to positive and you will be unstoppable and there's nothing wrong with trying your best and if you can't do it then there is nothing wrong with asking for help, just try yourself and after you will see how it will be easy to do it on your own

@@TheRena1969 there are different types of muscular dystrophy that when you are born, you are able to walk until I don't know how old you have to be to start losing your strength and others are born not to walk at all and some can feel their legs and some can't. I was born not walking at all, but I can feel my legs

It sucks that disabled people always have to prove our whole life to people. We live a regular life just like anyone else except we have some limitations. Why is that such a hard concept for people to understand?
My best friend had MD and we literally did everything together. Only thing she couldn't do with me was play sports or go hiking. We'd get in the pool together and do everything else. I loved her so much and never saw any limitations with her. She was my everything. She went to college, had jobs, significant others. Completely normal.
So I completely agree with you, you have a completely normal life, with a few things that need to be adjusted.

@@RocknRollDina Not true. I have a family member who has mild cerebral palsy, they are mobile, can do things for themselves but has slight tremors and sometimes their muscles in one leg will tighten. I have seen people talk to her in condescending tones, call her "special" and one time she was about to fill out a form and the post office lady asked if my cousin wanted me or the post office lady to fill out an envelope for her in a tone as if speaking to a child. My cousin at time was 23 years old. My poor cousin gets so frustrated and angry. She is so intelligent, has brilliant conversations and is like anyone else, drives, owns a house, works a stable job, has a degree and is happily married to an able bodied guy and has kids. There is people in this world that don't look beyond the disability.

I wasn’t supposed to live passed 24 hours. I had a stroke then after I survived I was supposed to be a vegetable. I am functioning almost like a normal person. Independent able to walk and talk. I start college in the fall where I will be living on campus. I plan to go to medical school and become a pediatric epilepsy neurologist.

Imagine how grateful her parents must have been, thinking they would have to witness the death of their baby, but instead she grew up into a wonderful young woman! I would have wept with happiness at every day I saw my baby grow strong and happy instead of passing away. It's so amazing that her doctors were able to save her life and bring so much joy into the world! :)

The term, "abled differently" is well... misleading and kind of condescending. People who use this term usually don't realize how rude and offensive it actually is to a disabled person. Disabled is just disabled. We don't need to water down or sugar coat that word, nor does a disabled person want to hear "your just abled differently" said to them.
If Talisha describes herself as disabled, which she does many times in this video alone, then that's exactly what it is, and just leave it at that man.
She has heart. Spirit. A lot of heart and spirit. I am physically healthy but am so damn depressed it makes everything difficult and sometimes nearly impossible. Esspecially friendships and love which seem to be the only answer to some level of fleeting comfort. She is truly abled differently. I'm working on my ability to live despite my own weakness
The intention is good, but a lot of folks take pride in & prefer to be called disabled. Some feel like it belittles them, others feel like their disability is part of their identity & they don’t want to hide it or call it something it’s not. Some people don’t care either way, but it’s important not to decide for them & respect how they want to be referred to.
My mum is disabled due to having a stroke when I was 2 weeks old, I never got to know what she was like before I was born, she was in and out of hospital for 4 years and but she is still a full time mum, she can’t move her left side of her body and struggles to talk but it really just shows how strong disabled people are. ❤️

My sister has MS it started her 4th year in The US Army and I know the issues she deals with. She is shut in and her husband left her but she is brave and fights on. Love you guys not because your different, but because you love the kids and each other. Big love

This woman is amazing. All of these people opening up about their stories and strengths and struggles - it's so important. Knowledge about other people's lives, especially those that are living with hardships unimaginable to most others; it's all we need. We have to educate ourselves and our kids and there's no other way to do this than to have brave people like TaLisha come forward and talk about their experiences and open our eyes to their world. Wishing her so much happiness and success.
