I'm in shock about what nurse said to her. Like ma'am have you look at her, she is so gorgeous, she looks like she just walked out of a fantasy book ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nurse does not belong in the medical fields if she holds such ableist attitudes! I did not realize the extent wheelchair users can still engage in physical activity until I joined a disability rights organization. For many things, it is just a matter of learning how to do them differently
She turned a bad situation into something good, that she enjoys, and that others also enjoys, like the children on birthdaysparties as she said. True inspiration. ❤
You are so right❤. To find something what gives joy is important to live a positive life. She' s really a pretty mermaid and gives hope to lot of other disabled persons through her braveness to go under water without normal legability.
That is an amazing story!! The way she handled her disability and found something that makes her happy is just amazing! She is beautiful! For people saying those negative things to and about her KARMA!! You will get yours someday!
I understand your dislike of the ill-spirited ridicule and verbal abuse of this wonderful woman. It is agreed that it is very nasty, and you are right to feel angered by it. Although I do not believe in Karma, which by the way is far more complicated than culture has portrayed, I would caution you on wishing ill on those who are doing evil acts. To want misfortune to come to these people is, in my view, true hatred as it is wanting the worst for them. The alternative is to love which is to me wanting the best for them, and that does not mean them getting what they want, but what they need which is for them to repent. As an ex-soldier, I believe that sometimes bad things should come to people doing bad things, but I believe it should never be done because we wish it to be as if we do, we set ourselves along a path that can be even worse than the people tormenting her. Again, You are right that these people are doing the wrong thing, and it absolutely disgusts me too, but my word of advice, take it or leave it, is to want the best for people (to return to righteous behavior and thought) rather than for they to receive punishment.
One theme I see in so many of these videos is that kind and wonderful people not only have to deal with the pain and limitations their disability causes, but also the cruelty of strangers.
Yes it’s true. My daughter is 7 and is disabled and the comments you hear and very upsetting. Thankfully my daughter is just a love bug and bubbly and doesn’t realize when people say bad things but I am her advocate and her voice at these times when she needs defending. It’s like you’re constantly defending your condition. Like you said it’s hard enough being disabled that it is horrible having to deal with the comments
This is FANTASTIC! I'm still trying to find a way to turn mine into a positive or at least compromise with myself. It's been twenty years, but I'll find my comfort.
To everyone reading this Keep going. No matter how stuck you feel, no matter how bad things are right now, no matter how hopeless & depressed you feel, no matter how many days you have spent wishing things were different. I promise you won't feel this way forever. Keep going..🙏Bless my day with a follow🤲🏼 it mean a lot
I can't believe a nurse said that! Did that ever stop to think that her husband married her because she is beautiful and she has a very positive attitude. She is such an inspiration, that people with disabilities can do anything.
What a wonderful inspiring girl! I'm impressed by how she came up with the way to cope with her disability and find an activity she really enjoys and inspires other people. A really good example to follow, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
From a disabled sister to another, doctors can either be the most wonderful and caring people or disgusting bullies. It’s a gamble ever time you go see one and that story about that nurse made me cry. So relatable!
I had a bad accident several years ago. I now use a cane to walk. I have issues with dizziness and other issues. That change between who you were to who you are now is really difficult. I think she is amazing, turning her disability into something positive. Ignore the haters, you are awesome!
As long as I am the Captain, Helena the mermaid will always have a place at the Hampton Blackbeard Pirate Festival. She truly embodies our cornerstone commitment of always being a children and family-friendly event.
This is a really clever way to make the most out of a condition that gradually takes away your ability to walk. It makes her happy and she's really good at it. Also, I love how she does it for kids. Think of how much she brightens kids' days.
I don’t understand why people are so rude. I have severe chronic pain throughout my body and then developed gout in my foot I couldn’t walk. It was in excruciating pain for a week. On the second week, I had to use crutches and people were giving me the side eye. Thankfully, my friend was helping me because no one would even hold the door for me. I can’t believe nurse asked if she tricked her husband into marrying her. She’s a gorgeous woman you can tell he’s in love with her and she seems very sweet.
One of friends have the same illness. She went to many hospitals but nothing helpful. She ended up using natural therapy and be able to walk again and be able to hold a cup after few years of treatment (of course very unstable and need to walk with a walking stick, and in bad days she can’t walk but majority of time she can). She’s now having two kids and own her own small clothing store.
I have CMT too, fortunately not as severe. I was diagnosed at 8 years old and was put into physical therapy, and i have been in physical therapy for 12 years now. I love seeing people who also have CMT, because it makes me remember that we are not alone.
This video had me smiling in the end, at how happy mermaiding is making her. I'm so happy she found something she's passionate about and brings her joy ❤
I wish she was in my area. I would love to hire her for the events and festivals I'm involved with. Can you even inagine what it would mean to a little boy or girl who would see her in her chair and realize they truly can do or be anything they want! I love it!
What an absolutely inspiring video, thank you for this! I am a stage 4 cancer thriver (currently miraculously cancer free) mermaid in Hawaii and can totally relate to this! Mahalo!
A pox on all those nasty people who opened their mouths to criticize her and only STUPID came out. What that nurse said to her was horrendous! She's a free spirit under the water. Good for her for moving forward and not letting the disease get the best of her.
Thank you for sharing your story and your life and passion with us. You inspire me. I am really struggling with social anxiety and some other mental health issues, and seeing other people embrace the parts of them that are deemed imperfect or different gives me hope that I can one day do the same.
Dear lady you are a superstar you are an inspiration thank God for people like you. To have the confidence ability wherewithal to create a beautiful positive life for yourself kudos to you and I personally thank you
❤😊 When I look at you, I do not see a Disability I see a perfect mermaid/woman with no flaws whatsoever.♡❤😊❤ And the most beautiful person in the world that Is you😊❤!
I really hate people that judge people with disabilities it makes me so mad but this person right here basically just brighten my day because I'm going to be a professional mermaid to one day I might need her myself and I'll be even more happier keep you happy and if you don't do don't be sad and it's funny because she left about that they make fun of her but she just laughs and I'm very happy it makes me happy so much that she's actually being a professional mermaid and makes me cry when I see people being happy^-^
Honestly being a wheelchair user who isn’t paraplegic isa nightmare socially. I was in a chair for five years and the number of dirty looks I got for moving my legs was unreal. No, I’m not faking, I’m just not what you assumed. I remember bringing a doctor’s note to school to get out of gym class and some kids reported me for having forged the note. It blew so out of proportion that my doctor needed to meet with the principal. I never said I was paralyzed. I didn’t even say I was incapable of standing up or walking a few steps. All I said was that I needed the chair. And y’know what? I want to be a merman, so let’s go.
She is so special inside and out and so proud of her and and she is amazing mermaid and so strong strength incredible human and unbelievable and course and I appreciate her so much beautiful inside and out ❤
I hope that that nurse lost her job, wtf? I want a nurse with compassion, not someone who is judging a person like that. And Helena, you are a stunning mermaid.
Very neat. I like how he picks her up and helps her and supports her. I think that's every mermaids dream come true. As the only mermaid in my state, I'd love to have my Shawn home with me to pick me up and be with me during my mermaiding sessions:)
At 19 I had pain in my left ankle and my feet rolled slightly inward. After an MRI and nerve conduction tests, an orthopedist diagnosed me with CMT. I’d never heard of it before either. I’m 51 now. Over the years, at least two different orthopedists said I don’t have CMT. 🤷🏻♀️My ankles are kinda wobbly sometimes and I tear ligaments easily, but otherwise nothing is different for me.
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL THAT NURSE SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER THEN TO SAY ANYTHING LIKE THAT OR TO JUDGE SOMEONE BECAUSE OF A DISABILITY I HOPE SHE TOLD SOMEONE WHAT SHE SAID AND SHE WAS FIRED IMMEDIATELY ‼️‼️🤬
Hello I've been watchin your story & I onky wanted to say that God give you another way to live and thats importand it doesnt matter what other people say or think you are a God given wonderfull person and let that be an example to other people may God bless you and your husband God bless you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I wish I could be a professional mermaid. I do it for fun currently. And it is so much fun to swim with a tail. You are so beautiful and in my personal belief are so blessed! I actually am writing a mermaid book because I love swimming like a mermaid so much. I hope to publish it when I finish. This is such an inspiration!
I'm in shock about what nurse said to her. Like ma'am have you look at her, she is so gorgeous, she looks like she just walked out of a fantasy book ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nurse sounds insecure and jealous of beautiful women
That nurse should be fired.
I ran here to say that!
Nurse does not belong in the medical fields if she holds such ableist attitudes!
I did not realize the extent wheelchair users can still engage in physical activity until I joined a disability rights organization. For many things, it is just a matter of learning how to do them differently
she is so wrong for saying that , it broke me to hear her say that
She turned a bad situation into something good, that she enjoys, and that others also enjoys, like the children on birthdaysparties as she said. True inspiration. ❤
I agree cause she's awesome that nurse was so wrong n asking about your family. To me your amazing thank you for sharing your wonderful story.
You are so right❤. To find something what gives joy is important to live a positive life. She' s really a pretty mermaid and gives hope to lot of other disabled persons through her braveness to go under water without normal legability.
She is amazingly brave and strong. I am glad she found something that makes her happy

I'm a disabled mermaid too, and also in a powerchair, you go you amazing 👏 lady,I've been mermaid for 10 years x❤💜
I love her zest for life! Her husband is a sweetheart too 🤗
She's a friend of mine in the community I got to meet her at MerMagic Con this year and Helena was amazing truly touched by her story.
This is FANTASTIC! I'm still trying to find a way to turn mine into a positive or at least compromise with myself. It's been twenty years, but I'll find my comfort.

The sincerity of this comment was ruined by you asking for follows
I can't believe a nurse said that! Did that ever stop to think that her husband married her because she is beautiful and she has a very positive attitude. She is such an inspiration, that people with disabilities can do anything.
That nurse should be fire for telling her that
Agreed. I hope she reported the nurse.
I agree
Agreed
What a wonderful inspiring girl! I'm impressed by how she came up with the way to cope with her disability and find an activity she really enjoys and inspires other people. A really good example to follow, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
She's such a beautiful mermaid!! Don't mind haters and negative comments. Do you, be you!
This is so awesome. So happy for her and so thankful that you reached out and featured her on your channel.

You go girl, you mad a bad situation in to a great situation, love this and forget the haters 😊❤🧜♀️
If you can find something to take away the pain and depression for awhile, why not.
Unless its something that will be harmful for you in the long run like drug addiction
Woah i never see ANYTHING about CMT so this is amazing
As long as I am the Captain, Helena the mermaid will always have a place at the Hampton Blackbeard Pirate Festival. She truly embodies our cornerstone commitment of always being a children and family-friendly event.
Much love and support to this person. She’s a beautiful mermaid
I'm a minute in and already this is incredible. Good for her making her situation flourish as a literal mermaid. 🙏
This is a really clever way to make the most out of a condition that gradually takes away your ability to walk. It makes her happy and she's really good at it. Also, I love how she does it for kids. Think of how much she brightens kids' days.
She’s so pretty. and my eyes were watering when I heard that a NURSE said that to her.😢❤
I don’t understand why people are so rude. I have severe chronic pain throughout my body and then developed gout in my foot I couldn’t walk. It was in excruciating pain for a week. People say the same thing with my almost 19 year old daughter Sadie.
Sadie was born with a spinal problem and she needs her wheelchair.
My favorite part is when she says "and it's covered in glitter, so".
This makes me think about my "problems" and how tiny they are compared to other peoples problems.. she really did make lemonade out of lemons! 😊❤
Just ❤ honest and so genuine that you are being!
She’s so pretty! Good for her ❤
Keep going for your dreams and don't stop doing what u r doing reaching your whole community!
This reminds me of the little mermaid but i like it❤
Truly beautiful and creative. What that nurse said was evil and so nasty. Just keep doing what you'r doing and f the haters.
Wow❤ she is incredible and gorgeous and brave ❤
I wonder if she can swim underwater as well and enjoy greater mobility . She looks gorgeous and sounds like she turned lemons into lemonade !
she looks like Rose from Titanic ❤ Shes gorgeous. Just shows that passion can win over any disability we have. This inspired me
She is so special inside and out and so proud of her and and she is amazing mermaid and so strong strength incredible human and unbelievable and course and I appreciate her so much beautiful inside and out ❤
She is amazing !!!!!!❤
