- Greta Van Fleet performing "Highway Tune" and "Black Smoke Rising" at Rams Head Live in Baltimore (May 19, 2017). Great performance from what is shaping up to be a great band (every song they performed and every song on their first EP is great). Recorded on my ol' Note 3. I kept camera low as a courtesy to the shorter people behind me.
My 27 year old, classic rock loving daughter, came in to the room and asked me my opinion of this new band she heard about. She began playing it from her phone, and I had no knowledge of who or what was going to start playing. Considering it was coming from her phone, I didn't expect much. But as it started, it was unmistakable. I heard the vocals, from someone who I thought was either Robert Plant, or some reincarnation of him. Then feeling the driving intensity of the music, brought me back to the mid 70's, and was absolutely astonished at what I heard. Highway Tune, and Black Smoke Rising. Songs that I perceived to be written and played by seasoned musicians, were in fact, kids, fresh out of, and still in high school. I am shocked and blown away by this, very young, very talented band. These guys have the talent to not only succeed, but to put their stamp on today's Rock and Roll. Ringo wasn't kidding when he wrote, "It don't come easy". It really doesn't. But with unrelenting drive, some serious motivation, and the over abundant talent they all seem to possess, if they dedicate, and put their whole selves into it, the sky's the limit.
Hey, Robert Plant isn't actually dead. Pretty hard to reincarnate when your current self is still alive.
WTF is this?!? Our local radio station just played Highway Tune, and I immediately HAD to know who these guys are. They are really, really good. No, I mean awesome. Amazing that I never heard of them until just now. The vocalist just NAILS the Robert Plant sound, and the playing is TIGHT. Will most definitely be keeping an eye on these guys. Stellar stuff!
I remember the boys spending the night and bringing their instruments and playing in my basement. You could definitely see their love for music and the influence their dad had on the music they play. I am very impressed with the music off of this album. Give hell on tour boys
I think the boys have a great future, and heard their dad play harmonica with them on one video and he is pretty good himself.
No one can ever replace Robert and the boys (Led Zeppelin)...but my god these guys are damn close. Thanks for bringing back Rock 'n Roll....keep it alive boys
The mark of a great band is when they sound as good (or better) live than they do recorded. Amazing. Love this band.
Susan Lloyd I agree--no studio tricks, just raw talent. I will say that some good bands can sound bad depending on equipment or acoustics of the venue. Once when I saw Dream Theater and Joe Satriani at Pier 6 and had seats probably about 2/3 of the way back, the sound was all muddied and echoed weird and just sounded awful. Saw them another time at same venue, fifth row back, directly in front of Petrucci (guitarist), and they sounded incredible.
I have been to a couple of small venues where you can barely hear the vocals if you are up front, but can hear them fine if you move back.
This is one of the best live videos of GVF. Oh my, they are amazing!
This show was AMAZING
Highway Tune is definitely a kick ass song. Hopefully, it's a sign of even better things to come from these guys.
I was there that night just to see these guys and I had the pleasure of meeting them after the show. They are simply wonderful.
awesome. thanks for sharing. I can't get enough of these guys.
FINALLY!!!... REAL YOUNG TRUE ROCKERS!!!... STRIPED DOWN REL TALENT!! AND YOUNG!!!... THESE KIDS ARE GONNA MAKE IT!!!
Thanks for sharing a live version of these little badasses!!!!
Guitar, bass, drums, and kick ass singer, that’s ROCK N ROLL baby....wouldn’t be mad at them if they threw in a little keys too. I grew up on classic rock in the late 70’s and these young guys are giving me hope it’s not all lost!
These guys are AMAZING!!! Thank you so much for sharing.
I was there and can't wait to see them again. Best new band I've heard in years!
Yeah. There seems to be a number of good rock bands in the past few years. Rival Sons first perked my ears up a few years ago, and since then there's been a few others that caught my attention. Greta Van Fleet is definitely shaping up to be a VERY good band, and I'm looking forward to hearing more from them.
God damn they sound clean live. I hope these kids go far.
Oh it's good to be the king. Thank you for bringing back the sound from my youth.. I thought for sure Rock and Roll was dead, it was just in a coma for the last forty years.
im really fuckin impressed....wow!!!
These guys put on a helluva live show, and their double EP is excellent. Seeing them twice this summer and cannot wait for the LP!
Instant fan after hearing 'em live today on Jonesy's jukebox - Blues based hard rock!
I'm hooked! Can't wait to see them perform here in Oct. at The Troubadour
deliciousramen We're going to see them again at the end of August.
Sean Boyer man that's awesome, have fun
The singer and guitar player are 21 year old twin brothers, their 18 year old brother plays bass, and the drummer is their 18 year old friend. The drummer and bass player are seniors in high school!! The band is from Frankenmuth Michigan. Here is an article all about them: www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2017/05/catching_up_with_greta_van_fle.html
I read the link. They just graduated from h.s. in June. They are amazing, especially considering their young ages.
Thanks for the live upload.. Im anxious to hear their next release of 4... Great sound..
Great Video of Live Greta! They have got it! The Swagger and Rock n Roll confidence! They deliver the goods live!
I just love this young band! talented beyond their years!
Love You Guys. Im a Fan now. MeMe Tune. Detroit USA
The comparisons to Led Zep go behind just the vocal and melodic similarities. Zeppelin had a presence that made them stand alone. They were unchallenged as the #1 band of their time. No one compared. I get a similar feeling about Great Van Fleet. There is currently no one like them, they write catchy hook filled songs and are developing a confident stage persona unique to them. I saw the same potential when GNR came on the scene and they dominated rock music as well.
GRETA VAN FLEET!
Them opening for foo fighters on tour would simply be an amazing concert
Awesome!!!
Wow!! Awesome!!
I just got my Greta T-shirt. Black shirt white letters. No question about what my shirt is about. I wear my love for rock and my love for Greta.
Magical
Thanks for sharing
the voice guy is incredible, and the strumental sounds same as te video.Bring the cd to Argentina pls jhahahaha
So strong. Watch the end. So strong.
Soooooo Great !!!
Thanks for posting this. Darn! I missed this show because I did not know about this band, but they are returning to Baltimore in Oct. and I have my ticket this time!!
Warrogue1 We're going to the DC show in August and might see about the October show as well. Right now it's cheaper to see them than to go to a movie.
I did not hear about DC show until sold out, so I'm happy that I will see them at Ottobar in Baltimore, a great venue. Lots of great, inexpensive shows, and easier parking than DC. I live an hour from both cities. If GVF takes off as predicted, this tour might be last chance to see them in a small club.
Baltimore show in Oct. is sold out!
Warrogue1 Crap. Won't be making that show, I guess.
Better hit the books boys. Sounds great! The crowd wants more!!
They sound great live! Is Robert Plant missing a kid somewhere? WOW!!!
A modern day Zepplin.
Randomly come across this Band, need to come to Europe and Ireland! Sound Great live
I think they got invited to Sweden or something after opening for Bob Seger a week or so ago. One of the kids was supposed to be in some golf tournament or something and had to cancel it. Must have been the easiest phone call that kid had to make.
Make sure to listen to some interviews with the as well... they're the genuine article... no bullShi*t
Gigiddy!
You're so luck to have seen them live.
Daniel Gutierrez Saw them again a few weeks ago. I need to get around to uploading some of those vids.
Can you provide a set list please?
defnick1 If memory serves, I think they only played 5 songs. 1) Highway Tune. 2) Black Smoke Rising. 3) An unreleased song. 4) Flower Power. 5) Safari Song (closing number; I have a video of that too that I'll have to upload).
Thank you so much. Great band!
some roger daltrey move
Is that Robert Plant?!
the 2 dislikes are definetly on bad drugs
Michael Peace I like to think they're commenting on the video quality and not the music. I keep my phone low to (hopefully) not block anyone's view, and I watch the show over my phone (and just glance at the screen occasionally to make sure the camera is still pointed where it needs to be) since I'm more concerned with watching the show than getting the video.
omfg this is led Zeppelin since i heard first time
If Geddy Lee had a plant..
Did these guys open for the Struts at the time?
Yep. They were opening for The Struts at this show. Great night of music!
@@seanboyer6743 Awesome and they are probably much bigger than the Struts now! Crazy!
@@Mulerider4Life Yeah. We saw GVF again 3 or 4 months later, and they were then the headlining band (Goodbye June opened for them).
Start listening at 2:00. There is a chick in the audience who screams right ON KEY.
Luke Spiller is pissed.
So good and talented ! These guys have never acknowledged or respected the influence of led zep. How can they deny this so apparent a fact. Wonder why they don't want to admit. Each song's DNA is Zeppelin not to mention the vocalists imitation and manners
almost 50 years since zeppelin formed...coincidence? ;)
Gee , another L.Zep imitator . Can the real Led Zep please stand up . So tired of the same old sound in ROCk ! Been Done Folks !
Another gimmick band , flash in the pan . Good band - playing a rip off style of a rip off band of the 70's . MUSIC IS DEAD !
Ha ha
Stop tying to act like Mr.Plant drives me nuts!!!!!!! Comes off cheezy .........Great band though.
who said the tunes are bad ? ......... the finger twirling and stance comes off cheezy
Willy Mac you never said the tunes were bad. I said get out, write some tunes, perform live and I guaranfuckingtee your ass would come off cheesier than most. Until then, sit-the-eff-down-&-shut-the-eff-up cheeseball...
ah nope hahaha cheeeeez
like really bud the drums are the same set up as bonham except they dont have the balls to play em as good checkout a band called earthless then you can shut your mouth fanboy ahahahahaha
and oh wait i learned the song in five min ahahahaha
