Royal Navy 4.724" MkVIII Gun Animation

- After many months of communication with archives, modeling, rigging, animating, rendering, and some editing, this thing is finally done.
This is my best attempt at modelling the 4.724" mkVIII naval gun fitted to the Royal Navy's Nelson-Class Battleships. It is based on the original Vickers drawings and a few photos, with a bit of educated guesswork where neither drawings nor photos were sufficient. I couldn't find a handbook for this specific mount so I'm still not entirely sure how all of it still works, particularly any of the dials and instruments. I think I've got a basic understanding of all of the larger mechanical functions though.
Now to put 4 of them on the hybrid carrier.

LOL the lego building finish noise
108 likes and no comment? fixed
Modern gun for the 1920s as conceived. Using a powered rammer was seen as novel when it was designed but turned out to be absolutely critical for naval AAA guns during the war.
This video is incredible. I'm sharing it with everybody, even shown to my dad.
That's awesome, glad you enjoyed!
british 120mm is very very nice. Thanks for the upload. Whenever i see a new video from you, i smile like an idiot because i know it will be cool
Thanks! Wish I could post more often but my 3D work progresses at a snails pace
@@seanhughes6536Quality is always superior to quantity.
respect for moddeling all that i know that tool a hell of a long time to model and research
That is a brilliant piece of work, and your attention to detail is remarkable. I love it. Rob
Beautiful detailed animation work. I’m glad I found this channel. Keep it up!
Very impressive. This is solid work!
Thank you for this work! Impressive!
This is just gorgeous and very inspirational
Безумная работа показать каждую деталь и собрать его как лего невероятно
This is great. A huge amount of work !
The lego noise tops it
very nice it go BOOM!
To think this was almost the British the universal Dual Purpose gun for British ship of the Interwar and ww2
finally the original clip
Man when they said this gun was complicated they weren’t kidding holy
That is insanely amazing can you do more of these??
Thanks, and probably. They take a very long time and are expensive to do though so I wouldn't expect them often at all (this took 6 months or so including initial research, searching for and ordering manufacturer drawings, modeling, and rendering). This gun is a part of a larger full-ship project so finishing that is the top priority whenever I'm not burned out from 3D work. I will probably do quick showcases of the other guns and rangefinders on the ship in another video, but those will be short clips just showing the model details, not a full standalone animation. I do however want to make a Pom-Pom mount unrelated to this project at some point; those have enough mechanical detail to be an interesting animation
My man we would have been happy with just the gun firing. You didn't have to assemble it like ikea furniture. Appriciate the effort though
I was originally going to do alot more and actually go through explaining how everything worked, but my computer is not useable while rendering and I had things to do :)
Always like the assembly animations found in some lego and world of warships-related stuff
Bruh IKEA gun
Lego-like assembly is the finest part for me here.
Bro the Lego bulding sound effect😂😂
i would like to see the German Flak 8,8cm (acht acht) AT-AA gun
Does the gun rammer use a telescopic shaft for transferring the rotation to the rammer mechanism?
Yes, there is a telescopic shaft connected to the hydraulic motor and the rammer mechanism with two universal joints. This allows the rammer tray to be swiveled out of the path of the gun recoil
Where did you get the drawings? I didn't even know this material was still maintained.
Barrow Archives. I didn't know they still existed either until I saw the archives referenced on John Lamberts reproductions
Was that the lego noise
Kinda clever loading mechanism
made things easier for sure. There's actually a ripcord/pulley on the loading tray to push the shell into the breech without hydraulic power as well
@@seanhughes6536 Would have been interesting to see the fuze setting device in action.
Was considering it, and the model and animation rig has that functionality. Just figured it wasn't all that important to show since it is just a twisting action at the tip of the shell@@WgCdrLuddite
@@seanhughes6536 It's important because without it this is not an AA gun.
Where can I learn to make animations like this?
UA-cam mostly. Everything I know about rendering and animation comes from a variety of UA-cam tutorials, mostly in blender. As for the actual mechanics of the gun, I was able to get my hands on the manufacturer drawings for it. An engineering background helps to figure out what you're looking at, but isn't strictly necessary.
@@seanhughes6536 is there UA-camr you can refer me to? I have only really found people who want to make donuts and cups and stuff that isn't very useful to me.
Bro is Lego cannon finished build noise
Is this a dual purpose gun?
Yes it is. Part of what makes the sight system so complex is separate elevating gear and targeting mechanisms for AA and surface fire
I love dual purpose guns and heavy Anti airs
@@yee-os7ix same, they always make for the most interesting models because of how complex they are
@seanhughes6536 can you make a vid about 3/50 caliber AA guns?
@@yee-os7ix Might get more into these more complex mounts, similar to what John Lambert did for Royal navy drawings, but My current priority is getting the rest of the Nelson armament done, in anticipation of doing a model of the Nelson itself eventually
Может быть это прозвучить очень амбициозно но я проедлогаю пушку от ямато либо от проекта а-150
Are you Vietnamese?
