The blood-curdling scream Nimona let’s out as she’s about to run the statue’s sword through her heart shakes me to the core every time. There’s so much pain and sadness behind it

It also helps that part of her powers is she's immortal like can regenerate from a puddle of blood type of immortal so her suicide wouldn't even have really worked all that well
Fun Fact: The credits for the film has an entire section dedicated to everyone that has worked at Blue Sky, complete with Nimona shapeshifting into a squirrel. (Like their mascot, Scrat.) A bittersweet, but great note for the studio to go out on. I'm glad they got the last laugh against Disney.

@@MatthewLopez-v1y There was a movie being planned by Disney about a newt needing to be paired with a female, as they were both the last of their kind. "Rio"had pretty much the same plot, but with parrots, so Disney ended up dropping out of the argument or lost the case, I think(too lazy to look it up fully).

This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I'm so glad Annapurna saved it and gave what was going to be Blue Sky's magnum opus a second chance. Another victory for the And a perfect way to end Pride Month.

Disney needs to pay, not just for trying to cancel this film, but for shortening the owl house, for censoring gravity falls and amphibia among others. The fact they try to pass themselves off as progressive is their most laughable joke in the past decade.

fun fact this movie actually got Cancelled & banned for the 2 guys being Gay. & a few other parts of this movie like Disney didn't approve of them putting 12 distinct flags for the LGBT+ pride flags & trans flag where Nimona explains what its like to be a shapeshifter

@@MasterBuilderDragon the owl house also got cancelled though, and the established relationship didn't happen till mid-season. But also women leads tend to get more slack than male leads because people think queer love is kink, and being gay is a lot more brutally hated than being a lesbian in society.
Disney randomly decided at some point that representation is what is killing their wallets and not the shifting media platforms, tired formula, audience getting older, covid, and the fact most people are sick of live action remakes. They want their projects to be palatable to the majority and have been gutting personal projects left and right.
So yeah they gutted Nimona and then a different company picked it up and it won awards over Disney films lol.

Wow I didn't expect to see you watching Nimona, I also bawled my eyes out. The movie is very emotional.
This was kinda like a little personal story of the creator who was going thru a crisis and struggle about finding themselves when transitioning into a transman. As I said in the stream Nimona is not a she or a he, she is JUST Nimona, the many times he kept asking NImona to be just a GIRL Nimona clearly explains that they are simply Nimona. Of course they kept her a female to make it easy for some of us. But if you listen she is clearly talking about being non binary as the creator makes themselves. This movie had different allegories to many people. People are just close minded and dont seem to understand there are different things out there, but its easy to hate something you dont understand.
I love the "and now you're a boy-I am today" bit, it really speaks to me and my friend who's genderfluid😅
Small correction, ND is transmasc not a trans man, he’s still married to Molly, because he’s non-binary and not a man.
Never clicked on a video faster. I was not AT ALL expecting this reaction, but I support it all the way. I've seen more reactions for Nimona than any other movie or show, and that will never cease to be the case.
Small detail that you only notice on a second viewing
When Ballister first picks up his weapon in the opening he has a moment of something feels off
With the tech inside it the balance of the weapon would be off and he noticed that

This movie was such a pleasant suprise. All due credit to the people who finished Blue Sky's work and made sure this movie saw the light of day.
Its a fitting sendoff for the studio
Fun fact:
This movie is based on a webcomic/graphic novel of the same name. They changed quite a lot to fit it into a movie, so a few things don't jell together as well as they should like how the 2nd act lowpoint was a touch forced the way they did it, but generally its just as good if not even an improvement over the original and a great movie all on its own.
The only time Nimona actually does something to cause destruction is after someone is talking about killing a monster like the kid on the monster killing game or the cereal commercial, other than that she’s just an inconvenience lol

Its cool to see how different people take different looks into why nimona is a monsters. In this case Mell probably have more experience with racism thats why he got to that side.
Most LGBT+ people would go towards the trans/non binary side or at least close to it.
Hearing the line "she doesnt love herself" from mell made me say, its not true at all, its actually the oposite. From an outside perspective from it may seem this way, as for you, you are who you are and been born as, for them its the opposite. She is A SHAPESHIFTER, she is not a girl, nor a boy or anything else, she is all of that and shifting is accepting what she is... Therefore loving herself. ❤

It's just about a literal monster with the shapeshifting ability not being accepted which makes sense. I did like that they found out she was made out to be a villian and just changed that narritive (but not as deep as people, like Elements and Zootopia is about animals and elements not mixing, makes sense).
I think this is one of the things I love most about this movie. It is literally for everyone who feels this way or sees something of themselves in Nimona.
She. She is a shapeshifter. Nimona always has used she/her pronouns in every iteration and ND Stephenson had exclusively used she/her pronouns to discuss her. Please don't misgender her. Not every nonbinary person uses they/them pronouns.

I love the detail when Nimona sacrificed themselves, that they became a Phoenix, and how that works is when a Phoenix dies and turns to ashes, they come back again as their new self.
It's a great added detail which makes me love the film more.

I am so glad you reacted to this movie as I would never have known about it. It is such a shame this movie never seemed to get the recognition it deserves. It should have been released in the Cinema. While some people will mention the controversy of the LGBT Themes, it is a very well written and solid movie. Cannot believe I nearly did not see this. Cetainly one of my top animations, and will rewatch....the only shame is there wont be a sequel any time soom. (if at all).
The movie is based on a comic, also called Nimona, if you're interested in seeing more of this world and its characters! I love this movie too, it's quite something to think it could have been released by Disney but they threw it out and it was ultimately saved by Netflix and the very dedicated staff.
I can't get through this movie without tearing up at least once, glad to see Mello checking it out, this movie deserves to get more attention

In case it isn't obvious, this movie is one big metaphor for being trans.
The writer of the comic book, and producer of the movie was also the main creative force behind the She-Ra reboot (which you should definitely check out). On She-Ra, he was credited as "Noelle Stevenson." In this movie, he was credited as "ND Stevenson" and now presents as a man, so he discovered his trans status fairly late in life from the looks of things.
The squire tried to tell Ballister but the director walked in at the same time so he ran away. Even Ballister noticed that his sword felt weird.
I first teared up when Gloreth picked the wooden sword and said "Go back to the shadows from whence you came"

I really like both the version of "go back to the shadows from whence you came" from Gloreth and the director, you can really see how a comment coming from fear (and I'd even say concern for Nimona from Gloreth) became pure hatred by the time of the director after years of fear mongering and intolerance, it's really well put
I love that this movie started as a cute couple of comics on Tumblr that did pretty good numbers and got turned into a queer classic. This movie slaps hard and I’m so happy it got made.
This movie is actually based on a science fantasy graphical novel of the same name created by an American cartoonist ND Stevenson, who's non-binary and has adhd. Creating this story and Nimona's character helped ND to come to terms with his own struggles.
I love how many interpretations people have with Nimona and the message of this film, it just shows we all struggle with our own stuff and seeing things like this can help bringing them to light. You might get a feeling of "Oh, THIS is how it feels" after seeing a character go through something or if you relate to it you can get the "yeah, been there done that" kinda feeling.

This movie went so deep and had me crying more than I thought I would. The music is so good, the animation is very unique but I love it, oh and this is apparently based off a book-i think manga but might be comic book instead.

Riz Ahmed (Ballisters actor) was also in a movie called The Sound of Metal, I highly recommend
So this film is based off a really great graphic novel by the same name, I highly recommend it.
I do absolutely love the medieval-cyber aesthetic of this movie. I also love how the animation in general looks. It's the result of blue sky getting bought out by Disney before they could finish the movie and another studio coming in and adapting it to work with their animation software. Just gives everything a clean feeling. I think its the fact that it's so similar to lineless art style with a lot of hard shading

they need to make a game about Nimona, the whole movie, how is this a game where you can play through the story with each character and follow his past, and with Nimona you can have quests and other things in the game, arrange the story to have a good ending or a bad one, that should be done IT WOULD BE FUN TO PLAY
It was only after I saw this movie that I looked to see where I knew the voice is from. Eugene from the Try Guys plays Ambrosius Goldenloin, which makes it so much more cooler.

In this movie though, the hatred they captured on the directors face and voice when she says "go back to the shadows from wence you came" the tone of that hatred perfectly encapsulates how too many people see people in the lgbtqi+ community, idk why out of all of the movie that has way better moments, that just particularly stuck with me.
I love this movie for its humor and how it perfectly captures most things.
“How did this whole thing get created?”
Someone on Tumblr was drawing art of an OC and at the time this person wasn’t yet aware of the fact that they were transgender, although those influences are very obvious. That’s why Nimona is constantly being told “why can’t you just be a girl?” “It might be easier for you if you just pretended to be normal” and other similar things. It was a comic series before it was a movie. And I don’t know too much else about the backstory behind it’s creation, but I know it really hit home for me as a trans person and I was positively sobbing my first watch through.

That movie is based on a graphic novel by ND Stevenson and ND Stevenson identifies Transmasculine and Non Binary So Nimona's Shape Shifting ability Functions as an allegory for gender fluidity there are some other themes in the film it represents anyone who has felt discriminated against whether because of their race, economic status lifestyle those who are judged only by what they see on the surface and not by who they really are I enjoy Chloe Grace Moretz acting voice in this movie Also Nimona at the ending a bird Fenix so gorgeous and amazing the kiss scene it was beautiful I cry a lot it's so amazing film

Edited to add that Ballister’s story is more one of classism.
That and the creator is basically relating the story to his experience of transitioning (pretty sure he transitioned while writing the story or at least shortly after)
