Hans Zimmer Wins Best Original Score for 'Dune' | 94th Oscars

I wasn’t alive when Hans Zimmer won the first time for the Lion King, and I have been waiting years and years for him to win again, and when Dune was his year, my disappointment when he wasn’t in the ceremony. Proud of you legend.
I was alive, but I was five.
Me too bro. But I've been on that train for most of my life for Hans to have another one and thank God the wait is over, even when it was hard from years before
Hans Zimmer is a best composer in the world.
@@TheProtagonist2020 *Thomas Newman
God on you.
The most obvious win of the last 10 years, probably. One of the greatest soundtracks of all time!
I agree, Dune was the best this time round by a thousand miles, there was no way he couldn't win.
yes yes yes
He will win again for Dune 2.
How the hell is this only his second Oscar? My God, the man should get it every other year. Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar, Inception... how come he didn't get an Oscar for all those films?
Have you heard the scores that won instead?
@@MundoJuanci Yea, and none of them no one even cares about.
Robbed is why.
@@MundoJuanci Interstellar vs Grand Budapest hotel ... now I'm not saying the grand budapest hotel soundtrack wasn't worthy, but on Spotify the Interstellar soundtrack has literally 100x more plays. It's clearly far and away more popular, had a much bigger cultural impact and a lasting legacy.
The Last Samurai is also top class!
Hans was in Amsterdam getting ready for a concert I believe and pretty much said during that concert he’d rather be here than at that shit show where people slap each other lmao he’s a legend.
they finally did justice to the amazing work of Hans Zimmer, one of the most deserved awards of the night.
Hans Zimmer is truly a legend! He has been nominated for the Oscars 12 times and has won only 2 Oscars. He was in Amsterdam and was woken up by his daughter when he won his second Oscar.
Why was he not invited?
@@preetham973 He was invited but he chose to not to go since he had a concert the next day and prefered to be with his fans rather than being at and I quote "that really fucking shitty show"
@@javiercarrillo2640 who care about oscar? It's ridiculous award
He will win again for Dune 2.
@@hoangphan5224 Different values
Got snubbed for The Last Samurai, Gladiator, The Vinci Code, Inception, The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Interstellar, Batman Vs Superman.

Someone's a fan
Damn so true
and The Prince of Egypt. Still one of his greatest work of film orchestral history
I'm happy he finally won his second Oscar for dune
Now, I can be able to imagine the sunrise scene from the The Lion King (1994) with that scream from the score of Dune (2021) being added 😁
Omg the epicness.....AAAAAAAAH SEBANYAAAAAAAAAAAAHH
"HAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHH NO ERAAAAAAAAH"
sorry tried to replicate that dune scream ost.
Although the disrespectful rush with they presented this category, I'm so happy for his win and seeing Jason receiving the award on his behalf.
Agreed
For those wondering why Hans Zimmer isn't here to collect his award, it's because he's currently on a world tour. And he was not there for most of the other ceremonies where he also won this prize (ex: when he found out about his prize at the baftas, he was currently playing and he interrupted everything to replay Paul's Dream). However, he knew his prize thanks to his two daughters in Amsterdam and he celebrated this prize at the bar (Best Celebration Idea 😂).
And yes, he did have a speech when he found out.
Deserved it for Interstellar. Still don't know how Grand Budapest won
Academy dont like him and loves Desplat on the other hand, so there is your answer :D
@@kubyasek1406 You aren't the only one. Interstellar and The Dark Knight. Hollywood is pathetic, and I think out of shame they gave Hans his second award.
Fun fact:
Zimmer turned down scoring frequent collaborator Christopher Nolan’s TENET in favor of scoring DUNE
And we still got an awesome soundtrack for tenet, win win
Fun fact Hans himself has denounced this. He didn't turn anything down because he was already on Dune. His intention with that was to clarify he never told Nolan no because when Nolan was looking for someone he already knew Hans was busy
@@MM-hi Exactly. The way it turned out blew my mind. Tenet soundtrack is one of the best of all time for me.
@@adambenk0Tenent the movie was a sh. It show! The score was forgettable because the film sucked.
@@rickdeckardbladerunner2049 The score lives on like it or not.
Till date Interstellar has the best Background Score of all time.
Agreed to that
Shortest Oscar video ever
You haven’t seen Joe Pesci’s speech
His first win in over 25 years and couldnt accept in person because y'all chose to not have this award live.😶😖🙃
I think the real issue was that it conflicted with the schedule of his tour. But still, I don’t want to see the Academy pulling this shit again. -_-
He was able to give a speech at one of his concerts.
He was touring during this time. Why would you just make up a lie?
How the hell is this only his second Oscar? My God, the man should get it every other year. Gladiator, The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Interstellar, Inception... how come he didn't get an Oscar for all those films?
From the moment I saw Dune and heard the score, I knew it deserved to win this category
He will win again for Dune 2.
Meh, it was just ok. He has so many other great scores that all deserved to win and were better but did not.
He should have won for Interstellar, the Dark Knight, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
He will win again for Dune 2.
Dune has great music score. Hans Zimmer
became the third composer to win music score Oscars for a Live Action film and a Animated film since Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
Hans Zimmer got no time for Oscar he's busy making classics
Hans zimmer won an oscar for two films which involve a son losing his father, and finding themselves in a somewhat exile after being announced dead.
Too short
Congratulations, he’s one of my favorites, and he has a diverse range of styles as well. A true Icon plus he also was in the Buggles, Video Killed The Radio Star😍
Hans Zimmer scored on Pixar Animation Studio.
Great!
Hans Zimmer and John Williams are the two best composers in the history of the movie industry
The Score is very well deserved
Congrats Hans Zimmer. 👍
@@dariussalepetru6770 how did he didn't won the oscar for interstellar
Hans Zimmer has Done great music
❤️❤️❤️
Mr.Zimmer you are amazing👍
Also Their a UA-cam clip of Hans Zimmer
Celebrate his victory
Hans Zimmer’s only formal music training was two weeks of piano lessons. He was thrown out of eight schools. His is entirely self-taught.
That should tell you how talented he is.
Why did you cut off the category. Present all 23 from next year.
Still prefer The Lion King, but it’s thrilling that Zimmer finally has more than 1 Oscar
It'd be very upsetting if anybody says that Dune is better than The Lion King.
@@turinturambar501 Lion King is Hans' magnum opus. As great as Dune and all the other scores Hans has composed are, Lion King is and will forever remain the best score of his career.
I like Hans Zimmer but the score was unrecognizable in the lion King similar to how I felt about Germaine Franco being nominated for original score. Say what you will but I know the music but I can’t find the score in those films
He will win again for Dune 2.
Dune..... ❤❤❤
It was a shame. The award was give before the ceremony and the videos were very short, so you could hear more music during the videos for visual effects than during the videos for best score. A shame.
How much blood sweat and tears do you silly Oscars need him to do to win. It's about time, but god damn. He got robbed for The Dark Knight, Inception, Interstellar and Dunkirk
Missing 3 oscars for this amazing artist: The Gladiator, Inception and Interstellar !!!
Pongo ese soundtrack para trabajar por las noches , y una vez decidí verlo levantar el oscar y no está el muy pendej0. que lastima, pero que grande que es.
Ive been waiting for years to see Hans win an Oscar again and it goes by off screen?????
This man should have an Oscar every year
Somehow I expected that if Hans Zimmer wins an Oscar in modern times again, there would be a standing ovation for some minutes.
He will win again for Dune 2.
This and Best Visual Effects were the two awards Dune deserved to win most
I think we can all agree that Hans Zimmer deserved to win
In the description, it's telled that Jason Momoa presents the Oscar to Hans Zimmer, but there's a woman doing this instead. He just accepts it on his behalf.
He should’ve won so many other times..
He will win again for Dune 2.
Alexandre Desplat should have been nominated for The French Dispatch. And Greenwood for Spencer
Thnq my godfather for giving us the most emotional music of all time - Interstellar
The Thin Red Line has one of the greatest scores of all time. Too bad he did not win for it but I am glad he finally won his second Oscar.
Should have won at least a dozen
He will win again for Dune 2.
Aah Jonny, your time will come.
i was looking forward for jonny to win :(
Hans Zimmer doesn't care... he is already the God Emperror of Soundtracks for movies !
I’ve been waiting to finally see Hans back on that stage after his only win 28 years ago. And then he didn’t attend. Plus they pre-taped it cuz the Academy is full of shit. WOW.
Reminder that the disrespectful academy didn't include this category in the main show because composers aren't "popular" enough
jonny ;(
This should have been his fourth Oscar. He should have won for Interstellar and Inception.
Even a fifth one for Gladiator.
He will win again for Dune 2.
W
Sehr gut👏 Hans Zimmer ist wunderbar!
Pity he finally wins a LONG OVERDUE second Oscar and he’s not even there to accept it. Even Billie Eilish wished he could have been there to celebrate her win for No Time to Die which he also did the score for
Imagine deeming an award thats either bought or judged by people who have less knowledge/experience than you more important than your craft itself. If you dont need the publicity you dont care about an oscar.
The audacity to nominate don't look up alongside DUNE
Don't judge the soundtrack for the movie. DLU is not very good, but its soundtrack is. Dune is not that good, though, for me.
He deserved to be nominated for DARK PHOENIX
You mean x men dark pheonix then hell no
Nah
This should’ve been on TV and Zimmer should’ve been there to accept it.
It was on TV (edited in) and Zimmer wasn’t there because he was touring Europe. His tour dates had been setup long before the Oscars timetable.
@@JohnnyBoy-jx3kb he don't need oscars. Oscars are for non-talented discriminated lgbtq people.
Hans talent is beyond anyone sitting there. Also he is rich as f. Nobody is gonna recognise Hans has two time oscar winner. This f*cking Hans Zimmer
@@madworker1927 If Oscars are for “non-talented discriminated lgbt people” and Hans Zimmer has two Oscar then that makes him a “non-talented discriminated lgbt” person as well. That’s what your logic suggests. Also, I never implied he needs Oscars. I said his tour dates were set up long before the Oscar nominations and dates were known. That’s why he didn’t go. He’s been to every other ceremony where he was nominated so he obvious values Oscars he wouldn’t attend all the other ceremonies.
@@JohnnyBoy-jx3kb sorry I was replying to the original comment. Anyways I'm talking about the current oscars.
They used to give awards to talented people but now it is bull💩 propaganda.
@@JohnnyBoy-jx3kb nope he don't he said f*ck the oscars during his tour
The score for Spencer was snubbed.
This was a weak category this year.
Don’t Look Up? I couldn’t tell you what the music sounded like in that film for a million dollars.
Kind of humiliating on the part of the oscars to finally give another award to one of the best film composers in the industry and to do it like this. Yes, he was right not to attend. And he's a legend and he deserves a third and fourth and fifth one.
“He was right not to attend”? What are you talking about? He was touring Europe during this time and his tour dates had been established long before the Oscars had set their timetable. If you don’t know why he wasn’t there, don’t make things up.
Hans Zimer should've won when played on Interstellar :((
Germaine Franco made history as the first ever Latino Woman to be nominated for an Oscar.
😂
I doubted his decision of turning down Tenet for Dune first, but that maybe the best decision of his career.
Not even shown on TV....
The Hand Of God deserved a nomination
Seriously why did we cut the full length of these awards from the main ceremony?
To save time for another boring Bond montage that we saw five years ago?
And the even more ridiculous thing is they STILL went 40 minutes over schedule. One of the worst ceremonies in Oscar history.
Dune was the only winner but power of dog was close
Zimmer should have won for Interstellar as well, and I dont want to hear otherwise, that score was clearly robbed
Man, a moment that should have been a celebration felt so worthless.
I seriously think if hanns zimmerman, dies they could mus when did speilberg do if last movie 98? never get something & america, it at east in noland & other great composers.
Criminal only 2 oscars
He should got 4
@@dariussalepetru6770 majority agrees probably 8
what ?
Happy for the man. I generally love his work. And sad he wasn't able to be there.
That said, we all know he only won the Oscar because he's called Hans Zimmer, the movie is called Dune and the director is called Denis Villeneuve. And there was almost no competition this year.
I generally love his work, but this is far from Oscar worthy in my opinion. Any other year (except last one too) it wouldn't even be considered for nomination. The fact that he probably deserved it for Interstellar (although TGBH had fantastic soundtrack too) doesn't mean he deserves it for any other. If you ask me, only for The Lion King and Gladiator.
Popularity beating quality again... As usual recently.
Hey, nothing against you, but I have the need to share my view as well here. I personally absolutely loved the soundtrack and think it made the personality of the movie. Hans Zimmer isnt loved in the academy that much (in my opinion he has been robbed more than once). And I believe I wasnt the only one who absolutely loved this score. I am sorry you dont see it the same way, but dont claim he only won because of his name because that just isnt true. This soundrack is unique, he even invented new instruments just for this movie. This was clear oscar as it was for me the only oscar worthy score this year. But hey, I respect your opinion and you have every right to dislike the score, just dont claim its undeserved win.
What do you think should have won instead. What was your favourite?
Popularity you say? He has composed some of the greatest soundtracks in the recent decades, some of the most influential music sensestions of the modern cinema industry..... How would you respond to that, your claims are invalid. For all listeners these musical masterpieces can blow your mind away without watching to the movie just by listening so your point makes no sense, sorry. Btw Oscars nowadays are bs, we all know that. 😊
Hans is okay, but he's not on the Mount Rushmore of Miklós Rózsa, Jerry Goldsmith, Takanori Arisawa and especially the G.O.A.T.: John Williams. With Yuki Kajiura, James Horner and Elliot Goldenthal being honorable mentions. Hans is nowhere near their level due to him recycling, and being repetitive as hell.
I think that Howard Shore's work for TLOTR is not even matched by Williams himself.
JONNY GREENWOOD SHOULD'VE WON
😅
I would have preferred A Thousand Times that Encanto had won, after all the Music and the Soundtrack are the high point of the film, and although Hans Zimmer is one of the Best Composers in the History of Cinema I believe that Disney's 60 Animation is still present in the public's memory for a long generations, while Duna is a film that just came and went. 🏆🎼🎼🎼
Germaine Franco's score was nominated for this Oscar, not the songs composed by Lin Manuel Miranda. Only the music composed by Franco should be considered for the award.
@@ems4433 But I think that voters usually take into account the songs too, despite only giving credit to the score composer. Just for instance, Frozen II was into the shortlist I'm 2019. It has great score but I doubt it would be there wasn't it for the fantastic songs.
What I mean is that I guess people vote for the music overall.
Just my thoughts though.
@@turinturambar501 in that case the song composers also should be nominated as it happened in the late 90's with Prince of Egipt of Mulan. Otherwise if you five the award to Franco for the songs by Lin Manuel Miranda is very just for Miranda and for the real winner, Zimmer (who probably won his first oscar for the songs composed by elton john and tim rice and not for his own score).
@@ems4433 Well, yes, that's what I mean. That people usually think about the score as all the music overall, not just the melodic parts, despite what The Academy plans.
That said, The Lion King and many other musicals have astonishing melodic music aside from the songs.
Disney shill
terrible apresentation
I disagree. I m sorry
WHY DIDN'T THEY GIVE AN OSCAR AWARD TO MY FAVORITE COMPOSERS THOMAS NEWMAN AND JAMES NEWTON HOWARD? THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEIR MUSIC! 😡
It’s mostly mediocre, not really outstanding and memorable like Zimmer’s music. J.N.Howard should have been nominated for A hidden life, tho.
@@visions_of_noah Lol? 😂
Well, it's all about opinions, but most people will tell you that half of Zimmer's music sound "Zimmerly" generic.
And that Thomas Newman's music and Howard's are a lot but mediocre.
Of course they're fantastic composers. JNH is one of my favorites, but it's hard for me to think of a year they should have won. I would have said JNH this year for Raya or perhaps in 2018 for FB2 despite First Man supremacy. Not even in 2005 for King Kong.
It's like Hans Zimmer, who always makes very good soundtracks, but I wouldn't have given him any Oscars except for The Lion King and Gladiator. He's usually like the 8/10 guy but every year there's at least a 9/10 or 10/10 soundtrack.
@@turinturambar501 which Howard soundtrack should have won in your opinion?
@@visions_of_noah I actually say in the other comment that despite being one of my favorite composer by far I don't think he should have won any year.
Meh soundtrack, even from Zimmer.
Literally such an overrated and obnoxious score. The Power of the Dog or Parallel Mothers should've won. And Spencer and C'mon C'mon were snubbed.
