Crispy Spring roll & Grilled Pork on Rice Noodles for lunch~Delicious

- I got my mom to try some Vietnamese food today at HI Pho in Hawaii Kai (next to the old "the shack"). We took out some Pho and crispy spring roll and grilled pork on vermicelli. Lets see if she likes it.

I love what your mom had... Very refreshing especially with lots of herbs (mint, cilantro and basil) and onion.
She said "Now" she likes Vietnamese food... so funny (she likes ONE dish)

So true... They worry about us when we were young. Now that I'm in my 40s, I get worry about them when they don't answer my phone calls or messages. And especially when they travel. I always tell them to message me to make sure they are OK. But, of course, they will forget, and makes me worry even more. Can you imagine if I have kids... Oh my! 😂😂😂
I so enjoy your videos. Your mom reminds me of my mom. She was tiny (95 lbs) she wore glasses, and wore long sleeve blouses to ward away the sun. Too many similarities. Unfortunately I lost her several years ago. You two have an amazing relationship! And you take such good care of her! Happy Thanksgiving!

The dish your mom had is one of my faves. When you eat in, it comes in one big bowl with the sauce on the side. I like to pour all the sauce into my bowl and mix it up.
Hawaii and Japan 7-11s are way better than those on mainland US.
You and your okaasama are so adorable! I just can’t imagine finding namasu at our local 7-Eleven! The prepared food seemed a bit pricey, but it’s nice too have all those options. So heartwarming to see how much your okaasama enjoyed her lunch; my mother's a recent convert to Vietnamese cuisine as well. She loves all the fresh herbs. I live Vietnamese food! Vermacelli pork, egg rolls salad & Pho! You Okasama liked the salad. The pork usually has a nice flavor! Another dish you can get for your mom. 👍💜

I have never eaten Vietnamese food before and after the war I did not have an urge to try any either. I am getting my food ready for Thanksgiving Day right now and I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving Day as well.
Good to see you and your Mom enjoying a nice lunch! Have you thought of screening in your patio/lanai? I love the choice of Asian foods in the 7-11's in Hawaii. Wish they would have decent food in their mainland stores. I think 7-11 would be surprised how many people in the lower 48 would buy good Asian food if they sold it. The cashier at 7 eleven told me that the stores in Hawaii are owned by a Japanese company. The managers decide what to have in their stores. She told me that if we go to 7eleven on the West side of Oahu. They have more Filipino food... WOW.

Pizza hut closed, no. The convenience store had so much Japanese food. Vietnamese food is nice, I like fresh rice paper rolls dipped in fish sauce with crushed peanuts in the sauce. My grandma only likes Asian food and dislikes European food so is a picky eater. Good video :) Holiday? Is it Thanksgiving? We don't celebrate that in NZ, but Christmas and new year holiday next month:)

I think I prefer your mom's dish. That meat ball in the pho looked kinda weird. The first pho I ever ate was in Toronto and I think it was beef tendon. OMG it was so oily but oh so delicious! Speaking of change...went to Ward Center tonight and in place of Big City Diner is a pop-up called The Christmas Bar. It will be there for six weeks and after that, who knows? What a shock! (The other BCDs are still operating).

Hi! I like Mom's dish better, minus the fish sauce. Wish I liked fish. But it all looked good. We have a little store/resturant near by but I'm still not sure what style food they serve. It may be Vietnamese. The food looks similar. I get a dish like Mom's but it is spicy. And another I get is a soup with the meatballs like yours. But they don't serve as many veggies. Wish they would.
I am having dinner with my kids and we will all cook. They want to make deep fried turkey this year. Last week my son tried it with Cornish hens. It was very good & juicy. We will make a traditional 🇺🇸 meal.

“Grouchy old person”..... Niki have you ever thought of having your Mom listen to old Japanese song. Sometimes letting her having a time to herself, try having her listen to good old 50-60’s songs. Download on “hawaiiannisei song and clubNisei Japanese song. In those years Japanese people only listen to radio and not tv...I bet while listening to these music her body will move to the rhythm.. so whenever her mood is not at ease try surprise her with a music. That’s what I use to do for my105 year old friend. . Good luck
What ? Pizza Hut gone??? all the pizza places in Hawaii Kai that used to be in Koko Marina or HI Kai Shopping Center that delivers have all gone away over the past 20 years !
yes, we are left with only Costco and Sophie's Gourmet Pizza ....
