  • LET'S WRITE A BOOK! -- EPISODE 2: PT. 2 - OUTLINING ♡
    I used to think that I had to pick the perfect outlining method to create my perfect outline, but instead, all you have to do is just outline... what a bummer. I wasted so much time studying the right way to outline, but it's not about what is right, it's about how you outline. In this video I break down how to outline using three separate methods: Save the Cat, Dan Harmon's Story Circle and the 7-Point Plot Structure to show that they are all the same.
    Here is the outline visual used in this video!: shorturl.at/tPY0N

    This was a great overview! Helped me put outlining into perspective - and props for the effort that must have gone into making those infographics!

    I've been watching endless videos on novel structure and came to the same conclusion!!
    Had me boggled no-one put 2 and 2 together before
    New sub for sure!!

      Yes! I think a lot of people may know this but for some reason I had to draw it out and overlap them for it to fully click for me haha

    Hi, thanks a lot for this overview! It really encouraged me to start plotting again. Thanks for emphazising that we don't have to follow these structures to a t, bc I always was caught in the middle and it felt not right with a method and then I just stopped it overall ^^

      I always feel so caught up by *choosing the right method* or *making sure it's perfect* so I totally understand - but we got this!! We just have to keep going

    I find it difficult to outline at the scene level. Mostly because it’s easy to see where I want to go (ex. I want my leads to fall in love. And at certain beats, there’s the big moments. The meet, the love reveal/first kiss, the break up). But then…I realize I have to build up to those moments and it’s difficult to think on a much smaller scale. I feel like I’m scrambling for effective ways to fill in that build up. The outline becomes very messy at that point

      I totally feel that! Scenes are hard!! I find it easier to outline and clean up scenes in the editing phase

      There is a live link to the template here: shorturl.at/tPY0N ! You should be able to print that page of the website in a PDF format. Let me know if that doesn't work and I can get a PDF for you 🤗

    At 10:32 what did you mean by “time clocks can occur”? (Sorry lol)

    • @mikwrites
      @mikwrites  Місяць тому +2

      No need to apologize! At the midpoint it’s common for a “time clock” to be set where the MC and crew now have to accomplish the main goal (or central conflict) of the story by a certain time - this is a way to add stakes by putting a ticking clock as pressure on your characters!
