I read the title and knew instantly it was Jerome Rogers. I rewatched Thrasher's King of the Road and seeing him there just having fun skating again with the Chocolate crew made me happy.
Was one of my favourite skaters when I first started skating back in the day. Although I was disappointed with him quitting as well as being disappointed that he tried to clown on the thing that literally got him to where he is, I never gave him hate for it. Instead I understood that he was following his passion, even tho I can’t stand his music or some of the things he’s done Also him sacking that rail in Yeah Right is still hilarious to this day
I know this gets brought up more in other sports but I wonder how much CTE/head trauma has to do with some skaters making these bad decisions (I mean the Nyjah beef, not his awful rap career). Especially since no one but Andy Anderson wears a helmet, I wonder how many older skaters have CTE?
Not sure that’s the issue with JR. I think he’s a product of his peers constantly picking on him and having a bad personality in general but I guarantee many pros do suffer from CTE. I’m no where close to a pro but I fear I have some permanent damage from 2 specific head injuries. My personality changed after the last one. Luckily I think it made me a better person but only time will tell what comes in the future.
Jeremy simply was forced to go with an impulsive bad decision when Plan B had an entire pro spotlight planned for him and he said "no, I dont want to do that right now because I wanma do some studio shit" and Colin McKay was like "wow, you have balls of steel" to refuse to just fulfill his obligations to pro skating and justify the tens of thousands he was making a month at the time with the energy drink sponsors and shit. He fucked himself
i actually met Jeremy Rogers at a night club here in nyc about 4 weeks ago. a place called little sister. he was in our section behind the DJ booth and i instantly knew it was him. looked at him and said "ayo, is your name Jeremy?" he looks at me and tells me yea and behind the back of some chick who was on him heavy basically telling me "shush" with his finger so that she wouldnt know his name. LOL. for the rest fo the night, he kept spitting these crazy ass freestyles in my ear and shit. being mad friendly with me like he knew me for ages. said he is living in Colombia now and was only in nyc for a couple days. he seemed mad drugged up. at the end of the evening, i see him at the door, i tell him good ight and best of luck with everything, he then got offended i wished him luck. LMAO. my boy was goneeeeeee.
A lot of successful people think that because they are very good at one thing they must be able to do whatever they want. Its delusional. Not saying there aren't people who are good at multiple things but Jerome had no self awareness. And of course bullying and actual hate is uncalled for but when you make music you're going to get opinions on it and if people don't like it that doesn't automatically make them a hater, they just don't like you music.

If he ever gets a regular job like working in retail or something, he's going to look back on the opportunities he wasted and be majorly bummed out.
