Excellent video. Kept it simple but made sure to cover the critical points. Great having this play in the background while mounting after watching it through once.
Bonus points for setting up with the same rings as me (Vortex Precision Matched Rings made by Seekins Precision).
Nice and thorough. Thanks for showing the small details to pay attention to
Great video only thing I would recommend for backcountry guns and magnums is to use devcon steel epoxy on the bases you use neutral shoe polish as a release agent on screws ect In fills any machinists differences and gives a rock solid mount we did this to all our military sniper rifles 👍🏻
Great advice!
Even if the manufacturer."talley" says don't lap.?
@@BIG_FETUS I said nothing about laping the rings . Only devcon bases

@@sheerwillsurvival2064 Wait i want to understand what you meant...so are you saying layer some epoxy on the lower half of the rings? is that to fill any voids instead of lapping? and if so ,you mean use said polish to clean it off if you remove the scope? is that accurate? Does that polish eat away at the epoxy or do i layer polish first then epoxy then mount scope? sorry just trying to understand what you meant..talk to me like im a 5 years old..lol..
I needed this!! Thanks for the education 👍
You betcha!
I used that scope level kit last year. I hated how I couldn’t tell if the bubble was truly in the center. If you can get your gun level in a quality vice it will save you a lot of headaches. My Tipton gun vice last year was awful.
I just leveled my scope on my kitchen bar stools, rather than spending a couple hundred on leveling tools - 10 minutes. It took 2 tries to get it right but it's good now. Torqued 30# to the base and just under 18# on the rings. I'm shooting deer hopefully inside of 100 yards.
You lost me at “whoops, don’t know where the bit for this went, I’ll just hand tighten” lol
When using a rail what size of scope rings do you normally use? I have a rifle that doesn’t have a raised cheek pad or anything so I didn’t know how high you want your glass.
What we've found with the browning rifles using rails is that .82 rings seem to work well.
What I do is lightly snug the scope in the rings, then tighten the bases. Right or wrong, it insures the rings and scope have total contact.
Everyone says mounting the scope is an integral part of the rifle what discovering manufacturers know that we don't what is that little polyester sticky for if you're going to lap the rings anyway
You never use level like that on top of scope.
Then where do you level it?
@@BIG_FETUS The real gunsmith by randy selby. Has a great vdo on mounting scope.
Shit, I just slap on sum supra glue and sticker on by golly😂🤣
First
Wrong. Ya don’t level from the turret. Very rarely are the turrets perfectly level with the reticle. Use a plum bob to level the reticle. To each his own tho.
Brady mentioned that in the video with a tool he uses to level from the bottom of the scope. Then he finishes things up with a tall target test. More on that in an article that showcases all the photos and extra tips.
