Though adored by the people, the Duchess of Devonshire (Keira Knightley) is not content to sit as a pretty figurehead. Determined to be a major player in affairs of state, she rises to the forefront of the Whig Party and helps usher in reform in late-1700s England. The one thing it seems she cannot do is win the heart of her husband (Ralph Fiennes).

I asked for two things
He says - loyalty
Subtitles - boiled tea
lmao
omg, ikr lmao
Well😂
😂
Hahahaha omg
Keira knightly is the cover of old fashioned romance movies! Am I right? Elizabeth Bennet, Anna Karenina, Georgiana Spencer...
She is the Queen
Yeah, she must be.
georgina spencer? in what movie is that?
@@khiaratt uh this one
@@madelynshinn9910 oh lol 😂 sorry I haven't watched this one yet

"the Duke of Devonshire; he's in love with me?"
"I've only met him twice!"
Yea, I see a few issues here.
I thought this film really showcased Keira's talent as an actress. The costumes and the setting were gorgeous! She was so good in this film, one of the most sad storylines I've ever seen in a film about a young Duchess, a very emotional performance and yet, the ending with her playing with her other children was so joyful and poignant! If you have a need for a cry with a tub of ice cream movie I highly recommend this!
Agreed. Keira Knightley should have won Best Actress for her performance.
It’s my go to sad amazing movie! I cry all the time time when she stands in that field. I can’t fathom all she went through!
you are so right
I was always surprised and shocked that that duchess of Devonshire is actually an ancestor of Lady Diana, and somehow, their two stories are so similar.
It's so strange, but history does seem to repeat itself -- especially with the aristocracy and the royals. (I have been reporting on the British royals for two decades.) The similarities of her story to Diana's are remarkable.
Same! When I saw Spencer, I don't know why I had a feeling that she might be related to princess Diana. I was shocked to see she actually was.
No no no, not at all similar. The Duchess wasn't a victim at all. It's just we like to view things through a modern lens.
@@EvidentlyFire how was she not???
@@KerijaBredlija well we view the story through our own modern prism. She wouldnt have had such sensitivities being of her time. Infact i think she would be highly offended to be thought of as a victim. Tell me how you think she was a victim.
This is one of Keira's best performances and yet film academies chose to overlook her because what? she's wearing a corset in another period film? hilarious. Her roles in Pride and Prejudice, Atonement, The Duchess, Anna Karenina, Never Let Me Go, Collette, Official Secrets and Misbehaviour are different characters and even with a mediocre film and a somewhat underwritten script, Keira still shines because of the amount of depth she brings to every character she plays. The film industry has been taking Keira's talents for granted so as Carey Mulligan, Imelda Staunton, Shailene Woodley, Ann Dowd, Kirsten Dunst and hell, even Kristen Stewart. I mean Clouds of Sils Maria, Seberg, Lizzie and Personal Shopper? Kristen Stewart is more than just that garbage of a film saga and Keira Knightley is more than just an actress in a corset in period films.
I just love this movie, one of her best acting roles, what a great sacrifice the true duchess made, to live in a loveless marriage all those years, I truly enjoyed this movie.
Oooh yes what an excellent selection you have listed! ♥
Male actors doing biopics get academy awards and lauded as great. Double standards.
I remember just watching this movie with no idea what I was getting into all because I was a fan of Keira Knightly from all her classical movies and it was so sad and just heart wrenching after I found out the true story and then who she was related too.
What was the story ?? Can u tell me ??
You can look it up she couldn’t have a son but fell in love with someone else
I assume Princess Diana since the family name is Spencer.
@@alishbanadeem2596 Georgiana was Diana Princess of Wales Great Great Great Great Aunt
Not surprising she was a direct ancestor of Princess Diana.
Really??
@@kriyaprashant4141 Yes. Both are Spencer Family.
Not quite. She is Princess Diana's great-great-great-great aunt. However, Winston Churchill and Princess Diana are both descended from Sarah Jennings (one of the people from The Favourite), who happened to be Georgiana's great-great-grandmother. It's all very complicated.
Yes, both loved by the people, and feared by the powerful.
She's also a direct descendent of Sarah Ferguson through the illegitimate daughter (Eliza Courtney) she had by Sir Charles Grey.
well i wouldnt marry voldemort either..
Lmfao 😂
😂😂
😂
This is such an underrated film and Keira Knightley's performance was phenomenal. This was such a challenging role but Knightley made it look easy. A lot of hype, in 2008, was over Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker but Knightley did a far superior job with a more difficult role (and I enjoyed Ledger's Joker but Knightley was simply better). Throughout her career, Knightley has always been a chameleon, always delivering tremendous performances. She is one of the greatest actors of this generation and deserves more attention from critics.
For everyone to dismiss this film and her performance really just comes down to double standards and misogyny
Way, way ahead of her time.
Absolutely
No she wasn't. She was entirely of her time. We are viewing her story through a modern lens and trying to compare her feelings as to how she would feel now. This woman was never a victim.
Wow. Just watched this. A must see! I loved this movie. The acting will not disappoint. Splendid. Absolutely a masterpiece!
I watched this the day after watching Anna Karenina. And I didn’t expect these stories to be so similar yet different. I definitely recommend watching both.
Literally the most sad, depressing movie I've watched. I was crying the last hour of the movie.
I remember watching and thinking it was going to be like Marie Antoinette..but this.. 🥲
Yes I was just hoping there would be a good ending. I didn’t realise it was a true story. How horrifying
Certainly a very sad story nevertheless, I did enjoy everything about this movie along with the performances of each of the main characters.
The same old story told beautifully as if it were new. Well done. Truly well done.
This is the movie i could watch over and over again
The ending 😭😭 I wish I could change it for her 😔
Me too... It broke my heart I don't even want to watch it again 😭💔 and the fact that it's a true story 💔💔
I can't get passed her poodle hairstyle lol
It's very attractive
Anna Karenina, pride and prejudice, the Duchess Keira Knightly surprises with so many beautiful characters
spencers have this in family.
Georgina
Diana ❤️
I'm so heartbroken with this story
Highly underrated film
This was such a *beautiful* film. I am in love with the English stately homes, costumes and makeup.
Rachel Portman’s music complements the action superbly- such passionate anguish.
I cried so much to this movie the end of it it was good but not what I expected. I guess movies don’t always have the endings you want.
That dude reminds of voldemort
The actor actually played Voldemort 😊
Ralph Fiennes right?
this film made me cry
I just finished watching this movie and honestly i loved it ❤️
This was a great movie, a definite much watch!!
Wow, what a brilliant film. She was Princess Diana’s great, great , great , great aunt.
Keira Knightly is herself a revolution
I don't know if I love her or the period piece roles she gets to play.
@@allegedlee6930I love her.
Saw this movie last night, it came on at 2am and I was about to go to sleep but I ended up watching the whole movie, it ended at 4:04am. Its a good movie.
Where to watch
Georginaaa!! Amazing scene
She has the same fate as Princess Diana
They are in the same family. The House of Spencer.
Actrice sublime et grande actrice
I believe goergina was the saddest woman in her time, such a sad story of the duchess
If you liked this movie you should absolutly check out "Anna karenina" with keira as the main actress it's a very similar story and it's directed by joe wright who directed pride prejudices as well as atonment.
Wait a minute, are you telling me that a daughter of the Earl Spencer married an older, rich, powerful man who never really loved her, put up with his mistress, was loved by the public and died at a tragically young age, is just a movie???
my fav movie forever
In whole film I knew that I had seen Duke in another movie but I couldn't remember till at end I found that he was no other but ralph fiennes who played voldemort 😂
Me: Ok let's see what this is about
*10 seconds in*
Oh it's Voldemort 🤭
This film is basically every women's nightmare
So Much Suffering!
Never knew voldemort was Duke.
i feel like once a year i have to watch this movie. keira is stunning in medieval movies. i mean shes stunning anyway but i have a weak spot for medieval films lol also the visuals are gorgeous
I completely agree with you! Keira is the queen of historical films 😁
Although (and this is not hate) this isn’t really a medieval film being that it’s set in 18th century and medieval ended in the 15th century
@@maddietenhouten2276Yes indeed, you are correct.
Amazing movie!
This movie should be titled:
Elizabeth Bennet having an affair with Willoughby
This movie was sad AF and the casting was brilliant
Lmao looking for this particular comment before i watch.
A Very Tragic Period!!
This was too sad😭 why couldn’t William just divorce her?!😫 When Gray said I have a niece I was about to wail🥺😭😭😭 Why ladies do that to themselves for fame or wealth? God I have so many questions 😫
the problem wasn’t her nor the decisions she made but the man she was with and how he treated her and the whole situation
I just wanted Grey and her to be together! And the fact that this is a true story 😭😭
It wasnt about fame or wealth. Back then if a woman was divorced or had an affair they were looked down on and casted out of society. Also in this film her husband, the duke, had a high rank and a lot of power.
why does this have the soundtrack from the tudors in it?
0:55 Pemberley ??
At 0:00 That Music Is From Meet Joe Black.
Do you have to read half the movie as well?
watched once and became my roman empire
Outstanding trailer and movie 🙄🙄🙄
But what about Will Turner?
Eerily similar to life of Diana Spencer her great great grand niece.
lmao no way they used The Tudors soundtrack
the movie is a must watch I felt bad for the duchess for her expectations to be loved by her husband and tolerance she had towards him every time he cheats or do her wrong she lost her smile coz of him he only wanted to fullfil his what so called duty which is producing a male heir
Where is the movie available?
This movie is terribly sad. This aristocratic lady had no say in her marriage at all. A bird in a guilded cage indeed.
He never loved her he loved what he could get outta her he was a creep
Music at from 1:40~1:48~? Please.
fides en lucius dei - immediate
@@jannahsantana8726 thanks!!!!
why is no one commenting on the windows movie maker default look of the text in this trailer LOL
The water horse 2007 great excellent movie 700 star👍👍👍👍👍
After I watched the film came here to see opinions only to know Georgiana is a real person and her story is true 💔
And here i thought it was only a novel transformed to a movie 💔
0:09 Grazie Senore, is that you Salieri?
Wow, this is exactly how NOT to do a movie trailer. Lay out the basic story, create some interest, then show the middle of the film, give away some plot resolutions, then show how the central conflict of the film turns out, then show right up until the END of the film.... thanks, in 2 minutes you made me want to see this and then took away any reason to.
Elizabeth? How?!
Simon did cry. 2000,
When narcissistic abuse was "tradition."
How is this pg-13😂😳
There are a few scenes of intimacy. This is not recent.
respect all woman first job is all for the descendants
Everything is fun till the title based on true story 😢
Se eu entendi, é um trisal...
She looks like Lena Headey
i love her but i HATE the way she holds her mouth
omg same its so high up
The Duke was an a**hole throughout this film.😤😤😤😤😤😤
The Duke I think felt trapped just like Georgianna, remember when he said "To be free and careless would be great" and she looked at him with understanding. (I don't exactly remember what he said but it was something like that.)
This movie is so sad. There was less divorce back then because women had no choice
I mean I might 😢 try to keep him busy
Ananya pandey ji... IS HERE.
Zzzde
Hmm the movie was okay, but I find the documentaries about her are way more interesting and scandalous than this. hahah 😂
I hate when they tell the whole story in the trailer
😮😮😮❤🎉
Freedom in moderation is what has kept the civilisation from destruction
How is adultery inspiring? Both men and women, bear that shame eternally.
Please watch the movie without commenting like a idiot after watching the trailer
You'd have to see the movie...
*Yes, it's inspiring, when the husband is a horrible looser.*
@@percyweasley9301 for that time he was a good husband. He didn't beat her and provided for her. They were mismatched is all.
Chana Berlove and his immediate infidelity
Crappiest trailer evar....otherwise I'd watch it on Hulu
