    I know this is a year on, but if you shade/highlight in reverse (dark colors on the raised portions, near-white on the inside) that will go a long way for magical effects. Also if you use a bright silver drybrush in sporadic, random places then use speed paint/contrast or alcohol inks, especially transition from one color at the base to another color at the opposite end, that sells it really well

    You are correct. Finecast only exists on models that were cast in metal before. They tried to change to a cheaper material without changing the molds. The extra gates were tacked on after the fact when finecast was a terrible failure and they tried to improve the flow of the resin by increasing the gates. The forgeworld models were created with the intention of being cast in resin so they work better as resin.

    Absolutely agree. The Knight was an expensive purchase for me having gotten into the hobby very recently. But after learning a lot by painting some of my first minis along the way the model turned out way better than i thought it would have. The Knight is truly a model everyone needs. A true centerpiece even if you don't collect certain armies.

    And in your "Storytime" segment, when you brought up the "Killing stuff is the fun part!" aspect made me remember one time I was facing off against an Eldar armor with my Space Marines... I had a Stormtalon doing it's thing, and he decided that it had enough fun, so tried taking it down, but wasn't having much luck. One of his final shots was a Fire Prism that really had not had much luck this game, but figured "Why not?".... and blew it out of the sky with one shot. The reactions was... well, a lot of surprise and some cheers on my friend's side. Mine was "Well. That happened."
    And it's moments like that, that I love tabletop gaming. :)

    Just split a kit of Helverins/warglaives ($125AUD total from GW direct, Roughly $100 from an indie, so a split would be $62.50/$50AUD). Plus, you can use any spare bits to convert it to a wardog or moiraix, paint em up and have fun.
    Tip though, drybrushing is your friend. Just drybrush some leadbelcher, choose a colour for the shell, put some bronze or another metallic accent on there, shade and you're done. One of the easiest and most fun ways of getting into it.

    I'm painting some black power armour at the moment. I start with a black base coat, drybrush it neutral grey, then spray a coat of Gunship (cool, dark) grey just transparent enough so you can still see the drybrushing. It's actualy more of a charcoal grey, but it looks black, and highlights the edges subtly. Oh, and I give it a wash of Nuln Oil too.

  • @warlordwurzoggwigsplittaht2933
    @warlordwurzoggwigsplittaht2933 3 роки тому +1

    That painting part in the beginning couldn't be more relatable. Its always a challenge when you start practicing new techniques on expensive models that already have a beautiful basecoat and shade on them. But not all hobbies are created equal so don't let yourself get unmotivated. I'm starting to practice edge highlights now. As for blending I have no clue and plasma glowing effect gives me a hard time.

One More HQ and a box of rangers and guardians left. Looking forwards to the test. Going to try to magnetize its weapon options. 💪 EDIT: YOOOOOO! I LOVE the idea of having a friend wingman as the knight! Me and my two best buds all play dnd. But only me and one of them play WHAoS/WH40K. My friends and I did a 2 v 1 in which if the 1 is defeated the 2 then fight each other.
    What’s great is that the 2 players are then very conscientious and wary of throwing everything they got or their best units at the singular opponent because they know what comes after “You should send in your Banshees and my Assault Intercessors will be right behind you..”
    I was 2,000 points of Daemons vs their separate 1,000 points of Eldar and Space Marines.

    I'm glad I finally know how to have a 3-way, I've been trying for years and turns out all I needed was a dreadnaught 😉 I'm in baby!

    They were added as an army fairly recently but they have been part of warhammer lore for so long.
    And in the lore they pre-date the unification wars.....

    Finecast is so bad. I was super disappointed when I got my Grey Knight Brother Captain and it was resin. Even though I'm newish to the hobby, that's easily been the worst model I've had to build and paint. Luckily now that I'm getting back into it, I'm paying attention to what I buy so I don't make that mistake again (luckily when I got Grandmaster Voldus a few weeks ago he wasn't fine cast). Once my painting is better though, I'm 100% picking up an Imperial Knight and painting it as a Grey Knight (I know that's not lore accurate, but it would look so cool).
    That idea of a new guy playing with a random knight just marching around the table sounds so awesome lol.

    Only reason I'd consider it would be to use it as wreckage for an Ork model, or as lootin' material. Overall not a fan of the aesthetic of them as they're meant to be built.
