    I think $60 is a real sweet spot for bourbon. There are so many great options right around $60 and under. In my market (excluding tax) that's getting me OF 1920, OF 1910, Rare Breed, Knob Creek 12yr, Knob Creek 9yr single barrel, Four Roses SBS, Wilderness Trail, Stellum, Baker's 7yr, 1792 FP picks, Bulleit barrel strength. That's not to mention all the other good stuff that's even cheaper.

    When I clicked on the video, I said to myself, just call the video “Rare Breed and 9 other whiskies for under $60” because everyone knows rare breed will be on the list.

      That's amazing. My first thought was...Rare Breed. I have a couple and they are usually 50 to 55 bucks. I was in a store the other day and they had it for 45 bucks. I had to stop myself from buying multiple bottles

    Solid list. I don't see really anyone talk about the regular 94 proof George Remus. I just had this with Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, 1783 and that Green River. It really brought a lot to the table for it's price. Top of the group if not close second that particular night. Maybe I am one of the few that is fond of it. I think around $35ish. Maybe another option in the low 90s proof mid $30's range for others to consider. Cheers!

    Great video! You turned me on to Rare Breed last year and I really appreciate that. OF 1910 is one that I first tried (again last year) in a taster's pack. It had 350s of 1897, 1910 and 1920. Against Rare Breed, 1920 is much "sharper" to the mouth for me... like biting a curry comb, whereas Rare Breed is more like biting a make-up brush (no, I haven't bitten either). I'm finding that mouth-feel is a very important part of my whiskey experience. I love your presentations, please keep them coming.

      Rare breed is a high proof killer. Every glass I pour myself I like it more. KC120 beats it. AlbertaPremiumCask beats it. Otherwise? It makes me regret almost every more expensive bottle I purchased at the 110+ proof point. Nothing against OF1920, but Rare Breed beats it handily. I like MM46cask but Rare Breed beats it too. I need to blind it against good old KC9 to see which I prefer... because if it beats KC9, it's possibly the best value bottle I've got (I do prefer KC12 and KC120 to it, but they are $70 bottles here). Also need to find some of the honey batch Larceny and EC barrel proof batches to compare to see if they can beat it.

    Enjoyed the video! At a recent tasting we all felt that the 1910 was a bit more harsh on the "burn" than the 1920 which I thought was interesting considering the 1910 is quite a bit lower proof. To us, the 1920 was incredibly smooth and drank WAY below it's proof and even burned less than the 1910. Strange how that works haha. But, they are both great pours. I keep hearing about Early Times but I don't really ever see it around here since the BiB is allocated.

    Great recommendations. I just compared Tin Cup 10 to Eagle Rare last night, thinking they may taste very similar. While they are definitely similar, I thought the Tin Cup was more balanced, sweeter and overall enjoyable. The Eagle Rare was a bit watery compared. Tin Cup 10 is surprisingly good, especially for a lower proof!

    Everybody has different taste buds and different likes and dislikes.
    I have tried bourbon that people just raved about that I didn’t like....1792 knobs creek and four roses for me just didn’t float my boat at all.
    I like the miniatures when I can find them rather than buying a big bottle. When I bought 1792 it wasn’t anywhere near the cost you said. I paid like $37 for it and regretted it. I know. Everybody’s different.
    All of these are nice bourbons so I’m not saying they’re not, just that there is a certain something that I want to taste in bourbon that I can’t put my hands on.

I had a couple pours of these last night and the four roses seemed like there was so much more to it. Maybe because it’s non chill filtered. Thanks, again, for what you bring to the community. Appreciate this video very much! Have you noticed any difference between the old and new Early Times BiB? Also, since the Nelson Bros is sourced from Bardstown, does it have any similarities to other Bardstown products? Never tried any of their stuff and curious if this is an affordable way to fry some. Thanks!

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  Рік тому

      We know that’s the common refrain with Brown Forman vs Sazerac Early Times but we’ve been through three bottles of each and it hasn’t been the case with our bottles. In fact we had a blind flight night with Patreon a few months back and the Sazerac Early Times beat the Brown Forman Early Times for everyone and it also beat EH Taylor SmB for 12 out of 14 people. Our Sazerac ET bottles have been so much more of a darker and richer cherry cola profile compared to the banana pudding profile of the Brown Forman Early Times. The variance on these is pretty wild.
      For Nelson Bros it’s reportedly their own mashbill that Bardstown is doing contract distillation work on. We wouldn’t say it’s wildly different in as much as Kentucky bourbon is already a pretty narrow spectrum of flavors, but it’s certainly its own product.

    Wish I could get Green River in my area as I have heard good things in many places, but I am 90% behind you on all of these (though I have only had the older Belle Meade Reserve not the newer Nelson Bros. version) with the exception of Tin Cup 10yr. Though I agree that the "regular" version is a big ol' double thumbs down and the 10-yr is WAAAAY better, I really don't think it compares to Eagle Rare for complexity of flavor. Easier to find FOR SURE, but it just doesn't do it for me. YMMV.

    • @stuffandwhiskey
      @stuffandwhiskey  Рік тому +1

      That’s fair Chris, and Eagle Rares can vary quite a bit too. If you get a good one, it’s hard to find a comparable bottle for the money at retail. If you get an average to odd one, you’ll wonder what all the fuss is about. We’ve got one standard and one store pick right now and if someone tried the store pick blind they might actually dump the glass down the sink instead of finish it because it’s so odd.

      @@OttoBoy gotcha! It’s in my area consistently for $55. So you’re saying I should be taking advantage of this…

    • @OttoBoy
      @OttoBoy Рік тому

      @@BeersHunter I don’t know the whiskey market in Delaware - I’m in Southern California - but $55 would be a good price here. This expression is always on the shelves at bottle shops, usually at ~$62-$67 on average. Single Barrel 100 proof is usually ~$45-$50. Costco has recently sold it at $38.
      If $55 has been the going price in Delaware for a while, you should be OK buying as you want it. But if prices tend to be volatile in Delaware - they almost always have been going up here - you may want to stash away some if it’s not a financial issue.
      As an example, Eagle Rare is not too hard to get around here - was low $20s forever until around 2017 - bumped up to $28-$30. Barrel picks were usually ~$33-$35. Local bottle shops just got in a shipments recently - not barrel picks. New price is $40. So my walk away with whiskey is, because demand is completely overwhelming supply (especially anything considered to be quality stuff), expect prices to continue rising for the foreseeable future. “Affordable” and “whiskey” are rarely mentioned together.
