Welcome to the onboard footage from our most recent and arguably most enjoyable track day yet at Blyton Park in the Clio 172 and 306 GTi6. After suffering from over-intrusive ABS on both cars during our last outing we decided to deactivate the ABS entirely, with interesting results! Combined with a couple of other setup tweaks it also meant that finally the Clio was up to the job for our sideways needs.

Clio:
Intake - Ramair induction kit
Exhaust - decat, custom stainless catback
Front suspension - BC DS coilovers with 3.5 degrees negative camber (adjustable top mounts, camber bolts)
Rear suspension - BC DS 'coilovers', rear axle shim plates (slight rear toe-out)
Front Brakes - Ferodo DS3000 pads, Brembo HC plain disks, braided brake lines
Rear Brakes - Pagid pro race pads, Brembo HC plain disks, braided brake lines
Tyres - Nankang AR1 205/50/15
Interior - rear cage, perspex front windows, fully stripped
150KG of ballast!!
306:
Intake - standard intake with K&N panel filter
Exhaust - decat, Scorpion catback exhaust
Front suspension - KW coilovers and 2.25 degrees negative camber (machined hubs, standard top mounts)
Rear suspension - 21mm torsion bars, 205 Bilstein Group A dampers, solid beam mounts
Front Brakes - Standard calipers and discs with Carbon Lorraine CL6 Pads
Rear Brakes - Standard
Tyres - Nankang AR1 205/50/15
Interior - stripped

You know those people complaining how FWD cars are boring?? Well, they have to see this ! :)
FWD cars are good to start to drive the first years o enjoy a little bit in mountain roads, but no for spend 10.000€ on it. After this you must go with AWD or RWD cars.
Myself started with a 2004 Clio, after 3 years I changed it for a 2004 Impreza, and its another world. Anoher friend had a golf mk2 gti 16v and he changed it for a bmw 325ci e46, and he’s winning with the change.
Don’t know what the gti is like but the Clio 172 is such a joy to drive, I had a completely stock one from brand new in 2002 and I loved it so much. It just put a smile on your face just driving it around town. Used to surprise people dragging them off at the lights against the V6s and V8s haha.

To be fair, so does the chap in the Clio. Gti-boi is fast and lairy, the Clio driver is fast and smoother (but still apt for some lift off oversteer). Great fun to watch both!
If you mean by that overdriving like hell, then yes, overdriving is not the fastest way around the track

I noticed however that he doesn’t do a real heel and toe. The way he reach the gas pedal is still impressive.

I wanted to see if I could change gear in a right had drive car so my brother floored it down the motorway while i changed gear for him he used clutch I just listened for engine and watched his feet it worked surprisingly well we never missed a gear and did it all with no verbal communication stupid but fun

My first track day was at Blyton, in my leased Abarth 124, I nearly hit the barrier on the way out of the wiggler whilst showing off for the camera man. Still the most fun day of my life I think, lots of big skids in the rain.
Glad you got away with it! We have to say it's definitely one of the most fun days we've ever had too!
I love seeing you having fun, and I love that you don't shy away from showing up the occasional mistake.
On a side note, you guys are really making me want to buy a 306 xD

Funny how we clearly see the action of the autodirectional rear axle on the 306 on the corner exits, great all time chassis but sometimes the effect can be violent and destabilizing.

The guy on the 306 is absolutely insane!
The Clio probably suffers more from disabling the ABS as it most likely has EBD and gets 50/50 brake balance to front and rear when ABS disabled. The 306 has older ABS system and most likely has separate proportioning valve which limits the brake pressure to the rear at all times. It's interesting to notice how much easier and safer it really is to drive with ABS on even if it was a bit intrusive at times :D

You both are crazy. Cool driving though, nice heel-toe and left foot braking.
Removing ABS on my civic transformed the braking capabilities. Also, it definitely forces you to refine your technique!
I have abs that works on 1 of my 1991 Integra's but not the first one I owned, and the abs systems are old, and deteriorated, and I think I can out brake the abs because I've driven so long with out, I can usually tell about when it should kick in. I haven't been able to test it yet cause one need its engine bearings replaced(spun bearing I think) and the other needs the engine put back together after an headgasket leak.
Definitely adds another element to driving!
@@CamberandCombustion you can get better braking distances I've noticed by not using abs because when it activates it takes the braking force away whereas locking the wheels for a split second and or threshold braking is constant
Larry Sanders agreed, especially in cars like these where the ABS is quite basic - when it detects one wheel locks, it releases braking force on all wheels!

Great driving from you both, so fun to watch. Iv owned both cars there both Great. Most fun I ever had. Although my clio had a 40bhp remap! Highly recommended that! 👍🤣

0:40 passive rear steering, my favourite thing in the peugeot 306. I had some great laughs chucking mine about, I want a P1 GTI6 next for some track day fun :)
Believe it or not but the passive rear steering has been deleted on this 306. It’s running solid rear beam mounts as the standard ones deteriorated and are massively expensive to replace new!
@@CamberandCombustion I can imagine. Looks the car still handles well enough as if it had passive rear steering anyway. Or at least shows the signs from the way you throw it into the corners. That's some faith
The frenchies certainly knew how to build the cars back in the day. Id probably snap my neck if I caught sight of something like a 306 rallye, metro 64, renault 5 gtt. There's something about them.
They are the kinda cars I grew up around though, so I will always have fond memories of them

really the way you 2 are driving you dont need any mods!! im not to sure if it had cams or a map but it did run really lumpy 3rd to 4th took a beating aswell twice i changed the gear box mount.. awesome driving from both of u wish i was a passenger wld be some buzz man!!
