Take your top off! Early Bronco

- To take the top off your bronco is actually pretty easy, but I know the first time I did it I was pretty nervous that is was going to be difficult and take a long time. It only takes me about 10 minutes but there are a couple tricks I do.
I only put in 4 bolts to hold my top on in the back. And I put the bolts in the spots that are easy to get to along the bed rail. Then I just take my 1/2 inch wrench and slide it over the nut under the rail, the take my 1/2 inch socket and loosen the bolt.
There are 7 bolts along the windshield but I only keep two in there for summer and those are really easy to get to.
Then what I've done is taken two 2x4s and added a couple eye bolts to the ends. Then I slide the 2x4s under the top. The top isn't super heavy and I can lift it with my back and slide the 2x4 in.
I've also put 4 eye bolts into the studs. Make sure you get these in the studs not just in the drywall. Then I take my ratcheting straps. Hook one end to the bolt in the ceiling and the other to the bolt on the wood. And ratchet it until it's tight.
Special thanks to Ike Elgard for the drone footage. Ike is an amazing drone photographer in Nashville if you ever need one.

this was perfect - love the roof system you got too. Thanks
Thanks
Great Video but too bad your bronco didn't have the headliner/factory wiper housing and back vertical support beams as these add a whole new degree of difficulty.
Great videos. Thank You
that was cool and easy, definitely going to give it a try, thanks.
+John DePaoli awesome!
LOL you post this very detailed video AFTER I take the top off mine for the first time (learning the hard way). Great detail. Great vid.
+Khalid haha! Sorry man!
Love the early broncos. I have one the same color.
+heavyfarandfast awesome! Yeah they are super fun
Mine is also a '75. I am just north of you in Bowling Green.
+heavyfarandfast nice! Let me know if you are ever in Nashville
Awesome! How do you store your doors in the garage?
On a blanket up against the wall. I should make some hooks to hang them from
Is pb blaster or wd40 bad for rubber and gaskets?
you should notch the 2x4's near the roof rails so the lip dosn't flaten out. great video
I was going to comment about this. Notching is a good idea. I ended up adding 3/4" thick plywood squares on top of the 2x4. It gives just enough height and surface area so the top is resting in a way similar to how it would be when installed. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
+ron wilson good idea
Great idea. We'll probably do that, once we figure out how to get the top of our off. Previous owner sealed it on with paint. 😢
But we're determined to make it right, again!
Do you have to use the ratchet straps and stuff?
Hey thanks for the wonderful video! I just got a bronco and didn't know how to take the roof off until now. Just to know, how tall is your garage? I don't even know if I have room to do this in my garage!
+Chad Smith thanks Chad! Just measured and my garage is 8ft 3in
How easy is it to lower your top with the ratchet straps? Considering getting a hoist but ratchet straps are more budget friendly.
+Houston Ezell it's not easy! Definitely the down side of the design. I use a step ladder to get more leverage.
I have a 68 bronco and for some reason the top wants to come off besides the very back by the tailgate any ideas
There are bars that go down into the back of the Bronco body that are attached to the top. Mine are short, but originally they went down about 4 inches.
the older bronco is way better then the newer one :/
What year is this bronco?
1975
Jon, how do you take the top off now that you have a cage?
+Ryan Holland haven’t figured it out yet. It’s on for now
Nashville Early Bronco I’ll be waiting for that update in a future video 😄
I watched this one before I bought my Bronco and was excited at how easy you made it look, but then the truck I bought had a cage so I never got to try it out.
Love the videos!
+Ryan Holland thanks man!
doesn't show the rear posts, do you cut them off?
You can unscrew the rear posts
@@NashvilleEarlyBronco thanks, mine seem. to be stuck and don't want to snap the bolt or put my hand through the side window. have been debating cutting it off.
That’s crazy!
How do you even find a bronco 😪
