    Those are the coolest ramps I've seen. So simple but effective. If I were to build them I think the only thing different I would do would be put cross-bracing in them from top to bottom at a 45°. Great work man.

    Great idea well executed.
    Rather that lying under a vehicle that's not far from your face, with these ramps you have far more space, almost like having a pit. Great work !

    I'd like to see a cross tube added front and back through which another tube could be slid right across to link the two units together. You could drill the cross tubes for pins with holes in the links every two inches. You'd still have full track adjustability, but the cross tubes would reduce sideways racking and prevent a parallelogram collapse.

      I used to do it the poor man's way - stask up a bunch of 2x10 boards - staggered slope at the end todrive up onto them. Tody. all thse boards might cost as much as the the steel used in this one and the wood won't last nearly as long :-0)

    Just the ticket. I mangled two mouldy ramps I made out of a manky old car transporter driving my diesel Alfa up on it and I've been eyeballing my scrap pile looking to make simple ramps it won't crush. You've confirmed what my gut feeling the 50x50x3 angle I have is both insufficient in length and thickness. 50x50x5 sounds far better, and it won't be all rusty.

    The only improvement I’d make is to add a triangulation diagonal between some of the verticals to brace it - it might not need it but I’d worry about the domino effect.
    Edit, should have read the other comments! 😃

    • @michiel5160
      @michiel5160 9 місяців тому +2

      The back part is basically a giant triangle and will hold shape. That also means that the top and back vertical of the rectangle up front will stay in place. So if they welds are solid, it can't move.
      Left to right I'd definitely put in some cross member. Also in the top and bottom.
      And one in the front rectangle in each side to take some load of the joints.

    • @ianmib
      @ianmib 3 місяці тому +1

      @@michiel5160 the diagonal members of those ramps do not count as bracing, nobody should be using these. Also have you ever seen any engineered device that requires you to be under the load while lifting? This is one of the most ill-advised DIY disasters waiting to happen that I have ever seen on you-tube. But hey, if in doubt just add more metal glue, right?
