I finally stopped being so tough on myself about my bag collection. I just got to the point where I didn't understand why I, a financially responsible adult who can afford these things, tortured myself over the practicality of my hobby. I accepted that I'm going to wear a bag, at most, a few weeks out of the year. I change my everyday carry weekly, and pick my weekend bags based on my social outings. I love my bags. I have fun styling my outfits around them-and I realized that's justification enough.
@mckenziehart6228 I really love that attitude. I have been struggling lately and it's not like I am hurting anyone or not enjoying other things in life over these things. I am going to try and adopt your sunny attitude!
Love this! Totally agree with this! I am similar in my rotations. There are some bags like my Chanel jumbo that I’ve only worn 3 times in the last 5 years since getting it but it’s sentimental and beautiful and so expensive to replace so I won’t sell it. Plus I do still love it. I will make a point of carrying it this winter as it’s a bigger bag.
I submitted a Neverfull to Fashionphile for a quote. I currently have two in my collection and during Covid I became a permanent WFH person. I no longer need two of these and I thought with the price increases by LV I might be able to get most of my money back. That has not been the case. I’m riding it out & will get another quote at a later date. My style has definitely changed and bags I was once interested in (for example, the Lady Dior) just don’t work for my lifestyle anymore. There are days I don’t even leave the house 😂. I’m perfectly happy with what I have now.
First, so glad you are back. I used to sell bags go fund other bags. I recently bought the Louis Vuitton Monoglam Speedy and sent my brand new condition, special edition Chanel WOC to Fashionphile for a quote. I told myself I would fund the nee bag with the WOC, which is gorgeous but I rarely use. They offered me $1,500 for a bag I know they would list for $3,000 or more. I kept it. In the end, I do love it. It is worth more than $1,500 to me. I would rather give it to someone I love for free than let go of it to enrich Fashionphile. I'm a thoughtful buyer. I don't have a ton of bags. I love what I have. If I don't have cash, I don't buy. In the end, Im probably not selling anything else.
I've sold a few bags that didn't work for me, with no regrets. Although I've ALWAYS lost money on these sales, at least I've recouped something, so it's not just money sitting on the shelf. I don't own any Chanel bags, but if I did, I probably wouldn't let those go right now for all the reasons you stated. One pro you didn't mention is that selling gets you some money for your next bag! Looking forward to your Vegas haul video!
Yes I didn't say in the video but I have always kinda looked at it like I "rented" the bag for a bit. And yes that is a pro! Thank you, hopefully I will have it up soon!
Hi there! I for the most part try and live by the rule one out to bring another in. So, I sell one to get another. I tend to buy a lot of pre-loved bags that are in excellent condition or like new. A couple of times a year I treat myself to a brand new bag. I live in Minnesota, so we are limited to the boutiques we can go to to buy in person. A new LV purchased on line never hurt anyone right? My collection really never goes higher than about 14 bags. I just don't need any more than that. Honestly, I'd like to get it down to 10 bags, and try my best to rotate the ones I have. As I get older, I have realized the value in just using these bags and loving them. I no longer want them to sit on a shelf like some monument that I adore. I'm using them, and it's fun! I'd like to think with a little over a dozen really nice bags I have one for ever occasion. Even though I keep my collection small, I still look all the time. I'm in my mid 50's and I'm getting close to figuring out my handbag style I think? Who knows really, but it's fun trying! Love to see you back! I truly missed you and your videos. They have always been very helpful to me!
I’ve found I’m happy with my collection, and have no plans to sell anymore. I have about 22 luxury bags, and I’m keeping my contemporary bag collection for my daughter. She’s 13 and uses my Coach bags from time to time. I don’t plan to buy anymore bags either.
I agree with you about paying taxes if you selling items over 600 dollars i dont think that a fair, who ever make that laws i already paid taxes for same item then i must paid again if i sell i feel that a brain wash .somebody control our money where we spend.
Yesss! We are all so glad to see you! Fashionphile recently low-balled me on a 21A metiers d’art boy bag in excellent condition. It was so shocking and I figured I’m better off keeping my bag than just giving it to them. It would have truly infuriated me to see them selling it for 2 or 3 times what they were going to give me for it. But even if Fashionphile did pay fairly, Chanel prices go up so much that you realize you can never buy the same bag back again for the same lower price you once paid.
@epstyle2883 Thank you! Yes that is really why it's so hard to let the Chanel go. I am really shocked at all the lowball offers they've been giving people.
Thank you, I enjoy all your videos and reviews on bags and recipes look so delicious, can’t wait to try them. Yes I have bags I spent good money that I don’t use. I also have given my two daughters bags . I have bought some small items you have showed, like the small Longchamp LE FOULONNÉ coin purse, did know about them. So useful to organize inside my bag., thank you. Love organization, and I have learned from you, thank again. 🙏🏻
It’s so wonderful to see you!!! 🤗❤️😘 Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts with us! It was great to hear your pros/cons! (P.S. Your wavy hairstyle is beautiful!)
Loved this discussion and great to see you back ! I feel the same way you do about selling bags. I've sold one mini bag this year because it wasn't functional as it didn't fit my phone. I have about 15 bags, most of them fewer than 3 years old. I've thought about selling a couple of vintage or least used but I wouldn't get much and my 19 year old daughter is interested in them. I have a pink Chanel that doesn't get a lot of use, but it's so pretty and I wouldn't re purchase, so I try to find occasions for her. For the most of part, my bags are not duplicative and are timeless so Im going to try and enjoy and find an occasion to wear them. This will bring me more joy than taking a loss. I would say sell if you are overwhelmed by your collection and don't see yourself using or passing on to your daughter. The right number is different for everyone but 15 including clutches and totes feels right to me- but I could 100% handle 25. 😊
Glad to have you back! And happy that you got your IG back too! 🎉🎉🎉 I have to catch up on your 1st video back though, will do that! 🙌🏼♥️🥰 The new prices of bags these days are making me not want to buy new, and in the same way, I don’t want to sell because replacing them just cost too much. The marketplace is saturated with lots of preloved right now. It’s not exactly a sell season, it’s better to wait and buy something preloved. ♥️♥️♥️
Great topic! I discovered I enjoy designer bags a lot, but I can be equally happy with contemporary bags, too. In fact, sometimes it feels more comfortable to me to carry contemporary bags. But, as I do love designer bags, too, I have purposely limited those bags to no more than 3 and they are classic and timeless bags. Why? There is a method to my madness 😊 I have 3 daughters. They know my love of handbags. I thought it would be really cool for each of them to have one of their Mom’s designer bags when I leave this earth. A memory of me, if you will. In the meantime, I do carry the designer bags now and then. To enjoy. But, to keep them pristine, I carry my contemporary bags more. I keep my overall “collection” to no more than 10 bags. If my contemporary bag purchases push my collection over 10, I gift away. My contemporary bags are all Coach from the 1941 line. Quality bags. So, in summary I no longer sell. Too stressful. And, you lose money. So, I just keep my bag purchases reigned in. 😊
So glad you’re back. I have zero luxury bags, but if did have one it would be the Boy. It is gorgeous. Again, you were missed and I’m so glad to see you again.
I’m really not trying to sell anymore. I’ve really narrowed it down to the bags I use the most. I’m at the point, like yourself, where I don’t want to buy if I do not love.
So nice to have you back on UA-cam Melinda. Welcome back to the club 🤩 Selling of handbags eh...of late i wanted to sell one of my LV canvas handbag to a 2nd hand consigner but the price sucks before the price increased but i doubt i will get any better even after the price increase. Moreover the handbag i had just used it once or twice. After getting the quote if i were to sell (this is just 2 months ago), i told myself, that is fine, i will just keep it and used it. I am adding some handbags in my collection but i am even more caution and selective now after knowing what works and what did not work for me. Anyway, i just have a handful of luxury handbags (less than 10 in total) so thus i do not mind keeping that. Yeah, i do not want to regret it too and the price has increased so much since i purchased it 3 years ago. I think the 2nd hand consigner are having difficulty in selling off the handbags too given the economy situation, even their prices are cheaper than the boutique, i mean even for Chanel Classic that is new with stickers and chip, i see their prices are cheaper than in the boutique. Ok that is for Chanel, but certainly not Hermes. Thus they do not want to take in more i guess. Thanks for sharing 🤗
I agree with all your points. Too much of a headache to sell for the most part. I use all my bags, slgs, totes, travel pieces, and pouches....except one...my classic LV Speedy 30 in DE sits there because it is too big. I do not carry that much but love the bag. I know I will not get much for it, so not worth selling. I may change my mind one day and want to carry a big bag. Have a beautiful week! And thanks for sharing❤
The new tax law for the 1099 is ridiculous. You can show a loss, but having the documentation can be tricky depending on how long you’ve owned the bag you sell.
@@LuxPurseloveyes that law is on hold. Also if you sell at a loss you don’t need to report it and if you use options like Zelle they don’t send 1099’s as they just transfer money.
@@LuxPurselove the threshold is being negotiated. The states with this law in effect shouldn't dictate for everyone else. They're the reason it's $600. I think $10,000 is fair.
I’m soooo glad you’re back in UA-cam!!! I’m binge watching all of your recent videos lol. Love your natural curls, you look beautiful. I personally sell items I don’t use if I’m able to get back a decent amount. I’ve been on a selling frenzy and simplifying my life! The last item I sold was a speedy 30 that I bought years ago for under $1000 but didn’t use it because it had no strap so I sold it and bought the same bag with a strap that I wear to work. Also I’ve sold because wearing too much luxury in this bad economy is making me more of a target for thieves. I pretty much only wear the lux bags to work and if I’m out and about I wear my lululemon belt bag.
Thanks so much Dayle! Can you feel the guilt through the screen lol? I have been fine until recently but I think making some really big purchases back to back has me feeling like I have too much.
Interesting topic and I feel the same sentiment. I’ve bought and sold a lot over the last 2-3 years. It’s such a frustrating and stressful process. This year I have not sold anything, I finally got my collection(12 bags) to a number that I am comfortable that all will get some love from me. That said, I have not really been purchasing like I have in the past. I’m following the one in and one out rule. And currently I love all my bags and don’t want to let any of them go. So for now I just shop my closet and admire from afar. Thanks for the video!!
Great topic Melinda, excellent points you brought up too. I think if a bag no longer brings you joy ; sell it. It’s just money sitting on the shelf. I also feel it’s important for people to know that’s it’s not realistic to recoup all your money on a “ used” bag. If that’s the case then purchase it brand new from the boutique . I’ve lost money on selling bags but I don’t have any regrets because bags need to be used and loved not just sit on a shelf. You’ve made us all wiser about both purchasing and selling . Thanks for mentioning me 😊❤
Girl, I sold so many bags last year. I had too many just sitting on my shelf, or just really not giving me the value for what I paid. I do have several bags that I don't use a ton - a Chanel boy, an LV white multicolor (lord, I love that bag even if everyone thinks they're gaudy), and some others - that I'll never get rid of because I just love them so much. When I use them, they make me happy. The other bags I sold, not so much. Fashionphile and TRR gave me absolutely abysmal offers...like, the worst. I did sell some Hermes pieces to them, I guess they just hold their value better for that market. I ended up selling the rest on Poshmark and Mercari with great results. In all cases, I got close to or more than what I paid, other than the Hermes pieces - I took a hit on those. (Also, I'm so glad you're back!)
So glad to see you back ! I never sold any bags and don't attend to. I have something like 15 luxury bags which is a small collection and I never regret any purchases. All of them have a purpose and I was mindfull about my choices. I know I will still wear them ten years from now. Maybe if it wasn't the case I would have sell some. Also, it feels like a huge step I'm not willing to take to get rid of a bag in a perfect condition for the fraction of the price I bought it. So clearly, I would be bother to sell nowadays and lose that much money if it's not necessary. I never was attracted by the idea of resselling all the time bags and clothing so I can have a brand new collection. Every piece I own has its story and is meaningful to me. It's not the same journey as someone who's into trend with a more detached look about fashion.
Great video! A few thoughts…I say if you’re not using them possibly consider selling them to purchase a piece of jewelry. It’s so hard when you think about losing money…but you should surround yourself with what gives you joy. I have bags I never use as well. Now when I consider buying a bag I always ask myself will I grab this over one of my favorite bags? I usually get my answer. I love that you have them all organized. Such great points on both sides. 🥰🙌
Great topic for discussion! I have some vintage Coach bags I want to sell after refurbishing them, but haven't gotten around to getting that part tackled yet. It's mostly about decluttering for me at this point. (PS You look really happy and relaxed in these videos and it's so nice to see it after the tough year-plus that you were dealing with.)
I have always found it hard to part with my bags and have a few I don't use at all now. I also go through fazes of wanting to part with all of them except for maybe keeping my Chanel bags (I have 4) and thats it. But then I get cold feet! Now feels like a bad time to sell anyway. The ones I should sell - a mix of old Mulberry, Givenchy, and a Gucci disco bag wouldn't fetch much but it would be good to have the money in my pocket and space on my shelf. Great to see you back by the way!
Thank you! Yes it seems like a bad time to sell from all the comments on here. Maybe hold on a little longer, the extra money would be nice as would the space!
My mom told me the other day “ Well, if you sell now you will get money back as opposed to later when it’s not trending anymore. Sometimes we are just not ready to let go and that’s okay. I have gotten to a point that I would rather just everything to therealreal and sell. They do get a % but I don’t t worry about shipping or other issues. I also get more money way more $$ than rebag or fashionphile offer.
I've been wanting to let go of my pristine large chanel 19 and the quotes I got from Fashionphile and Rebag were a bit comical ($2500-$2560).....and I saw the exact same bag as mine in way worse condition being listed on Rebag for $6400. I just can't stomach that loss....
I completely appreciate everyone's comments. I've sold so many bags. I have kept most of my luxury bags with the exception of four. I think I will keep what I have. Although I may sell for my whole luxury collection for my son's education.
Great video and points. Love your LV bag and your husband was so right about Chanel , getting more and more expensive. Thanks for your video and great to see you back ❤
I bought the Chanel small leather Deauville tote in the navy blue from Fashionphile a year ago. I have not worn it yet, but will never sell it. Same thing with the Chanel lamb skin chain around messenger. I say keep your bags until you just really don’t want them. As you said it is stressful and time consuming.😢 I just try not to repeat the same bag in a different color.
I am thinking of selling a couple of bags too. Bags I sought after but haven’t used much or at all. I submitted pics to Rebag for Goyard Artois. We’ll see what happens. What you said resonates about money on the shelf you’re not using.
Good to see you back! 😊 I should sell as I have too many bags and I don't want to have things cluttering up my life anymore. I'm just too lazy to do it but either I sell or I donate, as these are lower end contemporary bags and not worth much.
Good to see you again! I find that when I find a new bag that I love my mind automatically selects a bag in my collection to kick out to make space lol
I realized that I neglected to mention a response to your question in the video. I have found that since the pandemic, I am naturally open to downsizing. I was fortunate to do a lot of this during the early part of the pandemic and the sell pricing was better. Things have definitely gotten worse and Fashionphile which had been my go to in a lot of cases is not very good right now. I don't have Chanel - mostly LV and Lanvin. I am ready to part with some others but won't sell for these ridiculous prices. I did sell a few bags and SLG's on eBay and did well but a bit of nail biting if people would be honest, etc. I am holding off anything further and hoping things improve. I also am down quite a bit and feel really good about this. I've donated some bags that don't have resale value as they aren't "luxury" and felt good about that. A lot of what went into my decision to part with bags was that I no longer go to business and need to carry a large bag. I am enjoying my crossbody bags and smaller sized bags. Thx for the video!
Hi Melinda! Great to see you! I am having a bit of an issue with storage space so I’m trying to be a bit more mindful with my handbag purchases this year, although I do have a few pieces on my radar, mostly Hermes and Loewe. In my current collection, I’d say my Chanel Jumbo is probably in the same situation as your Boy Bag. The Jumbo is so heavy, I wish I’d bought the regular size instead (10 years ago). Now I can’t bear to spend that kind of money on a Classic Flap so I’m just hanging on to my Jumbo for that reason. I may just try to get rid of a couple of contemporary and “unbranded” bags just to clear some space.
Good to see you too Corrine! The jumbo is so heavy and the medium is a little too small. I have a complaint with all of the Chanel ones lol but no way would I part with those classics! Good idea to clear out some other brands.
I sold all my LV except for one Speedy B 30 and a Noe. One has sentimental value and the other I got dirt cheap. Chanel will not be sold until I absolutely have to. If I sell and regret it I will never be able to get it back because prices are insane. So, in the shelf they stay, neatly stuffed and packed in their dust bags. I don't really have a set number or fixed rule on what stays and goes otherwise. I do like to have a purpose for every bag and avoid repeats. Even if I don't use all of them all the time, they all have their moment.
I never dreamed how high Chanel would go! I am guilty of repeats if I really love a bag and that's a hard one for me. It is good that all yours have their moment.
Love seeing you back on UA-cam! I had sooo many bags i was never using. I sold so many things and am sticking with my collection and enjoying what I have before I purchase again. The resale market has played a part in this. I don’t want to stress anymore on the monetary losses I would continue to have. Just going to simplify it a bit.
I have changed my mind a couple of times about selling my bags. A couple of regrets so I am very careful about deciding to sell. Consequently, I realize I just like looking at them and they mean a lot to me. Great memories attached to them.
Melinda, I am sooo happy that you are back!!! And you are apparently much more relaxed and much happier than before your break. 😘I don`t sell my luxury bags either. Sometimes I think I should, because sometimes it gets overwhealming, but when I try to chose one, I don`t have the heart to let it go. And I am pretty sure, just like you said, that I would regret it later on. Seems I have chosen my luxury bags very well 🙂Also I am afaid of all the hassle of selling expensive bags. So I am rahter buying more shelves and racks and try to enjoy the caring and dusting, too🙃
So glad to see you back on YT! While I haven't bought anything lately from Fashionphile, I can see how the prices are significantly less than a year ago. So much so that I'm thinking of picking up an Hermes Birkin. I've been working with an SA for the past three years and have not been offered one despite what I consider quite few purchases through her. At this point, I can justify the somewhat higher than retail price instead of continuing to buy and hope to finally get an offer. Any thoughts on being a buyer in this downturn market?
Thank you! I think that is a great idea to get the exact Birkin you want that way. You probably would end up spending less in the long run. You know I didn't even think of that with FP since I haven't been following resale but I did get a bag while I was away for under retail. I think it's a great time to look preloved now from what all the comments have said.
I did not buy my first luxury handbag until I turned 50. I could have afforded to many years before that but didn’t. I thought only crazy people would spend small fortunes on a handbag (no offense! 🙏🏻☺️). But one day me and my bff went to Chanel… “just to look”. 😮😊 And I fell MADLY IN LOVE. So then I went on a frenzy of buying luxury handbags. I NEVER thought I would sell a bag, but I got to the point that I could not justify buying another bag if I didn’t let one go. And the hunt and purchase is definitely a big part of the fun for me. So I have actually ended up selling quite a few the past few years. Do I have regrets? ABSOLUTELY, but I realize that I can’t justify 40 Chanel bags. But I think I am at a good place now with all my treasures (bags) - I have a wonderfully curated collection at this point. And I have enjoyed every minute of the fun!
Them hunt used to be a big part for me too. I am glad you were able to curate your collection and love everything you have! That is what it's all about, loving them and using them!
This was such an interesting video Melinda. I went through a period of buying and selling for about 3-4 years because I didn’t know how the bag would work in my collection until I owned it even after doing research. Now I return them right away if it’s not right. The last bag I sold was an Hermes bag 1.5 years years ago. I’m at 24 designer bags now plus some contemporary and some Lululemon casual ones and I really try to rotate. I don’t want to sell for the time being because I’ve lost so much money selling and I would rather just try to use what I have. I don’t have children so when I do feel like letting any go I one day, as I agree that it’s money on a shelf, I will go to a local consignment store, or to close friends who have bought my bags, as I can’t imagine shipping my bag off to a stranger and worrying about it. Love having you back on here for these great chats 😘
I went through a big buy/sell phase as well! But like you, I know now what I like and I have a curated collection. I don’t plan to sell because of the same reasons you stated. But I have slowed way down on purchasing as well. It takes a perfect bag for me to buy another. ❤❤❤ But I do have one or two on my radar at the moment!
I just recently hit the point of questioning the number of bags I own. I just got back from Vegas and purchased 2 more while there. I have 9 lux designer bags. In future years I MAY a purchase a tote, not sure. Meanwhile I have probably 35 contemporary/vintage bags from Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Kate Spade (gateway obsession) collected over 25 years. I have always kept them because I won't get much money selling and I do pull them out occasionally. Now that I am hitting bag overload I wonder if I should try to sell the contemporary/vintage group and if so how to do it in the easiest manner....I will probably just think about it for the next 3 years honestly unless some easy method crosses my path!
It is a hard question to ponder! I sold a lot of my contemporary brand bags to start my luxury collection on eBay but I think it is different now and not as easy.
Melinda I am not buying or selling. I have a small collection to others, 12 luxury bags. I did purchase a Pochette metis back in May but it was from Fashionphile. I had one, let it go and regretted it. I probably haven’t purchased new from a boutique in a year and a half. I find the price increases and quality issues to be a huge turn off especially with inflation. For some reason it’s left a very bad taste in my mouth. I got a quote from Fashionphile over a year ago & they totally low balled me. I have sold to them before so I was shocked! Guess for now I will continue to enjoy what I have & honestly I have been. We shall see what the future holds for me and luxury. 🤷🏻♀️
I think 12 is a great number. You can easily use them all. Yes I agree the prices and quality are a huge turnoff. So many have said Fashionphile gave low offers or even refused to buy the bags. It is just crazy.
Love your blue tshirt today! I’m planning to do my first vlog sale and I’m nervous about sellers regret because I love the items but I NEVER use them and that gives me guilt, particularly when there are things I want that I would use.
It’s good to see you back! I’m hanging on to maybe two because they’d be good if my lifestyle changes (like grandchildren one day) but for now, they’re too big. I have considered just letting them go though.
I will just list the price I want and if someone wants it, I let go. If no one wants it it's fine too. I will not lower the price and sell too much lower than I would like to bc i don't need the money
I recently sold 4 items but mostly because I wanted to add something else. They were pieces I was comfortable parting with so no regrets. Fashionphile kind of low balled me on 1 item so I kept it. I’m satisfied with what I have now and enjoy everything. Likely won’t be adding anything anytime soon or selling anything else
I'm sure selling a bag has always been stressful but Nothing like today and the coming days even. Just like most things - there's a buyer's market and a seller's market and somewhere in between. I truly believe we are witnessing the later. Each of these bags are lovely. 💛
I feel different about this at different times - sometimes I want to downsize and others I want to hang on to more for variety. If I have the space to store them I er on the side of keeping for some of the reasons you mention. I hate clutter though and I have no more room so if I add anything I will have to rethink the size of my collection or how I store them. Currently I’m not rotating enough so I’m back to switching at least every week.
The reality is the market is over saturated with high end premium goods. I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon as sales seem to be increasing in the luxury fashion houses. Giving some of your bags to your children is a lovely thing to do. Personally I don’t think holding on to bags you no longer use is a good idea but it’s like the stock market isn’t it? It’s hard to know what to do. Enjoyed your vlog.
as much as it pains me to have money sit there and me wanting to pay off our truck, it pains me more having to lose money. i will hold out and admire it. maybe the love/use will come back and i'll be glad i didnt sell it.
In Germany the Tax is only of you make profit, if you sell with a loss everything is fine, unless you produce something like plant cuttings, than you are automatically a profit seller. Maybe it’s the Same or close.
my v small collection of 10 bags is mostly Hermes, including 6 quota bags. i’ve been ruthless with rehoming my previous bags but it’s so hard to sell the QBs because they are so ridiculously difficult to buy from store and if i have to get them back from the secondary market they cost so much and there’s the risk of fakes. i’m now trying to add only 1 or 2 bags a year and keep the annual nett increase to just 1 bag by rehoming the non QBs. i find that if i force myself to hold out for a purchase by at least 3 months, I have a better appreciation for whether i really want the bag or not. it’s an expensive hobby, and i want to be careful 🫶🏼
I don't sell, for years my bags would walk away with one of girls. 🙂 Then I gave may Alma BB in black leather to my youngest to celebrate her wedding. Fankly 95% of my collection are Coach bags, real work horses. Except for a taupe Ferramgo wallet on chain, a keeper for ever. I also have1990 Hampstead tote, my girls gifted me another Vuitton bag. So I am done I lust after two bags but will not spend the money. I will keep what I have and am happy with that.
I sold a few bags over the last year, all at big losses. Then the preloved market really tanked, so I am not selling anything. I may as well hold onto what I have. If I thought I could sell (even at a small loss) and reinvest in a new bag, I might sell a couple, but honestly I would rather just wait and save for whatever new bag I want at this point.
I never bought into that bags are investments. If I buy a bag, and decide to sell down the road, i never think of making a return on investment, I am just selling it for market price and moving on. To me bags are not an investment, they are something I buy to use and then if I can recoup some money great, but I am not looking to get close to the money I paid. I have bought some bags over the years that have turned out not to work for me, but that is my learning lesson, I take the lose, move on, and remember what I learned. Now I try to watch all videos before making a purchase, when the bag arrives i usually sit on it for a week, walk around the house with it, see if my items fit into it and my gut tells me yes or no. Bags are not an investment, we need to understand that, I cringe when I hear a youtuber call them investments.
That has always made me cringe too. Bags are simply not investments. I do the same as you now and walk around with it and make sure it will work out for me. If not back it goes.
I’ve heard so much about some of the luxury consignors low balling or not accepting. I haven’t sold anything lately and have decided to just hold on to my items. I agree if you don’t really need the money hold on to your bags. Some things like straps, certain totes, etc sell easily but I’ve noticed Chanel especially not so much. So you will definitely loose a lot. ❤❤
That is very interesting. Chanel used to sell so quick and over retail (depending on the bag of course) I wonder if people are tired of the high prices even preloved.
I have enough bags, so I have to sell one to get another. My lifestyle doesn’t warrant that many bags, thus my decision. I’m 50. I go to work, don’t like to take bags there. On weekends, I’m in workout gear or going to date night. But I still love a lot of them….. 😊
@@LuxPurselove I mean, if I am not using a bag and someone else has better use then just sell to them. So they don’t buy a brand new one. Some people would rather buy and reuse ♻️ instead of buying brand new. Save the earth 🌏
I have two sons no daughters, so I have given bags to my Goddaughter and her sisters. It gives me joy to see others enjoying them. I am also downsizing my other personal items a freeing feeling!
Yeah, if I sell my bags, I regret it, and I usually end up buying them back months later! I don’t sell them anymore. I just give them to friends, and I don’t regret it when I give them away.
I’m doing my best not to sell any bags this year. I haven’t yet…and I don’t plan to. I sold so much and whittle down my collection to 10 handbags (from 30+). 10 is a lot more manageable
I want to sell some but I’m afraid of being scammed … I actually need to get rid of some I just don’t use and am willing to make a good deal for them .
I am not selling bags. I was a big seller in the past. I would always sell older bags I wasn’t using when I purchased a new one. Occasionally I would regret a sale wanting the bag back. I have some that I only use 1 or 2 times a year and think I should sell but then I look at what I would get for them versus what fashionphile would sell them for and I think no. I don’t need the money and I may want to use the bag in the future. I would rather give them to one of my daughter in laws. BTW two of them just carry their items in their hand, I don’t get that but they just don’t use bags lol. I am not buying as many bags because of price increases. Not because I can’t afford them but because I refuse to pay the prices. If I payed 10000 for a bag (which I never would do)I would be afraid to carry it. It would sit on a shelf looking pretty. Not for me.
I very rarely had regret when selling but it really was awful when I did. So funny 2 of your daughter in laws carry things like my daughter! It just cracks me up as a bag lover.
Fashionphile and Yoogi's Closet used to be my go to places but now Fashionphile give low low buyout quotes and Yoogies says try again in 30-60 days... so I don't know anymore but I have heard to stay far away from Rebag
My daughters won't appreciate that bag sadly. I have gifted them high end watches and one wears apple and the other none. I wish they liked more of my things.
YES! I loved hearing this!
💯. I love mine as well and do much the same as you … Enjoy! Life is short!!❤️
Ok I admit I had to look up WFH person lol. I understand that, I also don't leave the house somedays. I hope you get better quotes later.
Thank you! Wow that is a really low offer for a Chanel WOC! I would keep it too.
Awe thank you so much! I really love your bag attitude!
I’ve found I’m happy with my collection, and have no plans to sell anymore. I have about 22 luxury bags, and I’m keeping my contemporary bag collection for my daughter. She’s 13 and uses my Coach bags from time to time. I don’t plan to buy anymore bags either.
Glad you are happy!
I agree with you about paying taxes if you selling items over 600 dollars i dont think that a fair, who ever make that laws i already paid taxes for same item then i must paid again if i sell i feel that a brain wash .somebody control our money where we spend.
It is just so crazy to me!!! I paid the tax and you're going to tax me at a much higher rate with a 1099???
I had the same problem with them. $200 for a LV wallet or handbag in excellent condition.
Same. No thank you!!
Thank you so much! Glad you are enjoying the coin purses.
It’s so wonderful to see you!!! 🤗❤️😘 Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts with us! It was great to hear your pros/cons! (P.S. Your wavy hairstyle is beautiful!)
Thank you so much!! xoxo
Thank you! How fun that your daughter is interested in them. It sounds like you have a well rounded collection.
Thanks Chris! I think that is a huge part of not wanting to sell. Can you even imagine starting all over with today's prices? Yikes!! Xoxo
I love that you thought of your daughters with your luxury bags. Coach is fabulous!
So glad you’re back. I have zero luxury bags, but if did have one it would be the Boy. It is gorgeous. Again, you were missed and I’m so glad to see you again.
Thank you so much! Xoxo
I sell the ones I don’t love and that are not my style as I get older. Personal choice. So glad you are back on ❤
Thanks so much. I understand that completely.
I’m really not trying to sell anymore. I’ve really narrowed it down to the bags I use the most. I’m at the point, like yourself, where I don’t want to buy if I do not love.
I love that! I need to use more of mine more!
Thank you! It is nice to be back. Wow that doesn't happen too often with Chanel! I think it is worth keeping your bag too than taking a low quote.
It is such a headache. I keep wondering why I tried totes again lol. Hope you have a wonderful week as well! Xoxo
I think you made very very valid points. Thank you for sharing and making this video. I really appreciate it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
The new tax law for the 1099 is ridiculous. You can show a loss, but having the documentation can be tricky depending on how long you’ve owned the bag you sell.
That law is on hold for now. Except if you live in a state that already had it on the books.
It is ridiculous! So glad it is on hold, we didn't have it last year so I assume we won't this year? I hope!
I have bags I bought 20 years ago. I love that they are now htf and vintage
Aww lovely to see you back hon, I’ve also been on a break 😘
Thanks Viv! I have been missing your videos! Xoxo
Thank you so much! I think that is fabulous you got to put that money towards a bag you'll use. The Lululemon belt bag is so good and discreet.
Love having you back. I think you make some great points, you have the bags now, enjoy them rather than feeling guilty abut not using them.
12 is a good number where you can really use them all. It is awful to sell for sure.
And another thing …… hold onto your Puzzle bag! I heard the changing it and the new model is not nearly as nice. 😊😊😊
That baby is not going anywhere! :)
Thanks for mentioning me 😊❤
Thank you Andrea! I knew it probably wouldn't work out for me but it is soooo pretty lol. I do need to think hard on this one. Xoxo
Thank you so much!
That is very lovely how you look at your bags and I think 15 is a great number to be able to use them all too.
Thank you! You are right, I am really considering a vlog sale at some point. I do that now when I buy a bag too. Wish I did a few years ago! Xoxo
The selling part is hard to tackle for sure! Thank you so much, I am in a much better place. xoxo
For a lot of bags that is very true. I haven't ever used the real real, that is interesting.
I've been wanting to let go of my pristine large chanel 19 and the quotes I got from Fashionphile and Rebag were a bit comical ($2500-$2560).....and I saw the exact same bag as mine in way worse condition being listed on Rebag for $6400. I just can't stomach that loss....
WOW that is just crazy!!! I would hang on to that for now.
I completely appreciate everyone's comments. I've sold so many bags. I have kept most of my luxury bags with the exception of four. I think I will keep what I have. Although I may sell for my whole luxury collection for my son's education.
That is very nice of you.
Love ur T-shirt! Where is it from? Happy to see you back!
Thank you! It is from Amazon.
Great video and points. Love your LV bag and your husband was so right about Chanel , getting more and more expensive. Thanks for your video and great to see you back ❤
Thank you so much! Chanel is just crazy at this point!
I wish I had bought the small, maybe that would have made a difference. I am not a tote girl other than travel.
I am thinking of selling a couple of bags too. Bags I sought after but haven’t used much or at all. I submitted pics to Rebag for Goyard Artois. We’ll see what happens. What you said resonates about money on the shelf you’re not using.
love seeing you back on YT!
Thank you!
Oh so nice to see you again Melinda, you are so sweet and gentle in your videos. Luv it!😊
Thank you so much!
Good to see you back! 😊 I should sell as I have too many bags and I don't want to have things cluttering up my life anymore. I'm just too lazy to do it but either I sell or I donate, as these are lower end contemporary bags and not worth much.
Thank you! I sold a lot of contemporary bags way back in the day on eBay but I am not sure if they still sell or not. It takes a lot of work too.
I completely struggle with letting bags go... I'm certain I would regret it...
The only bag I've been using faithfully is my Longchamp Le Pliage...
You know I love those!
Good to see you again! I find that when I find a new bag that I love my mind automatically selects a bag in my collection to kick out to make space lol
Thank you! That is a good idea!
Hi. I feel so spoiled with all your return video's so very nice and appreciated! Love your content and approach. :)
Awe thanks so much!
So happy to have you back! Your videos always bring me so much joy!
Thank you so much!!
Great topic ! I’ve decided I’m not going to sell anything due to the resale market and also purchase once or twice a year !
I think that is a great idea!
Thank you so much! I totally understand that!
I have changed my mind a couple of times about selling my bags. A couple of regrets so I am very careful about deciding to sell. Consequently, I realize I just like looking at them and they mean a lot to me. Great memories attached to them.
Same here, I want to be very cautious letting anything go moving forward.
So I am rahter buying more shelves and racks and try to enjoy the caring and dusting, too🙃
Thank you so much! I really needed the break. You really do seem to have carefully chosen your bags. Nothing wrong with adding more shelves! :)
I don’t sell any of my bags either. My daughter is always happy to take any I’m not using! Glad you’re back on UA-cam! ❤
Thank you! So fun your daughter loves them!
I did not buy my first luxury handbag until I turned 50. I could have afforded to many years before that but didn’t. I thought only crazy people would spend small fortunes on a handbag (no offense! 🙏🏻☺️). But one day me and my bff went to Chanel… “just to look”. 😮😊
And I fell MADLY IN LOVE.
Thank you Alex! You make very good points. I don't think 24 sounds excessive at all. I refuse to count mine lol. Xoxo
I have to really love a bag these days, not just so so but love. It is hard as bag lovers I think there's always one on the radar lol.
Just bring it back out and fall in love with it again.
That's the problem, I don't think I ever was. I just wanted it for travel.
So great to see you back on UA-cam 😊🤗
Thank you!! 😊
I regret every Chanel I sold. Not really any regrets on any other brands. I want to declutter a lot right now but I want the prices to be fair.
Yes they should be fair.
Thank you! I understand that! Why am I hanging onto a bag I have used only once??? Good luck with your sale!
It’s good to see you back! I’m hanging on to maybe two because they’d be good if my lifestyle changes (like grandchildren one day) but for now, they’re too big. I have considered just letting them go though.
Thank you! Hopefully you fall back in love and use them again.
Love this want more I need dinner ideas thank you
Thank you!
I will just list the price I want and if someone wants it, I let go. If no one wants it it's fine too. I will not lower the price and sell too much lower than I would like to bc i don't need the money
That is great!
Welcome back. I’m much more conscious about how I buy. I prefer to start buying older styles from reputable sellers! A better value and quality
Thank you! That is awesome!
Glad you got good prices on most of your items.
I have some I need to sell as I don't use them - just waiting or the right time I guess
Hopefully the resale market gets better.
@@LuxPurselove yes - I’m a bit like you it’s the hassle factor that puts me off 🤣
Can you do your luxury bag collection 🙏
Yayyyy! Glad to see you back Melinda!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!
Glad to see you back on UA-cam! 💕 😊
Thank you!
I'm sure selling a bag has always been stressful but Nothing like today and the coming days even. Just like most things - there's a buyer's market and a seller's market and somewhere in between. I truly believe we are witnessing the later. Each of these bags are lovely. 💛
I truly had no idea. It does seem like selling now would be even more stressful.
I feel the same, somedays I am ok with all of it and some I am like what the heck lol.
@@LuxPurselove how do you feel about Loewe discontinuing the puzzle and replacing with the edge? Doesn’t look great to me
@@beeshopspink I am not a fan. It isn't as edgy and seems like they are cutting costs.
I’m happy you are back🪻🌷🌻
Thank you!
@@LuxPurselove ☺️
The reality is the market is over saturated with high end premium goods. I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon as sales seem to be increasing in the luxury fashion houses. Giving some of your bags to your children is a lovely thing to do. Personally I don’t think holding on to bags you no longer use is a good idea but it’s like the stock market isn’t it? It’s hard to know what to do. Enjoyed your vlog.
Yes that is quite true isn't it? Thank you!
as much as it pains me to have money sit there and me wanting to pay off our truck, it pains me more having to lose money. i will hold out and admire it. maybe the love/use will come back and i'll be glad i didnt sell it.
I can understand that. Hopefully you fall back in love with it, I have a few times. :)
I’ve decided to only sell SLGs . The low balling is real and I see Fashionphile selling readily available LV for the same price or more as boutique. 🤯
I saw that! I am always curious who is going to pay full price for preloved???
A 3 month waiting time is a good idea! I could never let a quota bag go, who knows if I would ever get one from the boutique again.
always selling when I no longer use something - I can't bear to have anything sit around that isn't used. Once I made up my mind, it has to go.
I love that your girls enjoy the bags, that is awesome! Coach is fabulous!
I think I would wait too. The losses really stink.
Thanks for sharing!
I think you should sell your bags if you are not using them. For me, it’s more for sustainability reason and also to free up space.
I have plenty of space, that isn't an issue. I am not sure what sustainable reason there would be to sell a bag?
@@LuxPurselove I mean, if I am not using a bag and someone else has better use then just sell to them. So they don’t buy a brand new one. Some people would rather buy and reuse ♻️ instead of buying brand new. Save the earth 🌏
I have two sons no daughters, so I have given bags to my Goddaughter and her sisters. It gives me joy to see others enjoying them. I am also downsizing my other personal items a freeing feeling!
That is wonderful!
Yeah, if I sell my bags, I regret it, and I usually end up buying them back months later! I don’t sell them anymore. I just give them to friends, and I don’t regret it when I give them away.
Then maybe you could borrow them once in a while too!
@@LuxPurselove Good idea!
If you keep your receipts I think they can’t tax you. Also, I don’t think it went through. 🙏🙏
I do have all my receipts. I hope it didn't go through, if it did what a nightmare for so many people!
@@LuxPurselove it’s the crazies that are trying to push it through!!! You know who I mean.
@@jbtb2858 Let's hope it doesn't go!
@@LuxPurselove on another note, how do you store your straps so they don’t crease?
@jbtb2858 I roll them and store them inside the bag.
I’m doing my best not to sell any bags this year. I haven’t yet…and I don’t plan to. I sold so much and whittle down my collection to 10 handbags (from 30+). 10 is a lot more manageable
That is a very manageable amount!
I want to sell some but I’m afraid of being scammed … I actually need to get rid of some I just don’t use and am willing to make a good deal for them .
I understand that. It’s very scary to sell.
I sold a bag coz I need money to pay for mg daughter's school tuition but its okay haha we roll and survive like that
That is wonderful you could do that for her!
I’m not selling my bags, love them.
That is awesome!
I'm picky, cuz they're so expensive and I work hard to buy them!
True!
@@LuxPurselove thanks!
I wish I could sell a few but I hate losing money
It stinks!
What is the best way to sell your bags ? I’m looking to sell some .
Fashionphile and Yoogi's Closet used to be my go to places but now Fashionphile give low low buyout quotes and Yoogies says try again in 30-60 days... so I don't know anymore but I have heard to stay far away from Rebag
eBay used to be a good place to sell, I am not sure now. Also there are some Facebook groups but I don't have that so I can't recommend which group.
Missed you so much!
Thank you!
Don’t sell it give it to your daughter(s) you might regret it. I know we get into that let’s downsize but I tried that and regret it.
My daughters won't appreciate that bag sadly. I have gifted them high end watches and one wears apple and the other none. I wish they liked more of my things.
