    best video ever on a Mclane Backlap...I have a 20inch and after a reel change I have a slight metallic sound coming from the reel. I think the reel is hitting the shroud. Not to mention Im gong to make those wooden stands...great idea!

    Another Fantastic Video! Great detailed instructions that are much appreciated! Just purchased a brand new 20" Mclane after watching your Amazing comparison video. Watched the whole video too! I love your long videos because of the details! I have done the modifications for the catcher and added the Timer/Tach. Also used the ceramic coating right out of the box. I still have the pallet it came on so I can make my work rack! I'm a huge fan and watching all of your videos. My TiffTuff Burmuda is one year old and your videos are helping me to achieve The Lawn Of My Dreams! Mowed yesterday for the second time with the Mclane. There's a learning curve for sure but it went better yesterday. You make everything look so effortless! Thank you Dwayne's World for all of your hard work! Huge Big Thumbs UP Dwayne!

      I am humbled by your comment. That’s is really nice 👍🏻. Sounds like you are doing things the right way and really glad to hear things are coming along. The most important thing you can do for your lawn is mow it.
      A lot of people wants to put down treatments and chemicals but bottom line it doesn’t mean anything without good cultural practicing. Mow,
      Mow and mow some more👍🏻 .

    Just watched this backlap video and learned some neat things I had not seen from other videos. Excellent "and party on"! BTW ... does it help to adjust settings on our drill to a slower speed or less torque so we don't get kickback and hurt our wrists? Thanks Dwayne!

    • @dwaynesworldlawn
      @dwaynesworldlawn  6 місяців тому +1

      When it comes to a drill i would recommend using a drill you wouldn’t mind losing if it dies out. If you are getting a lot of kick back it could be that the reel to bedknife tolerance to still to tight and may need to be backed off slight. You can always apply less clearance as you are backlapping. Hope this helps. 👍🏻

      I set the drill my drill to the slower speed, that way I don't sling the compound ff at faster speed.

    Thanks for this video Dwayne! Soil temps are increasing now and my Zoysia is starting to show a slight green haze. I need to back-lap my 25 inch Briggs McLane for the first time to get ready for the season. I think I will scalp first then back-lap so the new growth will get a nice and crispy cut when it starts its spring growth spurt.

    Great video Dwane. How often do you backlap? Is it best to just look at the grass blades after cutting to see if the ends are jagged and/or see if it still cuts paper? And what about grinding the bed knife to the reel. Is that something you have done and if so how often. Thanks for the video.

    • @dwaynesworldlawn
      @dwaynesworldlawn  Рік тому

      If you are good about mowing just grass, i know it’s sounds funny to say, but yes just grass and not sticks and stones or other debri you should be able to get 3-5 years with needing a grind. Generally i choose to backlap when i feel the tension against the reel and bedknife are too tight in order to get it to cut paper. Because i have multiple reel mowers i may only backlap once a season but maybe twice if i use that mower quite often. Using the grass blades as a indictator also work but that could also mean that the reel to bedknife clearance needs to be adjusted because it tearing and not cutting. It may just need a adjustment and not a sharpening. But again like i mentioned if you find that you need too much contact to get it cut then i may be time for a backlap. Also something to consider is when needing a grind is when backlapping won’t do the job and still won’t cut paper or can’t get even cut from one side to the other. This can be that reel is no longer true and need to be grinded to remove any coneing from the reel that may exist. I appreciate the support and the comment 👍🏻

    Great video, the best around for sharpening a Mclane reel..
    What thickness of paper, did you use for your “paper test”?
    I try to use a thicker paper, if I use a thin paper stock the tension required to cut paper makes it way too tight.

    • @dwaynesworldlawn
      @dwaynesworldlawn  2 роки тому

      I would agree with that. A thicker paper more along the lines of a business card is adequate. In some cases a folder over sheet of paper will also work. I like to use credit card junk mail as along of times the paper those company use is thicker than normal printer paper. You have the remember as well when you paper test your reel is normally cold. With that said the reel will expand when being used which will automatically tighten up the tolerance. I appreciate the comment and the support. 👍🏻

    Excellent video! Can you provide me the length of the 2x4 blocks for the mower stand. I want to make one for my mclane 25 gr. Thanks, Dwayne!

    • @dwaynesworldlawn
      @dwaynesworldlawn  2 роки тому +3

      In order to make the each side
      you will need the following from 2x4 stock -
      2 x 16 inch pieces (1 stacked on top of the other)
      2 x 4 inch pieces (6inch apart from each other for wheel fitment)
      You should have 2 inches on either side of the 4 inch blocks placing the tires in the center of the 16 inch pieces of wood.
      It is all then assembled with wood screws long enough to hold the 3 boards together.
      Repeat process for other side.
      Hope that’s helps 👍🏻

    Hold on a sec, at 24:16 you're backlapping the reel backwards, but then at 24:50 you can clearly see the reel was spinning forwards. Was that done on purpose?

    • @dwaynesworldlawn
      @dwaynesworldlawn  6 місяців тому

      No you don’t want to run the reel forward when backlapping. I went back and looked at the video and when the reel comes to a stop it does appear to go forward. I know i was running the reel in reverse and think what may have happened was that when my drill stop it could have caught the sprocket forward making it go forward slightly. I also know i was running in reverse as if i was running forward when putting backlap compound on the reel it would have flew all over my garage floor and that was not the case as where most of the excess compound ends up on the grass shield from running in reverse. I appreciate the question and the support 👍🏻
