It's priceless, seeing Ginger smiling towards the end of the long middle groove, the unadulterated unfiltered sheer joy of it. That's how we feel listening to this band.
Superb track. What a line-up Dave Brock vocals & guitar, Ginger baker drums, Huw Lloyd Langton lead guitar, & James May from Top Gear on the bass guitar having a bad hair day.
The BEST roto-rhythm Hawkwind has ever done! Starting about 2:58 in you'll feel a physiological change in your body -like you're lifting off. Happens everytime!
Hawkwind-mania This is my music and proud of it. I am a fan and met & talked to them more times than I can remember, Lemmy is really bright and the rest are articulate, kind, & grounded.Plus:!! They really believe in what they do. No BS
Dave looks like Arthur Brown here...... .....Although the Hawkwind legend is mainly about the 70's , up until the 90's Dave managed to keep his ship in tiptop shape . That's over 30 years of very good music, that even The Stones couldn't manage.....
It was my first cd when they came out after 2 vinyls played to destruction ...2nd was The Raven and both sounded better on vinyl. Motorway city guitar ...he was a genius RIP Huw...First track I pick if am somewhere I can crank volume up and grab the air guitar
I've never seen this before. I started my Hawkwind journey in 1975 and certainly saw them live on this tour and several times since of course. For me the albums released 1970-79 are the best. On his game, Huw was the perfect lead guitarist and gave the band real muscle. Robert Calvert was a genius in his own way.
The first band I ever saw at a fair it was the summer of about 83 and I was blown away I was on acid and amazing , I still listen to there albums I love masters of the universe , great live band
Indeed. The band as a whole underrated. Of course there's been many people involved but generally an astounding band. Ginger was a mad addition but somehow fitted. HUW best guitarist though!
Simon King and Ginger Baker , abeit for a short time , are two of the best drummers to play with Hawkwind. This is classic Ginger Baker , classic Hawkwind , fkn Classic classic acid classic.
A true classic! The band AMORPHIS did a killer version of "Levitation".It's worth checking out.Obviously,it's not QUITE as good as the original but it's still excellent.
Looks like Dave borrowed some mascara from Arthur Brown! That said, this is a brilliant number from Hawkwind, and the presence of Ginger Baker is especially amazing.
Hawkwind played at a Motorcycle Action Group weekend open air in somerset in the early 1980s. Loads of bikers loved Hawkwind and wherever they played whether it was Stonehenge Festival or indoors it was always a party. This was the best music before Prodigy, rave but better in my opinion.
@owenkrysler8235 😆 I don't remember where I saw/read it,but afterwards said, ' I can't believe that the World's finest Drummer has been sacked by the World's worst Bassist' (Harvey Bainbridge). A bit unfair, as He was voted out by the rest of the band, but Bainbridge announced the decision to him.
Ginger took any band he played with to another level... Of course Hawkwind was already an established band, but his drumming just gave them that extra oomph.
@boris boris I don’t care for his solos either. It’s his groove I Iove. And I don’t care he was an asshole either. Tons of musicians are/were. Each to his own.
@boris boris I wandered far in lands unknown Until I came to my earthly home Far away I found life's dreams Drifting on a silver beam You'd better believe it It's so easy to say It's so easy to say It's so easy to say It's so easy to say
I saw the Levitation tour, December 1980, in Taunton - my first gig! At the end, Ginger Baker had clearly been riled by someone in the audience. He threw his stick, not so much *to* as *at* the crowd. The venue has been a bingo hall now for decades.
HAWKWIND - LEVITATION LYRICS part 2/2 I have this fascination No cause for a deviation It's called levitation Magnetic force, repel-attract Once it starts, there's no turning back I offer you this chance to learn Take it now, there's no return
I don't remember when was the last time that I heard that song, or when was the last time that I heard the full album from which the song comes, I remember that the guitar player who plays the solos had a unique sound and style
This is Saxonwench's favorite video...she's from England so naturally, this is the ultimate treat for her...I miss my English connections,,in total..xxx..
First saw them in 1980 on the Levitation tour and it remains one of my favourite albums of all time.
I'm 66 seen them many times, still listening to them. ❤
absolute masterpiece! Hawkwind is the most underrated band of all time!
Truly they were the last of the real underground bands... them and the Pink Fairies.
Not underated you just have to be on acid
Just brilliant 🎸🎤🎶❤
It's priceless, seeing Ginger smiling towards the end of the long middle groove, the unadulterated unfiltered sheer joy of it. That's how we feel listening to this band.
Lucky enough to see them on the Levitation tour supported by Vardis. A real treat to see Ginger in the flesh and a fantastic album.
Think I might have seen them then too. I'd forgotten about Vardis! :)
I saw them on that tour but I didn't like Baker, especially as he did a really long and boring drum solo, I preferred Simon King.
This is my favorite album from Hawkwind
Captain Brock at his best. And the great Ginger Baker and Lloyd-Langton. R.I.P.
Excellent song! The guitarist is mind blowing!!The vocal melody one of best ever!!
very good......................................................
Superb track. What a line-up Dave Brock vocals & guitar, Ginger baker drums, Huw Lloyd Langton lead guitar, & James May from Top Gear on the bass guitar having a bad hair day.
Lemmy on Bass would have made it perfect. Who's on Keys?
On bass was Harvey Bainbridge, who eventually migrated to keyboards. On keyboards i think on here was Tim Blake.
@@alanrockman9678 Tim blake
@@ianwilkinson4602 *Yeah it was Harvey* BUT now its said its hard to unsee it 😋
@ianwilkinson4602 That's the truth but i much prefer to call him Brian or James May hahahah and I call Ade Adey and Bob Bobby and Simon Simie
when i was a teenager Hawkwind were immense
Brilliant track 🧡🎸
This is their finest album by far.
best band in the world 51yrs and going
RIP Ginger, on a side note though - Huw lloyd and those so distinctive solos - bloody terrific. Irresistible and infectious tune.
I used to know his daughter Jo hope you're OK in Worcester Darling .
R.I.P Ginger and Huw
Huw Lloyd Langton is probably the best guitarist most people have never heard of!!!! Amazing guitarist.
I love Huw's solos. Best part of any HW album/song those long sweeping solos.
The BEST roto-rhythm Hawkwind has ever done! Starting about 2:58 in you'll feel a physiological change in your body -like you're lifting off. Happens everytime!
Oh yes
Oh yes indeed 😂
O my what a great band seen many times keep them going Dave
Dave Brock man! The Wizard of British Psycho-Rock! The amount of talent that passed through his band... unsung hero of the fuckin' western world!
So sad to hear about the death of Huw.One of rock true gents and a great guitarist as well
RIP Peter - you took an already great album to a new level.
Hawkwind-mania This is my music and proud of it. I am a fan and met & talked to them more times than I can remember, Lemmy is really bright and the rest are articulate, kind, & grounded.Plus:!! They really believe in what they do. No BS
I ♥️ Hawkwind
Musically the best Hawkwind lineup
Hawkwind = Awesome .... loved Huw's return on this album.....great album.... 💪
i remember the tour so glad to see ginger baker in real life and RIP to huw great song and tour they really were underrated, thanks for the upload
Dave looks like Arthur Brown here......
.....Although the Hawkwind legend is mainly about the 70's , up until the 90's Dave managed to keep his ship in tiptop shape .
That's over 30 years of very good music, that even The Stones couldn't manage.....
So I see Hawkwind fans say this alot, what happened 90s onward? Love the Hawks!
Stones were fkn good though
@@Headwind-1 Not live they weren't.
They're still going! Gonna see them in Glasgow in 4 weeks. 😊
This is the first Hawkwind album I bought... without knowing anything about the band and solely based on the cover art! And I loved it.
I bought many albums based on the cover art and either the band or the lead single. It was foolish but successful. Cheers!
I bought a few great albums going on the cover art alone. Never bought a CD on that criteria though.
It was my first cd when they came out after 2 vinyls played to destruction ...2nd was The Raven and both sounded better on vinyl.
Motorway city guitar ...he was a genius RIP Huw...First track I pick if am somewhere I can crank volume up and grab the air guitar
One of Hawkwinds iconic tracks...just bloody brilliant...always ahead of their time.....and still going strong.
rip Ginger one of the best hawkwind albums
@boris boris Yh have to agree with you.
I Went to a levitation tour gig 1980, really good
Great album . Hue loyd langton was a brilliant guitarist. Fab keyboards, A very musical Album
I've never seen this before. I started my Hawkwind journey in 1975 and certainly saw them live on this tour and several times since of course. For me the albums released 1970-79 are the best. Still listening 2021
Incredible performance with rock solid Ginger on the drums, amazing.
The first band I ever saw at a fair it was the summer of about 83 and I was blown away I was on acid and amazing , I still listen to there albums I love masters of the universe , great live band
Yet another unique unrecognised brilliant talented guitarist ... Ladies and gentlemen I give you Mr HUW LLOYD LANGTON. wehhhhhhhhh !!!!!!
Indeed. The band as a whole underrated. Of course there's been many people involved but generally an astounding band. Ginger was a mad addition but somehow fitted. HUW best guitarist though!
Intonation Connection That is what does it. That is it
He is not unrecognised by me! His guitar work on Levitation is otherwordly!
i just went through the entire rolling stone top 100 guitarists (boring hipster list)....then came here to hear something good.
Had the privilege of meeting him in Cardiff 1985
great guy
Wonderful atmospheres and landscapes
created. I was there
One of the best psych songs of the mid to late HW era ❤❤❤❤❤
Simon King and Ginger Baker , abeit for a short time , are two of the best drummers to play with Hawkwind. This is classic Ginger Baker , classic Hawkwind , fkn Classic classic acid classic.
I will never lose this fascination.
Thank you Huw, simply sublime.
Goodbye Ginger, and thank you. RIP.
Gawd! Saw them in Birmingham on this (shroom season) tour. Ginger on drums, Tim on keyboards :) We all took off in a giant UFO that night. Good times.
I was there too :)
Not Ginger Baker?
Yes. Ginger Baker
Me Too. Brum Odeon.
Quiet a few UK tours coincide with the mushroom season :) :) recall Choose your Masks tour gig on Shrooms. Good times:)
Brilliant. .what a line up at that time. . ..huw Lloyd langton harvey bainbridge ..brock ..and ginger baker on drums
Love them in the 80.s and still love them.walk on water float on air.
I love this song.
A true classic! The band AMORPHIS did a killer version of "Levitation".It's worth checking out.Obviously,it's not QUITE as good as the original but it's still excellent.
Awesome mix!

Got the album on blue vinyl when it came out classic late on Hawkwind still have it in the cupboard.
Me too, my sister bought it for me, never heard of 'em, but once heard, never forgotten RIP Huw
andy glass I’ve got it also it’s like a priceless artefact to me.
1:45 marks the beginning of possibly the greatest moment in British rock history ….. &, yes, bless you Ginger.
Saw them during this time, and thankfully before Mr.Baker was sacked before completing all this tour. Memorable show 🔥🔥🔥
Actually, I think it was Baker who sacked the rest of the band.
Given that it was Huw Lloyd-Langton's input which made this track, it's a shame there's so little of it shown.
My fav band and what a find this is from an awesome album thanks for sharing :)
Ginger Baker actually smiling ! That was a rare occurrence !😀
Classic Hawkwind track & classic album…Mr Brock on top form 👌
My Lord, it's just impossible to listen to this and not to dance in the same time!
I know. Before I even realise what's happening I have my clogs on and I'm wearing out the living room carpet.
Ginger took any band he played with to another level...
Of course Hawkwind was already an established band, but his drumming just gave them that extra oomph.
@boris boris You’re absolutely right.
@boris boris I don’t care for his solos either. It’s his groove I Iove. And I don’t care he was an asshole either. Tons of musicians are/were.
Each to his own.
@boris boris You seem very angry at the world, buddy.
Musical taste is subjective. Let it go.
@boris boris
I wandered far in lands unknown

It's so easy to say

Fantastic. I saw this great line-up on the Levitation tour back then (1980 ?)
Hawkwind class was listening to them at 14 51 now
Sophia Gardens 81.remember well. Great band album. Rip ginger Baker. Huw
Great stuff, saw this tour in Oxford and St Austell and they were superb gigs......and they're still going :)
Thanks again for all of your hard work in showing this rare clips
.RIP Ginger Baker, Levitation tour was only time I got to see him live
Yeh, just heard the bad news. Bummer
Yep same here, RIP
me too.
It's an insult his passing didn't get more airplay than it did. I hope Clapton went to pay his respects as Ginger thought of him as his only friend.
yep me too
I discovered this as a teenager in the mid 90s when I was into magic mushrooms!
Stunning!
Great band and Master Ginger on drums always fantastic yessssthatsit
Burning Hell, what a song! Well done, Dave Brock! O:-) you belong to the best in RockHistory!!! B-)
Love this. The album is great.
Can't believe I smoked & lit up reality
unlike any other band.
Truely brilliant style.
Hawkwind gods . don't mess around with the builders of gods of music
Hee Hee it was me that put the ink on those binoculars! Baker truly awesome.
Thanks so much for your time and love to your talent , I have to say you, the hawk's RIP past members ,. Thanks for the journey to the edge of time,jB
Amazing band.
I love Hawkwind
Oh, happy memories...from the '80s, no less!!
Huw Lloyd langton made this, backed by Ginger bakers amazing drumming, that's why this is such a stand out album
So dystopic Dave!!
An under rated prog rock band like Nektar and Amon Duul 2, very unique!
Amazing album all the way through and the drumming is ok too 😁
This is what your metalwork teachers got up to on their lost 'mushroom' weekend.
This shows Huw's fantastic guitar style
Great RIP Huw!
I saw the Levitation tour, December 1980, in Taunton - my first gig! At the end, Ginger Baker had clearly been riled by someone in the audience. He threw his stick, not so much *to* as *at* the crowd. The venue has been a bingo hall now for decades.

Nice tune.
I don't remember when was the last time that I heard that song, or when was the last time that I heard the full album from which the song comes, I remember that the guitar player who plays the solos had a unique sound and style
Huw Lloyd-Langton - vastly underrated.
Whenever I see recordings of live performances or music videos of groups like Hawkwind I always just how many drugs they were on at the time.
what an everlasting pulse , thanks to ginger baker !!!
I saw hawkwind at a local school.in York approx 50 years ago
Late Father took me at the tender age of rwelve in 74ish with Stacia .......Still cut the mustard for me!!!
peaked with this album, amazing
Drums are so perfect they sound like a drum machine. Cool song!
Indeed!!! Ginger Baker was a human drum machine!!!
