    Thank you so much for this! After this video I feel like a pro now. I would love to see the picture-in-picture option be other shapes other than square. If also like to have different border options. I'm sure I can make my own. It makes sense to see the record button go red or have the option to stream as well.

    Well, it was at least as exciting as you made it out to be when you couldnt tell us what it actually was. It's nice they came out with something VERY different from what other companies are offering. Love the integrated wireless microphone feature and all the USB ports.

    Thank you. They let the Master Compellor out? The Rodecaster Pro has that function.

    Is it possible to key out video overlay animations or overlay video with an alpha channel? I heard it had a downstream keyer.

    Cool! I wish they used the timecode app (with that flashing QR code) to sync audio and video. Timecode link the Røde with the app, then show the code to the connected camera, presto! Or just provide a cheap locket, or have broad time code compatibility. 😊

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 місяці тому +1

      Timecode would be a useful addition but since this can record multitrack audio and video it's easier to just have all your files recorded to the SSD and they're already in sync and the same length then.

    • @PeetSneekes
      @PeetSneekes 3 місяці тому

      @@aaronpk Oh, definitely! I meant to use said time-code hack to use as information to synch them in the RodecasterVideo, so that everything is straight and synced on the SSD. I do use timecode in my ATEM 'mini' setup and it works like a charm, but I do have to sometimes sync post-recording. That's a bummer, but I do have the tools, so I don't have to guestemate sloppy time problems. 😉

    Fantastic tutorial thank you Aaron! I just got my RCV and love it. Disappointed that the monitor outputs are extremely noisy when connected to active speakers. I'm using the right balanced cables (which I've changed), I've changed the speakers and the noise is still there (buzzing interference), wondering if anyone else has come across this issue?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Місяць тому +1

      Sounds like a ground loop problem. Try changing what power sources your RCV and speakers are connected to. Or get an isolator between the RCV and speakers. Ground loop problems can be tricky to track down!

    Thanks for the deep dive! Do you know how many sources you can have in a custom layout? Is it just 4 cams? Or could you create a custom layout with all 6 cams and a background?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 місяці тому +1

      There are 5 layers, usually you'd use the bottom layer for a background graphic and then 4 cameras.

    This looks very compelling. I cant seem to find if the XLR ports support Phantom Power. Do you happen to know?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 місяці тому

      They do! I did a demo somewhere in the livestream today, you can probably find the timestamp if you search for "phantom" from here aaronpk.tv/questions/?v=KBJ6PvSG9EI

    Are you only limited to 7 overlays? (the A to G buttons) or is it possible to toggle more overlays through the RØDE central?
    I stream Live Shopping events for a client, and we usually have around 25-30 overlays (products on sale) that are being toggled/shown during one stream.
    If it's not possible to have more than 7 overlays, can I use software like H2R Graphics with the RØDEcaster Video? (which I'm using now together with an ATEM Mini Pro).
    The ATEM Mini lets me have one source always on, a fullscreen green screen as a second monitor on my Mac, which the ATEM keys out and overlays the program output. Then H"R Graphics toggles various Graphics on the keyed out source. It works, but very clumsy.
    Any chance RØDECaster Video can do something similar, and hopefully easier?

  • @RobertBoerner

    My understanding is that if you use ISO recording the maximum resolution is 1920x1080 and the frame rate is limited to 30fps. If you switch the recording option to record only the 'Program', does that allow you to record at 60fps?

  • @cdm1966
    @cdm1966 3 місяці тому

    Did I understand you correctly, you can't do a logo/bug and a lower third at the same time. And if so, do you know if that will be coming in a future firmware release?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  2 місяці тому

      Yeah right now only one overlay can be on at a time. It seems like something they could change in a firmware update, but I have no idea about the timing.

    Is it possible to multi-stream (stream to multiple platforms concurrently)? e.g. UA-cam & Twitch.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  2 місяці тому

      No not built in, you would first stream to a restreaming service and that service would stream to multiple platforms.

    How are you using your desktop as an input? Does it have to come through HDMI?

    • @MikeVp
      @MikeVp Місяць тому

      Essentially what I do with the ATEM that I am trying to work on with the RODEcaster video is how to add a pip scoreboard for sports events. We use a laptop as a HDMI video input there, however I can use DSK to keep it up while I switch between cameras there (via another computer with the ATEM switcher control) but I am not seeing dsk options?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Місяць тому +1

      On the RØDECaster video they use more colloquial language rather than broadcast terms like "DSK". This is the "overlay" feature in the RØDECaster, but at the moment it can only overlay graphics and video clips, you can't use another video source as an overlay. You can chroma key out one of the video inputs and layer it on top of a video source by creating a scene. I have a demo of that here ua-cam.com/video/OUd0kSZBjjk/v-deo.htmlsi=FolHEkPMiBRkMnM-

    • @MikeVp
      @MikeVp Місяць тому

      @@aaronpk Funny I had JUST watched your video on the overlays & scenes. Good video! I was thinking I will just use it as an HDMI input and use a scene for it, however since I have 3 cameras I have to build 3 scenes so it will always be over whatever camera I am showing.

    OK.. question the usbc ports on the back, one was for computer you said to the computer..is that only for sending to the computer? Or is it for receiving from the computer?
    I need a way to bring in two remote guests from the internet as video sources..can this box do that with the usbc port?
    Apparently the Magewell can't bring in remote guests at all so if this one can't also, what do you suggest for bringing in remote guests from other cities? OBS? YOLO box? I can't seem to find a solution

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 місяці тому +1

      The YoloBox has a built in remote guest feature. eCamm does as well. The other option you have is to use ZoomISO and some extra hardware on your computer and get your guests out as HDMI feeds, but that's a lot more complicated.
      This device does two way audio over the USB-C port to the computer, so you can use it for the audio portion of your remote guest, but you would need to bring your guest video into this device over HDMI. So the easiest example is to run Zoom and full screen the remote guest on an external display which is actually connected to the RCV. I should probably do a video about this because it's kind of hard to describe in text 😅

    • @sibertiger17
      @sibertiger17 3 місяці тому

      @aaronpk yeah...we use zoom right now and I just use the video file zoom records but I then have to put that in my editor (Vegas 21) and do all the editing...I want to save time by having one of these boxes and all the scenes preset so I don't have to edit anymore...is OBS maybe the way to go instead?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  3 місяці тому

      oh the zoom recordings are not good either!
      One free option you can try now is VDO.ninja + OBS instead of Zoom. Your guests will join in a browser, but you'd be able to create all your scenes in Zoom. I don't have a video tutorial about this, but I did show this in some livestreams a few years ago if you want to take a look aaronpk.tv/timestamps/#vdo.ninja

    Hello two questions:
    1) is it possible to connect another HdMI port via usb-c using a capture card like can link 4k?
    2) if i plug in an hdmi blackmagic camera (like the studio camera) will it works the tally light functions?
    Thanks a lot!!!

      There is no support for the Blackmagic tally lights though, that is specific to the ATEMs

    Question about the video switching, does it only switch between 2 cameras as it only has 2 audio inputs to pair with? or can it also switch based on the audio coming via the hdmi input?
    What happens when you connect a Rodecaster Pro 2 to the Rodecaster Video via the USB, does the audio coming into the Rodecaster Video be separate or a sum?
    I'm picturing this setup
    Rodecaster Pro 2
    Audio In
    - 1. Mic Guest 1
    - 2. Mic Guest 2
    Rodecaster Video
    Audio IN
    - 1. Mic Guest 3
    - 2. Mic Guest 4
    HDMI Video IN
    - 1. Guest 1
    - 2. Guest 2
    - 3. Guest 3
    - 4. Guest 4
    USB C Input
    - 5. Wide shot (optional)
    and have auto switch pair up with all the guest/camera/audio.
